She was supposed to be a dud.

Born in Hachinohe in the Tōhoku region, Anya grew up in the countryside, far from advanced society. Hachinohe, being a largely insulted area with a big fishing industry, meant that Anya was exposed to that lifestyle early. Her father worked as a fisherman, and her mother worked at the local police department. Nothing out of the ordinary early on for Anya, she was one of the many kids who manifested a seemingly useless quirk, a dud so to speak. In her case when her emotions flared up she would grow just slightly but nothing more.

For the better part of her life, none of that mattered. Heroes and Villains largely stayed away from her small town; after all, what would be the point? So, any notion of hero vs. villain conflicts was largely through the media or stories from neighbors who traveled to the metropolitan areas. Anya wasn't particularly interested in being a hero, as she was, by her own admission, a dud, but she was interested in police work.

Hesitant initially set her down that path, knowing how dangerous that work could be, and decided she would need to learn how to defend herself first. For her, this meant taking up martial arts! Starting at a local dojo, she trained in Aikido from age ten and found herself with a knack for it! From there, her interest increased, and she began to branch out to other areas, even staying briefly at the Shirayuki Dojo as a trainee, getting acquainted with Shirayuki Mai during their brief time together.

Eventually, she ended up at the Shin-Gyokuto Dojo, took up swordplay, and met Sho Matsui. She would spend an extended amount of time learning there as she had a "knack for it," so she'd continue spending more free time there. Over the years, she and Sho became close friends, and while they didn't see each other frequently as they got older, they would always make time over the years to meet at the dojo for a spar. Sure, Anya would always lose, but she was continuously improving.

When she turned 18, it was time for her evaluation to become a police officer. She didn't expect that during the physical portion of the test, during a particularly difficult activity, it would be revealed that she wasn't a dud after all. With her frustrations reaching a fever pitch, a large pinkish purple avatar of her form exploded out of her, destroying a large portion of the training facility, which, of course, resulted in Anya failing.

However, someone took an interest in her display. A pro-hero associated with the police saw potential and took her under her wing to teach her how to use her quirk properly. Anya's teacher was integral in forming her opinions on hero and villain society. When the time came, Anya would instead take the Pro-Hero Licensing Exam as a civilian and passed with ease.

So, for the last few years, she did her work operating mostly outside of Tokyo up until she discovered something that shook her worldview: Sho Matsui was an assassin by trade. Their contact was fleeting, but she spent years with him and could tell who he was even under all those shadows. The revelation...broke something in her. It made her grit her teeth in anger as she decided to track him down and bring him to justice, but he vanished just as fast as he reappeared. So, left with frustrations and regrets, she decided she would make it her personal goal to take in those closest to him to force him to act.

The Mummy was in her sights.
