She'd lost. Grumbling to herself for the hundredth time today Retsu pushed on deeper into the forest. 

"Why would they just happen to be right where I don't want them. Kami damned world, every fookin' time. Think they're hot shit cause they lucked out on the damn quirk lottery!"

Touching her nose she still felt the pain and the slight unevenness where it had broken. She could even swear she still felt clotting blood run down her throat even though she knew there was no way it was still bleeding after more than a day. Angrily she kicked a branch into the distance while she adjusted the weight of the hefty duffel bag over her shoulder, metallic clangs resounding from the inside as he does. She desperately needed to blow off some steam. That she just happened to have several untested designs laying around was a happy coincidence. 

The corners of her lips curled up. Maybe she'd even see if she could find the lake that was supposed to be somewhere nearby. Nothing quite like seeing a geyser of water erupt after a fine explosion. That said she didn't feel like waiting until she did. Spotting a rotting stump of a tree about fifteen meters away from her she shifts her duffel bag so she can undo part of the zipper and pulls out a random grenade.

She nodded to herself in approval while checking it. Spherical and small enough to be hidden completely from sight when she wrapped her fingers around it the small grenade was filled with birdshot and an explosive payload just big enough to send it flying roughly a dozen meters in all directions. The grenade equivalent of a warning shot. It wouldn't kill and was unlikely to cause more than minor injuries unless it went off while in direct contact with someone or a pellet found its way into one's eye. Even so it was pretty good for forcing people to keep a distance and its size meant she could easily keep half a dozen in one of her pockets should the design prove to work. Pulling the pin out with her teeth she lobbed it accurately into the hole at the center of the stump and waited. 

She didn't have to wait for long. Rotten wood flew in all directions with a loud bang that sent the surrounding wildlife scattering in all directions. That she was expecting. What she was not expecting however was one particular life form that came into view when she looked around after her explosive went off.

"What da fook 're you supposed to be?"

Lylyana had just finished a successful hunt for the day. A wild boar had come to close and she had been able to ambush it. It was thankfully not like a recent hunt where the boar was able to fight back. She had taken a beating then. She looked over the boar. It was still young. It would have enough meat to last her for a little bit at least. She had begun to drag the boar back to her shelter when she heard an explosion. Seeing the wood coming flying past her, she took quick shelter. Her wings were circled around her to try to condense her form behind a tree. What was going on? She was concerned that police had found her and were trying to smoke her out. She shook her head and tried to figure out what the next plan would be.

She needed to deal with the threat or run. She thought quickly but decided she needed to see the threat before she decided. As the smoke cleared, she stepped out, pulling her wings out to make herself seem larger. She wasn't certain what she would see, but she wasn't expecting a single person. She also wasn't expecting her to ask questions. She took a second to analyze the words. She didn't speak much, so she generally needed a second to figure out what was said and what needed to be said back. "I'm a demon. A daughter of Lilith. Who are you?" She questioned, not sure if the person would even understand what she meant.

It wasn't every day that playing around with birdshot caused a giant, winged being to appear. She'd heard rumors of weird sightings in the forests near Tokyo of course but hadn't put much thought into them. Perhaps she should have.

Either way it was too late for that now. Her eye narrowed as she took in the woman standing before her or more importantly, her body language. The spread wings radiated threat but the way she held herself clearly showed it was tempered with a healthy dose of caution. Retsu would work with that. Realizing she was taking a bit too long to reply she quickly recalled what the woman had said.


"A demon, huh?" Retsu smirked as an idea came to mind. Pulling another of her homemade grenades out of her bag she continued. "Ya can call me Bakuretsu, wanna toss some of these as well?"

Lylyana noticed the delay in the human's response. She was curious what had delayed it. Looking the human over, she was certain she wasn't a normal police officer. Was she even a police officer to begin with? Probably not, but it is good to be cautious. She noticed the woman smirk after saying demon. She was definitely not a police officer. She watched the woman pull out another explosive and flinched reflexively to prepare for another blast. Then she mention her name and asked Lylyana a question. What? Who? This made no sense to her.

"You may call me Lylyth." She slowly made her way forward. "I don't know what those are, so I cannot say yes to that question. As I have lived in the woods for so long, I have not come across something like that." She cocked her head slightly in confusion to the object. She was curious, but she had seen it decimate a piece of the woods she lived in. How strong was it truly? She was next to the woman when she finally stopped. She began to look over the device and whether it would be safe to use.

