"Remember ta' keep yer dome back, though. Leave yerself exposed like that n' yer askin ta have yer lights knocked out."
It was an odd style of boxing most people weren't accustomed to, but damn, was it efficient once appropriately honed. Outside the ring, there were no rules, and dornálaíocht took complete advantage of that. Headlocks, wrestling the opposition to the ground, and knocking their teeth out was all part of it. Harsh stuff, but who cared when their enemies would be the scum and villainy waiting beyond UA's walls, armed with weapons and killing intent.
Farrin gave Phantasmagoria a friendly nod as the two students re-engaged. He didn't want to draw attention away from the bout, but Mama O'Rouke would have whooped his arse if he ignored someone offering encouragement. A loud thud drew his eyes to the ground, where one student wrestled the other into submission. The victim tapped out.
"Alright, good stuff der. C'mon, back on yer feet, both o' yuh."
Farrin helped each of the boys up and gave them a once-over for any injuries—a mostly performative measure. It would have been obvious if either were truly hurt, but they all needed to know he was watching for their wellbeing. Alas, they were within the school's walls, and things needed to be done safely here.
A few bruises and scrapes, a trickle of blood, but nothing insane for a school that routinely threw building-sized bots at the kiddos taking the entrance exam. It was all rather tame. And that's when he heard Phantasmagoria call out to him–another student by her side.
Time was a precious thing. Farrin knew that better than most. Every second counted. That said, this was no exam or even a real, graded class. He would take anyone and everyone interested in learning to defend themselves and others.
"Course, course," he shouted back, waving Arashi over. "Eh, we've another volunteer out der?" He asked the crowd.

Take some traumatized youth, carve their pain into a weapon, and then point it at the enemy. Farrin knew that wasn't exactly the case, but strip away their powers and UA and the hero schools like it could very well come off as psychiatric hospitals. Then again, maybe it was their abilities that shoved their normalcy aside and took its seat.
That seemed to be Jun's case. He didn't know too much about her life before UA, but if exhausting her emotions was a daily routine to keep from blowing the house down, well, she must have been numb pretty often. Still, without an emotional haze clouding the mind, logic might see the situation clearly.
"Yeah, big ol' thing," he said, coming to a stand. Farrin looked to the pit left behind by the ghost ship's bow. "Front o' thing was right 'ere. I've no reason ta' lie, n'... well, jus' look." He continued staring at the indentation in the ground. "I didn't do anythin ta' cause this so..."
So it had to be you, he didn't say. He left the USJ to silence. Farrin took a keen interest in quirkology, and scored well in quirk-theory classes, but he wouldn't pretend to be an expert. Whatever the conditions she met just a few moments ago to make that ship happen, she would figure it out before he did.

Battleships may have been weapons of the sea, but Jun's ghost ship had brought the heat. Normally, she might bust up some boulders and the mountainside. Now, she might be able to level a village. And despite that, she wore defeat across her face.
Farrin reached for her shoulder, then hesitated, drawing his hand back. She didn't like people touching her. Still, something had to be said, if only to do something with his mouth, which was nearly agape. Failed? Waste of time? What banjaxed shite was she on about?
"Eh, I know yuh' hold yerself ta' some high standard, lass, but yuh could certainly earned a pat on the back this time 'round. Like, are yuh blind er' somethin?" He swept his left arm aside, gesturing to the colossal hollow left in the ground. "I'm fine, but that overload o' yers mighta crushed me if I was standin' any closer. That wasn't nothin. That was somethin. A big something. Like, forget the cannons, yuh brought the whole damn navy somethin."
That monumental power flickered away just as soon as it appeared, so he hadn't been able to test out the new move he had wanted to, but this was certainly no waste of time. Farrin was determined to be the best. A silver medal wouldn't do. He had to know that no matter what threat sought to rend the world, he would be the most able to face it, but the hero's journey wasn't one taken alone. He would need allies even if he was shooting for the top spot. As fast as Farrin was, he couldn't be everywhere at once. Helping others break their limits and reach their potential was all part of the process that was making the world a safer place. She might not have realized it yet, but Jun broke one of those limits and took another massive step toward reaching her full potential.

