Course correction would have been the intelligent decision upon noticing one’s prey was no longer where they had once been. Alas, six heads sometimes weren’t better than one. Especially when it involved thinking. One wanted to pull out of the spiral. Another wanted to stay put. Others still formed their own plans.
With no concrete decision between its heads, Goose careened into the truck of a nearby tree. Two heads were entangled and engulfed in the darkness of a hollow in the trunk. “HONK. HONK,” came the muffled cries. “HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK,” the other four cackled until one spotted the quarry edging away.
“HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK.”
The hydra was unified in purpose once more. A relentless pursuit of snacking attacking. It just had to get free first. It began to flap and flail with renewed vigor.

“HONK,” Goose retorted. Whatever that meant. The sound might have been open to interpretation, but its actions were not. Two of the heads pushed Goose up onto the wet sand so that its webbed feet were firmly beneath it. Or as firmly as anything could be on wet sand. Which served as an excellent surface to amplify the sound that followed after Ryota. It wasn’t a chorus of HONK this time. No, it was something more menacing.
The dreaded pitter-patters.
Flippers slapped against shore to the beat of Goose’s internal war drum as it charged into battle after Ryota. Wings and necks spread wide, making the hydra look even larger than normal. It was an intimidation tactic. Albeit not a particularly effective one since its prey was, well, a giant crab. Emphasis on giant. Not that such trivial things stopped Goose. It dove back into battle, its many heads snapping at whatever it could reach on the seven legged monster and Goose wouldn’t stop until it had more heads than the beast had legs.

Goose bobbed and weaved its way through the spurts of acidic blood erupting from the slug in the wake of the human’s sword. “HONK. HONK. HONK.” Three cries of uninterpretable approval. Though it would never admit it. Even if it could. Which it couldn’t. “HONK. HONK. HONK.” The last three were complaints. Goose wanted another piece of the slug too and Hiro wasn’t leaving much as the blob began to deflate from a loss of liquid.
Despite the painful blisters in its bills, Goose swooped down on Hiro, landing on his head. It used him as a perch to maintain proximity and balance as necks stretched out to take another bite or two of the slug. At least it was trying. The slug was beginning its death throes, thrashing about in a panicked frenzy trying to dislodge the bird and its two-legged nest.

Target acquired.
The feathered missile locked onto the former ocean dweller where it stood on uneven legs and lorded above felled prey of its own. That the beast had already conquered one of the two-legs that Goose often hunted and fought with for sport did nothing to deter the waterfowl. It streaked across the sky at a downward angle, naught but a blur of white. At least to any with slow eyes or a head injury as it was not all that fast. The intent of speed and force was there, however.
Goose collided with the shelled brute in glorious impact.
thunk
It bounced off reinforced hide to land in the sand next to Ryota. The head closest to the Hero turned to look at him squarely in the face and said, “HONK.” Clearly it was a 'you didn’t see that' honk, but only its fellow nester Megumi would understand that. Another head, one featuring a crumpled bill from the crash, also cried out, “HONK.” This one was obviously different. An expression of pain from taking the brunt of the hit with little to show for its efforts. As if rallying support for its wounded brethren, the other four heads joined in, voices filled with nothing other than rage.
“HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK.”

Goose was not privy to the inner workings of a mortal’s mind. Even if such info was audibly relayed, it was rather unfortunately the definition of bird-brained. Only one had been able to bridge the communication gap with Goose, and it was most certainly not the sword-slinger below.
What Goose did know was that the new target was larger than the previous one. Which oft meant a bigger threat and even if that were not the case here, it certainly meant a bigger meal in the most literal of ways. As such, Hiro was ignored for the time being.
In spite of their dysfunctional dynamic, the previously warring pair had created opportunities for one another. Goose, in blinding at least a few of the slug’s eyes, had made it so that the creature did not see Hiro upon it in time to prevent blade biting into bulbous body. Hiro, in acting the slug in a more direct manner, fully distracted its attention away from Goose.
Blood gushed out of open wounds, but that wasn’t all. The same slime it left in its wake coursed through its veins—and now out of them too.
Acidic fluid sprayed out toward Hiro. Above, Goose dove, wholly unaware of the volatile nature of its opponent’s body. Yet another downside of being bird-brained as previously mentioned. It made contact, bills gorging themselves on an eye or two before the sting of astringent chemicals coated tongue and teeth. Pained roars came from both monstrosities. Odd gurgles from the slug and the wholly expected, “HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK,” from Goose.

Rule 1. Never turn away from a goose.
Was it a fallacy or fact? Even if the latter held true, did laws governing encounters with the mundane operate the same in the face of an abomination? Elijah was but one of many destined to discover the answer in a very hand(s) on manner. While its prey was determined not to turn, Goose was beholden to no such decree.
It began to rotate mid-swoop until it was a spiral of gnashing [MAWS] aimed directly at its nemesis by nationality. Sea monsters from the deep had nothing on this fiendish fowl with the vicious intent behind the dive bomb. Not to mention the resulting attempts at biting should collision or contact of any kind occur.

The second slain head went limp with a squelch in the wake of the knife’s removal. Two of the four that remained immediately began bickering over which would indulge itself whilst the other pair cried out again. “HONK. HONK.” There was a distress to the sound, but its source was not the woman barreling down at it, but irritation from the sirens growing closer and inundating its senses.
Retsu made full contact with the distracted beast. Goose was sent tail feathers over teakettle into an abandoned stall. One that promptly collapsed and pinned Goose beneath the broken boards as Retsu dashed on, quite literally adding insult to injury. A chorus of angry honks followed after her. One didn’t need to speak Honkanese to know that it was a vow of vengeance and a declaration making them sworn enemies henceforth.
Or at least as soon as Goose got free.

