Teruko leaned against the front counter, propping herself up on her elbows as she drank-in the decor of the place. It gave gothic but clean impressions–which, though unusual for a salon, really worked for the place. It also matched her neighbor’s vibe, if his usual attire was anything to go-off of. Her attention thinned as she tried in earnest to recall her neighbor’s usual attire– and what was his name, anyways? Something foreign. With “L’s” in it.
The neighbor in-question made his appearance while Teruko wandered with her thoughts, seeming rather frazzled by the woman’s appearance. Teruko straightened her posture, wondering if she’d dropped-in on a day that the salon was closed. Her eyes wandered uncertainly to the door– well, the door had been unlocked– before returning to her neighbor.
“O-oh, thank you!” Teruko said with a sheepish tone and a reluctant smile, “I was worried that I’d barged-in while you were closed–”
He cut right to the quick, before Teruko even had a chance to explain what brought her here. Wow, her hair must have been really bad for him to zero-in on it like that. But, then again, it was his trade– he had an eye for hair, the same way that Teruko had an eye for baked goods.
A laugh burst from her before she could contain it. She liked this boy– he was to the point.
“Is it that bad?” she teased, running a hand through the overgrown sides of her head.
Quick to dispel any impression of offense, Teruko gave a placating, “I kid, I kid– listen– I’ve been seeing the same stylist for a couple of years, now, and she moved salons and straight-up ghosted me. Hence… this.”
Sure, Teruko could shave the sides of the ‘hawk herself, but it was such a hassle without being able to see the back of your own head. It also did not remedy the dye touch-up.
“Can’t say I blame her entirely, though… getting this mess of hair from black to platinum is… a lot,” Teruko cleared her throat. Not that she needed to explain this to him, he probably knew better than anyone, “But, if you’re up to the task, I’d love to make an appointment–”
Surely, a stylist with such an extensive portfolio couldn’t have that much free time, right? She fully expected to get shuffled out a few weeks, perhaps even a few months, before she could be seen for the dye job.

Doling-out vigilante justice in your own neighborhood was always a gamble– for if your neighbors knew your face, they could be either your strongest allies or your worst enemies. People talked. And if they saw the brassy bakery owner giving someone a beat-down? That was some juicy gossip ripe for the picking. So, Teruko would hop on her motorcycle and take the fifteen-minute ride up the road to Shinjuku before she got to work. There was plenty of trouble there, and she could have her fun while maintaining some anonymity.
She wore her riding boots and a helmet, her arms and shoulders thick with scales beneath the leather jacket and tank-top. Her tail was held parallel to the street as she zipped along it, lit by the tail-lights of her cruiser. If there was no trouble, then this would just be a joyride around town. And, already transformed, she looked like just another mutant, enjoying a night on the road.
She rolled to a stoplight, placing a foot down to steady herself. The high-rise buildings pressed claustrophobically against the street, painting it in an unnatural white iridescent in the dead of night. Most people had gone home, with only a few stragglers scurrying past– likely heading for a warm meal or bed. The light turned green, and she kicked-off of the pavement, gunning the engine. Her cruiser roared, carrying her down the desolate streets once again. On the left, crouching in the darkened entry of a mom-and-pop electronic store, were a pair of men pressed against the door, bodies angled away from the streets.
A break-in?
One cast Teruko a watchful glance as she rode past, but when she banked left they assumed that she had carried onward, and they resumed their work.
Teruko parked her bike a good half-block away, turning it off and pocketing her keys. She strode with quick, quiet steps in the direction of the store, peering around the corner to watch the pair fumble.
“-how hard is it to bust a lock? What, were ya born yesterday?” one man hissed at his companion.
“It’s pretty f**kin’ difficult with your noxious f**kin’ breath burnin’ my nose-hairs, a**hole– back the f**k up!”
Teruko rounded the corner, her thumbs tucked into her pockets as a show of casualness.
“Psst!” the thief hissed at his companion.
The two looked owlishly at the vigilante.
“Evening!” Teruko said brightly, her tail flicking behind her, “You boys having trouble with your lock?”
“Keep walking, b***h! This doesn’t concern you.”
The one that had spoken moved away from the door, while the other continued his work.
“Man-ners,” Teruko sighed, shaking her head, “If you’re breaking-in to a small business, then I think it does concern me~ At least go for a corporation! They can stand to lose a few thousand dollars~”
“F**k off!”
“I’ll call the cops,” she crooned from behind her helmet, “So what’ll it be?”
Usually, people scattered as soon as they were caught– but these two? They were persistent, she’d give them that! Something was afoot, but what… Teruko couldn’t be sure. So, she egged them on, hoping one of them would slip.