This might have been one of the first times Jun took his advice. Usually, if he said she should try Thing A, she dug her heels to defend Thing B. Their approaches and methodology were rarely aligned, even if their goals were often. Two roads to the same destination. If this worked, however, maybe she might come around to trying things out a little differently in the times ahead.
Farrin watched as the gems alit with radiant power. The air throughout USJ swelled with heat, an oppressive power that was felt far before it was seen. Beads of sweat raced down Farrin's back as Jun's many emotions coalesced and magnified. The lights around each gem danced and merged into a singular beam that forced Farrin to shield his eyes as the volatile power reached its pinnacle, then settled into a very Jun-like shape.
The USS Annihilation. A visage of naval superiority. Okay, not USS on account of not being a United States ship, but Farrin couldn't help but label it as such the moment he saw it. Part ghost ship, part Destroyer. It flaunted its magnificent power, then disappeared.
"Holy shite," Farrin muttered, lowering his arm to watch the display before the ship faded, then he jogged over to Jun. "Yuh' alright, lass?" He asked, dropping to a knee beside her.
Smashing the ceiling threatened to cave the whole house in. That's what it was to break one's limits. An exhausting effort. Sleep was a rare luxury for Farrin, but on the night of his class with Stellar, even Farrin had gotten a solid eight hours in. Hopefully, Jun was just tired from the effort. Immensely powerful and incredibly dangerous. One of Kenta's gel globs splattered against the closest of the creatures, and just as planned, it was entirely restrained. The metal chain that was its left arm was stuck against its body, and its stumpy legs were glued to the ground. The second glob, however, only managed to restrict the other's target's movement. Its legs were locked in place, but the massive, heavy chain was free. It whipped the appendage Kenta's way, and the air cracked like a whip as it snapped at the gel hero.
It was time for a little teamwork. Easy enough with Kenta. Farrin threw a temporal deceleration field up to intercept the chain, heading Kenta's way and exposing the creature. He yanked a window open, now Kenta only needed to take advantage and leap on through: in this instance that meant running the pain train through the monster.
"Hit it!" He shouted while falling through the air after his last evasive maneuver, and then his attention turned back to his attacker.
He drew its chain back after the previous attack and whipped at Farrin again. And again, the time-turner dodged. He spun, mid-air, and found footing on the large appendage. He beamed down the chain and delivered another kick against the creature's face, lobbing it back several meters.
Farrin joined the beast. Another chain snapped against Farrin's back. Pain lanced his nerves and seared up his spine as the boy flew and smashed into a nearby building. A second wave of pain followed the first as he broke through a wall, leaving a crater in the building's side. It was like being whipped a hundred times in a blink. Heavy, serrated metal slashed and tore. His suit ate the brunt of the blow, and still, Farrin felt beads of blood racing down his back.
"What the fookin hell are these thing?" He asked through grit teeth.
He pushed against a tile floor, dislodging himself from the dresser he landed in. It was one of the newer apartment buildings, and a woman screamed at the sight. A man grabbed her arm and ran her out the front door into the hallway. Good, they were smart.
Farrin marched back out of the crater and armed his linear cannons with the flick of his wrists. The creature that had swiped him out of the air was lashing at Kenta now. Maybe a little ranged game would resolve the conflict sooner. He aimed with his cannons and fired.

