"Ah I get where the confusion may stem from but no, I don't play video games. Though I guess every now and then I'll spend time at an arcade." what Shikyo hoped went unspoken was the idea of why. Spending years of avoiding anywhere that would have too many plants. Even going to someones house became an issue when the girl had to worry about killing a beloved house plant.
The comment about the wrong auditions was sweet. It was nice to have someone care about her music dreams, even in such a small way. "I play the drums, I started learning when I was in Junior High. Had a lot of time to practice back then, parents didn't really care much if I buried myself in the garage for hours... didn't really have too many people to hang out with after school either."
"And I can't say," Shikyo caught herself and looked up at her guest, "I don't really enjoy eating that much at all. It comes off... strange. Have you ever been stuffed but are forced to keep eating more, out of politeness or something? That's what eating anything is like for me. I just go through the motions, wether or not I enjoy it."

It was easy to tell that the girl was trying, and that did make Shikyo able to calm herself at least somewhat. Actually attempting to make her happy seemed like such a small kindness but something she hadn't experienced for such a long time. Ever since that bastard in school ruined her life. Shikyo couldn't let one bad experience... well a lot of bad experiences, taint her ability to meet friends here at UAU. This was a school full of scary quirks, surely she wasn't the creepiest quirk this school had to offer, but possibly her appearance might have made her the most obviously dangerous one.
"I can't say I play too many video games," she shrugged at the question and gestured around her room, which seemed rather devoid of any technology besides a phone and a lamp on the desk, "I usually spend any free time I have making music if anything, though I haven't had a band want me yet. The prospect of death tends to put people off I've found." She laughed at her own joke, no matter how morbid it came off. It was one of the few ways in which the girl could cope with the situation.
Then came the questions about her quirk itself. She was used to them, she got them a lot so it was for the best that she was always prepared for them. "It's an aura yes. The effect is simply stronger if I actually touch someone. So like if I'm standing next to a big tree and we're having a conversation you might see more of the leaves beginning to wilt or fall off, but it would take hours for it to start really showing that it was dying. But if I put my hands on the tree it'll rot by the time we're done talking."
That part was the easier part of her quirk for others to understand. There were other quirks that worked similarly, at least she had heard. Not in that they completely drained things of life, but rather that the touch strengthened an effect. The rest of her quirk was often where she lost people. "And yeah, eating is difficult. But I don't actually need to eat, so it works out in a way. My quirk is actually working by stealing the nutrients from other living things. So any time you see the grass dying under my feet, that's technically me 'eating' you could say. And yeah stuff like rock candy wouldn't be effected since there's no plant or animal in it."

Shikyo was more than used to the sound of baited breath. The look of someone who had seen her face for the first time. It always stung, at least somewhat, but it had been such a common part of her life that the small hurt she felt in that moment paled in comparison to what it would have been years past. She was also showing a small smile as she noticed the artificial nature of the potted "plant" she'd been gifted. At the very least, it was thoughtful knowing that someone here had done a bit of learning about her.
"I appreciate the thought," Shikyo smiled, "I do love flowers. It's a consistent point of shame that I can't care for them like I want." She gestured toward the desk as if to tell them where to place it. For now she didn't want to get too close, it was always a point of difficulty. Her quirk was unpredictable at times, and it always filled her with dread worrying if someone was going to touch her. "I don't know how much you read about my quirk, but it doesn't just work on plants. The knock at the door was certainly a surprise. Shikyo hadn't expected anyone to stop by her new dorm room, she had barely even gotten herself unpacked by the time she heard the voice peaking up from behind the door. They at least seemed to put the girl at ease as they mentioned not bringing flowers or fruit, Shikyo had long sense learned to deal with the fact that often she would be gifted things that would simply rot away in her hands. It was still nice, however, to be assured that this wasn't one of those times.
Shikyo figured there was nothing to loose at this point as long as the visitor didn't get too close. So Shikyo would find herself near the back of the room before speaking up, "Come in, it's open."
