In a way, the most interesting part of any op was the part where she had to plan it all out. There was a sense of tranquility about meticulous planning which tickled both sides of her world, like a puzzle that had to be solved, all the right pieces had to fall into place to get the perfect result. As a detective, it meant piecing it all together, figuring out the missing link that took down the entire house of cards around the person trying to hide their nefarious deeds from the law. It was working the darkness into the light, figuring out who the mystery person was behind it all. Her work as an assassin, though, it wasn’t a whodunit, they knew who had to go, but the puzzle was a case of deconstructing every single part of their target and figuring out the one weak spot inside the design, that one moment that she could strike to maximum effect, where nobody will even know until it’s too late… Most times she did it solo, but even someone like her needed a support structure. People that were loyal to the cause, or otherwise would be loyal for a price or a solution. And the Stingray was the kind of place that a person can find the right kind of people. “Rum Coke on the rocks.” she spoke after gesturing the bartender, taking a seat in her usual spot at the far end of the bar. Only her voice betrayed her identity, her urban way of dress making her come across boyish and anything but the person they were in the other world. Whilst she wasn’t afraid people would recognize that other person here, she was making sure to avoid bad luck. Looking around, she’d glance up with a small smile that was as good as a handshake in this placee. “Business going good, Z?” she’d ask an idle question. Tag: Zane

The hero backup was possibly in the most glowing terms a storm unleashed in a way that she had never experienced before. Dani had worked with heroes, but this was probably the closest she had gotten to actually being in the path of one doing what they did best. She wasn’t certain whether the chill up her spine was the ice around them, or the sight of them dismantling every remaining crook in the room with ruthless expeditiousness. The neurons in the back of her brain firing trying to imagine what would happen if Dani herself was in the shoes of one of those crooks, trying to take down someone with powers and skill like that. Dani wasn’t so arrogant to assume that her neck wouldn’t end up shattered within seconds if this hero felt like it. The difference between death and a single night in the hospital seemingly being their whimsy, and better judgement. “We had the situation under control…” Dani grumbled as the dust… or better said, snow… settled around the building. Despite what the crooks had destroyed in their last stand, the hero had kept things relatively pristine by comparison, which to Dani only told that they had held back to such a degree that they could merely do the minimum required for a situation to avoid any sort of collateral, living or otherwise. Her colleagues moved into the apartment with their stunners drawn, making sure to quickly put in chains all the crooks that the hero had taken down. Unlike Dani, they did little in hiding how shaken they were by the situation, one that had felt significantly longer than it had actually been. “I’ll uh… Do a sweep of the roof.” Dani recused themselves from the apartment, poorly hiding her embarrassment. Dani kept her weapon trained on the target, and whilst she wasn’t weak by any stretch of the imagination, the rifle wasn’t exactly built to be held up without any support. For now, she tried her best to simply keep it up. Two-minutes until alarm. Whilst the boy seemed innocent and even cutesy in a way, the subconscious recoiled and hissed at their presence. They were a threat, a big one, one big enough that the sight of being aimed at by a rifle wasn’t something that triggered their flight response, nor their fight response. They were surprisingly blasé, and that just made her worry all the more… Despite her reputation as ruthless, she had made it equally her reputation that she was clean and thorough, a scalpel rather than a broadsword, one that was precise even when it had to look brutal. And it was clear this kid wasn’t part of the target. “I’ll assess that…” she calmly answered at them claiming they didn’t mean any harm, it was part cop and part assassin talking, and equal parts mistrust. But their attitude and non-action allowed her to quickly sling the rifle onto her back, before taking out a handgun to train it onto their center mass as she stepped closer to them, if only because the least dangerous escape route was exactly behind them. Annoyingly, this all cut into the time she could take to clean up after her, take down her rifle, dump it in a specific spot, disappear into the night, every ticking second meant less clean results. “I’d appreciate it if you moved aside…” she spoke, calmly like a flight attendant trying to get around a passenger who took their time stuffing their luggage away. Her watch buzzed underneath her jacket… Ninety seconds left. Tag: Arc Bishop