As monsters churned the seas below, another fiend crested across the skies above. Water dripped from war weary wings. Battle had been waged on the shores throughout the day by several. Goose had partaken only a single time, though that was about to change as it hunted for briny prey—and something it could consume to renew its vigor once more.
Goose swept over the remains of several clashes ripe for feasting upon already slain foes, but there was no thrill in the hunts of others. It neglected the carrion in favor of screams farther up the beach. Its own voice rose to join the cries from its shared chest to then be trumpeted out from six individual bills.
“HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK.”
Stealth had never been Goose’s style.

Goose obviously had no sense of honor. It also didn’t know what laundry detergent was. That didn’t stop it from making its own counter-argument to its target’s desperate last bid for peace.
“HONK. HONK. HO-”
The feathered fiend was stopped short of its full eloquence by a massive wave rising up from the shoreline and crashing into it. Garbled, but clearly angry, honks could be heard from the receding water. A sopping and bedraggled Goose was left in the sea’s wake as it receded. Except Goose wasn’t the only monstrosity on the sand now.
A gigantic mutated sea slug that had been the source of the wave had emerged. It carved a deep path through the beach toward dry land. Only Goose and Hiro between it and a feast of its own. The trail behind it was both faintly scorched and coated in a slimy film that sizzled on the sand.
Goose trumpeted in defiance of the intruder and shook off its waterlogged wings to take flight. Hiro was seemingly forgotten as it circled over the slug. Another bombing was let loose, aimed for the things many eyes.

No common sense existed behind those many heads. Nothing to cause momentum to halt. To direct its aerial path into a u-turn and away from the blade pointed directly at its incoming form. No. Goose took it like a gander. Straight to one of its five remaining faces. The knife embedded itself through bill and skull. The four remaining hydra cried out in a mix of pain and rage, “HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK.”
Goose flailed and bit at Retsu in their locked stance even still, but with far less vigor than before. Its mourning wrath was not the only siren to sound, however. Their conflict had not gone unreported. People scattered even as others were on the verge of arriving to detain and contain the chaos. Perhaps it was the granted wish for one of the fleeing civilians. How nice for them.

Change accompanied the passage of time hand-in-hand, yet some aspects of existence were immune to their union. Such as the perpetual disdain for people on their phones in public spaces. Violators of proper protocols, each and every one of them. As such, the interloper only had himself to blame for the events that followed his shattering of the fragile silence cast over the mountainside.
In the wake of wrapper undone came a bestial roar. If one considered a honk a roar. And if Goose could consider anything beyond its primal urges, it would agree.
“HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK. HONK.”
Six cries blended into a singular symphony of impending chaos. Birds kept hushed in their fear fled the trees in droves. Their evacuation cast a shadow as they momentarily blotted out the sun over a small area. From the departure of their temporary eclipse came another dark shape. Goose had launched itself into the sky amid the panic and now it was swooping directly toward the source of the disturbance, bills opened wide to consume whatever remained in its path.

Blade met body even as bills and bamboo bit into the opposition. Once. Twice. Thrice—and so on. Crimson colored once snowy plumage and worn down ground alike. While not all of the wound wept tears belonged to the beast, many were of its own flesh. One head hung limply down the front of its body. Half-severed, it flopped lifelessly, bounced by each movement otherwise dedicated to propelling the conflict onward.
Pause came only from Goose lifting off with several flaps of bloodied wings. “HONK. HONK. HONK,” three of the five remaining heads cried out. The other two busied themselves with ripping their ruined kin free from the hydra horde. No replacements grew from the stump in spite of the legends as it circled around its prey once more. The two heads briefly bickered over which could consume the remains in the scant seconds that passed. Once one had claimed victory over the other and gorged itself upon its decapitated brethren with a single swallow, the collective swooped back into the fray, a feathery missile aimed directly at the wild woman’s face.

Every hit landed upon the feathered body was met with an outraged cry of, “HONK.” Some were muffed as the bills they spilled from were seeking to chomp and chew on anything that got close to them. The final kick sent the beast tumbling into a dango stall while realization settled in for the crowd.
Stacks of skewered spheres cascaded to the ground. As one menace drew a knife, the other drew weapons of convenience. Two of the outer heads, one on the left and one on the right, now wielded deadly daggers of their own. If one considered the oversized toothpicks that were the bamboo skewers holding stick treats together deadly. As they should when under the control of nature’s apex predator — Goose.
As its opponent returned to the fray, so too did Goose. With bills biting and skewers… skewing. The creature showed no reservation. No hesitation. The threat of pain from the knife and Villain meant nothing to its primal brain. Its onslaught unending unless ended for it.

Pandemonium.
Perhaps a milder subset of the reaction. There might have been worse things that came tumbling out of the box the word claimed origins within, but not much from the viewpoint of any unfortunate enough to be squarely in a landing zone. There were cries of disgust aplenty from that number, but only one issued a challenge of its own in turn.
Six heads turned in unison toward the affronted party in question. The beast’s body soon followed. Flight path changed from sweeping overhead to swooping down below in a charged rush of feather and fang. Their presence had been demanded, but it was not deference that led to the summoning’s success.
