That's what Kei is at a glance. For all the friendliness he exudes, he just can't seem to fully relax when he's around other people. Maybe it's the fear of doing something wrong in their presence. Maybe it's the thought that someone has a problem with him again. Maybe there's some other feeling even he couldn't name. Whatever the case may be, he's a little too alert of other people's actions, always trying to parse their intentions. Fortunately, this is only the case for people he's unfamiliar with. Only when Kei knows there's no danger to his wellbeing does he truly calm down. Around peers he's more open and opinionated, less afraid of speaking up should he see something that needs to be tackled. He becomes a worrywart not for his own safety but the safety of others, even extending himself as someone they could rely on should they need it. Though he tries to get better about his overextending issue. Well. Keyword: tries. Overall he does his best to stick to his helpful nature while being aware of his limits at the same time. He can only deal with so much. [attr="class","section"] [attr="class","section-title"]APPEARANCE [attr="class","flex"] [attr="class","appearance-col"] SKIN COLOR Lightly tanned [attr="class","appearance-col"] [attr="class","appearance-col"] FACE CLAIM SERIES Original Character [attr="class","appearance-col"] [attr="class","flex"] Kei is a short guy with a stocky build and bright yellow eyes, the only real oddity with his appearance being the cross-shaped pupils that’s a minor clue to what his quirk involves. His hair is unruly, bangs held back by the headband he wears so they don’t block his eyes. A toothpick can always be found held in his teeth when he’s not eating or sleeping, having made a habit of chewing them to prevent himself from biting his lip. Faint scars can be seen on his bottom lip from when the nervous tick used to be a bigger issue. Clothes-wise, he dresses more for comfort than style. Outside the uniform he has several hoodies he wears out, and jumpsuits when he holes himself up in the workshop for hours on end. Even in uniform Kei keeps his tie loose, he’s not a fan of constrictive clothing. Cuts and scrapes are no stranger to the boy either, he sports bandaids on his person more often than not. [attr="class","section"] [attr="class","section-title"]HISTORY Kei wanted to be a hero once. In a world as dangerous as it was, wanting to help in some way just seemed like a natural reaction to him. His older brother was the same, and in fact held values befitting of a hero: kindness, bravery, perseverance. He had a cool quirk that could propel him to the top and be an inspiration to all. Kei wished to be as amazing as he was. He doubled down on his studies in middle and high school. Despite his weak quirk and small stature and tinkering nature, despite all the people who didn't believe him, what mattered most was having the knowledge and intuition that would get him in the hero department in university. At the end of the day, it was the instructors who had the final say on whether he was good enough. Kei's priorities changed when his class was attacked during a field trip. They were trapped; surrounded by monsters crafted by the villain holding them hostage. One closed in on them and Kei, in fear and desperation, placed his hands on the enemy and pushed his quirk as hard as he could. After the event, he realized he didn't want to become a hero after all. But he still wanted to help somehow. So his focus shifted to gear instead, fine-tuning his craftsmanship into something he could take pride in with extracurriculars and online courses. He learned fast; built things that he still uses to this day. His work was recognized by real heroes. Kei didn't want to be a hero anymore, and that's okay. He was able to enrol in Japan's most prestigious university anyway. He has several, all filled with ideas for gear and anything else he wants to get out of his head onto paper. He protects them all with his life. Kei’s quirk allows him to regenerate liquids and fine grains using his hands. This ability, while simple, has many applications: refilling a glass of water, topping up a fuel tank, unlimited milk, you get the gist. His quirk works fastest with direct contact with the substance, and weakens the farther his hands are from the source. With concentration, Kei can even use his quirk on a source from a distance so long as he's touching something that makes contact with it. This began with holding a glass to refill the drink inside, but his power has grown to the point where he can use nearby puddles to flood an area by touching the ground beneath his feet. As a side-effect, he can sense the components a substance is made of once he makes a closed connection with it. Due to this ability, Kei can target these specific parts instead of the substance as a whole. In this way he can bypass the drawback of requiring exposure to the substance to replicate it at the cost of its integrity. [attr="class","ability-title"] [attr="class","ability-name"]DRAWBACKS He can only duplicate what's existing, and he uses more of his energy the thicker the substance is. His Quirk eats at his blood sugar so overuse results in symptoms of hypoglycaemia like lightheadedness, fatigue, and anxiety. Direct exposure to the substance is mandatory if he hasn't encountered it before, so he can't duplicate dangerous substances like acids and toxins without risking his own life. Sensory overload is also an issue when he can sense everything connected to the surface he's touching; concentrating on what to use his Quirk on and what to avoid can overwhelm him if he's not careful. They can also lift things he otherwise could not on his own. What makes it unique is that each arm can act as a hose that shoots out water, which Kei delivers through handles on his device. That they’re capable of living forever so long as they don’t get physically hurt? Well, Taro’s indifference is one reaction to it. Despite his flashy appearance, he carries himself in a lackadaisical manner. He moves as if he’s in no rush to reach his destination, and that’s because he rarely is. Time is meaningless to someone who doesn’t need to sleep. Other than improving his quirk to expand his playing field, there’s not much else for him in terms of goals. Ambition is something he lacks severely, he has to be convinced to do anything