"Most people don't make the connection. I'm good at hiding it. My own partner didn't know until I told." Futaba laughed at little on how of a shock it came to some of the people she was allowed to tell about her second job. It was a awkward situation often to manage when it comes to her regular work but she didn't mind the multi tasking. When she was attending High School, she would often work long hours in her family's bakery. Like many people in her family, she was overworked but she never let that show. She was too much like her mother to admit that.
"Let me just..." Futaba pulled up Freja's email on her computer. "I'll send you some links, kay? Not just for HoloStar but other places as well." Futaba attached a couple links and job boards before sending Freja the email.
"I think you'd be a great fit for HoloStar if that's worth anything." Futaba smiled before pulling up her phone. "Let me give you my phone number. If there is ever a emergency or something pressing you want to talk about, I'll be reachable. Sound good?"

Feeding cats was somewhat of a hobby for Futaba. Ever since she had been a little girl, there also had been cats around in her life. She remembered growing up with two cats in the house and many more that lingered in her neighbourhood. Her brother always had the propensity to feed any stray or neighbour cat because 'they deserve a little treat'. Futaba adopted a similar mindset with her cats and the neighbourhood she lived in. She would make a point to feed any cat that would want food, which was most. Then add her condition which made things extra exciting.
Being a sort of observer of the spirit world, she could often see things that weren't cats but were pretending to be cats so they wouldn't spook normal people. These cats were often messengers or couriers for other spirits and had very particular pallets. It was often a hassle to find the right food, like uncooked duck eggs or pine cones. It was all very bizarre but she was fine with doing it. It made her life a little less annoying and there was therapeutic quality to it.
“Tama-chan! Dinnertime!” Futaba would call out. Two cats would wander into the kitchen, tails aloft. The Tortoiseshell made her opinions on the food known while the black and white cat happily started eating away. Laughing a little, Futaba gathered the food for the other cats that were naturally outside.
Pulling her screen door open, she was greeted by the variety of real and not so real cats. Pouring some dry food into the outside bowls she had set up, she watched 10 plus cats run to the bowls and start chowing down. The Spirit cats patiently waited for Futaba to put down the bits and bobs they like to eat. A pine cone there, a duck egg here, a set of buttons and what have you. Once all the cats were occupied, Futaba noticed the new cat. She hadn't seen in before so she figured it probably was a new spirit.
"Kami-sama, who are you delivering mail to?" Futaba would ask the strange cat.

Futaba was a bit relieved that there was someone else as interested in research as she was. Last time she did research, she was still a undergraduate student looking into the causes of her own quirk. She remembered doing a brain scan and then doing the analysis on it herself, rather than asking a professional at first. She eventually got a second opinion, after she found a intriguing anomality.
"I'm busy for the next two weeks but I probably can get research gathered at that time. After that, we can do start doing a deep dive." Futaba would suggest, taking a sip from her drink and then realising it was empty. "Want another drink?" Futaba would ask, getting up from her seat.

Freja's reaction was very endearing. She rarely got to tell people about her profession. Her family had to sign a NDA before she could tell them. It was odd at first to her but understanding on how people view vtubers. Futaba was playing a sort of character. People wanted to see that character, not the person behind it. She was already used to it by this point so when she could tell someone who just seems to be a earnest fan was always great. "People don't talk to me enough here to recognise me voice." Futaba giggled a little, before continuing "Once you remove the models, we are less scary. I swear."
Futaba glanced at her phone, seeing a couple notifications from her gen mates. "We have a couple job openings that aren't being an idol. I need a editor for my stream VODs for example." Futaba would offer, looking at her phone again. "If you want, I can send you my managers number and you can talk to them?"

Decline of rural schools was one of the sadder things Futaba had to witness. Being from a rural area, she was used to having small class sizes and generally everyone knowing another. With the declining birthrate and everyone trying to move to the big cities, meaning there would be less and less people. Eventually these small towns would just sort of die a slow death. Many towns that lacked some sort of historical significance or tourism attraction were suffering from this and it was sad to see. So far her hometown had escaped such fate. She doubt it would ever go away. Their Cherry Blossom season was too nice for it that to ever happen.
She had gotten a call from a friend of hers that a school was closing down. It was the school her best friend from university attended. One train ride to Hokkaido later, Futaba and her assistant had made it to small school in the north of the country. She was excited to be there, it was going to be less people and a little break from the hustle and bustle of UAU. After talking to the staff at the school, Futaba had made her way to the library.
"Before you do that, Yasuragi-san. The librarian here gave me a list of the books they have. I already referenced it and drew a line under the books we don't have. If you would, could you find these books in that section?" Futaba would ask, holding out a list of fiction books.

"I wouldn't mind that. I have the paper I wrote about my quirk we can use as a guideline. It's pretty extensive." Futaba would suggest, starring down her drink. It was some sort of beer one of the professors suggested. It wasn't exactly great but it would have to do. She wasn't in the mood to get too drunk in front of her colleagues. Not that it would lower the opinion most of them had of her.
"I know some academic papers that would love to publish a study like that if you are interested." Futaba would suggest. Publication maybe would mean she could have a different job eventually.

