''You clearly haven't been, sleeping through your obligations is hardly managing just fine. Heroes don't just get to sleep on the job.'' She was being a bit harsh, but she felt like with Mako she had to be. She didn't want to mince words or dance around the issue, sometimes being direct was the solution and the shark girl clearly wasn't as receptive to help as she had hoped. ''I understand what you are trying to say, your quirk type is uncommon, but make no mistake, you're replaceable. We all are. If you can't keep up they'll find someone else.'' She was a little somber at that last part. She had seen it all too many times, even back when she was a student herself. Mako's frown wasn't lost on her either. It was faint, but she noticed there was something, a problem? Frustrations? ''However...'' She continued, her tone remaining calm. ''No one expects perfection from you either. Despite how it looks no one can do this alone, taking this career path. UAU is demanding, but it's only to prepare you for what hero life is like.'' She put her hands behind her back and smiled softly. ''You have to learn to rely on others. Your peers, your future colleagues, or me, for now. Everything we talk about is confidential and oftentimes it's easier to talk with a stranger. It may not be something you're learning about in your classes, or read about in your textbooks...'' She pulled up a chair and sat down while keeping a respectful distance from Mako to give her space. ''But this is a hero lesson all on its own.'' Would she be able to make any progress with this student? She couldn't exactly help her if she didn't want it. ''I'm curious, why do you want to become a hero?''Hojirozame Mako

Jun was strong, stronger than she gave herself credit for. Many people couldn't talk about their feelings or their past like this. Those who didn't usually self-destructed somewhere along the way. She had seen it in her peers all too many times, heck, it was part of why she took this job, in the hopes that she could make a difference. She hoped that years from now, Jun had put all this behind her and could look back at how much she had grown when she remembered these conversations. For now, all Sadako wanted to do was be here to support her and her needs. ''Of course, take as much time as you want.'' She stood up and walked over to her little kitchenette to start up the electric kettle. ''I'll make you a cup of tea before you go.'' She had her back turned for the first time since their conversation began. ''You've done really well today, Kanjo-san. You've taken the biggest and most important step to improving yourself.'' She made herself half a cup too since she was done for the day once this meeting was over. Not that she was going to rush Jun or anything. She knew how exhausting and overwhelming it could be to share so much about yourself. ''Here.'' She smiled, putting a cup of tea in front of Jun. She didn't have to drink it, but Sadako wanted to offer one as a gesture of kindness. junsuina

Survivor's guilt. Significantly worse than dealing with accidentally injuring your classmate. Jun's problems went a lot deeper than the surface level. Sadako had heard of Stryker's Island, although the memory of the news was blurry the named invoked unspeakable sadness. Jun was a victim? Maybe if she had done her research better she would have known, maybe she could have helped Jun sooner... She pushed all those feelings away for now. Her own doubts and insecurities was for after the meeting, those she could examine on her own. She could let that keep her awake at night as she realized how futile her effort to help the students of UAU might be. Even so, she kept pushing on. ''Take this how you want, Kanjo-san. Me, as well as many others are glad you are alive today.''Apparel knows Jun? At least enough to be on a first name basis with her. Sadako wrote her name down and made a note of contacting her about the incident later. Jun was clearly in pain and she wasn't going to torture her by asking her for every little detail here today. ''I know you didn't want to hurt her. Unfortunately she is hurt, but what is in the past can't be changed, not by you, me, or anyone else. But you can be better. You're not a monster because you're capable of change. You're not a freak because you're human. Ultimately, Momo is fine and she is going to make a full recovery. What happened between you two is sad, but it's also a learning opportunity. What do you say you and I make it the last time you hurt someone on accident?'' She smiled reassuringly, giving Jun a little wink. junsuina

