There are parts of you that were decided before you were even born. Some people call it genes, some people call it god... Emile doesn't care how it happened. What matters is that it did happen — that it's happening. Which hypocritically enough guides his every waking moment.
Emile wants to change. Both internally and externally. Maybe if he gets rid of his quirk he doesn't have to deal with the constant anxiety of going nuclear. Maybe if he gets rid of his quirk he won't care that he takes so much space. Maybe if he gets rid of his quirk he can work on the parts of himself he can change... as insignificant as they are.
There's the way the world is and the way he wants the world to be. And while he doesn't expect to make a difference in it, let alone his own life, he's gonna fight tooth and nail to give himself every chance that he's got.

Emile's your stereotypical athlete — tall, wide back, broad shoulders... the amount of muscle on him his astounding and most people assume he got into U.A. off a sports scholarship. Not that they even exist. The kicker, and there's always a kicker, is that he hasn't played a sport a day in his life. There's not an ounce of coordination in that body of his and he's at his best lifting heavy objects from one place to another, a result of moving furniture in and out of homes during his high school summers.
His attire isn't anything to scream home about, either. Afraid of change and unable to make a decision he wears the same types of outfits on rotation. Get multiple of the same shirts, pants, etc. in different colors and you're all set to mix and match to your heart's content. Fact of the matter is black is his go-to color.
If you're lucky to catch him in the morning, before he completes his ritual, then you'll see a four-linked chain extending from his abdomen. And if you see him in the middle of the day, you'll notice scars around his belly button. Most people tend not to ask about them but when they do he evades the question.

And whatever father figure he may have been missing was replaced by his Tio, a world traveler who frequently brought back souvenirs and stories for the family to enjoy. It was a simple and easy life.
Outside of his family, Emile found himself bounced from quirk specialist to quirk specialist. Since the age of four he had been told how dangerous his quirk was. And every time they tried to help him... he saw the aftermath of their trials. It wasn't long before the government was involved. They provided his household with financial support as long as they relocated outside of the metropolitan area. The fewer people around, the better.
It was lonely out there, but at least they had each other. Until his Abuela passed. Natural causes. That was when his Tio visited for the last time. There weren't anymore souvenirs, there weren't anymore stories, there weren't any more replies from the occasional 'happy birthday' text. His mother eventually explained that some relationships are more fragile than they look. Even family is circumstantial.
