Miroru stood outside the entrance to the Conflagration Zone, chewing her lower lip as she stared at the massive dome and the flickering illumination from within. Everyone knew what the Conflagration Zone was- a massive neighborhood of buildings entirely engulfed in flames- but the prospect of training there was daunting. She couldn't control fire, after all, and that made the whole idea daunting.

Or rather. It had until she'd arrived.

To her surprise, when she got close to the Zone, she could feel something thrumming wildly inside the dome. It left her frowning, puzzled- it didn't feel right. It wasn't that brightly lit but it felt like it was absolutely filled with incredible amounts of light.

The moment she realized what was in there showed on her face clear as day. Blinking wildly, she reached out with her quirk- and felt oceans of infrared light, of radiated heat, respond within the dome.

This wasn't a hazard area.

It was a stacked deck in her favor. 

It took a few moments to shake herself free of her stunned state and look around again. Had the instructor and her opponent arrived and seen her spaced out like that?

Training programs are meant to be set as unfairly against you as possible. That was entirely the point of stuff like this. It needed to push you to the edge. It needed to break you so that you could regrow stronger. Growing complacent was the death of the fool and it was something he had seen many times when he was fighting for real. "Should be here any minute now I guess." He mumbled, waiting for someone he was supposed to fight. If the field was against him, it meant it would be in favor of the other most times. Which already told him more than enough on his upcoming would be adversary. Either a light quirk, or a fire quirk. It was probably not going to be a mutation, unless said mutation would allow them to resist fire. He should prepare for an emitter versus emitter fight, but remain open to shift his strategy towards a more close range mutation or transformation counter. He would turn around as he heard light steps coming in. Someone was arriving. It was someone he had seen before. Another student. His opponent for today. "Hello." was all that Leo said to her. He had no reason to add anything else beyond that. She knew why she was there, why he was there and what they had to do. There was one thing he wanted to ask of her, though. "So we just drop at random or we cut straight to the point." He questioned. He didn't mind if she wanted to also try and get the drop on him. He was not going to hold back in any case. Well, at least up to the level of power the shakles around his wrists allowed him. Where those to break in the scuffle...well... that was a problem for his opponent to figure out.

"Hi. You must be- um. Kaiser-san, right? I'm Miroru. A pleasure to meet you," offered the redhead as the doors to the Conflagration Zone opened and washed them down with radiant heat from inside. She recoiled for a moment, then settled, apparently perfectly comfortable an instant later despite the high heat washing over them. "I've got a coin we can toss. We can start when it hits the ground."

She walked in a ways as the doors closed again, fishing the coin out of her tracksuit pocket and holding it up so he could see it. When he seemed ready, she tossed the coin up and-

The world went white and cold for a split second the instant the coin hit the ground as Miroru grabbed all the infrared light in the area and twisted it visible, then dragged all of it to where she had been standing an instant ago. There now stood an extremely high quality image of her with her fists wreathed in painfully intense light, while the real redhead was several paces back, light folded around her to hide her from sight and radiant heat entirely as she continued to feed the continuously produced infrared light from the flames into her very not real illusion and the glowing fists serving as its very much real condensed energy weapons. It put her in the dark, but to her senses, there was a gaping hole in the infrared light permeating the area where Leo stood. Keeping up with the fight wasn't going to be a problem.

Looks like his "light quirk" guess was right on the money!

Miroru's image floated off the ground as if repulsing upwards using those glowing hands, then rushed to meet him, either moving to intercept whatever attacks he might hurl "her" way, or to meet him where he was, presumably to engage in some good old fashioned fisticuffs!

Leo would raise an arm up over his eyes to shield himself from the bright flash. So, it was a light quirk after all. That was good to know. He worked better against other emitters. He would be quick to "change" into his battlesuit. That was to say that he coated his whole body save his head in a thick layer of pure dark matter. He did not move much, preferring to instead keep a close eye on the shimmering apparition before him. "Well ain't that flashy." He commented in a mostly flat tone, watching as the lady started hovering. Was that some sort of scare tactic to fool him into giving up or something? Did not work much. He would backflip out of the way of the incoming lunge with no particular problem, but did not retaliate at this time. He just stood there with a serious expression on his face after her first attack, finding himself under a would be bus stop as he ensured to make some space between them again. The roof on his head would do to stop some of the ambient light and heat for the moment. He was still considering his steps given he was fighting at a disadvantage. He widened his stance a little, his black bodysuit shimmering in the fiery inferno around them as he considered what he knew at the moment. She seemed to be a punchy kind, at least on the surface, but he was able to react to incoming attacks good enough that his speed could keep him safe. Perhaps he should conserve his energy a bit more, see if his inaction drew out more information out of the oppoent. For the moment, he was not fighting. He was learning.