Problem students were nothing new to her. Heck, how could they be? She had been at this job for years now and there were bound to be troublemakers at school. Whether it was high school or university, didn't change a thing in the grand scheme of things. ''That's right, although I would much prefer it didn't become a waste of time for you. I'm sure you want to gain something from our meetings as well?'' Maybe she saw it as a waste of time now, but if she had some issues they could work through together, then maybe in time Mako would come around. ''Hm?'' She smiled, listening patiently for what the student was going to say next. In all her years of counseling... Was she trying to take a nap on the couch?? She narrowed her eyes at Mako as she stood up and walked around her desk, stopping at the food of the couch with her hands behind her back. ''Hojirozame Mako. These meetings are not for you to sleep through. First and foremost, they have been organized for your sake, for your benefit. Your ability to study and by extension, become a pro hero is being called into question. The school could have grounds to expel you with enough transgressions and disrespect. I'm here to stop that. I don't want that for you. I believe in your potential, but I need you to work with me to show the administration that you have what it takes. Unfortunately for you, that means we're going to have to talk for a little while.'' She shrugged. ''You're free to hate me, or give me a bad review. I just care about helping you.''She left room for the student to respond, before asking her another question, getting to the heart of the issue. ''Why are you falling asleep during class?''Hojirozame Mako

''You do what you can, Kanjo-san.'' There was a somberness to her tone. Although she didn't understand all that was going on with Jun, she did recognize the feelings of insecurity in her, almost like she was looking into a dark mirror. ''We all do, and that's all anyone can ask of you.'' She looked down at her notes for a moment, recentering her thoughts before looking back at Jun. ''Of course that doesn't have to mean heroism. I'm not saying give up, but if you talents are better suited somewhere else, don't see changing careers as admitting defeat. Some people in our field inevitably do and end up hurting themselves more in the long run by hanging onto a career that isn't fulfilling for them.'' She offered warmly. The island? This was all new to her, was she talking about her past? If that was the case, maybe it was plaguing her a lot more than she had initially thought. Carefully, she spoke up again. ''Who is Suyo?'' Had she missed something? Was it already provided in her student file about Jun and she had overlooked it? Surely not something this important. ''Kanjo-san, can we do something together? Don't worry, I won't get close to you. Take a deep breath, with me.'' She inhaled, taking in air until she could feel it all the way down in her stomach. ''Then breathe out.'' She breathed out, ''One more time, with me.'' She wanted to help ease some of her nerves, even just a miniscule amount. ''Tell me as much as you're comfortable with. We can end this session at any point now and pick up another time.''junsuina

For once, she was glad that the student she was seeing today wasn't being called in because of anything terrible. Sure, she kept falling asleep during class, talked back to her teacher and probably didn't listen to them either... But! At least it wasn't because she had gotten into a super-powered fight with someone, or gone through trauma in a villain attack. At least not as far as Sadako was aware. Mako was a curious case, classic delinquent on paper, but she hoped to find some underlying reasons as to why she was acting the way she was. ''Hello, Hojirozame Mako I presume?'' She smiled warmly from the window. ''Please, have a seat. I'm Gotoh Sadako, the school counselor. Would you like anything to drink? I can make tea, coffee, or get you a glass of water.'' Small as she was, especially compared to Mako, she always wanted to come across as friendly and nonthreatening. This was a counseling session after all. Technically, Sadako wasn't one of the teachers, she just worked closely with them, but it allowed her to take a different approach with the students. ''I want to start by asking, how are you feeling?'' If Mako wanted something to drink she was going to get her a drink and put it next to the little table by the couch she could sit or lie down on. Even if Mako didn't respond or want anything, Sadako grabbed a cup of black coffee for herself. ''You've been called to this meeting because you've been falling asleep during class.'' She wanted to reconfirm the events with Mako. The fact that Mako had said a few unprofessional things to a teacher, to her that was the lesser problem, Sadako was much more interested in the fact that she fell asleep during class. ''In your own words, could you describe your quirk to me?''Hojirozame Mako

''I don't envy you. You have a whole class to look after, it must be hard to differentiate their learning so that every student gets an equal amount out of the lessons.'' As opposed to her who usually got to sit down and talk with them one on one. She didn't press him any further on the shitlist thing and just let the conversation flow as she sipped at her drink. Especially not when May brought up crushes as juicy gossip. Sadako was the last person who would want to engage gossiping about crushes, considering how head over heels she was for Felix. When Hebiru brought up Junsuina Kanjo, she shook her head gently. ''She has, hasn't she? It could be related to the incident, though one would think she'd be a little less eager to get into trouble after that?''She looked over when another new arrival made his presence known. Just one glance and she could tell he earned a different kind of hero money than she did, or maybe she was just that poor with her finances? ''Nice to meet you, Doctor!'' This was one she knew by hero name too. Not all too well since he was a foreign hero, but with a quirk like his how could she not be a little jealous? It was like the perfect quirk for counseling! ''Hey, can you tell how I'm feeling right now?'' She smiled, pointing at her face as she wanted to test his quirk. She was happy to be here, surrounded by colleagues on her way to getting tipsy. In fact, she was just very happy overall, but would he be able to parse that hint of jealousy within her? Yanai HebirulonewolfNurse MayHasani SernaShirayuki Mai

