That there wasn't some reason behind the question after all was a bigger relief than Nat thought it'd be, relaxing with a little sigh after Yoko answered. Splitting her attention between Yoko and the cat, she gave a slight incline of her head as her way of nodding along. “That’s nice of you.” She noted, and she meant it. A lot of people didn't want shelter cats, or stray cats, and only bothered with store or breeder bought ones. The allergy question got a slight shake of her head and a “Hasn’t bothered me since I moved in.” as a mild joke about Yoko being cat-like at times.
She wasn't trying to be vague there, she just didn't know if different types of cat could cause allergies to flare up or not.
Watching the cat drink water, Nat glanced back at her bags on the counter. “Thanks. Wandered around a shopping district, found some fun stuff to try. Foods too. I think this time I'm going to try making gyoza from scratch.” Pausing to glance down at Yoko she added. “If you didn't have any other plans for food.”
She didn't want to assume, but she was pretty sure today was a Yoko-glued-to-the-couch day. Yanai Yoko

Hands full, Nat hooked her foot around the door as she came in to shut it again behind her. Heading for the counter she didn't immediately notice the cat, giving a slight nod towards the familiar sight of Yoko lounging on the couch. “Yo, Yoko.” She greeted back, starting to unpack. She'd gotten all kinds of things, some for new hobbies she wanted to try and some more cooking experiments, and some basics for the dorm kitchen just to keep it stocked up. The purring caught her ear but she didn't realize what it was immediately, glancing up and tipping her head to one side. Was it a pipe under the sink or something? “Oh?” She offered as a quick confirmation that she was listening to whatever Yoko had on her mind.
She'd expected some kind of suggestion for the dorms, or their next teamwork exercise, or maybe weekend plans of some kind. Being asked if they were friends caught Nat entirely by surprise and she stopped what she was doing to glance over at her roommate. She enjoyed hanging out with Yoko and beneath the surface of being a short tempered grump she was actually a really considerate roommate to have. They got along well in classes together too, despite some mishaps.
“I think so.” Nat answered. It wasn't that she wasn't sure, she definitely could say she considered Yoko her friend. She wasn't so sure why Yoko was asking, or if she considered Nat to be her friend too. It wasn't like Nat herself was all that interesting, so it wouldn't surprise her. “Do you?”
Nat paused after asking back, noticing the kitten for the first time and blinking quietly for a moment. Did Yoko buy a cat, or was it one she already had and hadn't brought to the dorms until now? Or was she cat sitting for someone, or found a stray?
Whatever the case it was purring up a storm and Nat walked over to slowly offer a hand out, glancing at both the cat and Yoko to make sure it was okay, before going to lightly pet it on the head. If it was okay or not she was going to eventually add: “Cute cat.” Yanai Yoko

Nat relaxed once Yoko had Kaori restrained, impressed with how quickly her roommate could trigger her transformation. Certainly far faster than the way similar things were shown in shows and games, but that was probably for dramatic effect or something? Or maybe it was just some ancient hold over from the pre-Quirk days when nobody actually had a frame of reference. Putting that idle thought aside and bringing her arms up to cross under her chest thoughtfully, she listened along to Yoko’s idea. It was a good one, and maybe it was some residual effects of the anger ball or she just really didn’t like Kaori, but Nat didn’t mind throwing her to the wolves one bit, so to speak.
Tipping her head to one side slightly while the other two were arguing, Nat concluded that Kaori just also deserved it for trying to get them in trouble and misusing her Quirk like that.
After Yoko dove in the ‘villains’ weren’t giving up that easily, focusing on trying to handle Kaori and get Yoko to release the one she had a hold on. Which could let Nat sprint in unnoticed to free the hostages. Something Nat considered trying, but escorting them might get messy quick if the villains managed to threaten the hostages or team up on her while Yoko and Kaori were trying to catch up or busy.
“Wait, the third one is probably-”
Right as the ‘villain’ held down by Yoko realised Nat was missing, about to tell their teammates to worry about the hostages instead, Nat came running in to help with the fight with a big kick aimed at one of the villains surrounding Kaori and sending them stumbling in surprise, more kicks following. Most were blocked, but Nat had some decent speed and force and she focused on keeping the group as off balance as she could to prevent them from coordinating. Some of them definitely relied too much on their Quirks, not being able to making it pretty clear they weren’t that familiar with getting kicked at. Some were seniors for a reason though, blocking and getting their bearings despite Nat’s efforts.
They were more or less all lined up now though, focusing on Nat more than Kaori or Yoko and leaving the short troll-transformed girl free to barrel through them. Yanai Yoko

