No, in conjunction with his classmate's efforts — had Shion always had access to such explosives? — they had managed to wound the creature. Visibly so. Though he'd figured the steam before to have been a sign of success, or at least of greater machinations at play, tangible evidence stared him directly in the eye.

heheOr, he supposed, the titan more accurately bore down upon the land-based combatants.

heheClaudio's eyes shot wide, his mouth staring agape at the suddenly announced menace. He'd anticipated the creature — machine? he wasn't sure — to fight back at some point, but he'd hope, when that time came, it would take a focus on him. As far as he saw it, and however right he may be, he was the one least likely to be seriously injured by this calamity.

heheBut, in the destruction of the monster's wake, so too was another student crushed beneath its wrath.

heheClaudio's eyes darted about the scene. His characteristic grin, though apparent, had dimmed from what it once was, now overtaken by an intense focus. His partner in the air — his "wingman," if you will — was already on the move, from what he could tell of his sudden appearance higher in the air. Had he launched himself further above? Whatever the case, Claudio assumed the smaller golems had their attention stolen by the witch, and, even if they weren't, he wasn't too alarmed if they came after him first.

heheNo, as the colossal figure aimed to rain upon Elijah, the cloud instead shot his arms forward, his skin stretching through the air as he attempted to reach the giant's knuckles. With all he had, he attempted to hold back the thrown fist, using every particle at his disposal to at least slow the descent.

hehe"I'm fine on firepowe'!" he'd shout, a majority of his attention going towards his pull, "Help yo'rself, broomshtick; jusht try not to blow me up too!"

In his lack of experience with the world beyond his country — his state, if he was entirely forthright — he'd not so much forgotten his dialect as the thought of it slipped from his grasp. Even as he was now, though his accent was distinct in its enunciation of the Japanese language, he spoke with the notion of his manner being the "default."

heheSuch was the fun of leaving home, foolishly ambitious as it might be. Mindsets like his were surely uncommon. In this corner of the world, a whole sea away from where he'd once staked his life, he was no longer the default. In fact, nothing in Japan had thus struck him as the "default." Everything was, at almost every point, so infinitely lively in the many different directions it pulled.

heheHowever, despite that effect, Claudio still found the gap between his intentions and his place as a student at UA.

His legs, crossed, with sandaled feet meeting at the middle point, Claudio's hands spoke just as much as he did, jutting to and fro as words flowed out. "But UA's mo'e like, a stepping stone that might help me out the mosht later, y'know?" His hands shot up as he continued, his grin remaining all the while. "He'oism's neat and all, but I'm not so spea'-headed on going straight to that — I wanna keep my optionsh open!"

hehe"Honeshtly, though," he sighed, his hands moving down to grasp either of his feet, "I'm su'prized all you guysh are so gung-ho about becoming heroes. Do you guysh eve' think about doing anything else with you' life? Like, an idea if ya fail as a he'o? Genuinely, I'm asking!"

heheAs the two continued on their stroll, with little resembling the chaos expected of Babel along their path, there eventually came a clamoring. As they further continued down the sidewalk, the growing sound of muffled voices called to them, as screams of commands and shrieks of terror echoed out from a nearby restaurant within line of sight.

heheThe two, bolting from their lackadaisical stride, rushed to the building's front, with Elijah being the one to fling open the door. What sat before them was a macabre aesthetic of fine dining, as waiters dressed in formal attire and archaic, wooden masks loomed over hysterical customers, civilians who trembled in their intimidation. For every customer — and, more strangely, differently dressed employees? — there were two suiters, standing at either side as ever-present threats.

heheStanding furthest away from the duo, just before the counter to the kitchen and directly ahead of them, stood the Maître d'. His mask had a thick, black sheen with curling horns protruding from either top corner. With a rounder frame and heavy arms, the gentleman clapped his hands together. "More customers! Might we show them to their seats, gentleman?"

heheAt his command, two of the waiters broke from their formation, charging the students with strong, barred hands. "Hope you two have empty stomachs!"