''Cooking can be a personal thing.'' Was all she added, she wasn't about to admit that she ate cheap takeout food more often than not. She did want to get better at cooking, she just didn't have the time to really focus on bettering her technique. ''The rats?'' She laughed at the idea. The odd rat with a quirk might grow that big these days, but he made it sound like it was an infestation. ''I found it was a bit like Tokyo, if you do visit my advice is leave the touristy areas when you go out for dinner and try to find something more local.'' She hadn't been much farther west, but she would love to go back to America someday, maybe on her next vacation. ''You're on Iphi's shitlist?'' She smirked at Lone Wolf. ''You must have done something pretty stupid to end up there.'' She teased, downing what little was left in her energy drink. ''I'll help 'spirit' this party then!'' She smiled at May, accepting a new drink. Unlike Mai she didn't have a patrol to go on, just paperwork to do back at the Ouros Agency. ''Surely that means the students are improving, right?'' She offered a little shrug at Lone Wolf's comment about needing more elaborate traps. ''Fish-related trauma too. As if the Elementalist wasn't enough,'' She let out a sigh. ''UAU just can't catch a break.'' She looked down at her glass. ''Well, alcohol is a good start.''lonewolfNurse MayYanai HebiruShirayuki Mai

''I see, I suppose there is a big cultural difference between here and America, so it's a good place to start again.'' Lone Wolf was an interesting case to her. They were both in some position of authority at the school, but their views on how to best help students varied wildly from what she had heard about his lessons. ''Any I would recommend? Hmm..'' She took great joy in pretending to think of different places when she already had one in mind. ''I loved New York when I went abroad, it's a total culture shock.'' She added with a smile. She was taking a sip of her drink when May arrived, offering her friendly wave. ''You must be the new nurse? I'm Sadako Gotoh, the counselor, I look forward to working with you.'' She bowed politely. Why was she being so formal today, addressing her colleagues by last name? Maybe it was just her nerves. When was the last time she had been to an event like this? It could easily have been a full year already. Well, whatever, she had her own food to grill. She blinked, doing a double take of what May just said. ''Sangria? You're really bringing the party spirit.'' She teased. Sadako had brought an assortment of chicken, fish and vegetables, all her favorites for the grill. Jun's self-esteem issues were significant. It was impressive that she had gotten so far in UAU, all while bottling up what Sadako could only imagine was a storm of intensely violent emotions. Had her thoughts been eating away at her? If so, for how long? Jun had been notable ever since her first year, but she was never aware of just how much this girl was putting on herself. Pressure to succeed, lack of self-esteem, anxiety and fear when getting close to others. It wasn't sustainable, she needed help. At least so long as she insisted on pursuing heroism, but why? Why was she pursuing heroism if the job brought this many hardships on her? When Jun protested she didn't speak against her, she simply let her speak her mind, hopefully easing some of the pain, if even just a sliver. When Jun asked her hypothetical question, Sadako mulled it over, but she kept her attention on Jun instead of letting her thoughts drift. ''I believe in people.'' Putting someone in a coma in the hospital was rough, but she couldn't keep punishing herself like this. ''I believe we will make mistakes we end up regretting, but I also believe we can all change for the better. You have shown that you want to change and that, to me, makes you brave. Let's table the discussion about treatment for now, think about it until next time, okay? Try not to be too hard on yourself, Kanjo-san. To err is human.'' She smiled reassuringly. junsuina

