Damian watched the young man for a few moments; focusing more on his order than trying to crowd in too much. With the order set where Aiden had been setting he’d fold his arms to watch again. There was curiosity in his features; he needed to know what was wrong so he could keep an eye out for it in the other cameras given that they were all around the same year.
”What was the problem anyways?”
With the swap to english following shortly after damian didn’t have any trouble switching either. At the question if he had ever been to new york all damian could really remember of the place was the statue of liberty, the rehaul of a few skyscrapers and a graveyard that his parents were quite insistent him visiting before going off on his ‘adventure’ as they called it.
”Few months at best? New york wasn’t exactly known for its tea. Neither is Texas, Grew up there. Lots of what you’d expect and less of what you’d figure.”
Damian snorted softly at the idea and leaned lightly, making sure that the order was all right. He always double and triple checked his work; the customer was always the focus over anything else. Aidens introduction was easy and friendly but his comment about being a westerner earned a chuckle from damian.
”That obvious huh?”
Maybe it was the way he dressed or the way he talked even in japanese that gave him away even if he was fluent in it. There were some verbal ticks you really could never get rid of...

Doing orders and delivery wasn’t something that occurred all too often so when the call actually came in that someone wanted something from his shop he was… Well surprised to say the least. Ears perking at thephone ringing practically nonstop while he made efforts to close down. They weren’t busy so it was an easy handle; he just wished he had someone that was currently available. Some days his temps or workers didn’t want to work. Today was just that. Which he didn’t mind.
So here he was out and about, looking at the address that he was given and the bag that he had slung over his shoulder. Some group of people really wanted some baked goods and tea but were in a meeting out here so they didn’t have the ability to get to his shop before it’d close. Not that that was a surprise.
Humming to himself he wasn’t really paying attention; kind of just in his own little world. Which is why when he felt the hairs on the back of his neck raise, his head turned and it was like in slow motion that he saw the rotting shark. A single blink brought it closer to him and his eyes widened. He was the only person on this street it seemed and the target was definitely him. His bag started to fall off of his shoulder just as he heard someone yell for him to watch out.
He didn’t get to see who shoulderchecked him but the goat man’s idea of using fire to defend himself in the street went out the window. Self preservation was a strong instinct and even though he didn’t want people to know he could do that he also really didn’t want to get creamed by some big shark.
He went flying to one side and took a tumble his hand had also been grasping at the bag, keeping it upright as he went before skidding to a stop using his hooves… On the side of a wall. It was like watching spiderman work. He’d stare at who had tackled him and what had attacked them both. He couldn’t just leave them right?
”I can’t just let you handle this on your own! Just tell me what we can do!”
Setting the order to hang off of a fire escape he’d grit his teeth; he wasn’t a coward so much as he just really didn’t like fighting. But given that this person helped him he had to return the favor somehow. If this was a zombie… Maybe heat would do the trick? He could potentially cook it from the inside if he got close enough without showing off his flames…

Another earflick and his eyes would go to where the other was pointing out the strawberry danish. If he wasn’t wrong there had been a batch that had just come out of the oven. Practically gliding over to the kitchen he’d quickly come back with the requested pastry. Things here ran like a smooth machine and there was very little that damian couldn’t get people immediately if things permitted.
”Tell me about it, sometimes it’s busier here than anywhere else I’ve been.”
It was certainly no france and there were hardly any of the cities save maybe new york that could quite compare to the mega city that was Tokyo. Hearing that the other was from overseas he’d give a genuine smile to Grant.
”You’re not the only one sir, I’m from america originally myself. Texas.”
The last part seemed oddly sympathetic as though he understood what they meant and hearing that this place was both familiar and comfortable… and then a slice of home? Well he’d beam brightly and lean on the bar counter, a little off to the side so as not to lean over the other’s plate and drink.
”I’m glad you feel that way. I am! My name is Damian. I’m sometimes bad at introductions but food and drink is often why people come here so introductions come whenever folks seem ready to talk.”
He’d motion with one hand to an empty table for a couple that had come on in, they were regulars that just came here to order water and use his wifi for a few hours. They’d ask if they wanted anything else more complex and he’d definitely get them when they were ready.
”Been here for a little while then?”
He’d ask with a quizzicall head tilt, he couldn’t recall seeing this particular mutant around before but… It was also possible he wasn’t entirely paying attention.

