Excited could not even BEGIN to describe how Takara was feeling. For the last decade, she had idolized her grandfather and wanted to meet him with only her father's resentment standing in the way of this fact. Everything she had been working for and all the effort she put into getting into UAU had been not just for her own desire to be able to have ultimate freedom but to meet him on "equal" terms. Very aware that he didn't know she even existed as her father had sworn off all contact with him from a fairly young age, not that he had much choice given how Leonid was back then, she had gathered as many pictures of evidence ranging from her grandmother and her father to her and her parents. Humming happily as she approached the administrative building she figured since her existence was in itself a surprise she would just drop in and share the wonderful news. Whether her Gigi would appreciate this sudden bombshell was unlikely but when had being rational ever stopped Takara from doing something she wanted to do? She was very aware of the implications of doing it this way but she figured not only was it funny but it would be a good story to share later when it became more public. She pushed her way through the door to the stairway, taking it up to the second floor where staff offices were, and did her best to keep an even pace despite her instinct to run. Probably not the best decision to do so in the administrative building of all places and since she figured this might delay her meeting she just walked briskly until she was face to face with his door. Taking a deep breath to calm her excitement she turned the handle to open it without warning since they were family and proudly took a step in beaming "Gigi! I'm Takara. Takara Toshigawa." with an ear-to-ear smile plastered on her face she gave that a minute to sink in before taking another even larger leap in familiarity "I'm your granddaughter! I've been waiting to meet you for so long!" she stood slightly away from where he was an extended her arms as wide as possible anticipating a hug that would likely not come.

So much work.

When Leonid had originally signed up for an educator position, he had not imagined how much work it would involved. He had been one of the champions of the hero industry for almost twenty years, he thought he knew hard work, but that was all practical. Crimefighting, interviews, commercials, sponsor reads, talk shows, podcasts, TV spots, licensing deals... Those had all been things that he went out and did, not things that he had to study or read up for or prepare. No documents that he had to handle, no fine details... He had always had people for that. Not so much now, however.

Now, he was flipping through his various student files, looking at reports from the most recent classes... Had to learn all of these things, had to learn all of these people, so that he could best prepare their futures. Coursework to plan, internships to find...

And then he was interrupted by his office door sliding open. What was this, now? Looking up with a brief flash of annoyance, he would glance towards the girl who had just sauntered right in and-

Before he could even finish that thought or register who he was looking at, she had introduced herself. Right, Takara Toshigawa, he had read her file when preparing for this year of hero studies, had found the matching names amusing, but what she said now made a cold feeling sink in his gut.

Granddaughter.

So it wasn't just a coincidence, then. One of his grandchildren had made it here, to UAU, and was staring him right in the face now. Beaming with excitement, radiating expectations that he recognized, and could not fault her for having, but that he knew that he would not be able to meet. The old lion froze in place, simply looking at the girl as she stood there beaming, wracking his brain. Toshigawa, so it had to be one of the marriages then, not that any of his marriages hadn't fallen through on quite frankly horrible terms, and he did not immediately recognize her features. Not having seen two whole generations would do that, he supposed, and so a long, cold silence would last between the two, as Leonid felt nothing but searing, poisonous shame.

What kind of man looked his own granddaughter in the eyes and couldn't even tell who she was?

Eventually he spoke, to utter an all things considered absolutely horrid question, but it was the first thing he needed to know. As sick as it made him having to ask, it was still something that had to be said. "...So which one are you from? Who is your parent?"

The tension in the air was palpable as Takara awaited eagerly for her grandfather's response to the news. She wasn't all too fussed about him taking his time to process this wonderful news as she had about a decade of a head start to do so but she did lower her arms as it felt like the moment for an embrace has passed. She was practically bouncing up and down as the seconds passed, waiting for gigi to respond. Clearly, the news brought up some complicated feelings as Takara's excitement didn't shadow her ability to read people and Leonid looked like he was about to vomit.[break][break]

"Which one...?" Takara was slightly deflated until she realized what the implications of that could be and blurted out "I have more aunts and uncles?!" as her star-shaped pupils lit up brightly, as the news didn't have as much of a negative effect as Leonid anticipated. "I have a few pictures of my dad and grandma. Me too if you'd like!" she would show him this regardless but wanted to be polite so as to leave a good impression. She took her phone out of her purse and took a step forward to approach the desk and scrolled through her photos until she found one of her dad at a very young age and her grandmother. Flipping the phone around she showed the image before she would flip to the next one showing herself at the same age as her dad, with him now all grown up and just as feline as Leonid himself. "My dad became a teacher, but he wasn't really happy to talk about you much." she decided to take a seat across from him "So I figured I'd come to meet you in person and get to know you myself!"