They flashed before Farrin's eyes like a pick-your-path novel adapted into a film. Innumerable responses all waited with bated breath for this choice. Which thread would he tug on and make a reality of? The conversational ping-pong would take on a life of its own. The butterfly flapped its wings, and maybe Jun found the answers she was looking for, or, hell, maybe she went all supervillain and tried to blow the building apart. Unlikely, but time had taught Farrin nothing was impossible.
Part of him wanted to explain how the six steps might still be applicable. Another part said let it rest. She knew the steps, so whether or not she stuck to them for guidance was entirely her choice. He grabbed at one particular thread and tugged.
"Yuh think maybe yer' thinkin' too much? Sometimes, we get in our own way. Chronokinesis dun' work exactly like yer quirk, but when I make me' fields, I start by shapin' em in the ol' noggin. I tried doin' the same wit' a new move–ta' force two fields tagether n' it never worked. Durin' the class, though, I stopped thinkin' so hard about it n' just let meself feel the end goal I was goin' fer, n' trusted me' quirk n' instincts ta' make it happen."
No plan survives first contact with the enemy and all that. An oddly applicable statement here. Except the enemy was yourself. You can walk into that scrap with every strategy under the sun prepared, but sometimes you need to double down on good ol' muscle memory and let your body take the wheel. Overthink and you could slow yourself down. That split-second lag between deciding and acting on it could cost you the fight. Translated to supermove practice, well, commit too hard to what makes sense in your head, and you might create some lag with your quirk. Let your quirk and your gut do the thinking. Your body will know what to do. Hopefully.
"I haven't figured me' move out exactly, either. Like I said before, I jus' made some progress on it, but I couldn't really visualize it until I stopped thinkin so hard on how it should work. Like, maybe insteada' tryin ta' picture yer' construct, see if you can trust yer quirk ta' do that part for you. You tell it you need two constructs tagether, n' see what it chooses rather than lockin' in on what you think that should look like."
It wasn't easy advising on someone else's quirk—props to UA's faculty and the many other hero teachers worldwide for that. But maybe his two cents would help. The plateau could be a real pain in the ass to bypass. Jun was capable, though; that much had been made clear enough. She would figure this out.

If you grabbed the gun by its barrel, which was facing upward, and assuming one could lift the big fella, it could certainly be used as a ginormous bludgeon. Somehow, Farrin doubted this was what Jun was going for. It fit the Jun motif, naval equipment, and the like, but it was trying too hard to be two things fighting itself to take proper shape and form rather than building something synergistic and new.
Then it exploded.
Farrin shielded his eyes with an arm, and shrapnel blew by. A few sharps of the construct tore at his gym uniform, revealing the black of his hero outfit below, minus the waist cape. He typically wore those protective layers beneath his clothing, and the explosion firmly justified that decision.
The winds whipped at his hair, then settled. "Well, that was certainly somethin, though I'm guessin' no' quite what yuh were goin' for," he said, his thumb and forefinger cupping his chin. "Maybe take it back ta' basics? I'm guessin' she said this ta' yer group as well, but Stellar dropped some six steps ta' got through when formin' yer move. Inspiration, understandin, scope, feelin, actualization, n' perfection," he counted them off.
"What's the inspiration 'ere? Yuh dun' need ta' actually answer me, but cling back onta' that, then go through the steps again in yer head. I've been workin on me' supermove since you n' I met, actually. Earlier than that if I'm bein' honest, n' I always came up short, but I made some progress the day o' me class wit' her n' I think focusin' on those steps helped me visualize what I needed ta feel n' do ta finally make some progress."
It was a mouthful, and he was no expert in this regard, but maybe it would help. Or maybe not. Something was better than nothing. If the six steps were useless to Jun, well, that was one avenue they would know wasn't worth exploring further. Victory could be found even in the most profound failures.

Farrin heard Stellar had run a few of those super move classes; clearly, something had stuck with Jun. Motivation comes in many shapes. It belonged even if it wasn’t clear where the piece fit in the puzzle. So here she was, searching… thoroughly like blasting the whole mountainous zone apart.
“Yeah, no worries, lass. Sounds a little similar ta’ some issues I was havin wit’ me own move. Tryin’ ya’ push two opposites together ta’ make somethin new,” he started to explain. “I got a start on it, but haven’t perfected me move either. This, however, might present an opportunity ta try somethin new meself.”
With Sada still wandering Eastern Europe, Farrin had relied on the school to heal his wounds. Troublesome when he was pushing the boundaries with his preliminary license. That’s when the old seed finally blossomed. In his youth, when Farrin was probing the metaphysical boundaries of his quirk, there were many other uses he tried his hand at that proved impossible. Physics walled off many of these theories. Maybe, with the help of some artillery, he could bring a few of those walls down.
There was still work to be done on the super move he was developing from his class with Stellar, but that didn't mean he couldn't work on something else. What was Chronokinesis if he couldn't multitask with a few projects?

