Heroes are people too, they have needs and one of those needs is to eat! Right?" Zenkai explained to his smaller, blonde companion. Once again Zenkai had been paired up with someone he didn't know and sent out on patrol by the school. And once again, Zenkai had absolutely no intention of actually doing hero work. The sapphire eyed titan had learned from his past mistakes with Freja, if they were off eating somewhere and NOT patrolling then they wouldn't run into another villain.

"Listen, I know this great little Ramen joint that isn't too far from here, they serve THE BEST ramen! You ever had Curry Ramen Emi-chan? It's one of the greatest things in existence, ALMOST better than cheesesteaks" The golden boi continued his persuasive tactics as the two of them walked down the crowded streets of Tokyo, the throngs of people parting ways as the two of them patrolled. Zenkai barely paid attention to anyone but Emilia, he didn't need to, he was fucking huge so people usually just moved out of his was when he walked.

Zen knew very little about his newest partner but she vaguely reminded him of Freja, there was something about her that screamed "easily persuaded". He didn't know why exactly, maybe it was because he felt a familiar lack of confidence in her or the fact that he usually was able to convince people to do what he wanted but he was hoping his impression of the girl was right. He was hungry, like usual and he'd rather not dip into his emergency snack stash. The titan wanted to do two things right now. Eat Ramen and slack off and both of those could be accomplished if Emilia just agreed with him.

"So...what do you say E-mil-i-a-chan~?"

Boy was this an uncomfortable position to be put in. The exact kind that Emilia was terrible at and yet was put into more often than not. Similar to her excursion with Jun she had elected to take on a patrol except this time it would be randomly assigned. When she found out it was another first year she was excited! It was always fun to network but this took a complete 180 when she actually met the person she was paired up with. She didn't like to judge by appearances but between his height and outfit, she could have easily mistaken him for an upperclassman. Heck, Emi was above average in height and he was STILL at least a foot taller than her.

Once introductions were out of the way she had expected they'd leave the campus and turn left but Zenkai instead turned right and began to talk about skipping the patrol for food. "Zen I think we should probably go back onto the route we were assigned" she followed him regardless thinking that in normal circumstances she would probably just physically drag him back if needed "Curry Ramen?" her stomach was more honest than her words, growling at the thought of food given her appetite "If it tastes anything like a cheesesteak I'm going to pass those are pretty gross" she lived in Philadelphia for a few months and while her family liked them she found them to be too much. She fidgeted slightly weighing her options, they wouldn't have given them a critical patrol right? They were freshmen which meant that they wouldn't have given them something of that high priority. She exhaled deeply before relenting "Okay but just for a little bit? Then we'll need to get back to the patrol!" this wasn't something she would back down on and would go herself after the fact if Zen still refused.

One, Emilia seemed to be exactly how he thought she would be, afraid to slack off and ignore orders, more afraid of authority than having fun and B, she had horrible taste when it came to food. Of course Zen wasn't going to be one to hold it against her, she didn't know any better obviously. If she couldn't realize how good cheese steaks were than he'd have to show her...Well...Eventually at least. He'd have to work his way up and the first stop to that was getting her to eat some Ramen with him.

"I forgive you" The titan started off completely unprompted, after all she insulted his favorite food and this as his petty little way of letting her know. "But yeah, we can go back to patrolling and fighting bad guys once we're done eating. There's nothing to worry about anyway Emi-chan, it's not like the school would assign newbies like us to an important patrol! That's just asking for things to go wrong! They probably just assigned us to some easy neighborhood where people can meet the new students and get familiar with them before they become heroes." It made sense, at least to Zen. The school wouldn't just throw their students into the deep end and anywhere near the school would be relatively safe considering the amount of would-be heroes in the vacinity.

A few minutes later the pair would find themselves in a rather dingy, run down ramen joint with a single man behind the counter and very few patrons. "Yo, Tanaka-san! Four Curry Ramen please!" The golden boi waved at the owner who bowed at them before going to get their order ready. "Just sit down, he'll be with us in a minute" Zenkai gestured to an open table while he walked to the back and grabbed a few dozen cans of milk tea, handing Emilia a few cans before setting the rest in front of himself.