She’d been seeing the same stylist for years and the b***h f***ing ghosted her. Changes salons and suddenly the lady couldn’t be a**ed to return texts or phone calls. And with how well Teruko paid her? How amicable they were? And it wasn’t like she could go to just anyone. They had taken years to get her hair this light–and in the wrong hands, those chemicals could fry your hair. Fry it! Teruko needed the help of a professional. And beyond which… the sides of her head were getting too shaggy. She needed a shave, and fast.
So, in the late hours of the afternoon– after she’d slept-off her early morning of baking cakes, but before she’d set-out to do vigilante work– Teruko had retrieved her smartphone from the bedside table, and scoured the internet for local stylists with rave reviews for their work. Preferably someone who was no stranger to alternative stylings, so that there wasn’t some lecture that came with the cut and color free of charge.
Her search turned-up fortuitous results. The gentleman downstairs, who ran the salon space next-door to her restaurant, had some pretty rave reviews. Queer friendly, quirk friendly, plenty of experience with dye and alternative hairstyles. She’d seen him numerous times, and their relationship was fairly amicable, but… strictly business. He was just a kid, and a fairly beautiful one at that. And since Teruko was quite loyal to her stylist, they’d never really had a reason to exchange anything more than polite small-talk.
Teruko flung herself from her bed, stalking towards her closet. She might as well venture downstairs, and see if he could fit her in for an appointment.
… twenty minutes later, Teruko was descending the stairs of the apartment, clad in a loose-fitting mens’ tank top, unzipped hoodie, athletic shorts, and slides. Her hair had been wrangled into a messy bun atop her head, showing-off the grown-out shaved sides of her mohawk. It was just a quick jaunt downstairs. No need to be done-up. She stepped-out onto the sidewalk with a push of the door, then bore an immediate left, towards the salon.
A bell above the door heralded her entrance– and the woman stood for a moment in the entry, her brown eyes scanning the space. It seemed… relatively unoccupied. Perhaps she should have called instead…?
"Pardon me?" the woman called reluctantly, lingering near the front desk, "Is anyone in?"

Teruko has always been a larger-than-life woman. Not only does she stand head-and-shoulders over most people, but she brims with warmth and bravado. She’s the type of person who will make friends with just about anyone, because she’s so easy to get along with. She laughs too loud, hugs too roughly, and may say inappropriate things… but it adds to her charm. She’s unapologetically “herself”, which just invites everyone else to be their authentic selves, too. In the past, Teruko was deeply betrayed by people she’d been loyal to, so she tends to be wary of others– particularly those who hold power over her or the community. This is also why she tends to be fiercely protective of her inner circle, and why she frequently takes charge. Her dedication to “her people”, which extends to her community at-large and the quirked population, is what compels Teruko to take such a staunch support for community service. Secretly, it’s also what compelled her towards vigilantism. She will do anything to protect the peace of her home and her neighbors. You can’t leave it to the government’s lap-dogs (i.e. heroes) to take care of the problem– their goodwill only goes as far as their funding. A person of the community– a person like Teruko– will act in the best interest of the neighborhood where they live, not the politicians. » SKIN COLOR: Medium tan with patches of vitiligo.
» FACE CLAIM NAME: Jasper (humanized) / Godzilla
» FACE CLAIM SERIES: Steven Universe / Godzilla franchise Teruko is an impressive woman to behold, looming head-and-shoulders over most. She’s broad in the shoulder and hip, well-muscled, buxom. Her hair hangs in thick waves past her hips when allowed down, though it is often wrangled into a braid or a bun when she’s at work. When braided, one will notice that her head is actually shaved on the sides and only long in the center, sporting a classic "mohawk" style. Her usual mode of dress screams “biker babe” or “elder punk”– ripped jeans, graphic tees shorn of their sleeves, leather jackets and combat boots. Piercings galore, and a fair amount of jewelry. From afar, she looks tough– which is enough to put those who don’t know her on-edge. If she’s close to transforming, part of her appearance will preemptively shift– her eyes will go from their usual dark brown to a shocking amber– her grin will become sharper and more wolfish, and iridescent spines will start to poke through her skin. If partially transformed, she’ll either need to remove her clothes or risk ripping through them– but if fully transformed, her alternate form encases her (similar to titan transformation in Attack on Titan), thus preserving her outfits. [attr="class","body"] [attr="class","header2"]HISTORY Teruko was born on a small Okinawan island south of the Japanese mainland. She was the only daughter born to the Mr. and Mrs. Serizawa, owners of a bed-and-breakfast in the only town on the island. Their island thrived off of tourism from the mainland, and only boasted a few hundred full-time residents. It was incredibly close-knit, almost familial. While the rest of the world was in disarray over the emerging “quirk problem”, the people on Teruko’s island gave no credence to such hysteria. Even when Teruko, only a toddler at the time, transformed into a four-foot-tall fledgling kaiju, her parents– and neighbors– handled the development like any other childhood growing-pain. Thus Teruko grew up cheerful and unbothered– she went to school during the day, played with her friends in the afternoon, and helped her family with the bed-and-breakfast as needed. But the world beyond held its allure– the