Even if i become As with all good things, tracking down someone of genuine worth was often a task that took some time. So it was with the pursuit of the notorious and remarkably elusive Chainlink. Ishtar hadn't paid much attention to her, largely because she hadn't recieved any notice that the girl was seeking her out for one of Ishtar's 'miraculous wishes'. Instead, what drove her curiosity was something seemingly mundane.
Chainlink was considered a corporate terrorist, but she only seemed to target certain companies. Her vicious attacks all but went around ASTA Corporation and Sonya Chernovna's interests. Why? Ishtar tried to figure it out, what ASTA Corp had in common with the other companies that were spared Chainlink's wrath. It had become abundantly clear during a drunken night of revelry. The momentary distortion giving her a more nuanced point of view.
ASTA treated it's people well, and didn't engage in predatory business practices.
It wasn't anything complicated, Chainlink simply had standards.
That was what drew Ishtar out onto the streets rather than lounging behind the mask of Sonya Chernovna. That was what brought her to the port that evening, on the clear and beautiful night just as a large, invasive shipping corporation brought it's newest foreign ship in for drydock. That was what lead her to stand on the building a distance away from the drydock, waiting for the mysterious Villain to show her face and wreak havoc.
Sonya's mechanical eyes swept towards the hidden security guards stationed around the drydock. They were ready too, though they didn't know that Chainlink wouldn't be alone tonight...

Of the things that could be said about the corporate terrorist known as Chainlink, one stood out as simply inapplicable. It was purely impossible to posit that the woman didn't know how to make an entry.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgZAXNiOse8
Maybe she'd been napping in a nook or cranny of the machine waiting for the arrival of the cargo ship. Maybe she was just sneaky enough to get past everyone. Or maybe... no, no it was definitely the first one. Chainlink was utterly without subtlety in approach or execution, a wild card propelled metaphorically and literally by luck of the genetic draw when it came to a suitable quirk.
Overhead, one of the loading cranes screeched as sparks showered down, heralding the arrival of the titanium typhoon as she exploded into motion, her cheap coat's tattered edge's streaming behind her like frayed wings as she shot across the boom of the crane- and into open space, drawing immediate fire from the automatic weapons of the security team below- with what few sprayed bullets connected simply rebounding into netherwhere with a flash of sparks off girding chains as she spiralled around the boom to the underside, skating just as easily along the underbelly of the crane as its top, launching herself off the boom towards-
A massive shower of sparks triggered as a massive metal bolt seemed to appear in flight, smashing her out of the air and sending her careening to the ground below, her landing shredded a lengthy stretch of concrete into a trenched crater, around which the goons rushed to form up while a groan came from inside the dust cloud.
"Anybody.. .get the license plate'a that... hardware store? Faaaaack me, that stung." Outta the rubble came the leather and chrome-clad Chainlink, her oni-toothed cloth mask still covering her mouth as she waved away concrete dust from the air around her as the security agents howled for her to surrender. The chains covering her body beneath her clothing shifted, ground a little as they chewed up the gravel stuck in their links.
"C'mon, boys. You're not gettin' paid enough for this."

Even if i become Ishtar watched in silence from her vantage point, her respirator releasing another raspy hiss as she snorted at the sudden movement from within the vessel. A sudden crack of metal followed the lurch of movment within the cargo ship. Her mechanical eyes adjusted, twisting and clicking.
Tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick
The lenses refocused for the low light. The sparks providing additional illumination. Gunfire broke out and sitll Ishtar didn't move. She had to see for herself just how far this girl was going to go. The damage to the loading crane was already sufficient to ruin the dry dock. She didn't stop there, she made her way to do some more damage, only for something to knock her out of the air. A quirk?
Ishtar's eyes followed the falling form of Chainlink as she hit the ground, would that be enough to knock her out? No, there was movement, was this girl still quipping? Ishtar's eyes brightened, yes, she had the spark for sure. A good villain had a level of theatricality, power, and the mind to make them all work together. Or in the case of others, the luck and wisdom to use it.
Ishtar watched the quirker who had knocked the girl out of the air make his way from where he was standing amidst the security guards. All of them holding weapons. Even someone with a powerful defensive quirk like Chainlink would have a hard time in a situation like this. She sighed, well that's what she had expected, mostly. Seeing the quirk firsthand had been a delight though. Now, how to handle this...
The beefy man in a tight fitting shirt popped his knuckles as he stepped up to the edge of the concrete crater, his liips cracking into a wild smile. "Man, when they hired me I didn't think I'd get to see action so soon! Hella, this is gonna be a damn good pay day! The legendary chainlink in my killzone!" The man barked, spreading his arms out wide to garner the praise of the guards. Some scattered cheers followed.
He clenched his fists, liquid metal dripping out of his knuckles. "Now, time to put the punk down..."