"So, I guess this is the part where I ask why you wanted to be a hero and what's your quirk and all that "Get to know you" Jazz"

"Huh?" genuinely confused as to why Zen forgave her as she hadn't said anything wrong as far as she could tell. Maybe it was because of her desire to actually patrol and not slack off? It couldn't have been her choice of food unless, of course, his family had created the cheesesteaks which...gross. Regardless it seemed like he had put more thought into this decision to go eat than Emi had originally given him credit for. "I guess...that makes sense?" it did line up with her own inner thoughts about it and Zen looked like the type who did this sort of thing often.

The place he brought her to was pretty dingy, clearly out of the way from more of the touristy spots which led her to believe it was probably a place kept afloat by regulars. The smell was nice she couldn't quite put her finger on it but she had definitely smelled this exact same fragrance before. She could feel her hunger building and luckily for her, it seemed like Zen was no slouch either. He clearly ate larger quantities which caused Emi to feel less judged about how much food she was going to put away in one sitting "My desire to be a hero?" she opened a milk tea to take a sip "Uhm...well I've always been told my quirk is suited for hero work. It basically uses uh...radiation? to give me strength and toughness. I'm still figuring out what it can really do since I'm the first in my family to choose this life" her cheeks burned red with what she felt was a very weak answer "W-What about you? What's your story like?"

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]At least Emilia was able to see it his way and conceded to his point that they would never be put into a position where their presence would be absolutely required. Perhaps there was hope for her yet. If he played his cards right maybe he'd finally have a companion at school that wanted to slack off on their patrols as much as him. It would be nice having a companion like that but somehow he doubted that Emilia would be the correct choice. Freja was a more likely candidate but he'd at least enjoy Emilia's company while he had it.

"Huh...So pressured into it?" Zenkai could relate. Hell, even their quirks were vaguely similar though her radiation seemed a lot more controlled and beneficial than his own. Being able to boost your own physique seemed a lot more useful to heroics than being a walking nuclear bomb. It seemed like a cool quirk to have, a quirk that a real hero would have. "well, can't say that they're wrong, seems like the right quirk to have to be a hero. Maybe we should go patrolling after, I kind of want to see it in action."

"As for me...Granddad wants me to take over his hero agency...soooooo here I am!" Zenkai grabbed one of the bowls of ramen as soon as it was brought to the table and began to inhale it. "Now I don't exactly care to be a hero but family business and all that...Apparently there isn't an escape from it" Zenkai finished chewing and taking before downing a can of Milk tea. "So If I'm going to be forced to become a hero I'm going to make Granddad pay a lot more than tuition for it." The golden boy grinned and pointed his chopsticks at his companion "Both money and reputation, dudes going to regret the decision he made if it's the last thing I do" He explicitly left out mentioning his quirk as usual. People might ask about it but they'd all receive the same thing in return: Silence. He wasn't going to use his quirk so they might as well pretend it didn't exist.

After finishing off his Milk tea Zenkai reached for the second bowl of Ramen "So, yeah...That's basically me. Lazy, hungry, bored and full of spite. Not exactly hero material eh?"

As the bowl was placed in front of her Emi could feel her hunger surging and wasted no time in doing the customary bow before eating and began to indulge herself. Whatever was being used for aromatics made the dish irresistible, aided by her large appetite. Zen was right about this place and the guilt for abandoning their patrol lessened slightly. In the middle of also inhaling ramen she paused to clarify "I wasn't pressured it was more like uh...my quirk is a good fit for the lifestyle? I thought about doing other things..." her voice trailed off as she sipped the milk tea, a little embarrassed by the ordeal.

She would listen to Zenkai explain his background and why he was here "A hero agency?? which one?" she wasn't super familiar with all of the agencies in Japan but if he went to UAU for the family business she figured it was probably a big one or at least one with veteran heroes in it. The idea of being forced into the role made his decision to come here instead of patrol much more clear "I think you have hero potential! More than me since you're built for it" she gestured to show their height difference. She was steadily keeping pace with Zenkai eating more than he probably would have guessed if he judged by appearances. She would finish another round before deciding to ask a different question: "...So what do you do when you're not in class?" she hoped he didn't ask the question in return as she didn't have a good answer.