He was not so bold — at least, not as he held himself now — as to label himself as anything notable in that regard, especially within the company he now resided. Amongst them, he was sure he wasn't the most intriguing. And, thus, he could revel in the others' tales.

heheThough he might have been brazen enough to trespass upon places he shouldn't, this was not one such occasion. No, by the standards he was told to abide by — UA had an "image to be upheld" or something like that — he couldn't go waltzing into restaurants without paying for his place, especially not upon the whims he was normally pulled by.

heheEven still, he wouldn't be denied the natural caprice with which he lived his life. It had yet to steer him wrong.

heheFor the time being, though, he'd play by that preposterous narrative. As Claudio found it, this conversation was most interesting if he was perceived as a "coaked-up mongoose," even if he wasn't being entirely truthful; it sounded much more like an issue needing verbalization.

hehe"Hmmmm," hummed the cloud, resting his hands in his lap, "I guess treshpassing ish a bit odd to mosht people." His musings, airy in their lack of concern, breezed by without much thought. Instead, his posture remained loose, swaying just a tad as he maintained his balance. "But I mean, ish it necessa'ily wei'd fo' me to jusht be in placesh?"

heheEven if he hadn't done so in this instance, it wasn't out of Claudio's repertoire to do as he was thought to have done. It was for that reason he could so readily take on the appearance Shion saw him by, however incorrectly.

hehe"But that's beside the point." As he continued to speak, he'd lean further and further back, his arms stretching as he held onto his seat. "O' well, I guess that ish the point? Ash much the point ash 'being diffe'ent' ish, I guess?"

heheUnder the lens of the narrative he was going by, he supposed it was an odd inclination of him to have. Then again, in a world of far odder individuals, was harmlessly trespassing as bad a thing to do? Though he would have been more immediately bizarre to the opposite man, there were many more whose actions were some mixture of harmful and illegal — and surely, from that angle, he was less a demonstration of the matter at hand than many other theoretically existent people.

[attr="class","sixShpost"]heheAs his arm snapped back into place, its form returning to its original size, Claudio sang a hearty chuckle. “So tanky!" he'd beam, his voice a melodic cheer as he looked upon the golem. He hadn't even left a dent on the thing — not even a scratch! "Gosh, nothing! I really did try to knock you out with that one, promise!"

heheAn unstoppable being who, in its destructive tranquility, swayed little from the path it walked, refuting even the option to state its case. Though it may be peppered by his and others' attacks, the golem pressed forward regardless of hell or hindrance — what a nostalgic image that was! Unlike the memory, however, this beast was no unstoppable machine. Though its armor remained undamaged, steam seeped out from beneath the cracks, hissing as it rose through the air.

heheHowever tough this thing may be, there was something more at play.

hehe"Y'know, you almost remind me of–"

heheBut the cloud had little time to prattle on, or even concern himself with that thought, as the earth below him roared once more. Though the titan had ripped through the earth's crust, breaking the world beneath, it had not awoken in a rage or in a fervor — like an animal dormant from hibernation, it had emerged without hostility. But, as the earth howled again, soldiers of similar shape to the golem — if only smaller — emerged, bursting through the asphalt with violence in their charge.

heheClaudio couldn't be in two places at once. As far as he could tell, only he and one other person had taken measures to halt the giant in its march — with little avail, for as far as they could tell. Even still, they didn't have any promises of reinforcement, nor were they guaranteed actual heroes to come defeat the golem.

heheThey would need to stick it out with the objective of achieving victory by themselves.

hehe"A plan, a plan, a plan, hm..." The cloud hummed to himself, eyeing the smaller golems as they shot toward him. As they reached to snatch him out of the air, hoping to tear the cloud from the sky, their hands would only pass through the cloud's wispy form. If they listened, they might have heard a faint giggle.

heheAs they passed through his form, Claudio's body snapped back into how it'd been prior, with his stupid grin widening as he turned his gaze.