The sense of... something utterly lightless settling over her opponent's body did a lot to reassure Miroru that whatever she needed to do to try to take down her opponent, chances were he could take it. Her lightform assault was FAST, after all, but he managed to move at the same pace to back off and try to buy time to observe and learn.

Something she knew the value of all too well and had no intention of allowing.

From her isolation, Miroru kept up the assault, every punch from the lightform becoming more and more accurate and deliberate as time went on and he proved she couldn't take it easy on him. He'd very rapidly discover something worrisome- Miroru wasn't just a punchy sort. She was an extremely skilled punchy sort, with more than enough sheer combat talent to hold her own in a ring against the best the world had to offer outside of quirk modifiers. Add to that the lightform's speed matching his own, and he'd find that while he was able to keep himself out of its reach if he stayed completely focused on defense and evasion, he'd be extremely hard pressed to do so while maintaining an offensive of his own.

And a defensive battle wasn't going to be in his favor here.

With the intense heat permeating the Conflagration Zone, he was going to discover that losing body heat from his exertion was, essentially, not going to happen, leaving his body temperature creeping slowly upwards towards the threats of heat stroke rendering him unconscious... all while his opponent insulated herself completely from the radiant heat and got to keep still, her only heat concern being the burning starting to collect at the base of her wrists as she pushed the lightform to keep up with Leo!

He had a full field to make use of, and considering that the attacker was not feeling the effects of the heat or signs of exhaustion the young man was already testing a couple theories. First, he wished to ascertain the thing in front of him wasn't indeed a trick of the light. The fact that the other student did not capitalize on him being flashbombed right at the start to sneak in a hit and just stood there doing her floating thing was something pointing towards his hypothesis of misdirection.  Not only that, but a construct of light would have no mass, just energy. Thus it would be able to damage things through sheer energy transfer, but would not to affect things in the same way as - he suddenly swiped a piece of glass in her direction incredibly quickly. He wished to test reactions. Test hesitation. Everyone flinches or braces for impact. It was a subconscious thing, no matter how minor. That is, if the body percieves a danger. If they did not care about attack hitting them they could try and fake a reaction, which could be just as easy to spot. In any case, his first thought on mind was to confirm his target before striking, like always. He did not waste his strenght on proxies and if this was indeed a proxy it had to have a range where control was weak. The trick to fighting people who can use clones or other proxies is force the real one to move or do things. Breaking their concentration is usually a great way to call their game. Thus he kept backtracking as far as he could. And if this wasn't an apparition he certainly would not challenge her in her range. No. He would force her to fight under his conditions. He wasn't, however, the only one who was feeling the heat. The shackles around his wrists were malfunctioning in the heat. Wouldn't be long before something inside the quirk suppressors would short out, and when they did he would be free. Free to use his real strenght. "If this is all you can do I'll give ya one chance to quit. I don't like harming ladies."

Glass was an extremely clever choice. Miroru couldn't pinpoint what it was he'd picked up to throw- infrared light passed through glass, after all, so her technique of tracking his gap in the infrared landscape couldn't tell her what he was holding, but no matter how quick he threw the glass, he had to change his evasion to grab it, and Miroru was ready for it. After all, he'd shown the propensity for creation when he made his suit, so stooping to gather objects from the surroundings only left so many motives for doing so.

As he broke his evasive tactics to try his play for more intel with a predictable follow-up to the move to snag the glass in the first place, Miroru did her best to punish the lapse in protective maneuvers, angling to dart the image in and throw a punch for his ribs. The image wasn't just matching his speed, it was also backed by Miroru's very real hand to hand skills, and the blow had a good chance of landing unless some trickery kept the blow short of that black suit he was wearing.