Despite the fact that her internal alarm bells should be blaring at her the closer the clearly powerful superhuman got Retsu didn't feel like she was in any danger.

"Pleasure." Retsu replied. "Huh, really? Sounds rough."

She shrugged. Even though she was sure the woman had a life behind her filled with twists, tragedy and turns Retsu was never one to care. Instead she slowly lowered her bag to the ground so as to not scare her and crouched down next to it before pulling out several grenades and laying them down in a neat row. Picking the first one back up -the very same one she'd been holding before- she turned her head to face Lylyth and began to explain.

"This baby here is a fragmentation grenade. Payload's set for short range usage and the inside's hollow with the kind of standard ball bearings you'd find in any hobby store glued to the inner circumference. As for using it, d'ya see this ring at the top here? Putting pressure on the lever here will letcha pull it right off so ya can properly toss the grenade. Once you've pulled the pin you've got exactly five seconds to get away from wherever it lands. Blast radius is about ten meters."

Putting the spherical grenade back down she picked one of the two nearly identical cylindrical ones laying next to each other up.

"Now if you're not interested in putting whoever you're using your arsenal on down that hard this one's a better option, 's called a stun grenade or flashbang. Now, usually these have huge holes on the side but mine are different. Usage is the same as the rest, hold lever and pull pin. A kid could do it. These holes here at the bottom and top are where the fun comes from. Light bright enough to blind you for a few seconds and leave afterimages dancing across y'r sight plus an extra dose of sound loud enough to deafen ya and fuck with y'r balance. How far ya need to be from these depends on where ya use it, either way, cover y'r eyes and ears, aye?"

With a grin she picked up the third one and held it next to the second to compare them.

"Reason mine've got holes at the bottom is it makes 'em look just like these. Tear gas grenades. Anything downwind of these is gonna have a hard time trying to breathe, see or stop coughing." She chuckled. "Toss a few of these and they won't be expecting the flashbangs. Not gonna explain how to use this one, Ah'm sure ya've got the gist by now."

Placing them both back on the ground she pointed at the final of the four.

"This one's... interesting. Made it recently but haven't gotten around to testing the effect yet. No clue whether it's safe or not."

With a groan she stood up and stretched before looking at Lylyth with an excited smile.

"So, any caught y'r eye, Lylyth? Ya can just pick whatever ya want and give 'em a try. Go fer it."

Lylyana gave her a weird look after saying sounds rough. That seemed like an understatement. She was glad the woman didn't push further into the mess. It was a complicated story to explain. She watched as the woman placed the bag on the ground and began pulling weird metal devices out of the bag. She listened carefully, making sure she knew what they were. The devices were definitely interesting.

After listening to the woman explain everything, she began to think. They were interesting and had their uses. The fragmentation grenade was too dangerous for the situation. She didn't want to shred through prey, nor did she want to hurt herself. She looked over to the stun grenade and leaned over to grab it. The pins seemed a little smaller for her fingers. They were probably designed for those without mutations. She gripped the stun grenade and fit her finger into the pin. "Like this?" She struggled thanks to her large fingers, but was able to pull the pin out. She looked over the grenade and tossed it a good ten meters before she pulled her wing in front of her face to protect it from the light.

Retsu nodded in approval seeing the woman's choice. It's not her own first choice but using it is still a blast. She chuckled at the small inside joke before raising her thumb.

"Yah, like that."

Seeing the flashbang land a little closer than she would've liked Retsu shrugged and crouched behind the nearest tree, covering her ears and closing her eye as she did. All in all it didn't do much but it was just enough to get that little bit of a high. The loud bang reverberated through the forest, dissipating through the wide area without leaving much ringing in her ears. Similarly the flash, while faintly visible even through her closed eyelids, did not have many reflective surfaces to bounce off and get into one's eyes. The moment both vanished and the sounds of the forest slowly became audible again Retsu let out a barking laugh.

"Ahahaha. Ain't that the stuff. Ah can just imagine one of those pricks gettin' caught in the blast. Aaaaaah."

She exhaled with a manic look in her eyes and enjoyed the shiver running down her spine. Taking a moment to let the feeling settle she took a deep breath and cracked her neck. With a spring in her step she walked back to her bag, put everything but the frag grenade inside and lifted it back up to her shoulder. With a toss and a catch she let the frag balance on the tip of her index finger.