hehe"C'mon, you two!" As they flew through the air, the cloud's arms stretched out, snaking through the air as they attempted to grip the two by their ankles. "I'm a cloud — a cloud! You can't touch clouds, y'know!" At this level, at least, he could rely on his body's reaction times to take what was thrown at him. As such, Claudio could devote his thoughts to the mission at hand.

heheTo that end, he could more freely experiment.

heheFlipping backward again and again with the two in his grasp, the cloud attempted to use the force of his rotation to throw the two golems at their larger counterpart, aiming again for the spot he'd previously struck — the face.

Even in a world born of people who, for a lack of their own efforts, stood beyond the world's expectation — an undeniable reality — they still founded themselves in what already was. Such individuals, he supposed, lived by the world's framework; if they didn't know where "exceptionalism" began on their own, how could they register the opposite?

heheHe wondered if, by that same merit, it was harder to identify the remarkable.

What had she said, again? Regardless, Claudio placed a hand against his chest. What little had been shown of his scar now hid away from sight, though the rest of his musculature, minor scars and all, still remained prominently apparent.

heheWho would want to be so alien, after all? He couldn't find a reason to take pride in that kind of existence — if anything, Claudio thought it to be a miserably lonesome existence. Only thinking from himself would surely lose its luster if he lived like that.

[attr="class","sixShpost"]heheOh, the life of a cloud. Beneath the soothing sun and above the menial causalities — a place where the world was simple in its unknowing. The clouds danced through the wind's path, following their leading steps onward to places they'd never know, nor would they ever see. They would travel miles, over vast oceans and distant lands, towards a destination they never intended — not a tranquil journey, but a riotous migration of sincerely bellowing gales.

heheAmongst the nothing — those unconscious things — flowed the one between their and the below's kingdoms. A man who, though born of humanity, rested amongst these clouds as of the same form, a structureless shape free from the world's touch. Claudio blended into their mass as another series of particles, adrift in the breeze as any other cloud was in their wakeless life.

heheHumanity didn't touch him here. They may tread upon the domain, and they may even claim the skies as their own, but it was not their home. They did not return to the clouds for their evanescent embrace as he did. His eyes could close here, and when they did, he could be left as nothing at all. Even to the world, he vanished.

heheBut a came to him a howling, a shriek echoed up from the earth. The terrain screamed in agony, begging for the heavens to heed their strife — to look upon them and see how they crumbled and collapsed. And, from the dust of ruins, there rose something unlike either the world or the sky.

heheA monstrosity that came from even further below — a hellspawn whose only sound was the havoc left in their wake.

heheYet the clouds continued to pass. Unmarred by the land's destruction, they continued along their path without objection. The heavens, in their unified perfection, glossed past the calamity passing beneath their gaze. What more did they need to see than the sun above?

heheBut the human cloud couldn't tear his gaze from the hellion's wrath. He couldn't rip the glint from his eye.

heheFalling away from the heavens, the man looked upon the world's abominable painting. Structures hung loose from their foundations, and blood seeped from beneath the creature's steps. As the man hurdled down from the sky, the world of ants quickly became a world of rocks, and rapidly, that world of rocks became a world of people.

heheThe cloud met the pavement, its gaseous form dissipating at its point of impact and outwards towards the bordering buildings. Yet, as the clouds curved along the street's walls, their abundance collected just ahead of the monster, coalescing in the air just ahead of the golem's gaze. The whirling hiss of their circling gave rise to a new creature — the being descended from the heavens — as one of the hellion's combatants.

heheLike an island sat floating atop a cloud, Claudio's torso remained solid — human — while his lower body remained transformed, keeping him afloat.

hehe"That's no good, Mr. Earth!" Pulling back his fist, the Brazilian laughed. "That way's too valuable for you to step on — why don't we go play in your pit back there?"

heheThe man's fist soared forth from its coiled start, with his arm rapidly expanding in size as it pushed through the air. The internal structures pushed apart from one another, losing their density as they shifted away from their humanity, whilst their outer shell loosened into a rubbery texture — but all the same, their force aimed to strike the giant squarely in the face, only now with an appropriately expanded form.