Damian himself hadn’t been in japan for the longest and honestly? He felt like he should have come here years ago. It had the ambience he liked, it had the culture he enjoyed and the people around him were nothing but kind. Sure there were a lot of villain activities and plenty of fighting but that seemed so far removed here. The gentle music that played over his head was interrupted by the bell letting him know that someone entered his shop.
His smile widened and the owner of the bovine glided over to the spot that the somewhat exhausted looking fellow took a seat at. Or maybe it was just that he seemed exhausted to damian; he could actually be full of energy but just had one of those faces that made them seem tired. Long work nights maybe? The gravelly baritone earned a small earflick and he’d nod.
”Of course sir! One Small cup of matcha coming right up~”
The owner of the bovine’s tail flicked and he’d place down a menu just in case the fellow would like to check more drinks or food if he was thirsty for more or hungry. Damian himself worked like he had been preparing this kind of drink for his entire life. Humming softly to himself and his ears flicking this way or that as the few other people in his shop spoke to one another in hushed voices.
More so to see if anyone needed anything; did he have a heightened sense of hearing or was this just practice? Hard to really know without asking. The humming came to a standstill when the drink was placed in front of Grant.
”Is there anything else I can get you sir?”
His voice was gentle, soothing, something that you’d expect from someone that had lived their life in nothing but safety. But the sort of person that liked being there for others. Like this was his chosen profession and he was happy.

Damian wasn’t the busiest of individuals throughout the day, his ample tea shop was someplace that many would visit on the off or on hours. Something that he didn’t mind and the start of the day was where he caught the most business. So when the door opened to gift him with the sight of another customer his smile warmed and split his face into two. He’d give a pleased wave to the customer, ear flicking as they asked if there was room for one more.
”Most certainly sir! You can have a seat at the bar or at the tables if you so wish! My name is Damian, I own and run the Bovine.”
He practically glided from behind the bar, menu tucked under one arm and it wasn’t until he came around from behind the bar that his mutation made itself clear. Other than the horns and ears that were atop his head he seemed to have digigrade legs and a long somewhat thin tail with a little tuft of golden blond hair.
”Can I interest you in our tea for the day? Or if coffee is your preference we have a few different pots brewing.”
His voice was almost sing song and he seemed to be speaking in tune with the gentle music that played in the background of the teashop. Everything about this place was meant to be relaxing. From the drinks to the ambience to even the food. Even damian himself seemed to want to give people a good experience here.

”of course, we’ve got a pot already ready and going if you like it black. If not well? It’ll just be a few minute wait at worst sir. Mmm? Danish pastries? That we do. We’ve got a little bit of everything.”
The gentle nature that damian exuded came with being flexible too; the pastries would be easy enough and the expresso even more so. He practically seemed to glide along, his hooves clacking softly against the floor. An ear flicked and he’d eye the other. He seemed a techy sort no?
”If you’d so like to Sir; I wouldn’t be opposed if that’s your area of expertise.”
The smile he had on his face was anything but fake; his steps took him to behind the bar. Behind it where the magic would happen. The other’s order was one of simplicity. An arrangement of danishes and the expresso followed on a platter. Briskly placed on the table that Aiden had sat his things at.
”Much of the stuff in this shop are left over from the last owner, still getting everything fixed into place you know? Mmm. Went to NYU?”
Damian’s eyes sparkled a little bit, he had been there once upon a time and he relished the cities ambience compared to all the other cities that he had visited. If he had picked a different city it would have been there, maybe paris and… Well he was pretty sure the other countries would have loved to have him.
”Ah! I forgot to introduce myself again. My name is Damian. I own and run The Bovine.”
He’d give a curt and polite bow; his smile widened and his tail flicked to one side. Brushing slightly to fix an ajar chair that he had bumped into earlier. Damian wasn’t clumsy so much as someone who tended to make sure his customers had the right of way.