Nat gave a slight incline of her head to acknowledge Yoko’s reminder while she tried to piece together what was going on. Easier said than done, though. Were there really rumors about her being violent? Was kicking and footwork that much more violent than the stuff a lot of Quirks could do? Maybe Kaori was just lashing out because getting kneed in the stomach had hurt, saying whatever came to her mind even if it didn’t make that much sense? Any further dwelling on that though was put aside by Yoko and Kaori arguing, and Nat’s eyes widened a bit as something clicked together.
Shifting her weight onto one leg cautiously as Kaori pointed at her, Nat shook her head at Yoko’s question. “I didn’t.” The threat at the end went entirely ignored, keeping her attention on Kaori.
It was a good thing she did too, because she threw her hands up with a yell of “Forget it!” and brought one palm up to whisper into again. Conjuring a strange wispy thing that Nat recognized as what she had briefly seen before, this time Kaori didn’t give it much time to try to mistakenly attack her as she shoved it towards Nat while calling out a pre-emptive attempt to rile her up. “Aren’t you roommates and friends or something? What kind of person threatens to beat up their roommate?”
Nat hopped backwards as the Quirk raced towards her, pivoting on one foot to change course and avoid it. It was quick to turn around, zooming quickly right for her faster than she could hop around and reaching out to sting her aga - Nat quickly stepped around Kaori, putting her in the way as the Quirk bopped her right on the face. A moment later their teammate was red faced and letting out a frustrated yell as she started jabbing fingers at both of them.
“Why aren’t you two fighting! This was supposed to be easy!”
Keeping wary just in case Kaori tried to attack them, or use her Quirk more, Nat gave a tip of her head towards Kaori while explaining her best guess to Yoko if she hadn’t already realized what was up. “Her Quirk is some kind of… Anger Ball.” Yanai Yoko

Kneeing Kaori in the stomach should have made Nat feel better, but it didn’t. All the dreadlocked blonde could focus on was their condescending classmate, who apparently couldn’t even block or avoid an attack like that because she had her head that far up her own ass. Tie her shoes for her? Right now Nat felt like wringing her neck instead. When Yoko intervened and started asking questions, glancing at Nat, it fell on deaf ears. Nat wasn’t ignoring her, she couldn’t really register that she was there at all with how laser-focused she was on Kaori.
Then all at once that overwhelming anger just vanished, all the tension going with it and Nat nearly stumbled as she came back to herself. Frowning, brow furrowing, Nat’s confusion was uncharacteristically easy to read on her face as she glanced at Kaori, her own hands, and wondered why she had felt so angry over something so trivial.
Yoko demanding answers while pointing at her caught her attention, glancing over at her fast enough to make her dreadlocks sweep across her shoulders. “Sorry, I don’t…” She trailed off, trying to think of how to phrase it. She knew she’d been angry, so saying she didn’t know wasn’t right. “I don’t get angry like that, I’m not sure what happened. Are you okay?” She settled on that still unsatisfying feeling answer, checking on Kaori and bringing a hand up to her head as she tried to remember exactly what had happened through the cloud of anger shrouding the past minute of her memory. She was just standing there and then Kaori was saying stuff and before she knew it she had stepped over and hit her. She couldn't even remember exactly what Kaori had said. She remembered a sharp pain just before then, too, and something small zipping by. Twice, just before that strange anger went away she could remember seeing it again out of the corner of her eye.
One of the senior’s quirks? Or…