[attr="class","sixShpost"]heheTo think something like "Babel" could exist. An event where, as though they appeared from thin air, villains materialized in a coordinated assault upon Tokyo. Was it even coordinated? It had to be — there couldn't be another explanation for the nature of all these attacks, especially in the uniformity of their timing.

heheLuck — or chance, as Claudio might call it in this circumstance — noted the possibility of such anarchy coming about naturally. It was an infinitesimally slim chance to be sure, but a chance nonetheless. To consider the destruction as anything but premeditated would be naive of him. The Brazilian wouldn't, couldn't reasonably figure the situation to be anything but a series of correlated incidents. There was, surely, method in this madness. To what extent, however, was yet unknown.

heheAs part of the disaster engulfing the city, UA's students were deployed as an additional aid to calm the wave of carnage. In this instance, Claudio found himself partnered with another of his peers — one "Elijah Hawthorne," or as the man chose to dub himself, "Trailblazer." What a fun name! Very on the nose, the Brazilian thought. Not that he took issue with a cliché; he'd named himself "Playful Cloud," after all. No, he was quite a fan of reliable tropes — sometimes, classic ideas worked wonders in a sea of complexity!

heheHe thought it the same for Babel. In a mess of interwoven threads of criminality, the Brazilian could only cringe at the conformity behind these scenes; regardless of the circumstances that bore this upheaval, and even beyond the complexity printed into its very form, the endless stream of crime ended in the same result.

heheAs the two remained on patrol, with both being tasked to keep an eye out and respond to calls of need, the cloud boy levitated off the ground along his companion, crossing his legs and following their pace. "Elijah-kuuuuuuuuun," he droned, having fun with the honorifics expected of his second language. As they continued along, Claudio would bob side to side, tilting himself as they did. "Elijah-kuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun," he'd further hum, "c'mon, you've gotta tell me about Canada! I've neve' been to the No'th Americash!"

heheAs he floated along, he'd move just slowly ahead of the younger man, floating backward whilst still maintaining the conversation. "Like, what'sh living there like? Oh! Do you speak F'ench? I hea'd some areash there speak F'ench. Is that t'ue?" As they went on, Claudio gradually continued to further tilt to the side, eventually having shifted entirely upside down, though he had raised himself for his gaze to still meet Elijah's.

heheAs he now floated upside down, though, his hat string would wrap around the bottom of his chin, dangling freely. Furthermore, Claudio crossed his arms over his chest, blocking the obvious scar he wore freely. "I gotta know why you'd go th'ough the t'ouble of coming to UA, y'know? I mean, why would anyone put up with stuff like this–" he'd twirl his finger around, though it ultimately pointed down due to his position– "ove' staying home?"

And Claudio had thought himself improved in the realm of reading people; his first remark seemed to have found its mark, but the follow-up had entirely missed! Though, from a brighter perspective, he'd managed to nail one of two remarks — to deny himself credit for his initial success was to fail his instincts! Indeed, he'd managed that much, and that was sufficient for a first meeting. Nay, it more than sufficed; it was certainly a step in the right direction.

heheIt was no fun to understand another right from the start, after all. No, as the Brazilian had found it amongst others, the most fascinating of stories — and people, by extension — were those who baffled the mind upon a first glance. The most entertaining to him were those who made his mind dance along, making him hang from their every word in the hopes of finding meaning to their actions. Did they hold themselves with vibrant energy, such as himself? Did they greet others, even strangers, with the same fervor of passion as they did their closest friends? Did they display their love for the world for all to see, regardless of judgment?

