Quirks only exacerbate this problem β seemingly magical gifts that root themselves in biology and science until they defy every known rule we've cultivated. The models are all off.
What he's built upon this foundation, however, is misleading to most. He thrives under pressure. And when overwhelmed he relies on friends and family to keep him grounded. And more importantly, motivated.

Rey's not one for fashion.
He keeps his attire simple and effective. Even though he prioritizes comfort above all else, he understands he can't walk around in a sweater and sweatpants 24/7. There's standards to society. Standards that he'd adheres to for the sole purpose of making his life easier. The confrontation is not worth it. Peoples' snarky comments are not worth it. Plus... every night is pajama time if you think about it.
That aside, he does the bare minimum. If you look at his closet he's a cartoon character. There's the same outfit multiple times in multiple colors. He'll mix and match at random and try to cross pollinate between get ups to make it look like he's trying. It gets the job done, okay...
The exceptions: haircuts. He sure does love 'em. Less for the style and more for the way it makes his head feel after the fact. Two birds one stone!

I might not have noticed as early as I did if it weren't for my particular strain of superpower. I could blend in with both the haves and have-nots. But once the haves found out I could have more 'haves' they were quick to shun me, too. I still remember the last time I climbed those monkey bars.
My Uncle was quick to put me to work. I was a recluse wasting my life with toys and puzzles and a bunch of other things I'd come to miss. But I still appreciate what he showed me β a real problem to solve. Cars were puzzles. Engines, wheels, axels, frames... in some ways I grew up faster than my peers. In others I stayed a kid forever. Before he moved to Japan, he gave me his lucky wrench. Keep that bad boy on me at all times. Strapped, baybeee.
That's when she arrived. She was my age. Looking for someone. I wouldn't understand until years later when she told me the whole story but we bonded pretty quickly.
