A death race? Really? Ylva was in a particularly irritable mood. She had managed to see where she ranked after the last few matches and she was STILL behind. She knew that somewhere, her dad was watching and was going to give her an earful if she didn't place well enough. [break][break]

Even though she wouldn't normally consider doing something like this, it was a different story- she had to win. So as she pulled her bike up to the starting line she would take a look at her competition with most of them, surprise, surprise, being built like you'd expect for someone in this event.[break][break]



Ylva would lean on her bike, ready to take off when the starting bell rang out. Not being able to use her quirk directly on others wasn't ideal for her but being able to use it on the field meant they'd be lucky if they even managed to finish.[break][break]

Calliope

Calli really wasn't sure what to expect coming to UAU. The types of events were things that she had no idea about. A death race sounded right up her alley, but she really wasn't sure what she was supposed to expect with it. Calli wasn't an expert at riding a bike, but living in Greece allowed her to have enough practice to do it well enough. She could bike for a while, and to her, something like this was more about endurance over speed. The people that went above and beyond in the opening moments would be the ones that would be at a loss at the end.

Looking around, she would adjust her sunglasses so that she didn't accidentally use her quirk on someone. As much as she could play dirty, it wasn't fair for her competition if she used her quirk without their knowledge. She wouldn't want to win unfairly unless she saw other people doing the same. Licking her lips and looking straight ahead, she was locked into the race and ready for it to start.

Ylva gripped the handles of her bike in anticipation. She was glad this wasn't a foot race as she wouldn't be able to place well even if she could set traps for others; she was just very slow. Well, she was still faster than Andy and that clunky armor.[break][break]

The starting signal would ring out and Ylva would lean on her bike and start to accelerate. With a person coming up on her right as she went she would produce a sheet of ice a few feet in front of them which would cause their bike to wobble at first and then they would fall flat on their face. Ylva was tuning out some shocked voices from the crowd as she focused on the race, she wasn't going to lose her no matter what.[break][break]

Oh, so it seemed that someone was going to cheat. Being behind the person that was iced, Calliope would quickly swerve out of the way, almost falling off of her bike herself. This was not what she was expecting; the race had just started and people were already using their quirk? Looking at the girl that was the source of it, maybe it would be good to give her a taste of her own medicine.

Trying to get beside her but not too close, she would lower her sunglasses. "Hey, you!" She'd shout to her, as loud as she could, hoping to just get a glimpse of her eyes. Biting her lip, maybe it was best to go a bit extreme, because she wasn't going to let someone that cheated win just because! "Bitch, you can't just use your ice powers on whoever you want!" Yeah, that would get her attention!

God, she'd said it as a joke, but this girl really was a bitch. Who didn't look when they were being talked to? Like actually, was she just a psychopath or something? Anticipating the ice from her previous movements, she swerved a bit and caused someone else to fall instead. "Oops, sorry!" She'd say back to them, before trying her best to center herself better. It didn't seem like talking to her would get her to stop, so perhaps it would just be best that she avoided being too close to her.

She'd move to the side, trying to stay half in the lead, but visibly being paces behind the girl in front. She wasn't sure why she was so adamant about winning, but Calliope wasn't going to take it that seriously. It wasn't worth it to try to get on her bad side, so she would watch to see what she would do next, and see if someone else wanted to try to get into first place. To Calliope, it wasn't worth it at all.

Ylvas efforts were already showing results with the number of people willing to even get close to her or try to pass her falling down to less than 3. Calli may have stopped shouting but the others weren't, jeers being shot in her direction as she dug her heels into the pedals and picked up speed.[break][break]

A foolish yet brave competitor behind her and between her and Calli decided that he would use his quirk to make a pothole in the ground in front of Ylva. With some quick thinking on her part she would use her own quirk to fill in the pothole with ice and with a risky maneuver she pulled back on her brakes a bit, sliding over the obstacle. Of course she'd return this in kind, making a block of ice in front of the saboteur and she didn't have to watch as she could here him flip over his bike and onto the course. The goal was in sight, and between Ylva, Calli, and a third person, they would take the first three spots. The real question was who would get what?[break][break]

As she biked, if was like she was watching some survival show. The other competitor apparently didn't care for his safety and wanted to mess with her just as much as she had been messing with others. Her eyes would widen, and honestly, she stayed away from that because she didn't want to get hit by anything either of them threw at each other. The toxicity of winning wasn't something she cared all that much for, but it did worry her that they were so willing to use physically destructive quirks.

"Stop it with the pot holes punk!" She'd holler back to the man, putting her glasses down and trying to look him in the eyes. For her sake, she didn't want to accidentally get a pothole herself just because she was close enough to the leader. Hopefully her talking to him and looking his way would distract him enough for her to get second, but she'd be fine with third too.

The nameless competitor may have wanted to close the gap and overtake Ylva, but Calli distracted him. The person Ylva just wiped out was a good friend of his and he was eager to get his revenge and humiliate her in the same breath, but unfortunately for him he wouldn't get close. [break][break]

Calli's shouting got him to turn to face her for a moment. "Would you SHUT UP? If we take out the girl I can geeeeeeeeee..." Meeting Calli's eyes meant one thing, instant vertigo. His peddling became sporadic as the handles of his bike shook with the world spinning around him, and before he knew it, he had come to a stop entirely and fell over. [break][break]



Luckily for the girls, they weren't around to see him vomit after being subjected to intense dizziness. For Ylva, once she passed the goal, she ground her brakes to a stop, and without paying any mind to who, in this case, Calli, came up behind her, she hopped off and left the course. She didn't have time to sit around and 'celebrate' a win, she had to win the whole thing and nothing was going to stop her from doing just that.[break][break]

Oh shit, it worked. Unlike the girl in the lead, he actually looked at her and sadly, succumbed to her quirk. She felt a little bad about that one, but she didn't realize that there was some hidden story layer as to why he was trying to target Ylva and not everyone in front of him. "Sorry, I'll buy you lunch sometime!" She would shout back, only to turn around and realize that she'd gotten second place.

Getting off her bike, she'd let out a big breath, extend her hand to Ylva, and get ignored. Calli blinked, then blinked again. "Oh, she really is a bitch." Some people cared way too much about unimportant things like this. Instead of sulking about it, she'd shrug and run back to aid the man that she'd made swerve and vomit. Hopefully she could be his friend...?