Sometimes it feels like the UAU staff, at least the hero course side, forgets that Futaba works for the University. The other courses don't and often ask for help from her finding research material and such. Not the hero course. She usually got a 'Who are you?' when she would pester them to return books they had checked out for a year. Regardless, at least she gets invited to the staff mixers. She was busy not paying much attention, scrolling through her phone when she noticed someone sit down next to her. "Oh, hello Hebriu-san. Good to see you." Futaba slid her phone in her pocket before paying more attention to her colleague.
"Yes I do. My master's thesis was actually about my former quirk. Is there something you need for research material? I have some good connections at University of Tokyo." Futaba wasn't sure what her colleague wanted but she is always willing to listen.

Futaba couldn't help but giggle a little. Hearing someone say they're a big fan of 'Oshiro', her friend and co-worker. She was just testing Suki a few minute ago about dinner plans. Suki and Futaba usually go out to lunch or dinner together after work. It was funny to her that she could overhear some of the students talking about people she knew really well and worked with. She has to remember to mention that to Suki when she sees her the next time. "Oh, yeah. That's my second job. I work for HoloStar." Futaba peered over to the door to make sure it was closed.
"Yeah, you can say I know Oshiro. I have lunch with her all the time. If you start working with the company, you'll probably meet her." Futaba couldn't help feel a bit giddy. Naturally there was a fandom behind her band but it was usually the regulars that supported generally most of the talent from the company. She loved being 'Momo'. Momo was very much like her but there were just parts of it that expressed itself better through Momo. Hard to show off your love for Ska and music in general being a librarian.
"Glad you liked the concert. My band mates and I worked hard on it. Was a really fun time. Anyways." Futaba casually dropped the detail without lingering too much on it. She wanted Freja to meet her own conclusions. "HoloStar hires many people, quirk or not. Some of us have quirks, some don't. Not everyone is an idol. My best friend works as a video editor for them. There are lots of opportunities there!"

"I used to have a quirk. Indeed. It's why I have these now." Futaba pointed at the hearing aids in her ears. The hearing aids were a side effect of her loss of hearing that was induced by her quirk. It was a rather nasty thing that she rather not want to deal with again. The hearing loss is a cakewalk compared to what her quirk would do. She could without whatever the hell happens at her house at night. Spirits weren't fun to look at. "You'll get used to it, I promise." Futaba nodded, not wanting to pry too much on the quirk issue. She has met others who have lost quirks who never told her why and others who shared it openly. She isn't going to pry on Freja's personal life unless Freja disclosed that information herself.
"Yeah, it's a fancy place. A lot more prestigious as UAU but that's my personal bias." Futaba laughed a little, her pride in her alma mater being a rather infamous thing among the UAU staff. It did concern Futaba, however, that Freja was struggling to find employment. She knew that being a hero student usually meant that the students would do internships at agencies. It was rather disheartening for Futaba to think about.
Looking at her computer screen, she noticed her HoloStar schedule was still up. "So, uh, well. Would you be interested in working for HoloStar? I know it isn't hero work but its a nice job and they have various career opportunities." Futaba would suggest, wondering what Freja's reaction would be.

Freja was a very interesting student to Futaba. Very rarely would she encounter a student at UAU that was quirkless, let alone a hero student. The last quirkless student she remembered from the year before dropped out of the school and moved home after feeling their prospects limited by being quirkless. Futaba felt like they failed that student so isn't going let that happen to another student if she could help it. "I know what you mean. Seems unfair right?" Futaba wanted to start in a way that it didn't sound like she was dismissive of Freya's concerns. Futaba had gotten lucky with the jobs she has but understands that she was the exception, not the rule.
"Well, as someone who lost their quirk before I really could do anything with it so a lot of my career options got limited but there a plenty of jobs out there for people like you and me." Futaba knew being quirkless in today's society probably meant that a lot of your career prospects were limited or eliminated in the latest, hottest economic trend: heroes. "Like, I want to be honest. With how heroes work, being quirkless puts you at a great disadvantage. Futaba paused a bit, giving Freja a soft smile. She didn't want to come off as discouraging so she continued "I got my degree from the University of Tokyo, at least I got my masters from there. I work for UAU so I do work for the hero course." Getting up from her chair, she went and closed the office door.
"I work two jobs because UAU doesn't pay me enough to live in Tokyo. I don't live in Tokyo anyway. It's too loud for me." Futaba laughed a little, before sitting down again."I think, however, if anyone can make this hero thing work, it would be you, Helt-san."

Futaba was humming a bit to herself. There was some music she had been thinking of. Being in a vtuber band was a very involved job. Talking to producers, writers, etc. Meant she was always busy with that in some form or another. Humming along, she finished up her schedule before hearing a voice enter her office. Turning towards the door, Futaba smiled softly. It was one of the students she met back when Futaba offered the library tour. "Ah, hello Halt-san. It's good to see you!" Futaba could somewhat relate to Freja. When she saw them, she saw herself when she was in High School. She couldn't place her fingers on why that was but she remembered offering that anyone can drop in and talk to her if they needed it.
"Of course, Halt-san. Take a seat!" Futaba would gesture at the seat in front of her desk before turning off her computer monitor. "Is there something bothering you?" She would ask, giving the student a inquisitive look.