"LEGENDARY? D'aww, you're gonna make me blush, buddy." Junko threw right back. "But hey, maybe I was wrong. Maybe y'all ARE getting paid enough to throw in for a buncha soulless corporate sharks. Everyone's got their price, ri-"
Without waiting to even finish her quip, Chainlink revved her chains, the links screeching in high pitch as the RPMs shot through the roof and catapulted her behind a set of shipping containers as gunfire unleashed, too late, to track her startlingly fast movements. She hadn't been going particularly quickly when she'd been wreaking havoc, but now she'd picked up dramatic speeds as she shot out of view!
More than once, the gunmen tried to relocate to get a bead on her, but it seemed like every time one rounded a corner, they came flying back the other way on the wrong end of a lariat as one of Junko's chainclad arms released their neck and slung them into a skid back towards their fellows as she disappeared back into the crates. From her vantage point, Ishtar could see Chainlink's relationship with gravity was tenuous at best, and she defied their expectations by skating up and across and over the shipping crates they thought they had her pinned between.
"COME ON, chum! Time to EARN THAT CHECK! Weren't you just rattling on about killzone this and payday that?! Where's all that GOOD TALK NOW, HUH?!"
As a professional, Ishtar could likely see that a properly trained hero could probably overcome her total lack of combat SKILL- but the sheer utility of her quirk's offensive and defensive applications let her pure gumption carry her past the best efforts of the rank and file security gunmen as they tried and failed to earn their paychecks, almost from chaos alone!

Even if i become One man after another fell to Chainlink's onslaught and Cog, to his credit, tried to keep his men rallied. He shouted orders, and did his best to give a sense of control to the situation. But there was little he could do in the face of her almost natural utility. Shouts and cries of pain and fear broke the night, guards suffering under the vicious lariats of the attacking villainess.
She was remarkable. With some training, she'd be a monster.
Cog snarled, blocking the latest attack sent his way with a solidified blob of metal. He slid across the ground, grinding his teeth while the concrete beneath him cracked. His muscles straining to keep him upright. He lashed out in response only for her to vanish back into the forest of shipping containers again. He let out a howl of frustration.
"Quit running around you brat!" He bellowed. "She's just flailing around! Why can't you idiots get a bead on her!"
Far from the fight, on her perch, Ishtar shook her head. That was the end of that. The moment he started on his own men, it was over. She crossed her arms behind her back as her body began to glow. She strode towards the edge of the building and stepped off-and onto a glowing panel of light. Then onto another, and another, she walked across the sky as one panel after another vanished behind her, as if a glowing sidewalk came into being just for her.
The shouting continued, guards focused on the fight unaware of the approaching danger. Gunfire ringing out. Desperate roars from Cog. A veritable din of sound. Ishtar came to a stop and looked down at the men below. Her glowing pink eyes and glowing white skin making her seem like some kind of demon or angel.
Another guard dropped beneath Chainlink's onslaught, Cog using him as a human shield. Ishtar's nose wrinkled beneath her respirator. Cog turned to try to see where Chainlink was going and froze, finally spotting the glowing figure above him. He looked up, his eyes widening. ".....what?"
Ishtar didn't blink as she returned his stare, she didn't say a word. She just watched. Cog grit his teeth, sweat beading on his face, liquid metal rising up and coating his skin. His eyes going bloodshot. He held Ishtar's gaze, his chest rising and falling faster, he didn't know who she was, but he had an idea. Frenzy took over, and he turned to the crates, roaring.
"Show yourself! Settle this now you little witch!" He bellowed.

"Show yourself! Settle this now you little witch!"
"You hear that, boys? Your boss doesn't even care that you're getting thrown around like ragdolls."
Chainlink's voice rang clarion clear as she walked around the corner from behind one of the storage containers.
"That really the sort of guy who deserves your loyalty? Your fuckin' blood?"
No gunfire ensued.
"Didn't think so."
Screeching in rage, Cog erupted towards Chainlink, forming a massive arm out of liquid metal as he swung at her.
Junko's chains ratcheted as she switched gears, the links biting into the concrete to stabilize her as the whine of the transmission dropped into a grinding growl- and she met the titanic fist with her own in a brutally noisy clang of metal on metal! The chains kept whirring, though, and liquid metal splattered in all directions as Junko drove her screaming chains deeper into the gutted metal, trying to find his fist and wrench against his wrist to force him onto his knees!

