“Uh-oh…” May’s being obnoxiously loud. Everyone already heard Mark’s confession, yet she brings attention to it for the banter. “Does Mark have a crush on Iphi? Oooo~” May takes a sip of her sangria, and by sip, she finishes the cup and immediately refills it, before continuing. “This is what I mean by the scoop Mai. Crushes are so juicy. Even if I don’t know who Iphi is. Are they the other new hire?” Speaking of the devil, the other new hire arrives. Unfortunately, it’s not Iphi. But the head of a support? Super cool! Maybe, he’ll even take a few shots in celebration of their new jobs. “Very impressive, Doctor..” May saunters over, speaking with her hands as best she could. Her glass was part of the show since he refused to part ways with it. Directly in front of him, he pulls out shot glasses with the mischievous twinkle in her eye glowing ever brighter. Turning around dramatically, she raises them to the sky. “We must have shots in honor of our new hires!” She looks back at Hasani with a wink, which deceptively looks like a blink were it not for the intentional emphasis provided. “Wanna help me pass these out, Doc?” The attention span of a fly. “HEBI! HOW ARE THE BRISKETS LOOKIN’?”

“OMG, yes! Twinning. Mai?” May gestures towards Mai, then herself. “May! And you brought sake?” She wipes a fake tear from her eye. “I’ve never felt more seen.” Sake’s always been pretty light, so she takes a double shot and chases it down with another glass of sangria. At this point, most people would have felt buzzed but this was what needed to wake up in the morning. Hopefully, no one got too worried! “Listen,” She leans into Mai. “The brisket is technically all mine — Hebi promised — but for my twin, I can make an exception.” She nudges Mai’s waist. “Whaddya say? Wanna give me the UAU scoop and hot goss’?”

May grabbed three glasses out of her bag, pressing them against her body as she poured out drinks. She couldn’t help but stifle a laugh, desperately trying to keep the glasses from falling. “You’re funny!” This is where May would wink if it weren’t for her eyepatch. Or where she would not wink if she let her eyepatch dictate how she lived her life. Limitation breeds creativity. And that’s why when she winks, she puts her entire body into it so onlookers don’t mistake it as a blink. “No one’s getting fired. You’re supposed to get shitfaced as barbeques. ;)” “I try Sadako but a party can’t spirit by itself. It needs a friend!” May pushes her hip out, offering one of the drinks while carrying the bottle and three bags in her other arm. There must be easier ways to do this, but she’s too caught up in the moment. One of the glasses is empty, somehow disappearing before she finishes her offer. “HEBI!” May has a big ol’ smile. “WHERE’S MY BRISKET? HMMM?? :D”

I juuuuust got hired in time for the barbie! Listen up. I was kicking ass in the interview. There was no question as to whether I was getting the job offer. But Hebiru could sense my hesitation — it’s hard to hide when all I’ve had is my morning mimosa and a cranberry vodka for brunch. The butterflies were ready to emerge from their Chrysalis and without a glass of whiskey neat to ease my nerves, Hebiru looked to appease my appetite instead of my thirst. My mouth was watering. Pulled pork and chopped brisket? I’m in. A quick flight across the world and it was all mine! “Heyyy,” I show up in pretty professional attire, a white button-up tucked in my high-rise black slacks. Of course, you can’t forget the patented eyepatch coupled with a mischievous twinkle in my eye. I reach into one of the three reusable bags I’m carrying with me and let out a devilish grin. “I brought the sangria~”

When she first discovered it, people were put off but her unsightly, 'missing-eye' appearance. An eyepatch helps loads and makes her feel like a pirate, too. Nurse pirate? Has a ring to it, doesn't it? Most importantly Mei carries herself with a youthful exuberance befitting a 26-year-old, ignoring the march to death and the rhythm of the reaper's steps. Mei spent most of her life being a great student, a great daughter, and a great asset to her family. They had high expectations and she met them every time. Even surpassed them when she went to medical school and did research on the cutting edge of the field. But there, outside of her sheltered life, she was introduced to people. And gosh, people are just the best, aren't they?
Instead of becoming a researcher, she opted to work in a hospital. And while it was fun and games for awhile, her coworkers saw how bored she was. People were great, but people alone were not enough. Mei needed something to stimulate her mind. Flipping through research without a greater cause caused her to stop reading entirely.
It was gross.
It was only after constant pushing and prodding and then, eventually, losing a bet that she accepted an offer to fly over to Japan and work as a UAU nurse. Help the future generation, put yourself in a new environment, and hopefully reap the rewards that come with working alongside heroes... aka... industry parties!