The consistency of customers both short and long term was something that damian could appreciate. Individuals of differing experiences and people that would go from disliking this or that to loving something that they never tried before. A gentle hum and flick of an ear as such a person pushed their way into his store. Well maybe push was a bad way of putting it.
They seemed as though that they weren’t exactly too enthused to be here at first; the way that they ran a hand through their hair to how they were sitting. Very quickly followed by an explanation. A dare? Damian’s gentle smile only widened and he’d nod his head; understanding. She didn’t like tea? No problem! There were plenty of things that he could recommend.
”It’s all right. Not everyone drinks the same thing. But for starters hmm.. Do you like sodas? Or some coffees? Maybe even juices?”
There was a variety of drinks that he could suggest from that list; some teas that were sweeter, some that were more akin to fruits and then there were the bitter teas good for making use of a bodies natural resources to help fight against sickness. Though the lattermost would be something that someone who didn’t like tea… well wouldn’t be a good choice he felt.
He’d lean on the bar, ears flicking a little bit. Thankfully there weren’t many people here at the moment and the two of them could talk at least without the chance of being overheard too much. A few regulars that kept to their own business and jackie likely didn’t seem to be the sort they’d want to mess with anyways.
”Ah right. But my manners. My name is Damian.”
He would have offered her a menu, but honestly with the entrance and question she had well… It was better this way no? Damian was well dressed for a tea-shop owner and seemed better off than what you’d expect.

He was maybe a few paragraphs in when the ringing of the bell by opening his door brought his attention to the real world. Or as real as you could make it; there was an infinite tenderness to his eyes and demeanor. The calmness he exuded was easily identifiable by the nature of his response to it; crisp closing of his book. Immediately identification of a new customer; he had been doing this sort of thing for years. Even if this wasn’t the place he had been doing it in.
The young woman that entered was someone that was troubled; either by some event or something that happened recently. Or maybe she was just stressed because of some other factor. He got it and she definitely needed something to ease that tension. He’d slowly stand off of his stool, the slight difference in height until his hooves touched the floor made him seem as though he was only a few inches taller than he actually was. Her question brought a bright smile to his face, maybe a little too bright? Though he was cheerful and gave a slight nod of his head.
”Newerish, we just finished remodeling. Prior owner wasn’t really a tea shop I’m afraid.”
His hands came together after a small wave and his smile brightened a little more; introduction was in order wasn’t it?
”But, Welcome to the Bovine. I’m Damian. Can I get you a seat? A drink? Something to eat?”
He was hoping that his friendly demeanor and calming nature would help this person feel comfortable. He could tell that maybe being in a new location was a little nerve wracking. That wave that she gave him spoke volumes and he’d be sure to work with them to create a place where she could feel safe and comfortable.

The lack of customers at this point of time wasn’t really worrying to him, so he just hummed away and kept on fussing with the camera from time to time. Knowing it was the motor he would just eventually turn away when he heard the jingle of the door. His deep purple eyes were gifted with the appearance of a man who… Well. He presumed man that was wearing some kind of mask. It wasn’t something that he saw very often but he knew that some people needed them for one reason or another.
A flick of his ear and slight adjustment of his tail brought him off of his ladder just as the ‘first’ customer of the day asked him about the technical issues. Or rather greeted him and then asked about it. The smile that damian had was warm, inviting and gentle. Not too wide, not too small. The sort of tempered smile that was easily the sort that could deflect worries if needed but here? It was the sort that showed that he was very relaxed and easy going.
”Unfortunately yes, motors in it must be broken.”
Given that most of the security was from the last owner and that owner had skimped out on a lot of things left… Well a lot to be desired. Wiping his hands off with a cloth he’d step over, the soft clicking of his hooves on the floor brought attention to his movement and further attention to his mutations no doubt.
”But yes! Good morning. Do you need some time to look over menus or do you have a preferred drink or meal in mind?”
Meal was being generous, most of his food was stuff that went with tea. But if someone wanted he could easily get them something delivered here if he didn’t have it. 30 minute wait or something with ExcessEats and all that.