glimmering cityscapes in the movies that she and her friends watched were tantalizing and foreign, and Teruko always dreamed of visiting there with her friends. And though her parents were well-to-do enough to support their current lifestyle, they really couldn’t afford to travel. When Teruko reached adolescence– about eleven or twelve years old– an executive from the film industry saw the transformed youth playing in the surf. At the time, her kaiju form was about ten feet tall, and was seen diving into the surf and balancing her friends atop the crown of her head, letting them leap into the water below. Seeing potential in her quirk, the man approached– but the children bolted, unnerved by the overly-forward guest. The next day, the producer showed-up at the Serizawa’s inn, pleading with Teruko’s parents to let her join him, gushing about how he could “make her famous”. Initially, the family was reluctant– but after days of debate, they agreed. It was thus that Teruko’s tenure as the titular monster “Kamirex” began. Japan’s fixation on kaiju-related film franchises found her fast success. Sometimes she was the hero– others, the villain– but regardless, Teruko enjoyed the attention. She loved to see all the exciting places her fame took her– even to the United States!– and she loved all of the people that she got to meet. It was during this time that Teruko met her best friend and frequent co-star, Nilmimi Chou, as well as many other quirkers just like them. They would spend lots of time together– and Nilmimi would even sometimes visit Teruko’s island between productions. (Rumor has it that they even dated, for a spell, during their teenage years, but this remains unconfirmed.) Teruko lived a wild life, during that time, heavy into the party-scene and entertaining a revolving door of lovers. Even if she loved her family deeply, and held a commitment to the franchise, she was still a teen (and eventually a twenty-something) with lots of disposable income and very little supervision. In her mid-twenties, things began to fall apart. Another costar– a crocodilian kaiju who had been Teruko’s mentor– died. And, rather than paying him his respects, they acted as if he was simply an asset lost rather than a friend or colleague. And, given the prevalence of the Quirk Rights activism of the time, Teruko found herself hastily radicalized. She and the other actors and actresses were more than just their quirks– more than just monsters– they were people with rights, just as much as their non-quirked costars. If their franchise couldn’t recognize that, Teruko didn’t want to be a part of it anymore. Ultimately, she was let go– she fumbled for a few years before finding a love of baking. She began the first “Kaiju Cakery”, a 1950’s American diner-styled bakery that specialized in themed desserts, and slipped quietly off of the radar. She was replaced by a CGI deep-fake, and most of the world forgot about her. And though she had stepped out of the limelight, she never truly stopped her activist work– but given her methods, she often flirted with the line between “activism” and “vigilantism”. The need for subtlety led to the development of her “partial transformations”... but she still garnered the attention of local law enforcement. But no one could really prove that it was her, as she had never reported the existence of her partial transformations to the government. When she had garnered too much attention, she relocated– under the guise of “her business growing too big for the current location”, and decided to start anew. She now sits in a low-slung, five-story building in the heart of Tokyo. The bottom floor houses her restaurant, a vacant salon space, and a gym, while the upper stories are apartment spaces. She’s been there ever since. The form stands about 25 feet tall, and 25 feet long. She's covered in slate-grey scales, and her back and limbs are covered in pronounced spines. When incensed, Teruko can lob shockwaves (either with the smack of her tail or the swing of her fist). The effect of such a strike can blow holes in buildings, throw opponents off of their feet and (at a close range) rupture eardrums or blood vessels. Years of practice has enabled Teruko to partially transform, too-- meaning that she can transform just her limbs, or her tail, so that she can access her quirk without requiring her to become a full-blown behemoth. As such, she's more insconspicuous. QUIRK DRAWBACKS: First and foremost, her form is large. It's built to be durable and strong, but not fast. As such, Teruko usually lumbers along while transformed, often relying on her ability to withstand attacks rather than dodging them. While she can build speed over time, she's freight-train fast. It takes forever for her to build speed, and she cannot change direction easily/at all once she's moving. Given the unwieldiness of her form-- with her full transformation being 25 feet tall and 25 feet long, and her partial transformation being up 10 feet tall and equally as long-- Teruko is always bumping into and breaking things. This makes her quirk unsuitable for covert movement. Additionally, when she's charging-up a shockwave punch (or simply experiencing a spike in emotion) she bioluminesces. This only serves to make her less sneaky. On the topic of her shockwave attacks-- her only control is the direction she throws the blow. Tail strikes radiate in a fan shape, while punches radiate as a cone. Anyone or anything in her blast radius can fall subject to the strike-- even allies-- so punches are not something that she throws lightly. Given her reliance on her natural armor and shockwave punches, she's nothing compared to trained combatants. Lastly, given the reptilian nature of her quirk, Teruko does not fair well in cold temperatures. While she can bundle-up untransformed, there's nothing protecting her alternate mode from the elements. Cooling her down will slow her down and make her sluggish, and eventually put her to sleep.