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]Zenkai raised an eyebrow as his companion explained that they looked at other career choices. "Oh? Like what? Model? P.E. teacher? wandering vagrant willing to throw hands at a drop of a hat?" It was interesting to hear what other people would have chosen had they not gone down the path to herodom. If Zen hadn't been taken in by his granddad he probably would have spent most of his days in the monastery. Or that's what he liked to think. Honestly, he wasn't sure what he would be doing if he wasn't going into heroics. Maybe that was why he had agreed so easily? It was better to have a path you were indifferent to than no path at all.

The titan disliked talking about his family almost as much as he disliked people insisting that he was hero material. He wasn't, there were far more worthy people of being hero material than he was. This was a prime example of why, instead of patrolling they managed to persuade their partner into slacking off and eating food. People like Freja and Emilia and Farrin were hero material. Zenkai was just some lazy bastard who was trying to take the easy route through life instead of trying to work hard.

"Oh he owns the Setsu-" The golden boi was cut off as screams were heard outside of the store on the street. "well...Fuck" Zen sighed as he downed the rest of his ramen before slamming a wad of bills down on the table. "Guess trouble found us..." The large frame of the titan lifted off their chair before bolting towards the door before kicking it open and dashing out onto the street.

Once outside the titan was greeted to a rather unusual sight, in front of him stood a half man...Plant? The dude had the lower body of a human but the top part looked like a plant and the head looked like a gigantic fly trap or some shit with arms made of vines. "FEED ME!" The thing flapped its trap as it screamed. "Yoooooooo...Emi-chan...You ever see shit like this?"

"Uhm..." Emi was caught off guard by the follow-up question considering she hadn't thought of it more than a possibility. To her, it was just one of those things you said and usually didn't have any specific follow-up question so this made things a bit awkward for her. She didn't really have much else that could be said, but luckily for her she was saved by the bell so to speak.

The screams and rapid footsteps made Emi jump in her seat a bit, as it was not something she expected, being so off the beaten path of their patrol route. Zen reacted almost immediately, getting up and heading outside to which Emi was about to do the same but realized he didn't pay so she dropped some money on the table and gave a quick bow before she would follow. The plant outside was definitely something she'd never seen before "I...have never seen anything like this." she wasn't even scared at this point just confused as to how this worked. It didn't even look human and that was saying something given the mutations in society.

If his meal was going to he interrupted by something, it sure as he'll better have been interesting. The weird Petey the Piranha knockoff certainly wasn't very interesting. Honestly the only interesting thing about the moving plant was the anatomical nightmare that was probably this dude's body. It was a cruel fate to be turned into something like that by your own quirk. Cuz like…ain't no one ever going to want to be with a ugly ass plant dude.

"Just like I planned" The titan let out a loud sigh and shook his head as he walked closer towards Emilia. He did not plant this of course, he had no idea it was going to happen, but he was more than happy to make he did. "Good thing I made sure we ate Ramen here or else things could have gotten a lot worse." It was dumb, this was dumb, there was no way in hell that this girl would believe that he had known about this and planned it all in advance, she wasn't Freya after all.

After assessing the situation it came time to divvy up the workload, someone was going to have to make sure civilians didn't get in the way and someone was going to have to stop the rampaging plant. Zen had no intentions of being the latter. "You're up superstar" The golden boy spoke, giving Emilia a pat on the back/shove towards the monster. "I'll make sure no one gets in your way and you show the world you've got what it takes to be a hero. Deal?"

It was truly a sight to behold just a half man half plant running around scaring everyone. If it wasn't actually a threat Emi might have found it comical and clearly Zen didn't think of it as anything too serious. She would watch for a moment before turn to him to hear that this was part of his "plan". Her eyes immediately narrowed. "No, you didn't! You just wanted to eat and got...lucky?" She wasn't entirely sure if she could call this lucky.

She was just about to ask him how they should handle it before she stumbled forward a bit as he pushed her ahead. "Me?! This whole operation was your idea!" She felt a bit nervous about not only using her quirk but this was the first live fire situation she was in where she could be considered the primary. Especially if Zen was working crowd control and didn't intend to fight at all, exhaling deeply she would slap her face with her hands before activating her quirk, slightly cracking the pavement as it adjusted to the sudden shift in weight. She would employ what she had learned in class first by trying to take a civil approach "Excuse me! Could I have your attention for a moment?" the plant man paused for just the briefest of moments before he struck Emi hard enough that a large cracking sound could be heard. Emi, stunned by the impact for a moment, would then crank her head back up, having not taken any visible damage from a strike that likely could have knocked someone out cold "Okay, hard way it is." she would jump at the man from behind using her body weight to hold him down as he flailed around wildly "Zen call the police!" she shouted as she struggled with the plant man trying to keep him from wriggling out of her grasp.