beyond lazing around. That being said though, it’s easy to persuade him to be involved in something. The man is naive to the outside world, his view of it only coming from TV and internet up until he was able to leave his apartment. He’s never had contact with people beyond his roommates and their guests so anyone he comes across is met with an easy grin and compliance to their every whim. He’s not a total lost cause however. Taro loves to learn. No, really, he soaks up knowledge like a sponge and his memory is surprisingly impressive. Years of being trapped has made him inquisitive of the world and people around him, which can lead to some uncomfortable questions due to his lack of tact. He’s like a child with how mesmerized he is with everything around him. Overall he just goes with the flow. Without any need for sustenance, he’s not tied down to the motions of a capitalist society, so he’s free to do whatever he pleases as far as he’s concerned. His jagged horn and tail makes him easy to pick out in a crowd but they’re also just short enough to hide with a good enough disguise. Something to note though is he can’t remove his current outfit due to the nature of his quirk, which consist of a distinct jacket and leather pants among other things. He can layer a coat on top or wear a hat, but his base clothes must remain no matter what. Also distinct is his tattoo of a snake and skull, which covers the entirety of his left arm. Taro’s appearance in general cannot change at this stage. His hair will always be navy, his eyes always auburn, and no amount of time under the sun will give him a tan. Not even the elements can alter it; neither snow nor rain will stick to him. He has no sense of hygiene but it’s only because he doesn’t need it at all, as he’s incapable of accumulating grime. Who brushes their teeth in a game anyway? [attr="class","taro-title"]HISTORY If Taro were to be asked what his childhood was like, he would mention that life in general started when he woke up at the age of seven in an apartment, to people he’d never met in his life. This was only half-true, but given the nature of his quirk, it was believable enough. The whole truth would involve him being born in an apartment complex due to a mother’s debilitating fear of hospitals, them moving out of the country for a new life and Taro’s quirk manifesting on the plane ride there, causing him to blink out of existence as the rules of his mutation were thrust upon him. He lost his life, and as a result he respawned back in his old home, with a new name as his original one had been forgotten. But you know, no one really likes hearing one talk about their death and permanently losing connection with their family. For a time he was stuck in the apartment, its new residents begrudgingly letting him stay as he literally couldn’t leave. He was good at staying out of their way due to his lack of need for food or water, but over the years they’d come together anyway by proximity, with his roommates turned guardians teaching him basic skills as he couldn’t learn in school. Said guardians would work to pay rent, while he stayed in to take care of chores. It was a mutually beneficial relationship. The knowledge that he was trapped within the walls of the unit was still on his mind though. It was likely he was never going to get out. That is, until he accidentally dropped a glass one day and heard a ping in his head after it shattered to a million pieces. It was at that moment when he finally understood the game he’d been forced to play. With the other residents away, Taro decimated the apartment. Broken chairs, bashed desks, torn paper. Whatever was breakable, he destroyed. Even items that were thought to be durable didn’t last when he truly put his mind to it. The only things that were kept intact were the permanent fixtures like the windows and door. Features that belonged to the landlord rather than the inhabitants who rented the place. Eventually he stopped to test the one reason he went through the all the hassle. One step outside the door was all he needed to know he was free. He packed everything he could in a bag and fled, with no destination other than away. Taro was eventually met with another barrier outlining the city borders but it was fine. He had the whole city to explore now, and he knew how to extend his reach. He simply needed to level up his quirk again. And as far as he knew, destruction gave the most experience. [attr="class","taro-title"]ITEMS Spray paint cans - Graffiti has become a sort of hobby when he discovered it counted towards his game. Vandalism in the form of art, how nice. Katana - A basic weapon for his various misdeeds. [attr="class","taro-title"]QUIRK [attr="class","taro-ability-title"]AVATAR Mutation / C-Taro is, in a sense, not real. A being of hard light instead of flesh and blood, he is a playable character in his own game of life. Taro has the following traits of a video game character: - He no longer ages, and can't eat, drink or sleep. Sustenance matters not in his game.
- He can't die. Well, he can, but whenever he does he respawns in his birthplace: an apartment in Tokyo.
- He has a health bar of 100. Any damage he receives knocks down this bar instead of give him injuries. This number is dictated at the time of the hit, which is larger the harder and more direct it is.
- He incurs the same amount of damage no matter where he’s hit. There’s no bonus points for headshots when it comes to him. In the same vein, punching his arm will be like punching his face.
[attr="class","taro-ability-title"]DRAWBACKS You'd think you'd be perfect if you're always in peak condition without ever getting tired. You'd be wrong. - Despite being digital, he's still a solid being and can be pushed down and knocked back as such.
- His mutation has an adverse reaction to magnetism and pure electricity. His body turns to static in the presence of either, and his balance and senses become compromised until he gets away from the source.
- He also glitches out when he receives damage, which gets more severe the harder the hit is.
- He can't leave his play area, which currently only encompasses Tokyo.
- He's severely weakened without his quirk. When removed he reverts to his average self; D- strength, D- speed and a sickly constitution as he couldn't physically train his body while under the influence of his mutation.