heheAll such things were what elated the young man. Though, even beyond just the observation of all these things, Claudio found joy in the laughter he seemed to create wherever he took to — namely, the person that sat opposite to him at this low table. Their laugh was sweeter than he'd first imagined it, something more akin to a sugary delight than the smooth texture of a tea (as he'd first imagined), but all the greater in its sincerity. This, he thought, was well worth the awkwardness of his scheme.

hehePerhaps it was that willingness to act in such an uncouth manner that made the playful cloud such an oddity amongst others. Could he imagine most others doing as he did, and living as he had? If others experienced the life he had, would they, too, become this same person who so readily laughed? Would they hold themselves with the same air of amusement, regardless of the circumstances in which they found themselves?

heheWas it just his luck, then, that he was this person?

heheNo, he didn't believe so. To leave himself and his personhood to the aspects of luck was something he couldn't rationalize. Claudio was sure many had lived a life similar to his own, yet had chosen to walk down tremendously different paths; it was him and his own attitude that, in the context of his experiences, made him the way he was. It was a choice to be this source of comic relief — it was his choice.

heheAnd to that, as he fumbled his posture — now lying sideways along the floor — he'd simply laugh to his own contentment. "Beauty," he'd begin, raising an open-palmed hand to the ceiling, arcing his arm like a rainbow, "ish eve'ything, and eve'ything is beautiful; even the cold is wonde'ful if ya get a good spot next to the fi'e."

heheRighting himself back into a seat, with his legs still crossed, the Brazilian placed a hand on either of his shoulders. "Imagine it with me: a cold, winte'y night — you've jusht come home from a ha'd day at work, let's say — and you ahive to you' family. You sluggishly peel off you' shoesh, place you' jacket on the hook near the door, and step into the view of you' parentsh. They can't know how exhaushted you are, since they don't feel eve'ything you feel, but they see you with those ti'ed eyesh; so, they decide to wa'm up the fi'eplace and offe' you a spot next to 'em." Claudio moved his hands to the table, gripping the edge and leaning himself forward over the rich wood. As he did so, his eyes seemed to flash with the few beams that made their way through the sakura tree. "Soundsh to me like a g'eat day for the cold, don'tcha think?"

heheClaudio leaned away from the table, resting his arms behind him. "It's a lot the same fo' me, y'see." He'd lift a hand, pointing only his index finger up and closing his eyes. As he continued to speak, he'd twirl his finger in a circle. "I alwaysh wanna laugh, but that doeshn't mean I'm stuck. Or, well, I pe'sonally wouldn't say I am, anyhow. To me, it jusht means I'm staying true to myself and what I wanna be."

heheAs he opened his eyes again, he rested his arm back against the mat. "If it's not w'ong for me to alwaysh have my head in the cloudsh, do ya think it's w'ong for you to have yours in the cold?"

[attr="class","sixShpost"]heheBy the standards of the affluent, Claudio didn't find himself quite as perplexed as his classmate did. Though his family was of minor stature — his mother wasn't the best in the world by any regard, but she was still prolific enough to be important in her limited sphere — the Brazilian had become accustomed to doing things by himself, for himself. By comparison to Olivia, he'd readily enjoyed his seat in economy class amongst the people, cracking wise and rubbing shoulders with his neighbors.

heheThen again, Claudio wasn't one to worry himself with regard to wealth or the appearance thereof. With a background in modest living, he didn't find it necessary to ask for much more than he was provided; quite frankly, there wasn't much in the way of materialism or extravagance that appealed to him, nor was there any incentive to shift his life towards those aspects. He found himself quite content with the prospect of doing things by his own admission.

heheThough, as he was loading his own baggage into the trunk of the vehicle, he found his classmate struggling to lift her own. He first tried to ignore their struggle — she'd get it, he was sure — but as he finished loading his own luggage, it became clearer and clearer that she wasn't going to get it up on her own. Would it be wrong if he laughed? He felt it would be wrong if he did... But he couldn't help a quiet chuckle, regardless of how he restrained himself.

heheThough, in his mind, he'd come up with something even more humorous, something that would surely put the struggle out of her mind.