Of course despite their best attempts, things always had to get complicated when they least wanted it to be… Bunch of underestimated quirk users deciding to play rough and not wanting to play nice criminal and let themselves get cuffed without a fight was one thing… … Heroes with attitudes stomping up the stairway to save the day like some sort of shining example of heroism and bravery was probably an even more annoying thing for someone like Dani. And she was the first to admit it was a petty grudge to have, but after so many times where they did all the legwork, and a hero got to smile at the camera for a candid interview about stopping the villains again, she got a little annoyed with the concept of it all. The rookies of course were all starry eyed, probably getting to see their first hero up close in ways that they either couldn’t or wouldn’t want to do. Even the old timers seemed somewhat relieved at what they assumed was much needed assistance on a trickier situation than expected. Dani, though, was about as impressed as a kid that got new socks on their birthday rather than the shiny new game console they’d been screaming about for the past year. “I got a feeling they’re not looking at freezing, lady.” Dani called out with a hefty dose of attitude ill-befitting the high pressure situation they were in. In fact as Dani leaned around the corner, she shot a stunner at door-splinter-man that got him to stop and think about their life mistakes… Only to be pulled to safety by their buddy, whose hands were on fire and probably looking on creating a BBQ special out of them… Tag: Shirayuki Mai

Dani let out a soft breath as she listened to the voice on the other end of the line. All of it seemingly uninteresting drivel of a lover who messed up one too many time and had forgotten the tenets of healthy relationships too often. Just for that alone Dani felt beholden to put them out of their misery, both to take away their awkward put on shame and give a little bit of satisfaction for the many jilted lovers they had played. Instead her rifle was trained on his chest for a different reason, but ultimately the same effect. The raindrops bouncing off the cold polymer her eyes were trained on the target in the same way that she had done so many times before, years of training and conditioning to keep a steady breath and merely focusing on the dot rather than what the dot was aimed at. “Target in sight, copy for call.” she spoke into her comms to the handler that was probably on the other side of the country relaxing after dinner with a family which was oblivious to their other job. Finding the target had been easy enough, a politicians son who loved flaunting his money and family connections to the many hostesses around Tokyo. Telling them all fancy stories of being the one, being taken out of the excruciating grind of the business, only to of course find the next pretty face. From the few details Dani had dug up in her planning, she knew enough that they weren’t even the main target. Whoever their father had pissed off, they were petty enough to hurt them like this. What she was about to do was a gross injustice even in the dubious world of underworld getting-even. The other Dani would hate her guts for even doing it, but not even that side knew anything else than to never question a target. “Copy call, Daybreak.” a male voice spoke from the other side of the country, the feed of her scope fed back to ensure her job was done in the bespoke manner that was necessary. The trigger pull was soft and crisp, the movement of the recoil caught by her shoulder and bipod. Almost like a cruel artpiece the target slumped into their seat, a singular bullet through the heart. “You can go to ground, now, good evening Daybreak.” the voice spoke before the call dropped. With trained precision and focus she started packing the tools of her trade, she probably had three minutes before the bodyguards would find the body, but she’d be long gone. At least, that was until her ears picked up sound of movement behind her. Too big to be cats that like to hang out on rooftops, she moved her body and trained her weapon at the figment in the dark. If they were a bodyguard, they were fair game. But she merited herself on cleanliness, so she sure as hell hoped it wasn’t a witness… Tag: Arc Bishop