"Now, half the fun o' dese things is using them on something of course. Heard there's a lake somewhere nearby, you ever been grenade fishing? Dumb question, probably not ey? D'ya wanna? If so, lead the way."

Lylyana had not been expecting it to hit her as hard as it did. While the light didn't really get through the wing due to the distance, the sound had rocked her a bit. She was able to recover quite quickly thankfully. She was confused by Retsu's statement. She had never heard the word prick before and was not sure who it referred to. "What is a prick and why would they get caught in it?" She tried to figure out what the woman meant by pricks.

She watched the woman pick up the grenades and put them in her bag. Were they done? That's what went through Lylyana's head before the woman mentioned bringing them to the nearby lake. "The area should be safe. I have not been grenade fishing. I hunt via ambush and my abilities. We can, but I need to pick up my hunt on the way." She motioned for Retsu to follow her. She walked towards her catch and grabbed the boar in a way that would be easy to move. She carried it through the woods as she lead Retsu on the way to the lake. It was not too far but still required a hike through the woods. She finally got close to a clearing that she had created that would allow her access to the lake and still have room to eat and take care of stuff. "Here we are." She said as she pulled the boar onto a rock table she had created. "Welcome to my relaxation spot."

 With her hands on her knees Retsu burst out laughing when Lylyana asked her question.

"Ah, ain't you a riot. Never mind that. You in?"

Seeing the winged woman agree she shoved the frag grenade in her pocket and confidently kept pace, nodding along as she spoke. Her eye narrowed at the sight of the slain boar. That did not look like it was slain with any weapon other than the woman's own physiology. She had to consciously resist the urge to walk just a bit further away from Lylyana and instead made sure to stay right next to her the entire time. By the time they reached the lake she was starting to breathe heavier. She let out a satisfied sigh as she let the heavy bag drop from her shoulder onto the ground and raised her arms above her head to stretch.

"Neat place." Retsu agreed. "Come here often?"

She looked a bit more closely at their surroundings. Plenty of privacy and a place to put down food but no cooking implements or signs of a fire anywhere. She'd have to ask about that later. It was possible that Lylyana stuck to a mostly plant-based diet that didn't require anything of the sort but given the stains atop and around the improvised table Retsu doubted it.

"So, the fishing." She continued. "Fish ain't good at taking blasts to the face. Just toss the 'nade into the water and they'll come floating to the surface, simple as."

With a nod of her head in the direction of the lake she took the grenade out of her pocket, pulled the pin out with her teeth and tossed it into the water. She didn't bother to take cover and watched the geyser of water erupt with a wide smile on her face, letting the sound of the blast wash over her. Looking down at her bag near her feet she didn't feel like crouching to go through it and instead pulled another grenade out of one of her pockets, confident enough the woman wouldn't suddenly try to kill her to reveal that she had some on her person as well. With an underhand throw she passed it to Lylyana.

"Your turn, try to aim at a different spot or you'll blast the floaters to pieces."

Lylyana looked back to her when she asked back back here often. That probably should have been obvious. She was surprised at her words. She shrugged and let Retsu explain about the fishing. Lylyana nodded as she explained how the grenades will work. She watched the grenade fly into the water. The geyser was not expected though, as she ducked back a bit. She looked back to Retsu as she was tossed a grenade. She caught it after bobbling it a bit. She gripped the grenade and began to pull the pin. She looked at where the previous grenade hit and began to aim a good ten meters to the left. She threw the grenade and watched the geyser. "Interesting." She said as she looked back at Retsu.

"Thank you. Should we start rounding up fish?" She wondered as she wanted to make sure that they were grabbed for the food. She didn't want to waste it. She looked over to the boar and began to use her claws to cut the boar's leg. Once she gets the leg clean enough, she pulls the leg out of the socket. She bit into the boar, her razor sharp teeth tearing into the flesh of the boar. She was glad to finally have some food. She was certain that Retsu would not want the boar leg. "If you want one, we can try to get a fire going for you."

Looking over the now wavy pond with fish calmly floating atop the surface Retsu began to realize she'd made a mistake. There had been absolutely no consideration as to how she'd actually get the fish out of the water when she made the suggestion. For a moment she wondered whether she could offload the task to Lylyth. Seeing the winged woman in the middle of cutting up a boar with her bare hands quickly dissuaded her of that notion. She sighed.