Nat took the map without a second thought, perfectly content to be the established map reader whenever it came up. Peering at it, she briefly appreciated that it wasn’t pitch black or on a mountainside this time before focusing on coming up with plans. She gave small comments here and there, exchanging some thoughts with her teammates, on their way to the middle of the forest. Nothing in depth, just trying to get a feel for how they wanted to approach it. Sneaky, guns blazing, that sort of thing. Looking up from the map when Yoko reprimanded Kaori for being quiet and apologizing, she wanted to interject to try and reassure Kaori that Yoko was probably just trying to help in her grumpy sort of way. Like their own talk when they were stuck dangling, Yoko had said it wasn’t good for Nat to just go along with everything and she probably saw a similar issue with how timid Kaori was.
Being described as scary made her tilt her head to one side, glancing at Yoko with one eyebrow raised in a way that silently asked ‘Am I scary?’.
Before she could say anything their teammate suddenly flipped her whole demeanor around. Shifting her weight to one foot, Nat got the impression Kaori was just messing with them the entire time until now. Staring at her with a stony expression, she wasn’t sure how to respond exactly but the sudden Quirk use threw her off more. What was Kaori up to with such a funny looking Quirk? Maybe if she wasn’t so fascinated by Quirks she would have thought to avoid it, but the sudden bonk on the back of her neck from it prompted her to slap a hand up against the spot it touched.
It had stung. What was the point of hitting her with something like that? Just to be petty? From the outside it probably looked like Nat was just standing there with her hand on her neck as Kaori started mockingly whining about her shoes, the dreadlocked blonde closing her eyes and taking a deep breath to try and center herself. Moving forward, eyes opening again, the look on her face made it clear it hadn’t worked. Eyes wide and focused only on Kaori, pupils small and eyebrows narrowed, Nat was absolutely furious as she reached out to rest her hands on either of their teammates shoulders.
She was fully intending to knee the girl right in the stomach as hard as she could without so much as a word of warning. Yanai Yoko

Nat was here largely by coincidence. She actually had only vaguely heard about the attack and happened to hear about the center being reopened on a day when she was looking to go someplace new anyways. The Toshi Shopping Center was as good a place as any, and she had never been there before. Maybe she would find a new hobby or an interesting food to try out while she was there?
That was her plan anyways, idly hanging out on another edge of the crowd with her weight on one foot and her arms lightly crossed under her chest. She wasn’t personally very invested in the speech being given, but she could imagine it meant a lot to the people who lived in this area. Who had been here when the attack had happened. Who might have had friends and family that were here. Trying to think about it that way, she could find it pretty touching and a nice gesture from the city.
Then a loud bang, Nat whipping her head around and sending her dreadlocks sweeping around as she looked towards the source. She didn’t see where it could have come from but the panic was immediate. Some people didn’t even wait around to find out what was going on, they just immediately started trying to flee the scene. Others were confused and quickly shouting questions and concerns. Even though she wasn’t short, the crowd made her feel like it was hard to really tell what was going on.
So she started to separate from the crowd, intending to try and catch sight of anyone or anything suspicious. She wasn’t a hero, and she didn’t have a Quirk, but the least she could do was keep an eye out to warn people. At least that was what seemed like a good idea in the very brief moment when all that had happened was a loud bang. Alexander Pierrot

Nat's focus was on how she could help the most just from the sound of the course. If the goal was rescuing hostages somehow, then running around or maybe running interference was probably a big part of it? She had to be cautious about getting tangled up, she wouldn't be able to do much if something like those scarf tricks happened again. Not until she could figure out a way to counter it anyways.
Nat didn't complain about being against seniors, just shifting her weight on one foot and lightly crossing her arms under her chest. The ban on quirk use being objected by said seniors was amusing, and made her wonder how many of them were neglecting the physical side of things. Maybe she wouldn't be too bad off for this after all? More importantly, the approach was part of the grade, Nat frowning slightly to try and assess what would be most likely to be good or bad approaches. Yoko being on her team again was a pleasant surprise, giving the short girl a brief little thumbs up gesture. Right as her cigarette got stolen and her roommate went into Grump Mode. She didn't know Kaori, though, so she wasn't sure what to make of being on a team with her.
“Yeah. If we need to carry them out, you might have to use your Quirk.” Nat noted, fully aware it was unlikely Yoko could do something like that under her normal strength. When Kaori spoke up she glanced over at her, giving a small tip of her head in acknowledgement. Before she could reply Yoko was grilling her, Nat reaching over to distract the grumpy blonde with a light poke on the shoulder. “She's on our team, too.”
Her voice was as flat as always but she hoped the gesture came across as a friendly reminder more than anything that would irritate Yoko more. If it did she would be quick to apologise, and have to think up something nice to do later to make up for the blunder.
Eventually either way she was going to ask: “Any plans on how to do this?” Yanai Yoko