That is, hitting the plateau and never moving beyond it. Farrin spent many nights speeding around UA's track, pushing himself to run faster. His calves tightened, his feet pounded the ground, and his arms swung in perfect sync with the opposite legs to build the most momentum he could, but no matter how hard he pushed his quirk and body, he couldn't move any faster. So, when Jun shot him a text asking for help, saying no simply wasn't an option.
"Hang on ta' the glory at my right hand," he sang, then whistled along with the oldie blasting from his earbud.
The chorus picked up only a few seconds later as he navigated across the gravel pathway and turned a corner, back onto some pavement before approaching the USJ. An explosive cacophony swiftly overpowered the thrum of the guitar in his ear. Thunder struck and stone quaked. When he entered, it was a somewhat familiar scene.
Well, he had never really watched Jun blow a bunch of stone pillars apart quite like this, but maybe it was fitting, given their first conversation. He pulled the earbud out and whistled, watching as Jun made pebbles of mountains.
"I think yuh got 'em, lass," he said, half a laugh clinging to his words.
He had just walked into an aerial bombardment, or so it seemed. The stony debris was strewn across the USJ, even raining into the other environments. Someone was going to have a fun time cleaning the place up. If only he could rewind time.
"So, eh, wanna tell me what it is yuh need help wit'?" He shouted in case her hearing was impacted by the consecutive booms.

Every blow landed against the training bot like a hammer. Farrin swung one left jab after another, thrust his left arm up, and caught his robotic opposition in a headlock from behind for some dirty boxing. He thrust his fist into the machine's jaw and, in a blink, reduced it to bolts and scrap metal strewn across the grassy patch in the training field.
"Yuh' see, without boxin' gloves, yuh have less mass ta' cover yer' faces in a traditional boxin' stance, so instead, we're keepin' our left arms out n' ready. We intercept incomin' blows, then probe wit' the same hand fer' weakness, or grab 'em like I jus showed yuh'. After that, yuh' bring the hammer down," he explained the basics of dornálaíocht, Irish bare-knuckle boxing.
It was a firm foundation atop which he built his Emerald Fist. Farrin was in the third-year class and had long ago earned his reputation as one of the school's most capable hand-to-hand combatants. When he first passed through UA's gates, he was surprised by how many of his peers weren't already well-versed in the art of boxing or at least some similar fighting ability. Now, he took it upon himself to teach as many others as possible. The more fundamentals his peers and younger cohorts were solid on, the greater the chance they would go the distance, which meant more heroes patrolling the streets in a few years.
"Now, eh, you two," he pointed to the closest of the small gathering, "why dun' yuh give it a go n' see if yuh can replicate what I jus did. We'll take it easy at first, then kick up the intensity as yuh all acclimate."
Teaching people, plural, was not his strongest suit. It was different than handling others in a one-on-one scenario. But he would give it a go. Even those who laughed at his odd accent shut their yaps when the fists were flying. They respected his abilities. Hopefully, that would see at least a few of them committed.

Apparently, Kei had already partaken in a few of the sports festival's challenges, but the ol' time-turner managed to drag him out into the field again. A combat challenge. Two on two.
"Like I said, lad, no need ta' put yerself in harm's way," he explained again.
He said as much when he first asked Kei–that he was happy to tackle both opponents. If Kei really felt outmatched, he could walk right off the edge of the arena and leave it to Farrin. In truth, the young time-turner wouldn't mind a two-v-one scrap to really push himself, but he knew Kei wouldn't walk away like that. Still, the option was there.
"Let me hold their attention, then make yer' move," he offered, eyeing the opposition.
One was a large muscular fella with long white hair; looked as though he chewed screws and benched tanks or some shite. The other boy's physique was mostly hidden beneath a large black coat and baggy shorts. He wore his confidence with a pearly smile spread from ear to ear. Their quirks were a mystery, which only made the challenge more realistic. You never knew what quirks you might run into out in the field. In the field wasn't Kei's place, though; for that reason, Farrin would keep a little extra attention on the lad.