To save people instead of repeat what he'd done so many years ago. If he makes friends on the way, great. If he makes enemies, also great. It doesn't matter to him either way. In general he starts off respectful enough, and can even stay that way depending, but it can go away at a drop of a hat due to his ignoring of people's grievances with him. Interactions are also surface-level, he tries to share only enough of himself to satiate the other's curiosity. Beyond the artificial aspects of his body, Elijah is a boy with a lean, athletic build, skin tanned and face full of freckles due to a combination of genetics and his time in the sun. His hair is twisted into dreads and often tied back so they don't get in the way of his face. The clothes he wears are baggy and unassuming; he often opts for hoodies over a simple tee or tank top and cargo pants. He's currently undecided on what his hero outfit would be. Let me make something clear. I don't care if, officially, my family's deaths were an accident. Nor the fact that the injuries my neighbours sustained were fully healed by this point. I don't remember any of it, but I was told three houses burned down when I came to in the hospital as the sole survivor of my home. Several people told me it wasn't my fault; that I was too young to realize the item I was found with was used for. Others told me I should've joined my arm in hell instead of run away like I did. In either case, both sides and I agreed on the same thing. The item in my hand was a lighter. I started the fire. Unsurprisingly, it wasn't the best thing to have listed on a foster kid's resumé. I was passed from home to home, deemed too problematic to care for. I would apparently be in possession of knives even if they've been locked away, or have this urge to tilt a candle so the flame touched something despite what happened. I was adopted eventually. A retired hero took me in and raised me as if I was his own. I took an interest in the work he did before he hung his cape, so after some convincing I got him to train me. Several years have passed and he told me UAU was how I would further grow in the field. So I'm here. Hey. And don't ask me to use my Quirk. As far as anyone knows, I don't have one. [attr="class","eli-row"] [attr="class","eli-content"] [attr="class","eli-title"]Quirk[attr="class","fa fa-step-forward"] MeldTransformation - D Elijah can melt into any material he touches, which lets him travel along and through it. Anything he wears and holds will transform with him so long as it's feasible for him to carry. If the item he merges with is light enough, he has limited control over it, enabling him to apply force from within and trigger simple mechanisms like locks and buttons. [attr="class","eli-title"]Drawbacks - He can only become one material at a time. If he's travelling through concrete and he needs to climb a metal wall, he'll have to pop out of the concrete before he can meld into the wall to continue his way.
- He has to fully commit to the transformation; he can't stop halfway. Don't expect punches from him while his legs are in the floor.
- He loses his senses when transformed, only feeling the pressure pushed against whatever he merged himself with. He's essentially blind to the outside world until he returns to it.
- He's ejected from his transformation if the material he's travelling through is broken at his location. Becoming a liquid is especially difficult because a splash is all it takes for him to return to his human form.
- The control he has is purely mechanical. He can roll around while inside a coin, but he can't surf the web by possessing a computer.

He likes using his daggers and can surprise people with throwing knives if they try to jump out of his range. Stealth - D+ Elijah has a knack for going around unnoticed. Whether it's the silence of his movement or using blindspots to his advantage, his skill in remaining unseen is better than the average person. And if he ever uses his quirk? The Kit is a lean prosthetic that houses multiple tools within it. When worn he has access to the following: - Miniature blades he can deploy from his fingers, to snip things with a scissor motion. Can also reposition them so he has claws to cling to things with.
- Grappling hook in his wrist.
- Hidden dagger in his forearm. Can never have too many!
- Foam dispenser at his knuckles to put out fires and stabilize structures by closing up cracks.
The Vine - B- Crafted by Sumi OkitaA prosthetic that's as alive as the rest of him. The Vine is an arm that can split into several tendrils, allowing him to latch onto things with a firm grip as well as stretch it out to grapple on something far away. It's unique in that if the arm is severed or burned off, it can regrow as if he never lost it at all. No, he doesn't feel the pain of having it severed or burned off. It's still a prosthetic. When in use, his Strength's rank is replaced with the Vine's, and due to its genetic makeup, only Elijah can control it. The item in my hand was a lighter. I started the fire.
Unsurprisingly, it wasn't the best thing to have listed on a foster kid's resumé. I was passed from home to home, deemed too problematic to care for. I would apparently be in possession of knives even if they've been locked away, or have this urge to tilt a candle so the flame touched something despite what happened.
I was adopted eventually. A retired hero took me in and raised me as if I was his own. I took an interest in the work he did before he hung his cape, so after some convincing I got him to train me. Several years have passed and he told me UAU was how I would further grow in the field. So I'm here. Hey.

- Hidden dagger in his forearm. Can never have too many!
- Foam dispenser at his knuckles to put out fires and stabilize structures by closing up cracks.

The Vine is an arm that can split into several tendrils, allowing him to latch onto things with a firm grip as well as stretch it out to grapple on something far away. It's unique in that if the arm is severed or burned off, it can regrow as if he never lost it at all. No, he doesn't feel the pain of having it severed or burned off. It's still a prosthetic. When in use, his Strength's rank is replaced with the Vine's, and due to its genetic makeup, only Elijah can control it.