heheClaudio, purposefully rolling up his sleeves in an exaggerated fashion, approached the suitcase with an intent focus on the object. As he squatted down onto his knees, placing his hands on the underside of the suitcase, the Brazilian strained himself trying to lift it up, grunting as he shakily raised it. "So heavy!" He'd choke out, continuing to play up the struggle. "Did you pack a whole houze in thish thing?!" As he further played up the act — with even the inclusion of strained huffs — he resisted the urge to laugh at his own gag. He wasn't quite sure what UA entailed, let alone if his classmates would be of the same demeanor as he was, but he didn't want to skip out on a laugh; even if his peers lacked in the ease with which he held himself, he'd hope to introduce that air of brevity.

heheEventually, Claudio managed to place the suitcase in the back, wiping his brow as though he'd been sweating. "No wonde' you had trouble lifting it; I'm surprised I could even get it off the ground!"

heheAs he shut the trunk door, hushing a giggle from himself, and rounded the car to his seat — with him choosing a spot beside his new companion — he'd cup his hand to better aid their oh-so-very-secret conversation. He hadn't cared to take anything more with him beyond the items commonly held in his pockets; namely, his phone and wallet. Though, now that his backpack had been put away, his hat remained dangling from his neck between his shoulder blades.

hehe"Mhm!" He'd hum, "but jusht a few timesh; my Ma's side's from here, so I'd come every now-and-again for thingsh like holidaysh." Though, in his experience, he hadn't had much opportunity to simply explore as he saw fit. He loved his family — he wouldn't ever say otherwise — but they had predominantly directed such outings. He was still a stranger in this land, after all; it wasn't as though he knew the streets on his own, nor did he have the sense of direction to find his way back then.

heheBut now as, an adult? He hoped to enjoy the urban sprawl of Tokyo as he saw fit — he was more than capable of that!

heheAs the sedan took off from the airport, with both men sat in the front, Claudio continued to speak in quiet tones. "But I wanna get out there and see it! Y'know, explore it!" Frankly, he'd hoped to relish the struggle of finding his way in the first place straight from the airport; it would have been such a great story to tell later down the line. "It's my firsht time being free here — I don't wanna spend all my time at some stuffy school, y'know?"

[attr="class","sixShpost"]heheMaybe, for some, it was right to see Claudio as something bizarre, as an irregularity in this world seemingly born from nothing at all; such was the nature of his being, as was the nature of where he came from. Not in the literal place itself — Barra da Tijuca was a place just like any other, defined in its existence in reality — but in the place where "Claudio," as a person, came to be. Through the cracks of truth, the playful cloud appeared to seep in from the opposite realm, coagulating into the untethered being sitting across from Shion.

heheShion was, by contrast, something unmistakably of this world, yet was still familiar with peering into its cracks and seeing the absurd that lay beyond it. Perhaps it was thus that their air of joviality — a presence Claudio didn't know existed — dropped when in the presence of that unmistakably foreign identity. What need was there for it, when the intruder didn't expect from them what reality did?

heheWhether or not that made Claudio "unlike anyone else," however, he didn't mind, nor was he fixated upon finding the distinction. As he was, it didn't matter if he was considered aligned with his peers or to be an exception to their rule; his path wouldn't change regardless of his similarity or lack thereof. Maybe that, in itself, was the answer to this notion. But, of course, he couldn't care less whether it was or whether it was not.

hehe"Hmm," he'd hum, "did I spook the 'usual self' outta ya?" Just as he was to the person in front of him, Shion was a mystery yet unexplored to the Brazilian; or, as he would prefer to see them, a story he had yet to understand but still the time to see its climax. To that end, with his thumb and forefinger, he scratched at his chin and the imaginary facial hair he possessed. "Or maybe, hm... Oh, let me guess! You're the 'comic relief' of your friends, right? The one who has to keep the spirits high for everyone?"

heheIf so were the case, Claudio could imagine himself to be someone who could shoulder that burden in this place. Not that he ever intended to be anything but that lively energy, anyway.

heheFollowing Shion's gaze out into the pond and the looming tree, the Brazilian rested his elbow against the low table. Was that rude? He couldn't recall. "It's that time of spring, ain't it? That 'time of new beginnings' and all that?" He rested his cheek in his hand. "Bit funny when you think about it, though; I mean, aren't there 'new beginnings' happening all the time, throughout the year?"