When Miroru opened the door she'd be greeted by a room covered wall to wall in posters and album covers for various bands, morose TV shows, or other gothic brands. She would also be greeted by the site of fully grey skin, contrasted with stark white hair, and the noticeable visage of a skull imprinted across the young woman's face. Shikyo would give a small bow to the new house guest she had in front of her before gesturing towards a desk that was placed near the front of the room, a chair sat in front of it.

The skull-faced girl had been giving her best attempt at remaining inconspicuous, but it seemed all for naught as a massive woman approached her out of the blue to ask her questions. Shikyo was normally a pretty unnerved individual but this woman dwarfed her, it was kind of intimidating. Not to mention the multiple arms sticking out from all angles around her. Shikyo looked up at her and tried to figure out how best to answer the question.
"I wouldn't exactly call it an allergy," the girl paused for a moment as she thought through the words. "I ummm... I kind of kill plants if I get to close." her eyes drifted around for a second as she once again ensured she was far enough away from the grass. "N-not on purpose or anything! I really wish I could turn it off. It's just my quirk sort of... absorbs their energy. So if I get to close they'll wilt and die. I really wanna support the cause though. I love plants... even if I can't really show it off much."
She pointed to a small patch of a daisy sewn into part of her denim jacket. If she couldn't have actual flowers she could at least have their designs on her somewhere. Shikyo had actually never been to Tokyo before moving to the city to attend UA. She had been close before, staying in Chiba for awhile after the incident in grade school. Now wasn't the time to dwell on the past actions of her life however, it was to move forward, to grow and become the hero she knew she could be. While UA was great for that, and gave her more than her fair share of opportunities to learn the business and skills it took to be a hero, it seemed like there was something more she needed. A hero cared about more than just fighting and getting their image out, they had to care for something.
Shikyo had something she cared a lot about at the end of the day, the very thing she couldn't help but harm. And to any who didn't know the whole of her situation, she must have looked absolutely unhinged at the moment. She had heard of a wonderful opportunity to get involved in community activism for better care of Japan's natural ecosystem. The problem with getting involved with something like this was that first, many wanted it to be held in a park, to show off that natural beauty. That wouldn't be the worst. She'd just stick to the walking paths.
Certain people bringing their own plants either carried in their arms or pinned to their back, was a scarier prospect for Shikyo. Wether they be flower crowns or someone simply carrying a beautiful piece of flora in their arms, Shikyo must have seemed odd constantly scanning the crowd to see who was carrying what with them, while religiously refusing to leave the dead center of the barely wide enough concrete paths. tagged: Mikoto Mori || word count: 290 || notes: Growth |

At her core Shikyo is a girl who thinks the world owes her something. What that something is she doesn't yet know. She's had a hard life that has left her jaded and angry at a lot of people a lot of the time. She has a strong sense of justice and is quick to fight against anything that goes against her idea of justice. A rebel to her core she wants to tear down everything and build it back better. She often doesn't think before she acts, however, leading to a path of destruction around her. She never intends to put people in harms way unless she thinks they truly deserve it, and even tries to help as many people as she can. Punishing wrong is often her priority over protecting those who need it. She has an average build, a bit more muscular than most because of her years of martial arts, but nothing superhuman. Notably however her skin is fully grey, and her face is permanently marked with a simplistic white skull design. Her hair is the same white color as the skull on her face. She keeps her hair shaved on the sides but long up top, usually keeping it slicked back. She has bright pink eyes that stand out against her dull skin.
She is almost always wearing a punk outfit. Fishnets, denim, ripped jeans, skulls, spikes, belts, the whole lot. The specific outfit may change but she is always dressed in this punk aesthetic. [attr="class","body"] [attr="class","header2"]HISTORY On the day Shikyo was born the white skull and grey skin of her quirk was already there. This was in stark contrast to the sister she was born with who looked completely normal to all. As the two grew up their differences only became more glaring. Shikyo's bright white hair grew in while her sister's came in a beautiful red. Their parents were loving, and cared for both greatly, but others weren't as kind. Shikyo was often given second glances, people hesitant to pick her up or show her the same affection and love they would give to the girls sister. This only worsened when the two reached the age of 6. It was around this time that the twins quirks grew in. Shikyo's sister was gifted with a wonderful ability to control plants which manifested in her making a beautiful flower garden bloom. Shikyo rushed to hug her sister, which was when her quirk began to manifest as well. The beautiful flowers that had only just bloomed quickly wilted at the girls presence. The two were opposite sides of the same coin. One bringing life into the world, the other snuffing it out. Even Shikyo's own parents seemed to look at the girl differently now. This only worsened as more and more of Shikyo's quirk was discovered. While her sister gained more and more popularity for the beauty she could create, Shikyo was a pariah. Even her own sister was too scared to come near her.
