Mei's the type of person you can't invite to fancy restaurants or movie theaters. If she's there, everyone will know. A side effect of growing up in The United States means that she comes off very American. Her family's been there a few generations, but she's the first to embrace The Land of the Free — faults and all.
She'll speak her mind, whether it'll get her in trouble or not, and only get away with it because of what she has to say. Mei is confrontational but she isn't combative. She likes to think of herself as the voice of reason, even when being unreasonable, she thinks offering a different perspective is good! It doesn't hurt that in a world filled with ego-driven heroes she offers a much-needed, grounded warmth.
But off the clock, she likes to party! Whether she's invited or not, she'll find a way in and be sure to drag as many friends as possible. And if she doesn't have any? Mei will look for the host and become besties!

Or maybe they told her that to make her feel better about herself. How is telling a young girl she has big feet because she's part giant supposed to help? God only knows. Fortunately enough, she grew into them.
Outside of that, she has an eyepatch! It covers her completely blind, white eye which is a catalyst for her quirk. When she first discovered it, people were put off but her unsightly, 'missing-eye' appearance. An eyepatch helps loads and makes her feel like a pirate, too. Nurse pirate? Has a ring to it, doesn't it?
Most importantly Mei carries herself with a youthful exuberance befitting a 26-year-old, ignoring the march to death and the rhythm of the reaper's steps.

Even surpassed them when she went to medical school and did research on the cutting edge of the field. But there, outside of her sheltered life, she was introduced to people. Instead of becoming a researcher, she opted to work in a hospital. And while it was fun and games for awhile, her coworkers saw how bored she was. People were great, but people alone were not enough. Mei needed something to stimulate her mind. Flipping through research without a greater cause caused her to stop reading entirely.
It was gross.
It was only after constant pushing and prodding and then, eventually, losing a bet that she accepted an offer to fly over to Japan and work as a UAU nurse. Help the future generation, put yourself in a new environment, and hopefully reap the rewards that come with working alongside heroes... aka... industry parties!