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]Zenkai's eyebrows raised as he watched his partner activate her quirk, causing the ground below her to crack. Damn, school was going to have to pay for that, her quirk was going to get expensive if she did that Everytime. Of course it still hand Zenkai's seal of approval, it was a pretty badass flex to be able to break concrete with just the activation of your quirk alone. What was even more impressive was how quickly she was able to get the monster under control, even after being hit full on by on of the vines. Emilia certainly did have what it took to be a hero, now what she said made sense.

Of course plantman Stan wouldn't be contained so easily. It wriggled and writhed under the grip of the would-be-hero as it tried to break free of her grasp. Eventually the plant thing managed to free itself from it's captors grasp by squeezing the vines between the two of them before prying girl off it's body to continue its pathetic little rampage.

Zenkai was more than happy to watch the scene unfold before him, most of the civilians had evacuated themselves leaving his job to be finishes quite easily. He could have helped Emilia sure but he was more than happy to stand by and let his partner do all the work and take all the credit. But the damned plant had other things in mind. Now it was angry. Now it wanted to get revenge. And in one quick movement, now it had Zenkai its its gigantic Venus fly trap head. The golden boi had decided that the easiest and quickest way to stop the monster from eating anyone else was to have himself get eaten instead.

"Yo, Emi-chan, I'mma need you to handle this dude quickly before the acid starts eating me" It was currently tingling his skin, probably going to leave first degree burns if the thing was taken care of quickly. If not he's probably have to go to the hospital.

Subconsciously Emi had relaxed her grip on plantman as she was worried about hurting him. Her kindness would get the best of her in this case as the thrashing and struggling of his limbs?... Vines??? She was unsure, but this was enough to distract her as he freed himself, and she fell onto the pavement with a loud thud. The extra weight from her quirk was not suited for dealing with speedy people. At least none of her senpai were here to see this embarrassing show!


She slowly pulled herself up and dusted herself off. "Zen I'm go-" She caught herself off midsentence as she realized that Zen was now trapped in the maw of the creature, and she began to panic. On her first patrol she let another student get eaten because she was careless! She was stunned until she heard Zen speaking so casually about her taking care of the problem. Steeling herself, she would charge forward, now unwilling to go easy on plantman she would pull him from behind and then perform a move she had only seen on T.V. She would wrap her arms around him and then lean back fully, suplexing the plantman into the ground. Upon impact, he would stop moving, clearly knocked out cold, and Emi would rush over to Zen. "Are you okay???" she would shout, looking him up and down to see if there was any lasting damage.

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]If it wasn't for the acid that was slowly trying to digest his body while he was still using it Zenkai probably would have said the plantman's mouth was actually a pretty cozy place to hang out. It was great thinking on Zenkai's part, not only was he still able to relax, his sheer mass and size meant that the rampaging plant couldn't eat anyone else and was much slower than it was before. Now it was the perfect target for Emilia to show who was boss. The only thing Zenkai didn't anticipate was the move she was going to use.

A few seconds after jamming themselves into the pants mouth the Sapphire-eyed titan felt himself being lifted up into the air before crashing back down to earth as Emilia suplexed the thing directly to god. It would have been the perfect move to use in Zen's opinion if it also hadn't sent him smashing into the concrete. It was as if the universe itself was punishing him for his laziness.

The monkey king slowly slide out of the plants mouth as the thing slipped into unconsciousness. Zen let out a loud groan as he gave his partner a thumbs up from his crater in the ground "All according to my plan" The would-be hero reiterated as he collected himself, brushing himself off as the sound of sirens approached them. "Worked out perfectly didn't it? We got to eat delicious Ramen AND we saved the day from a not so terrifying plant person! You're welcome" Zenkai grinned smugly. "As thanks you can do all the paperwork"