There was, of course, a limit to her range, as developed as her skills were, and when they hit about 75% of the distance she could handle, the image stopped and brought both hands up, fingers curled inwards towards him like she was trying to squash him. The heat dramatically ramped up to dizzying levels as the light around him got painfully bright- the latter more a cosmetic misdirection, seeming to imply he was being cooked with direct light when the reality was far simpler- infrared heat was just being redirected directly around his body.

As for his taunting offer for surrender? Well, Miroru didn't hear it.

She wasn't nearby, after all.

AWARENESS (B) PRESENCE (D-) CONSTITUTION (D) SPEED (A-) DEXTERITY (C-) STRENGTH (C-)	As he was slamming into concrete a little harder than what he expected, Leo was reminded why he hated light quirks. Took the wind out of his sails for a moment and he was happy he was wearing his darksuit, otherwise that hit would have been lights out already. Still, taking the hit didn't completely waste his time. He gleaned two things. First she did dodge, but from the way she stared at him and didn't even seem to acknowledge the glass told him she was more focused and reacting based on his movements. He should start moving much more erratically to compensate. He wasn't quite as practiced in the punchy business so he wasn't going to risk it. She switched up her strategy as well, stopping her attack to go for a more indirect way to incapacitate him, which struck him as odd, but did give weight to his earlier illusion hypothesis. Maybe he really hit the max range. As soon as he felt the singing heat increase around him, he decided to change up his strategy and be a little more proactive. He would test some things, but first he had to take care not to have his blood boiled in his body. He quickly created a dark spheric shield around him out of energy, only for quick enough for him to blow a hole in the ground and actually drop down to the subterran level. That meaning the mock underground. Less fire, less heat and more over, cool nice darkness he could use to his advantage. If she still wanted to punch him, then she would have to pursue him there where he would have the upper hand field wise. He didn't sit still obviously, he would instead start running through the tunnel towards the place the two first started. He thought he saw a building he could really use against her. The way you beat light is simple if you have the right tools. Sometimes you could completely deal with the problem with just smoke and mirrors...

Leo was completely right that he was being read for predictable actions rather than waiting to react after the fact, and his response was- actually quite effective. For the time between his adjustment and Miroru breaking off, her actions lagged, forced to respond after the fact and breaking down the illusion of being faster on the draw than she really was.

So, too, was Leo smart enough not to stand around and cook. Blowing a hole in the ground was, sincerely, something of a shock, and the image of Miroru reeled back, the broadcast of her expression and body language giving away her surprise at the explosive descent!

With him underground, Miroru wasn't about to sit around and chance getting surprised. While he sprinted through the tunnels back towards their starting location, she was moving off at an angle, roughly towards the hole in the ground but weaving into the alleys between the buildings. As for her image, it didn't follow- in fact, it stopped existing shortly after he disappeared- but the cool refuge of the tunnels didn't stay that way long.

Free of the complication of maintaining the illusory self, Miroru found a recessed staircase and ducked into it, taking advantage of being out of sight from all angles besides directly across the alley from her hiding spot, and focused on redirecting the infrared buffet produced by the flames down into the tunnels, directing them right on Leo's heels and turning the tunnel he'd chosen into an oven as the infrared light heated not just the air but the tunnel's walls, trapping the heat and radiating it right back into the air around him!

With all the running around he'd done, and the hot atmosphere crippling his body's attempts to cool itself after so much activity, it was likely that fatigue and heat exhaustion were going to start setting in sooner rather than later. Leo was amazingly fast and his reflexes were top notch, but using them in such a hot environment meant strain on his endurance, which paled in comparison to his strong points.

Meanwhile, while Miroru's wrists were starting to burn from using her quirk so strenuously, she had the benefit of a stronger constitution and freedom from the latent heat of the area- if Leo didn't find a way to stop this war of attrition soon, he was going to run dry much faster than his opponent!