Nat nodded along as she tried her own, taking a much more tentative approach than Yoko's big chomps. To her surprise it actually wasn't half bad at all. Her favorite? Probably not, but she was happy with how it turned out anyways. Made her look forward to trying the other slices too. Yoko commenting on it prompted her to look over mid-bite, eyebrows slightly raised at how quickly the other girl had finished off her slice. Finishing that bite off, Nat set her own plate aside and picked up Yoko's as she headed over to get her injured roommate seconds without any more prompting needed. It only made sense and was the considerate thing to do, especially since Yoko had a busted ankle.
“Hard to describe, but if it's good it's good, right?” Nat replied as she loaded the plate up, handing it off to Yoko again before settling back down herself. Only to pause at the invitation and mentally check if she was free. “Yeah, its been awhile since I did that now that you mention it.” She would have agreed anyways, partially because it was more fun than doing something alone and partially because it would be pretty rude to leave Yoko high and dry after she had been nice enough to offer.
For her part Nat wasn't immediately in the clutches of a food coma, relaxing and relieved at how successful try-making-pizza had gone. Was Yoko a fan of pizza in general? She had been about to ask her when she noticed she was asleep, so instead she filed that away to ask about later. If she was, Nat was going to have to make pizza again sometime. Yanai Yoko

The scarf suddenly stiffening and stopping her from unwrapping it was unexpected. Tugging at it with a slight frown, she wasn't paying that much attention to the other students or the instructors' skepticism. It was absolutely fair to say she needed to rely on skill, and just as fair to say her skill level was lacking. Acting like Yoko was hiding behind her though, when backline was an important part of teamwork in Nat's mind, annoyed her. The other students mocking Yoko and her increasingly angry responses to it bothered her even more. Mai undoing the hold she had on her leg let Nat get to her feet again, and she didn't speak up. Yoko had the students covered, and the instructor wasn't really wrong about Nat herself. When she failed, it wasn't just her she let down. It wasn't just Yoko she let down either.
It was hard to see on her stoic face as always, but her eyes were a bit narrowed and her frown getting a little deeper and she was trying to think of how to do better, to help Yoko look better, to show people they were wrong about the short angry girl in the red hoodie. The support and appreciation from Yoko sounded silly but to Nat it felt great to hear, vindicating her belief that Yoko was a lot nicer than she pretended. It also made how poorly Yoko was being treated all the more irritating.
“All-in it is.” Nat agreed, shifting her weight from one foot to the other in preparation while fully expecting Yoko to start conjuring up a storm or something. The transformation bulking her up into a just-as-short, blue powerhouse was a complete surprise and for a moment she was just shocked by how unexpectedly cool quirks could be. No wonder Yoko kept that in reserve, she looked like she would break stuff with a light tap! This time Yoko took the lead charging in with a big punch, and Nat came in right behind her. “Biggest swing you got, Yoko!” She called out and jumped, intending to plant a foot against Yoko's hands and let her fling her towards the instructor. If all went well she was intending to swing her other leg out in a fast, hopefully heavy hitting flying kick with a bunch of Yoko's strength focused into the relatively small point of Nat's foot.
It probably wouldn't do much to their instructor if it landed, but Nat wanted to prove that neither of them needed to resign at all! Yanai YokoShirayuki Mai

Nat might have been tempted to argue the point, or to just concede and take a break, if it wasn’t for the fact that the cleaning and cooking were already done. It was nice that Yoko was pointing it out because she’d been cooking already, though, so she appreciated the thought behind it. Conversation moving on, Nat was pleasantly surprised that Yoko was a fellow bitter tea fan. Not because it didn’t seem like her but more because few people she ever met were fans of bitter tea at all. So that comment got a small smile from the dreadlocked girl, and she didn’t feel the need to argue about the games topic either.
Not that she was the argumentative sort, but Dragon Trigger just was really good and fighters and shooters did kind of suck in her book.
“Big time. With most shooters and fighters it’s the lack of story or level design that gets me. Only a couple even bother trying at all.” Nat agreed, and once pizza was being had she glanced at Yoko and then over to the TV. “Usually. Sometimes just as background noise. Do you?” Taking a bite of pizza and letting Yoko decide what to put on, Nat turned her attention for a few quiet moments to assess how her pizza experiments had turned out. She was paying attention to any reaction Yoko might have too, hoping it was at least edible. Making a hungry roommate wait for food and then it turning out bad wouldn’t be great. Yanai Yoko