What else could explain the breathtakingly short gap between his seating and the arrival of another to whom he could make the acquaintance of? Claudio could've sworn he'd sat down not more than a minute ago, and there already appeared another!

heheAnd, more importantly than their arrival alone, there came the aspect of their intriguing visage. More so than just a trap designed to avoid loneliness, and even beyond a benign compulsion to be hospitable to his fellow man, the Brazilian wanted to talk with someone interesting. What better setting was there to get to know someone — to better understand this new world he was in — than to sit no more than a few feet away from them?

heheHe thought it to be clever.

heheClever or not though, the Brazilian's focus slowly shifted from the opposite person to the corner of the room. Then again, slowly, his gaze drifted again, this time to the leftmost corner, with only the sounds of the outside stream marking the passage of time. Until, finally, Claudio's vision centered itself back upon Shion. He seemed to take a pause for a moment, only for realization to set in a moment later.

hehe"Oh!" He'd start, laughing aloud. "You're waiting for me to say something!"

heheClaudio's mannerisms melted away from their previously rigid posture, with the Brazilian crossing his legs — something he didn't recall as disrespectful to the Japanese — and resting his elbow against his black and pink joggers, with his cheek the set atop his fist. Though his body was scarred in a multitude of places, the most obvious remained the wound beneath his eye and the large scar on his chest, the one that just barely peaked out from his choice of tank top.

hehe"Pleaze, come in, come in!" He'd melodically drum a knuckle at the other end of the table, motioning for the entrant to take the opposite seat. As his body moved forward, his hair followed after him, seeming to be doing so independently of the Brazilian's efforts. "You have to tell me what you thought on that one; neve' tried to su'prise a strange' like thish befo'e, but the look on you' face was worth it!"

heheClaudio slapped a hand on his knee as he laughed, looking away from Shion as he continued to do so. It wasn't his policy to always be comical, per se, but he did find a good laugh to be a preferred mood than most other alternatives. At the very least, it was a welcoming option, one much more inviting than a cold veil of stoicism.

He didn't think of himself as "stupid," necessarily, but he was painfully aware of his lacking ability when it came to such focuses. He couldn't refer to himself as well-spoken, bookish — though he adored written fiction — or academically minded, lest he chose to say something he didn't believe in.

heheUA was different in that regard. Though it was arguably as prestigious as the top schools across the globe, it placed an emphasis on the practical applications of one's innate abilities — their Quirks. One could almost see it as a place perfectly designed to nurture one's inherent gifts that separate them from the rest of the population, ones that, unlike the chemistry of the brain, were readily apparent for everyone to see. And, even more so than mental faculties, they could directly affect the immediate as an extension of their physical presence.

heheAnd, at the very least, Claudio could make the cut for UA; he couldn't even hope to get wait-listed at a place like Oxford or Cambridge, even if he so desired to.

heheFollowing his arrival came the second-place finisher — he made his fun, thinking of it as a game — who seemed to appear just as the explanation finished. Could they simply be punctual? Perhaps so, but Claudio didn't find that answer to be sufficiently amusing; he'd much rather believe they simply had an uncanny sense of timing — what's more, perhaps that was her quirk! Surely, the ability to arrive at just the right moment would be a wonderful ability!

heheHe entertained himself with such notions as he shifted his gaze to them, his vision shaded by a pair of rimless sunglasses with a reddish pink tint to their lenses; his attire, on that note, was that of someone clearly more casual than his peer. He wore a pair of black Bermuda shorts and a pink jacket with the zipper left halfway up his torso, revealing the upper half of his chest (with a large scar just peeking out). Furthermore, the young man carried a duffel bag in either hand, with each adorned by several pins and stickers, and a backpack with a few charms and chains.