Futaba raised her eyebrow a bit but changed up her search terms. Micro details on how warriors fought can be a lot harder to pin down. A lot of times, there is a lot of unreliable information out there because it is hard to describe how someone fought when their tactics were more important. "So that be a lot harder to really get information on. Most historical warriors don't have accurate accounts on how they fought. Their strategies are a lot more well documented. I can look into that some more but there isn't something outside of history of kendo books and such that could give that particular information. " Futaba nodded a bit, pulling up some martial arts books on her device.
Pressing a button, it sent a signal to her office which would tell one of the library workers to pull the books for her. Gesturing around the library, Futaba started gesturing around the books. "As you can tell, UAU has one of the largest libraries in Japan. From every major Non-fiction category to movies, the library probably will have access in some way or another." Futaba would gesture along the aisles, pointing at some of the signs that would state different sections of the library.
"The books I mentioned would be found in the Science Non-Fiction section of the library for example." Futaba smiled a bit at the students question. She received the question often enough that she would often introduce herself at functions with a small bio. "I am not actually. I'm alumni of the University of Tokyo. I came to UAU last year. I was hired to run to the library and assist any of the departments when it comes to research materials. It can be a lot at times, when the staff remembers I exist." Futaba would add the final part as a small joke, giving a small chuckle at her own joke.

Futaba usually had designated office hours. These office hours were for appointments, meetings, helping other staff, and what else she might have to do. Usually Futaba would work on her vtubing schedule or video editing. Most of the time, she wouldn't have people suddenly bursting in on her in the office. Most people at her work didn't know that she was a vtuber and she was fine with that. She knew some of the admins would be disappointment that 'she isn't dedicating 100% her effort to the students', whatever that meant.
The schedule she had planned for the coming week was rather low work compared to usual stream loads. She wasn't doing anything super intense this week. Just some Animal Crossing, Pokemon and chatting. It wasn't exactly her shamisen stream or when she would do music. Her neighbors also didn't appreciate when she would be playing with her gen mates. Brass instruments weren't exactly quiet. Regardless, she was self indulging a bit with her schedule. While creating her thumbnails for the streams, she would listen to the music that she would soon perform at the coming HoloStar concert. To hide what music she was listening to, Futaba had the music fed to her via her hearing aids.
"Long day..." Futaba would mutter, posting her schedule for her manager, peering that she still had a few hours in her work schedule.

Futaba was delighted to hear that the student needed some help finding books. Most of the time, she would just get a grumpy reply. Most students were usually confused to see someone who looks barely older than them. Regardless, she pulled her school phone out of her pocket. It was special device she used at the school that is linked to the library system. She would be able to recall any book that currently is at the library, which ones are checked out, etc.
Scanning the isle, she put in some search terms already before asking some clarifying questions. "So, relating to ancient warriors, that's a pretty broad topic. Is there any specific era you are interested in? Do you want to learn about warriors from the Ancient History? Bronze Age? Iron Age? Do you want to learn things about specific eras of history of Japan specifically like the Heian jidai or Sengoku Jidai?" Futaba pulled up some books relevant to what she discussed but would change it if the student had other specifics in mind.
The other books would be a lot easier for her to pick out, however. "So, books relating to time relating to physics will show some crossover with philosophy. Time is a hard thing to quantify after all. The Direction of Time by Hans Reichenbach and From Eternity to Here: The Quest for the Ultimate Theory of Time by Sean Carrol. We have the latter book in the library. I can request the other from the University of Tokyo." Futaba would pull the books up on her phone and add them to the cart.
"Quirkology books aren't readily available yet but we have access to thousands of resource papers on the library website that probably would help with that." Futaba nodded a bit before getting a ping that stated that one of her assistants had finished up for the day. "I can show you the books I mentioned or direct you towards the isle they would be." Futaba would add, gesturing around the the library shelves.

Another day, another day of sorting books into the library. Being a librarian at UAU was a very interesting job. Several signs posted on door that informed people that quirk use is expressly prohibited. Not that this was out of the ordinary for most of the campus, people just had to be reminded because one too many books had been torn up because someone was reading something about a quirk and tried using their quirk in that way. Luckily, most of those books were easily replaced. The expensive manuscripts were locked away in the part of the library most students aren't allowed to access. Regardless, she always had to keep an eye out for it. Not that she could do much about it.
Today was rather slow. There weren't enough books for her to really warrant bringing out the sorting cart. Plus, it looked like the assistants were on top of things. She had more important things to do like tell students to not talk too loudly or help students that were looking for particulars. Usually that meant she had to walk around the library and ask if people needed help. Most students, especially younger students, were a bit shy to ask help.
Wandering through the aisles, Futaba would ask the students she would see if they would need any help. Most students either politely refused or asked for fairly simple things like where they could find fiction books. Eventually, she came upon a person scanning through multiple books.
"Excuse me, do you need any assistances?" Futaba would ask politely, making sure that the student could see her name tag in case they turned around. Due to Futaba's age, there a decent amount of people think she is just an older student.
