This is Yaoyao. Yaoyao likes her boyfriend very much. Yaoyao is currently kissing her boyfriend, which she also likes very much, as luck would have it. In fact, she leans into him just a little, safe in the arms of maybe the only person in the world that she’s ever trusted to catch her if she were to fall.
Unfortunately for Yaoyao, right after that kiss (which is, as they most often are, a damn good kiss in her opinion) comes chaos.
Actually, absolute pandemonium might be more accurate. Squawks, squeaks, honks, barks, hisses, yowls, and just about every other ‘domestic animal in distress’ noise imaginable erupts from the open windows of the quaint little pet shop nearby - the very pet store they were meant to be entering right about now.
Holy crap. Yaoyao whistles to herself and slowly turns to look back at Kei. And alright, animals have never exactly liked her much nor been Yaoyao’s biggest fans by any stretch of the imagination, but all of this? From all the way over here?
“Whatever you’re thinking,” Yaoyao starts, putting a hand over her heart, “I swear that I have nothing to do with this. It wasn’t me. … Probably.”

The helmet she stayed late at the garage polishing? Propped loosely on the handlebar. The motorcycle she’s poured her soul into for the past several months? Never heard of her. Kei Hada makes a bee-line for her, and the rest of the world may as well not exist for all the attention that Yaoyao cares to spare it the second her baobao is within her sights.
(But then again, what else is new?)
Yaoyao smiles, slow and pleased, the way she always does when Kei reaches for her first. “Hey, birdie.” Then, because she remains a menace at her core, she turns her head just before contact — transforming the intended cheek kiss into one that lands instead against her smiling lips. She keeps it chaste, of course, since 1) her baobao can get anxious about his public image and 2) they’ve got things to do today. Can’t be getting too distracted.
… Okay, maybe they can spare a couple minutes for her to preen. And preen she does, folding her arms atop the refurbished Hayama’s matte black handlebars as Kei circles the electric speed demon his girlfriend has proudly and (mostly) single-handedly given a second lease on life. “You like? Found the bones of her in a junkyard, rusting away like a forgotten dream. Her model went out of production over half a century ago, and plenty of modern machinery’s gotten to the point where old electric bikes like her ran on engines too obsolete to keep up. Was a pain and a half making one work, but you know me, I love a challenge."
And here she reaches a hand out to snag her boy by one of the loops of his jeans, lightly tugging him in closer with a mischievous glimmer in her eye: "'N I do love to work for it. Every once in a while, that is.” |

At this hour on a weekday afternoon, the dojo tended to get pretty busy — kids coming for after school classes, mostly, but some older people too. Just looking to get some stress out or some training in. That kind of thing. Unfortunately, all that hustle and bustle ends up further within the dojo, not in the entrance area… where Yaoyao hasn’t moved in the last 20 minutes. She’s stuck in a stalemate. Holding a very small, very fragile, and very squishy baby out at arms’ length, fighting every single impulse to chuck the thing away from her at mach speed and also run as quickly as possible in the other direction at the same time.
Small children, Yaoyao has decided, are absolutely fucking terrifying.
And that’s coming from an unrepentant menace who usually isn’t ever afraid of… anything. But children? Small ones? Really small, really squishy, very pink ones? Horrifying. Nightmare inducing, even. Sweet f■ck on a stick, she doesn’t know if she’s ever been this stressed in her life. Or how long it’s been, for that matter, since she sent that SOS out to Jun only to look up and find the baby attempting to crawl right off the edge of the counter, sans a single care in the world about its own general mortality.
The sheer panic that’d flooded Yaoyao had made her drop her phone and lunge to catch the toppling infant, completely forgetting about the fact that, oh yeah, she could have just made herself extra limbs to do the catching…. instead of no doubt adding a brand new crack to the cheapskate’s excuse for a mosaic that her phone screen is gradually turning into with every passing day.
She hasn’t even moved to pick the phone up. She’s too afraid of dropping the miniature human being. Or holding it too tight. Or moving it too much. Or - anything, really.
“What am I supposed to do with you, exactly?” Asks Yaoyao.
”Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba!” Says the small child unhelpfully, with a toothless little grin. The creature is doing its level best to try and hit Yaoyao in the face, directly on the nose, in time with each one of its gibberish little vocalizations. VRRRROOOOMMMM.
The rumbling growl of a motorcycle engine cuts through the quaint bustle of the city streets, catching brief glances from sidewalk passersby as the culprit decelerates, going from a tear to a prowl and finally rolling to a stop just outside a local pet store as its rider cuts the engine. The motorcycle itself is an ancient model, albeit customized — an electric Hayama from a hundred years ago, refurbished in black and purple and restored with months of painstaking hard work and care on her owner’s part. Even the engraving on the side of the tank glints like new: Tsukuyomi, in bold, metallic silver lettering.
(Like new, because, well… it is. This marks the end of Tsukuyomi’s re-maiden voyage, and the first time the refurbished Hayama has blessed Tokyo’s streets since she was discovered and brought in for restoration.)
The rider kicks down the kickstand and leans back on the seat to unbuckle their helmet. The sleek black polycarbonate cradles a tinted visor that hides its wearer’s features from view; at least until the helmet is pulled up and off to reveal: first, a tumbling waterfall of glossy ink-dark hair interspersed with an underside of vibrant purple. And second: an award-worthy resting bitch face that would send shivers down the spine of even a seasoned war veteran or two.
Steely milk-light lavender eyes sweep across the crowd, searching, until they finally land on exactly what (more specifically, who) they’d been surveying the throng of people for. That stone cold visage melts instantly. The furrowed brow softens, the narrowed eyes brighten, and pursed lips spread into a delighted grin—
Yaoyao lifts a hand high, waves, and projects her voice to be heard over top of the bustling people filling the city sidewalk.
“Yo, baobao! There you are — hope we didn’t keep you waitin’ too long!” |