AWARENESS (B) PRESENCE (D-) CONSTITUTION (D) SPEED (A-) DEXTERITY (C-) STRENGTH (C-)	Leo was definitely feeling the impact of the heat, but he was considering how to escape and weather the storm. He felt the heat wave waft through the tunnel, so she had spotted the hole. She planned to cook him alive, but that stategy would stop working soon, he made sure about that. He quickly found a side room inside the tunnel, one used for maintenance. He quickly forced the lock open and hid inside, slamming the door behind him and sealing it with some of his darkness. Light still work and the heat was coming only from a single location, one he could keep sealed with enough effort. From there, it would be a waiting game. See who burned out first. The heat manipulator or him. It was an unconventional strategy and kind of a far cry from his usualy tactics. In the old times he would have started destroying the whole place to get her, but he was trying to think like a proper hero. Not because he wanted to play fair with her, he very much did not want to, but because he was trying to better himself. Tried to be like her. Like Skald. Either way, this bout was reaching its end soon. One way or the other.

Leo tucked himself into the maintenance room, and for several long moments, nothing happened. And then, over the loudspeakers-

"Rokuhane Miroru has withdrawn from the match. Leo Von Springs is the winner by default."

Once Leo returned to the surface, he'd find Miroru wrapping bandages over her wrists. She looked up as he approached, and nodded. "You think quick on your feet." Wrap wrap wrap. "I realized that all the options I had left to deal with you in there were overkill. I could blast a hole in the roof, but there's no guarantee that wouldn't seriously injure you, what with your head exposed, and if I dumped enough heat into the concrete to try to smoke you out, I'd basically have put you in an oven." She took a couple butterfly clips and secured the wrappings, admitting, "I'd rather take the loss than risk the options I had to get you out of that room. I hope you can accept that in the spirit it's meant?"

For his sake...or because she actually wasn't able to harm someone else for real. He had hardly been pushed to the brink. Hell he didn't do much but run around a bit and then just...nothing? Perhaps he had been too passive. He should have seized the initiative. Force an engagement. Still, this was a glaring flaw of the lady. Clear as day.  "I would like to ask you a question." He stated, slowly, still fully clad in his shiny black suit. "Were people in actual danger. Were the conditions of your situation such that you would have to harm one to save another... would you do so? Those... 'overkill' methods you speak of. Would you use them, knowing full well they can cause permanent damage or disfigurement? Or death to your enemy?" He hummed, stepping close to check the bandage out of curiousity. He folded his arms to his chest with a light squeak. "I see your quirk also harms you. By stopping, you have caused damage to yourself without getting anything in return. You wouldn't be able to fight like you did at the beginning. Meanwhile, your opponent would just take that moment to win. There are no half measures in a fight."  He remained quiet for a few more moments, before turning around and snapping his black suit away in a wisp of smoke. He wasn't really there to berate someone. He had said his piece, exercise was done. He began walking away, stopping only to look back so he could add one last thing. Probably the only guy who could actually speak from experience. "People like me have nothing to lose and everything to gain by killing heroes. We don't care about others anyway. Killing someone makes your soul heavy, true. However, regret is heavier still." ... tip. tap. tip. tap.

"A question?" Miroru paused and looked over towards Leo. "Sure, go ahead."

The question was the expected one, and she pursed her lips. "If you were actually putting someone in danger, you already waived your right to considerations for your safety. You'd have created a situation where your position, essentially, became "you hurt me or I hurt other people." Miroru rubbed along the bandages, scowling. "I know the difference between a class match and lives on the line. I'm not going to let people get hurt over my principles. But for a class?" She shook her head. "I don't care enough about winning to risk serious harm over an exercise."

She scowled further as Leo kept lecturing her, turning to face him. "The exercise itself was profitable. I've never had the chance to operate with that much energy available to me before, and seeing the ways I can use it and put it into practice is valuable. I know how quickly manipulating it works through my resources now, too." She thumbed back towards the field. "It means I don't need to learn those nuances in the field if I respond to an arsonist in action. And you have absolutely NO idea what I'm still capable of even now. So stop patronizing me, asshole. I learned stuff here and wasted nothing that matters. Before you start looking down at me, what'd YOU get out of this? Cuz if your answer is nothing?"

She grabbed her bag and hooked it over her shoulder.

"Then you didn't win after all."

His last comment made her stop and look back. "I said it before and I'll say it again. I'm not going to let people get hurt over my principles. If I'm put into a position where my only choice is to put down a monster "like you", to use your words? Or to let someone else get hurt or killed?"

She looked away and walked out the door, calling over her shoulder. "Then it's their own fault when I turn them into a soot stain.

Good match, Kaiser. Have a nice day."