It was a rainy night which opened up into a rainy day, the gentle pitter patter stirring him from slumber. Rubbing at his eye he noted that the forecast said that it’d be this way for the next few days. Shrugging his shoulders all this did was remind him of the time he spent in new york city. A constant rainy yet full of life city. Much like Tokoyo he could draw many a parallel between them.
Full of hard working people that just want to live their lives and get as much comfort as possible. The thought of this made him smile warmly as he made his way downstairs, noting that he’d need to keep most of the business inside today. Adjusting some of the tables to give more room and stick maybe… two? Three tables outside with the patio shutter drawn first and foremost to give folks dry cover. The plants that needed the most water set in areas where the rain would feed into them well enough while the drier ones were set closer to the entry and inside.
He was a little late to getting to the baked goods today but that was fine, he’d just stir up some more tea and probably put out a few more menus encouraging pre-packaged goods for until he was ready and able. The whirring of the cameras caught his attention and he’d have to get a ladder to start paying attention to one that wasn’t exactly moving as he’d like. Fiddling with it a bit while he waited for customers.
It was a lazy day, then again most of his days were lazy. He wasn’t here to make money, he was here to have people enjoy themselves. The music in the background set a soft and gentle tone; there wasn’t much over the radio that he particularly enjoyed anymore so it was all from pre-recorded instances and places he had been.
The gentle call of birds, the stirring of rainforest mixed in with the gentle voice of a man that had long since passed. He’d sit on the ladder and exhale softly as it was like dopamine pumped through the air into his ears. The gentle string instruments reminding him of the few times he had run into performers in france.
”Mm.. Wonder if they still play..”

There was a softness in the air that he couldn’t really describe, it was like that sort of softness that you felt after a heavy rain. After the day had started to open up after a somewhat fitful night. He was glad that he didn’t have to deal with shattered windows, spray paint on the walls or overturning chairs. Many places that he went didn’t take kindly to foreigners or newcomers infringing on business; but maybe because he was so close to U.A.U he was spared that kind of hub bub.
Either that or the heroes were doing their jobs and keeping the streets fairly clean. Humming to himself he’d set out his tables, prop open the various umbrellas and check the forecast. With there being no chance for rain this week he’d make sure that people were encouraged to sit outside but allowed for four or so tables to remain indoors, adjusting the plants and the like so to give folks something to look at.
Menus were next, followed by some suggestions for each table based on what plant was sitting next to the table. Certain scents with certain tastes, those certain tastes also went well with certain menu orders. Outlined and gentle suggested but not imposed. He always made sure that his customers came first but he already knew that some of the tables would remain unfilled.
The bitter tasting tea was the slowest to sell, but the ones that were energetic quickly were out of stocks. Leaving him hemorrhaging in some fashions. There were times that folks wouldn’t buy anything he suggested and he’d have to mark it down in the freshness window.
A few customers to start his day and his humming didn’t seem to stop, the gentle music over the intercom setting it more in the midst of a beach rather than a bustling city. The waves softly lapping at the shore while the gulls occasionally chimed in in the distance. The music was something you’d hear from those off in the distance gentle states or nations.
Eight tables outside, four inside, a plant each. The tea shops first floor was lined with shelves that had many different options for tea. The steady whirr of a few camera’s here or there; though they never seemed to point at the tables, they were more to cover the many different things he was selling.
Last but not least the smell of baked goods gently touched that of the inside portion of the shop. It’d take a little bit but he always made things fresh for his customers and seemed to keep a strict adherence to their freshness. When he was ready his sign on the front door flickered and the ‘Open’ neon sign sprung to life. Its warm and inviting hues was only matched by the man that was sitting near the front door, on a stool, reading his book, waiting quietly for more folks to show up…