Shikyo became the victim of intense bullying. Other kids simply calling her a murderer, a devil, a monster. Shikyo never tried to hurt anyone, but no one could fail to notice as food would literally rot in her presence. The other kids were simply terrified of her, and some turned that fear into hatred. Most where far too scared to do anything physical, not knowing if her powers could affect them. One day one bully did get brave enough however. Cornering the girl in the bathroom they would pounce on her, beating her up quite brutally. Shikyo could do little but hold onto their arms trying to pull them off. It was here that she learned that her quirk did work on people.
The attackers hands slowly turned black. Neither noticed until it was far too late, and the assaulters hands had completely died, necrosis spreading across both of their forearms. Eventually the kid needed to amputate both of their arms. Shikyo as arrested for using her quirk without a license, assault, attempted murder. All charges were eventually dropped as it was proven to be unintentional and self defense. However, the damage was done. No longer just a theoretical fear, to the kids of her school she was practically a villain. While Shikyo's sister only grew even more popular, and grew even more distant from Shikyo. Shikyo's own parents were terrified of her, both barely able to look their own daughter in the eyes. Shikyo dedicated herself to proving that she could be a hero. That even if she was scary, even if her quirk was dangerous, she could be something bigger. She buried herself in her studies throughout all of school. Even without the love she needed from hr family, she excelled in school, and upon graduating was accepted to the prestigious UA. Her journey to becoming a hero finally in front of her. Shinigami, or Angels of Death. Shikyo's quirk is named because of it's ability to drain organic material of life. Both actively and passively.
Actively: With prolonged contact with all 5 fingers on one of her hands, Shikyo can drain some of the necessary chemicals necessary for biological life to form, thus causing what she's touching to slowly die. This ability primarily works on plants, notably she can turn a fully grown and flourishing tree into a decayed husk with two posts of prolonged contact. For smaller plants such as shrubbery or young trees this happens in one post. For things like flowers or blades of grass this is nearly instantaneous.
Her quirk is not as effective on people as it is on plants. For instance grabbing someones arm for a post will not cause death, instead it will just severely weaken the limb, making it go stiff like rigor mortis as the body attempts to replenish it's lost nutrients. Breaking contact at this point will see the limbs quickly heal, going back to normal after only 2 posts. Prolonged contact of 3 posts will lead to a form of necrosis as the body decays while still alive. The skin turning black and the limb going numb, making use of the limb severely limited. The black coloration shows deeper problems which will require medical care to reverse, but if contact is broken then the victim will see feeling return to the limb after 3 posts.
Passively: Shikyo's quirk's passive effect only effects plants. It means that walking through the grass she will leave a trail of dead grass behind her, standing near a tree will see it slowly die over the course of an hour or so, and flowers will wilt in her presence. This is her quirk actively admitting an "aura of death" around her which slowly drains nutrients from plants. QUIRK DRAWBACKS: This quirk makes it functionally impossible for Shikyo to eat most food. Fruits, vegetables, meat, all of them will actively rot as she picks them up. It also requires her to keep her distance from others when they're eating. Instead her body gains nutrients solely through her quirk, absorbing them from the things that she is killing. Already dead things and small plants don't give her much, meaning that at least once a weak she needs to kill something large to keep surviving. Killing a tree daily can maintain her, but killing an animal can last her for a week. Though she never would, killing a person with the quirk would sustain her for up to a month. Shikyo's quirk can not be turned off. This means that she can never risk touching friends or loved ones for too long. This not touching on the psychological issues that are caused by her power. A lack of ability to give affection leading to anxiety and depression issues. Shikyo felt the need to protect herself early in her life, and began training in martial arts when she was 12 years old.