It’s an understatement to say that Yaoyao’s a person of extremes, burning with ice cold or searing heat in turns. She can be one tough nut to crack — hard to really get close to, but also someone you definitely don’t want to call your enemy, especially considering her nasty habit of going directly for the jugular when cornered. That’s mostly figurative, though. Mostly. At least 50%. In summary... under an icy layer of apathy and general disdain: she’s mischievous. She’s chaotic. She doesn’t waste time on things that don't interest her. She’s got a short fuse and a big temper. She’s violent. She is, on many subjects, morally apathetic. She’s protective of her own. She’s fiercely loyal, and once you’re locked into that loyalty system, would commit actual war crimes and walk across the entirety of Japan barefoot and in the rain to make you happy or keep you safe. She has always been Yāojīng Suzui, save an incident in her first year of high school that prompted a legal name change and an overhaul of her entire appearance, style, and personality. She was born in Wuhan, China, moved to Medellin, Colombia when she was 10 years old, and moved to Japan when she was 15. Fukuoka for high school where she met her current boyfriend, and then Tokyo for university. As far as her opinion goes, that’s all you need to know. Of course, you can ask. Yaoyao has few soft spots, and any chinks that do exist in her armor are tucked safely behind boundaries guarded by towering walls, steel wires, and vicious dogs even quicker to bite than the mistress herself. Which is a statement in and of itself. And that’s if she deigns to decide you’re worth the time and effort of letting you talk to her in the first place, which… unless there’s something of import or interest to her involved, people seldom are. All in all, just one of the leading mythic b-----s of UA university, back for another year of terrorizing teachers and raising hell. Y’know, after over two straight years of being friends, you’d think Juju would be a little more used to Yaoyao’s particular brand of ‘I WILL either make you take care of yourself or do it FOR you since you’re incapable of it’ friendship.
No dice though. Juju still gets surprised about normal, mundane shit, like being dragged to a shoe store (to replace her raggedy-ass track shoes that are a few steps off from falling apart entirely), or being brought food (water, protein bars, some snacks Yaoyao made before they left the city), or even just being afforded basic decency (being slathered with sunscreen so that her pale, hermit, ginger ass won’t burn to a crisp in the thin mountain air this close to the cursed, stupid autumn sun).
Still. It’s… nice. Bein’ out of the city, out of the loud and the crowded and the smog. Bein’ out here with someone she likes as much as she likes Juju. Only thing that could’ve made it even better is if Baobao’d been able to tag along, but it’s okay. He’s busy, it’s only one weekend apart, and she’s the lucky biii… broad… with a monopoly on him most of the time anyway. One weekend won’t be the end of the world.
By the end of their hike, rounding the final bend, the sun’s slipping low on the horizon and Yaoyao’s gotten enough energy out that it’s Lili in the pilot’s seat, humming soft and sweet and hand in hand with Jun as they descend back into town. Maybe it’s odd still, for Jun, seeing such a different personality come over the tall, imposing frame that Yaoyao inhabits. Or maybe she’s used to it by now. Either way:
“It’s just about dinner time, now,” Lili notes, turning to offer Jun a smile. “Why don’t we go back and shower, rest a little, then see about finding something to eat when Yaoyao wakes up?”

It’s an understatement to say that Yaoyao’s a person of extremes, burning with ice cold or searing heat in turns.