Even if i become Ishtar turned her attention away from the idiot dripping in liquid metal and listened to Chainlink's mindgames. Her lips twitched beneath her mask as the game escalated, sowing distrust and disloyalty. One of the men actually hesitated to pull his trigger. The girl was a nautral. She seemed rough around the edges, but with the right facility...
Ishtar imagined putting her through the same training that pro-heroes recieved. That should do. The last gun stopped firing as the men, filled with resentment and lack of will to continue fighting slowly threw down their weapons. Cog was not about to be ignored, though, and he shrieked his way towards her. The two clashed, and Ishtar watched as Chainlink made her decision. A visceral one.
The glowing villain wondered for a moment if Chainlink realized what she was about to do and how it would affect someone with a normal body. Cog had his liquid metal to coat his skin with but otherwise while he was quite buff, he didn't have any super regeneration or endurance, no advanced toughness. So when those grinding and whirling chains broke through the wall of resistance that was his liquid metal...
Cog screamed in pain as his arm was crushed beneath Chainlink's onslaught, he fell to his knees with a sob, his arm unrecognizable from the damage. He screamed, rolling on the ground and kicking his legs in agony.
Sonya nodded, "Not bad, Chainlink!" Sonya's raspy voice carried over them. Some of the goons looked up in shock and terror at the woman floating on a glowing white panel above them. "Are you going to finish him off, or knock him out? Either way, he's a bit noisy."

"That's it. I ain't here for you, boy. You're just workin' joes like the rest of us. Unlike this motherfucker. THIS motherfucker right HERE?" Junko roared as she raced in to clash with the asshole losing his cool- and howled as red splash exploded out with the liquid metal she was shedding.
"CLEARLY drank the KOOLAID!!!"
The chainclad punk was already moving to swing a mailed boot across Cog's temple to knock him out as the voice called down to her. "Eh?! Oh, nah. He's just a mook, end of the day. A stupid one buyin' into his boss's hype, but still just a mook." She thumbed at the disarmed crowd. "Y'all can collect his ass and drag it to the hospital if ya want. Or just call in a villain attack if y'don't feel like gettin' involved. Whatever's clever, brevver."
She called out as she marched to the base of one of the loading cranes and peered out into the water, gauging distance and angles. "What's a big shot like you doin' slummin' it down here? Don't get me wrong, I'm fuckin' flattered y'even know my name, but- gimme a sec, it's gonna be LOUD," she added, chains groaning as she revved them up and slammed them into the support beams at the base of the crane, tearing away the inferior material in sparks and splats of molten slag. It took a moment or two, but she broke down the support enough that the crane's weight buckled the beam, sending it leaning towards- over- through the damnable ship she'd come to wreck, sending a clear message to the corporation, and the businesses willing to support them.
That message being "fuck off", naturally.

Even if i become Ishtar watched the outcome of the fight with a dispassionate look in her eyes. The mechanical spheres in her head spinning and clicking. She kept her arms crossed behind her back. Her body unsettlingly still as her head pivoted to watch Chainlink do her work. She was a little surprised to see that the Real Chainlink wasn't a serial killer as had been expressed by many of her peers in industry.
To think she spared people if given the chance. Or at least the grunts.
"How Magnanimous," She murmured to herself, a smile stretching across her lips beneath the mask.
When Chainlink moved away and began the process of dismantling her target she also started to ask Ishtar why she'd come. It sounded like she knew at least a little bit who she was dealing with. Ishtar narrowed her eyes, better connections than she let on as well. Good. She was showing herself to be even more promising.
When the noise finally settled, Ishtar had walked around the spot to get a good look. The ship slid off of it's dry dock with a howling screech of metal and splashed back into the water. Moments later it began to take on fluid, part of it listing in one direction as it tipped slowly in the harbor. Soon it would be partially submerged.
Ishtar clapped her hands, "Well done! You have a talent for destruction, Chainlink," She said, standing on the floating and glowing platform of light. She raised her hand to her chest and inclined her head. Her voice sounded like a death rasp through the respirator, like a death bed sigh. "Allow me to introduce myself," She began, "I am Ishtar. And I am very interested in you, dearie."