Sadako also withdrew her hand once she could see how uncomfortable Jun was getting. She didn't like making her uncomfortable, but it was all vital information in helping her get better. ''Sorry about that, thank you for trusting me.'' She smiled, taking a few more notes. ''I'm convinced that this will be the best method going forward. At least for now, but I will need your full cooperation, Kanjo-san.'' A low-risk method of treatment, it was the only right thing to do unless more drastic measures had to be used, but if it came to that Sadako unfortunately couldn't help Jun. ''Exposure therapy is a form of treatment used for fears, phobias and other forms of anxiety.'' She put her notes and pen down as she explained. ''It involves exposing the subject to one of their fears in very small increments, with the hopes of improving, or even removing the anxiety entirely over a long period of time. In your case, it would mean that we desensitize your body to the fear of physical closeness. At least to such a degree that you'll have full control over it and it won't interfere with your day to day life.'' If they could get that far without any drastic measures that would be perfect. ''Of course like I said, I require your full cooperation for this method. That means for our next meeting and subsequent meetings, we are going to work on controlling your closeness anxiety. I will try to never overstep your boundaries, and you will have to communicate them to me clearly. If our hands on the tables become too much, we can start even smaller. Slowly but surely, we'll move your boundaries, but only when you're ready.''She smiled warmly at Jun, the way a mother or big sister would. ''We all struggle with something. It's only human. The fact that you've taken the first step forward to get help already makes you braver than ninety percent of all your peers. You also clearly regret what happened. Only someone with a compassionate heart would.'' Hopefully she could help put her mind at ease, even if the incident stayed with Jun for a long time. ''Yeah..'' She said solemnly with a soft nod, acknowledging Jun's hardships with her quirk and her emotions. They came in here from time to time, students who struggled with quirks and emotions, especially when their quirk was directly powered by them. She even had colleagues, pro heroes who still struggled daily. If only there was one, simple cure and she could just give it to Jun. Something to take all the pain away, she wouldn't hesitate. ''Have you known Kaida-san for long?'' She wrote something down again, but continued to keep her relaxed and friendly focus on Jun as she talked. ''Perhaps it has to do with how well you know a person. Touch is based on trust. If you can trust someone and know they aren't going to do anything unpredictable, perhaps then your anxieties don't flare up?'' It was just a hypothesis, but it was food for thought. ''Do you trust me, Kanjo-san? Place your hand on my desk if you do.'' She leaned forward and would place her own hand on the desk, next to Jun's if the student felt like it. Their hands weren't touching, but they were within proximity of each other. ''Does this activate those same fears? Is it closeness, or specifically touch?'' She was starting to get a feel for what Jun was going though, at least enough so that she knew how to proceed. ''Are you familiar with exposure therapy?''junsuina

''It's okay.'' She reassured her, keeping her tone soft and friendly. It pained her to see how hurt Jun was. Normally if a student started tearing up she would offer them a hand, a shoulder to cry on, but given Jun's anxieties she couldn't exactly do that. She did however, take out a box of tissues for her. ''Your quirk... It's controlled by your emotions, right?'' She scribbled something down. It was safe to say that even if Jun hadn't used her quirk on Momo, it was undoubtedly putting a lot of stress on Jun's body and mind. How couldn't it? Emotions were strong, but also volatile. ''You're not a monster.'' She reassured her. They might just be empty words to the upset student, but she needed to hear it all the same. No matter how many times Sadako had to say it for her to start to believe it. ''Your anxieties, are they tied to physical touch specifically? Do you think there is anything else that could have triggered your response? You don't have to be sure, just try and tell me what comes to mind.'' Jun was going to be a tricky case, but she still saw a way forward. Questions to ask and things to try. If Jun wanted it, she might even suggest follow-up sessions to monitor her progress and perhaps give her a space to vent in her office. It all hinged on how Jun took to this conversation. junsuina

With the change from spring to summer Sadako could finally start to enjoy the outdoors a little more. Not only that, but with the summer break fast approaching she would get a break from her counseling job, at least for the most part. Students rarely came to her with urgent matters over the break, but it had happened before. Still, with the coming of summer, there was a different air about the campus, like everyone was collectively relaxing a little bit. ''It's been a while since I've been to a barbeque, especially the American kind.'' She strolled up to the others carrying an energy drink in one hand and keeping her other on the brim of her big summer hat. As much as she enjoyed the summer she was also from a family that consisted mainly of snow and ice quirks, so the Sun was a merciless entity to her pale skin. ''Do you miss it back home, Browning-san?'' She looked up at a couple of clouds drifting by. ''Before I started my hero career I stayed abroad in America, but I couldn't help but miss my home the entire time.'' She smiled back at them, directing her next question at Mai. ''Have you traveled abroad, Shirayuki-san?''Shirayuki Mailonewolf