heheThe only other thing of note was the straw hat situated atop his backpack, which remained in place by the string wrapped around Claudio's neck. It didn't look the most comfortable.

heheAs Claudio's head turned to examine his classmate, so too did the hair atop his head, following his movements moments thereafter. It seemed to flow up from his scalp — was it even solid? — towards the sky, yet it remained anchored to his scalp. It never appeared to sit still, instead acting as a continuous oddity of the Brazilian's physiology.

hehe"O'!" Went Claudio, "you can already speak Japaneze?" He'd imagined prior the struggles of those who were yet equipped with the Japanese language, a gap in knowledge he couldn't blame anyone for. Even to him, it seemed a ludicrously complex and needlessly redundant struggle of a language — especially its written forms — and to manage it as a foreigner must have made it all the more difficult.

hehe"Hm... Hey," he'd glance at Olivia, "have you eve' been in Tokyo before? O' even jusht anywhere in Japan before?" Claudio wasn't keen to get to UA just yet. Truth be told, he was more curious of his classmate than the school grounds, and he wanted an opportunity to get to know them before they went off in their own directions. He figured it was best to make a friend as soon as possible — what's more, with someone in the same boat as himself, he didn't prefer to leave them in the same position as he was in.

"Home" wasn't just the floor, the roof, the walls, nor was it the stairs; it wasn't even limited to a house — the thief who claimed the title of "home" to most — itself, but rather, something more. "Home" was a community, a network of people, living their lives both independently of and in conjunction with one another; home was everything one had ever known.

heheTo give all that up was a task the Brazilian couldn't imagine as anything but an act of absurdity.
To forfeit everything he'd ever held claim over, and to forego everything that had ever shaped him, was the plight of a man lost to madness!

hehePerhaps, then, he was mad. To travel all this way on a basis such as his wasn't the thoughts of reason or normality. It was a wild gamble, a choice very well capable of altering everything he'd ever known or believed in. He would meet so many people of differing candor, and so many, he believed, would never equally meet him or his gaze. Many would look upon him as an oddity, an absurdity, as something that "didn't belong" — but what fun was any gambit without the risk to balance?

heheNo, if he was to live the life of a dream, he would pursue it — all absurdity withstanding.

heheHis first week was an odd one, to say the least. Claudio's arrival on a week-long holiday was strange enough as is, but Claudio's pursuits of curiosity only served to exacerbate it. Geared with the knowledge of the country's language — both its spoken tongue and its written systems — he took to making a place of his new residence, a familiar sight that wouldn't soon dupe him. He didn't imagine it would ever become a "home." No, Tokyo was no Barra da Tijuca, and it likely never could be. Then again, what other place could?

heheWhat it lacked in familiarity was intrigue; only a few times before had the Brazilian ever visited the country, and only then, it had been with the priority of family. Suffice it to say, he wasn't familiar with Japan's beating heart: Tokyo.

heheSo, under the circumstances he was given, Claudio chose to make the best of it. As he recalled the day, it was the middle of Golden Week, the "Midori no Hi." Supposedly, this greenery day was meant to revel in the facets of nature, both flora and fauna alike, and use them to justify another day away from work. Though, as he found from a few minutes of research, it was also a day to enjoy the country's tea houses — something yet unexplored to the foreigner, and thus the perfect way to his spend his afternoon.

heheTaking off his sandals and stepping forward towards the receptionist, the Brazilian rested his hands along the wooden counter.

As he'd heard it, this place had individual rooms — booths of sorts — where one's party could dine in comfortable peace away from other customers, as though each booth was a world where only those that dined mattered. Even more intriguingly, each booth sat along the picturesque view of a flowing pond filled with koi, one overlooked by a sakura tree and the many pink petals that pittered into the waters.