"Yah, I'll get 'em." Retsu replied while putting her jacket and pants on top of her bag while tossing her shoes and socks next to it. "Fire sounds good, don' reckon it'd be fun ta trudge all the way home in soggy clothes."

Tying her shirt into a knot at the back to make sure it wouldn't drag her down she sprints through the first meter of the lake and leaps in fully once she's certain there's enough depth that she won't land flat on her face. She swam to where she tossed the first grenade, the motions coming easy despite the fact that she hadn't gone swimming in years. In fact, she hadn't been since before... It didn't matter.

Mood rapidly souring she put a bit more force into her swings and squeezed the fish a bit harder. With a scowl she pulled a little on the bottom of her shirt and slid the fish through the opening one by one, a solid five fitting in between the textile and her stomach before she had to make her way to shore. Her mood certainly did not improve upon realizing she'd need to make at least two more trips at this rate. She dumped both first haul and then the remaining ones - that turned out to be three to her great displeasure - next to Lylyana's rock table before flopping down bonelessly on the ground. With a groan she reached behind her and untied the knot jamming into her lower back.

"Gimme a minute. On another note, d'ya have a phone?"

She nodded as Retsu prepared to grab the fish. Lylyana noted that a fire would be good and began to walk towards a weak tree. She struck the tree with her free hand, able to break it from the sheer force of the blow. Thankfully it was only about four inches think and was slightly rotted. She brought it over to the opening and began breaking more of the tree to be able to have firewood. She placed the broken wood into a pile, putting the smaller sticks into a different pile to start getting a base together. It took her a bit, but she was finished by the time Retsu got back to shore for the last time.

Lylyana looked over the fish. It had been awhile since she last had fish. It was hard for her to hunt for fish. She did not have a body made for swimming. It made her ability to swim next to impossible. She then heard Retsu and blinked quickly. A phone? She didn't even have electricity. "I do not have a phone. I live out here with no access to electricity. It would be difficult for me to have a phone or to even pay for it." She had no money, no home, no electricity, no heat. She lived without the basics that made human life so easy.

"Makes sense." Retsu replied while dragging her bag closer to the fire and sitting down next to it. Pulling the zipper open she rummaged through a wide variety of different explosives without any caution whatsoever, occasionally batting away a stray spark from the fire as she did. "Ah, dere we go."

With her tongue sticking out in concentration she carefully disconnected several wires leading from one of her C4s to a burner phone. Holding the side button to boot it up she put her number into its contact list before turning the screen towards Lylyth.

"Ah put my number and name in here, call if ya need me. May wanna go closer to the edge of the forest tho, dun think y've got reception here. Anyway, i'm turnin' it back off now to save battery. Just press 'n hold the button on the side to turn it back on and then the call button to call me if ya feel like it. That's this one here that looks like a banana with half circles at the ends. Phone's pretty tough but try to keep it out of the rain, doubt it can handle that."

Her explanation finished she tossed the phone over to Lylyth while also telling her where she lived in case she wanted to visit in person instead of calling. Seeing that the wood was starting to burn properly Retsu used her combat knife to remove a few of the fishes' scales and innards before sticking them onto some nearby sticks to roast them over the fire. With a groan she leaned backwards, her arms extended straight down to hold herself up while she looked up at the sky. She'd test the rest of her prototypes on the way back but for now she was just gonna lean back and relax. Despite how she usually was it felt nice to do something like this now and then.

...so long as she didn't do it for too long, her nose would start bleeding again if she continued looking up like this. Ah well, she chuckled. There was always something, wasn't there?

Lylyana watched as Retsu took out a phone that was connected to some of her explosives. She looked over the phone. It reminded her of her sister's phone when she was living in Tokyo. She wasn't sure she knew how to use it but she would listen to her instructions nonetheless. She was carefully listening and nodding as she tries to learn to use the phone.

She caught the phone carefully. She was going to make sure it was kept safe. She also understood the address that was told her. While she didn't know the area too well, she did understand what it was. She looked over the phone and found it interesting. It was simple to use from the look of it. She nodded and looked back to Retsu. Retsu had cleaned the fish and set them to cook. She was glad that it was going to be a simple night. It allowed her to eat the boar and possible even some fish. She sat down next to Retsu and pulled her wings in. It was going to be peaceful at least.
