There’s always going to be the haves and the have nots in the world. The focus may change, but the story never does. Food. Shelter. Money. Family. Quirks. It’s nearly impossible and entirely selfish to have everything the world has to offer, but that doesn’t stop Kin from making an dishonest effort to grab at it. She’s lost the spark of enthusiasm for wanting to change the world. It was a nice dream as a child, but she’s only looking after herself now. Early on, people thought that quirkers would change everything. Again, the focus changed, but the story never did. The status quo remained the same for the most part. Only now, instead of shooting guns at each other, people fought with crazy superpowers, devastating the urban environments serving as arenas.
What a time to be alive.
As a connoisseur of the simpler pleasures in life Kin is more than content to sit on the sidelines as a spectator when heroes and villains rumble in the streets. Life is too short to get wasted by unknown energy blasts, elemental based attacks, or just plain old inhuman strength. The lap of luxury under the care of a good air conditioner is typically where her world conquests end, but she does manage to get into trouble from time to time when something worth stealing pops up on her radar. When there is something she has her eyes on, this lazy cat might just risk all nine lives for it.
While out working she retains her casual indifference, though there is an air of relaxed professionalism to her demeanor as well. In and out as quickly as possible, with as little bloodshed as possible. She is not trying to make a name for herself in the world of villainy, and as far as she’s concerned other villains can have the news headlines all to themselves. Kin is merely looking after her own interests. She will work with other villains if a job is lucrative enough, but she doesn’t make it a habit to associate with the more unhinged breed of criminals.

Kin was named after the color of her eyes. Her parents had always hoped that her future would be as bright as her golden optics, so full of curiosity and wonder. They did their best to raise her despite the inherent difficulties involved with the girl’s quirk, and to be fair to them Kin never found herself wanting for anything. Her parents had figured out that video cameras were a way to bypass the amnestic effects of their daughter’s quirk, and used that knowledge to their advantage. Her father was a policeman, and borrowed a pair of broken night vision goggles from the equipment locker before having them modified to work like normal video cameras. Kin had always thought the device looked goofy strapped to her father’s head, but always appreciated the parental devotion all the same.
It was hard to make friends with other kids when they kept forgetting you were there after blinking, but Kin couldn’t really stay mad for long since it was never anyone else’s fault. To save her failing school grades she was eventually swapped over to homeschooling, where teachers could more easily adapt to the girl’s unique needs.
Life was pretty mundane for the most part until she got old enough to start thinking about future careers. Her mother worked in customer service, and that would never go well for Kin no matter how much she tried. It also wasn’t as exciting as the police work her father did. He always seemed to have a story to tell, and local business owners and even street thugs alike seemed to pay him due respect whenever he was in uniform. However, Kin was unable to enlist herself due to her quirk. So she did the next best thing: she became a private investigator.
No boss, her own rules and schedule, and no way for her quirk to trip herself up this time.
She loved the work at first. It was rewarding to help people solve their personal troubles, and it still made her dad proud to see her trying to live a good life. However, not all the jobs were easy on the mind. Kin ventured down a few too many dark corridors, figuratively and literally. Sometimes, a case closed meant a sweet, sweet justice. Other times, justice was an uninviting microwave dinner alone after a long night of thankless work, only to find out that she wished she hadn’t turned over the right stone to find out what was hiding underneath.
Kin never did confront her father about being a dishonest cop, not after everything he had done for her. That wasn’t even the worst thing she uncovered as a private investigator; it was just the case that hit home the hardest. She never forgave herself for burying damning evidence against him, either. Soon after that it became easy to turn a blind eye to things. Then one thing led to another, and a life of crime became as easy as breathing. At twenty-five years of age she moved away from her home city to find some place else to plunder. A new home to build upon lies and deceit, just like her father had taught her.