The energy and enthusiasm that the girl was glowing with was the furthest thing from matched by Leonid himself as he remained seated, the only thing keeping his emotions even remotely hidden were his animalistic features naturally keeping his face difficult to read to most. She had more aunts and uncles? Yes, almost definitely, more of them than Leonid could even begin to guess, as in that he didn't have the foggiest idea of the actual number. Well, at the very least she did not seem dissuaded, in fact before he could even stop her she had begun pulling out pictures, something that the old lion leaned over to take a gander at as they were shown to him.

The sight of Takara's grandmother - his former wife - did prompt some recognition in him at least, though shamefully, not as much as he would have liked. He had a type at the time and now, thirty years on without ever having cared much about the individual women in question..? They began to bleed together in his mind, something that he absolutely did not care to voice out loud. The sight of his son however, that prompted the cold lump in his stomach to grow, his muscles to tense. The spitting image.

His mouth felt dry.

And still, Takara continued speaking, and it took the veteran a few moments to find it in him to reply properly. A whole career built on playing difficult questions and entertaining journalists, and he was caught speechless. Eventually he did find some semblance of words, however. "...Well, it makes me very glad to know that you would be so interested." Not that he could truly fathom why, if his son had really spoke of him that frankly. "It... Is a pleasure to finally meet you then, Takara." Even if it honestly sounded like anything but.

"...I reckon that you may have questions then, for me?"

Takara quite literally couldn't contain the smile she had even in the face of her grandfather's guilt. She had an ear-to-ear grin as Leonid took another long pause between what he had said last. Hopefully, the whole time wouldn't be this uncomfortable for him was just one of the things that crossed her mind, but ultimately she thought if her hero was in her shoes he would do whatever had wanted. I mean c'mon I've watched that clip a million times!" she cupped her hands over her mouth in a subtle recreation of his Sonic Roar "You quite literally took down Maelstrom with a single roar." she clenched her fists and squealed at the thought.[break][break]

Alright, alright, so admittedly, this was... Stressful, to him. Leonid was not sure what to make of Takara's existence just yet, let alone that she was presently sitting right before him - his own granddaughter, in the flesh - but at this point, it was hard for him to not let her... Frankly rather infectious energy get to him. She was just so damned happy to see him, in a way that he couldn't help but to appreciate, and then she began to gush about his old accomplishments.

Letting an old "Hoo..." slip as he crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair, Leonid tilted his head slightly to look at the medal that she brought up. Good thing that she reminded him where it was from, actually, between the many festivities, accolades and celebrations that he had been part of in his day, combined with the fact that Leonid had the time had not really cared about what he was getting as much as the fact that he was getting it, the various medals and trophies and congratulations grew very same-y after a while. But the Victory Festival, once named? That he did remember... "Well, that brings an old man back." He chuckled some, letting Takara continue to speak.

He knew that the right thing to do here was to set the record straight with the girl, make it very clear that the man that he had once been was nobody to idolize, that what he had accomplished may have been impressive in parts, but it was overshadowed by oh so much more hurt that he had caused. But, he couldn't. Part of him did not want to let someone this enthused down, and part of him... Part of him was still Leonid, and he could not deny the powerful kick of having his pride stoked in such a way. Here he had begun to feel as if he had faded into obscurity, but here someone was, treating him like the icon of the industry that he had spent decades being.

Unable to contain the continued chuckles in his voice, Leonid would reply to her last bit of... Well, fangirling, no reason to call it anything else. "Now now, it was a little bit more than that, the roar was a setup. The force knocked 'em back and the noise discombobulated them, then all I had to do was close the distance, and, well." He closed one hand, clenching his fist and letting his suit activate, sparks of electricity jumping across his knuckles. Still a bit of a showoff, huh? "You have seen the clip, the rest is history."

"Quick, clean neutralization to minimize potential damage and threat to the surroundings. That was how I worked, at the time." And of course, it looked impressive enough to generate reactions like these, which was just as much part of the point, even if he did not say that out loud right now.