Yoko really must be hungry if that look she gave the oven was any indication, but Nat couldn’t really speed things up at this point. Maybe she should have planned to start a bit sooner so it would be done by now? She gave a glance at her phone to make a note of the time, trying to remember when she had started and to make a mental note to start prep a good ten, twenty minutes sooner the next time she made pizza. Who knew when that would be, though? She smiled at Yoko complaining about how cold the ice was, just a slight deviation from her stoic expressions as always, but she didn’t tease her about it. She’d had to use ice packs a few times herself and when you weren’t expecting it it really could be surprisingly cold.
Cleaning while they talked, Nat listened along until Yoko asked what she was doing. Not glancing over at her, she replied. “Keeps it from getting that dirty, and something to do while we wait.” She considered explaining that she didn’t like to have nothing to do, but she couldn’t think of a good way to phrase it. So instead she focused on the previous topics, giving a slight shake of her head that made her pulled-back dreads swish about a bit. “Only if they’re bitter, or at least not very sugary. Sour is good too. Mostly like tea, coffee, that sort of thing. I’m surprised you like fantasy RPGs that much, most people I’ve met seem to like shooters or fighting games.” Maybe it was Japan just being a lot more into fantasy rpgs than the rest of the world was? “Hard to say if I like them more than platformers or puzzle games. Stuff I can just pick up and play for a bit.” She paused, finishing up the simple cleaning and checking the time left to bake. Just a bit too long to be comfortable standing around waiting for it.
Turning back around to glance at Yoko over on the couch, Nat continued by adding. "Easy top three though.”
Normally she wouldn’t be too eager to share her own personal opinions on things, but Yoko was easy to talk to in a weird way. If she had a problem with something she said, Nat was pretty sure Yoko would immediately say something about it. It made it so Nat herself didn’t really have to worry about if she had offended her or not. When the pizza was finally done, Nat hitting the off button on the timer a few seconds before it would have gone off, she grabbed some hot pads and pulled it out before setting to work cutting it into slices based on ‘zones’. “You want to try any specific parts, or just the all-in slices?”
After Yoko’s answer she was going to deliver it over to her on a plate, settling down with her own to try out and hoping it hadn’t turned out awful. Yanai Yoko

Yoko being sarcastic didn’t bother her, but Nat did pause at the joke about her being lucky. Only for a second though, and then she gave an incline of her head in acknowledgement that it probably wasn’t a very good vacation after all. Yoko’s skepticism about trying new things ‘just like that’ was kind of funny though. “Yeah.” Was the only confirmation she felt like she needed to make, focusing on hunting down some ice for Yoko’s ankle. Thankfully they actually had some, even if it wasn’t much, and while Yoko was grumping it up Nat was loading some ice cubes into the middle of the hand towel and tying the corners together to make a little bag of ice. Turning back to Yoko she held the bag of ice out for her to take. “Here.”
With that done she focused on what Yoko said she usually did while the pizza was cooking away in the oven. “That sounds cozy.” She meant it too, and even though she was bad at conversation even she could figure out the obvious ways to keep this one going. “Favorite books, games, drinks?”
While she listened and talked Nat went about cleaning up the kitchen space, keeping herself busy. Yanai Yoko

Nat had good balance even on one leg. The problem was she suddenly found herself on no legs before she could fully even register how quickly her other leg got compromised the moment she stomped it down into the ground. Both legs yanked right out from under her and she found herself tipping backwards with a startled look on her face. Well, startled for her was her eyebrows going up a bit. Internally though she was panicking and flailing about, realizing she was about to be thrown into Yoko and facing the wrong way she couldn’t use her arms to try and catch her fall or move aside from her roommate.
“Mov-” Nat tried to call out a warning, only to get cut off as the wind was knocked out of her and she squished Yoko. “Sorry!” She hastily called out when she caught her breath, rolling off of Yoko as quickly as she could. Yoko was a lot smaller and definitely lighter than she was, and while Nat wasn’t the tallest or heaviest around it couldn’t have been pleasant getting crushed like that. The other way around probably wouldn't have hurt either of them much. So if she was able to freely roll herself onto the ground and start trying to untangle herself from the scarf she was going to ask: “You okay?”
She kept a wary eye on their instructor while she was doing that, too busy wondering what they should try next and trying to think about exactly what went wrong to worry about the laughter from the other students. It wasn’t just that she was faster than them, that trick had completely caught them by surprise and their own tricks hadn’t done that. nat Shirayuki Mai