QUIRK RANK: B-
QUIRK TYPE: Mutant
QUIRK DESCRIPTION:
Kin’s alias ‘Schrodinger’ is a not so subtle hint towards the capabilities of her quirk. The quantum physics thought experiment, Schrodinger’s Box, in overly simplistic terms showcases the idea of how something might exist in two different states at the same time, or quantum superposition. Is the cat inside Schrodinger’s Box alive or dead? One simply cannot know until the box is opened and the cat is observed as one outcome or the other. Until that point, the cat is assumed to be both alive and dead, because neither case can be confirmed. It’s these principles that govern Kin’s quirk.
While she does have cat ears instead of human ears, as well as a cat’s tail, they offer nothing significant as far as extraordinary abilities go.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind:
With the example of Schrodinger’s Box being closed, one simply cannot know for sure what state the cat inside of it is in. Likewise, when visual contact with Kin is broken, blinking both eyes simultaneously included, people simply forget entirely that her physical presence was there to begin with, leaving people to blankly wonder what they themselves were doing. This amnestic effect happens immediately upon losing sight of Kin. Her body will also return to its ‘default’ state of existence, healing wounds and injuries while no one is present to observe that she is hurt.
QUIRK DRAWBACKS:
Socially, Kin’s quirk has made her somewhat of a pariah amongst her peers. It’s impossible to hold a conversation face to face without blinking one eye at a time, but there are other ways to accommodate interactions. The simplest method would be to simply not look at her when she talks to you, but more commonly she talks to people through the use of a phone. How anyone looking for her obtains her number is anyone’s guess; it’s more likely that she’ll find you if she wants to talk.
Physically, being observed only to be forgotten about can be taxing on her stamina pending how many instances occur within a short amount of time. As that facet of her quirk is always ‘on’ it’s always draining on her metabolism and energy the more it gets used. She mitigates this fatigue mostly through a nocturnal schedule and coffee, but she has been known to take cat naps on the job when she feels she can afford it for a quick charge. Her self healing will not work either if she is being looked at.
In a more critical light Kin’s quirk does nothing offensively, and cannot harm anyone directly.

» AWARENESS (B-) | » VITALITY (C) It’s worth noting that instead of trying to stand out, Kin has had lots of practice with blending into a crowd and seeming inconspicuous at a first glance. She rarely tries to attract attention to herself unlike most heroes and villains, and has even practiced breathing and mental exercises to remain calm and unfazed in situations that might have others tense and panicking. |

EQUIPMENT NAME: 9 Bangs
EQUIPMENT RANK: C
EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER: -----
EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION: What’s better than nine lives when you’re trying to escape? How about nine aggressively convincing reasons to force pursuers to blink so they forget you to begin with? 9 Bangs are ‘less than lethal’ grenades designed to emit nine loud concussive blasts and flashes to disorient targets within range of the device. They’re not deterrents that Kin deploys at the first sign of trouble, but she’s not afraid to use them liberally if she has to, either.

SKILL NAME: Archery
SKILL RANK: C
SKILL DESCRIPTION:
A hobby she picked up during her high school years thanks to its solo-friendly nature. It was the first true skill she learned and pursued since it taught her that self improvement can be obtained without the help of others, something that greatly boosted her self confidence when she was young. Archery is still a passion of Kin’s to this day, and a tool she keeps honed and sharpened with regular practice.
SKILL NAME: Judo
SKILL RANK: C
SKILL DESCRIPTION:
Although she never did make it to the police academy Kin made sure to learn some degree of self defense as a private investigator. It’s difficult for her to find sparring partners these days given her change in professions, but she maintains a training regimen to keep herself at the ready. What she lacks in raw strength she makes up for with quick and precise bursts of movement, using momentum and leverage to topple opponents larger than herself.
SKILL NAME: Parkour
SKILL RANK: C
SKILL DESCRIPTION:
Let’s face it, when you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar sometimes your exit plan goes unscripted. A few bruises and scrapes are a cheap price to pay to avoid going to jail. Also, as a quirker that has little to no combat abilities, she’s rather skittish about sticking around for a fight. These urban traversal techniques might seem cartoonish at times, but Kin’s flexibility and nimbleness lend themselves well to the chaotic scrambles.
SKILL NAME: Lock Picking
SKILL RANK: C
SKILL DESCRIPTION:
Her father had told her something once: ‘locks are only there to keep honest people honest.’ Kin believes that her old man is right, as most key locks can simply be forced open with a basic lock picking set and some experience. It’s almost laughable to her how much of a false sense of security these items bring to the unaware. She learned the skill during her days as a private investigator, and she’s gotten pretty decent at it with all the practice she’s had since those early days.