Almost with the precision of elite commandos, the five of them made it up the staircase quickly and discreetly. Even with the juniors seeming anxious for being in their first big moment, Dani and the two veterans would do the legwork, they were there to protect their backs and mostly watch and learn from the big boys. “You two, eyes front, ears all around.” She spoke to the juniors as they had made it to the top, one of them covering the stairway down and the other covering the other angles on the floor beyond the target apartment. They had all grabbed their stunners, modern style stun guns that would incapacitate opponents without killing them. In a quirk based society, they were one of their most trusted tools to prevent casualties, although they were still limited against the rare situations of potent quirk users. But by all accounts, these were nothing but lowlife crooks who spent as much time behind bars as they did in the normal world. Stuff that their stunners could deal with, and something they wouldn’t have to fall back upon their more lethal backup firearms for… Letting in a deep breath, Dani took the most dangerous spot right in front of the door as the two veterans flanked the doorway. Taking out the warrant, her eyes locked in on the business part of her job. “Tokyo Police Department, we have a warrant to search this apartment. Open up, or we will reserve the right to do it ourselves.” she called out only a second after one of her partners knocked loudly on the door, loud enough to wake up anybody inside, and probably everyone else in the apartment building. Silence followed, a few seconds later Dani went to raise her hand for action. But then noise started happening on the other side of the door, panicked footsteps stomping around, and none of them making it towards the door… It was all the reason she and the officers needed to kick down the door. Her partner lined up, but then her gut acted up again. “Dodge!” she called out, her instincts pushing her into her partner and out of the way. Because a split second later the front door had turned into a hail of splinters as the door and part of the doorway were removed entirely by whoever was inside. And it was clear they weren’t playing around, nor interested in letting them in. Tag: Shirayuki Mai

Sipping on her morning latte, she and a few others squatted around the back entrance of an apartment building looking like the usual types of unemployed that had nothing better to do than hang around until they heard of a place to get day labour. Of course, the five of them were hardly that, rather they were undercover and watching the dew slowly trickle down the side of the concrete buildings waiting on the inevitable call to action. They had been planning this for months now, meticulous old-school policework to track down a small time gang of dope pushers and purse snatchers that had been terrorizing this particular ward of Tokyo with efficiency that made it obvious that they were a small spider in a very large web. Taking down these clowns, though, would bring them one step further to the top, and Dani felt the hunger she’d usually feel when something big was about to happen. This case was in her hands, and whilst she wasn’t the type that was ambitious to get off the streets and into a cushy office job, this was a chance to establish her name, and get the right people to notice her talents. … Of course, it figured that on this day specifically there had been a call from up top that they had dispatched a handful of heroes to assist them. Heroes that would undoubtedly not play backup, but rather jump headfirst into the action looking to bust some heads themselves and push the people that did all the work into a tiny byline. Drinking the remainder of her latte, she put it into a trashcan before facing her colleagues. “So, we’re just going to sit here and wait for the heroes to steal our thunder, because the way I see it, we’ll have these chumps in cuffs before we know it.” Dani spoke with the self-confidence and cockiness that she had become somewhat notorious for. Fortunately for her, people found it endearing, especially because she tended to back up her attitude with great police work, and a tendency to be right. Taking out her sidearm, she did the routine checks before stuffing it into its holster, swapping it for the safer option in the form of a taser. “I know what I’m going for, how about we get the article cover for a change?” she’d propose with that confident smile, removing the ballcap that oppressed her girlish features. First her partners reacted laconically, a few jokes where bandied about as they assumed it was the usual semi-nervous banter ahead of a door getting kicked in. But they knew Dani was serious, and whilst firstly it was a hotshot agreeing with her, making a duo of rookies follow suit not wanting to look bad, before eventually the old heads relented and made the party complete. Dani nodded at them all as they made their way into the back entrance, slowly moving up the staircase she pressed her earpiece. “We saw some movement, we’re heading in before the targets get spooked.” Dani told a white lie to the police backup half a block away, who chittered something about protocol which Dani’s subconscious filtered out. “I’ll take point, let the kids stack the staircase.” she whispered, removing her jacket to reveal her body armour with “POLICE” emblazoned both front and back. This was going to be routine, after all, the stirring in her gut meant that they were on the cusp of something big, and this bust was going to crack everything open… Tag: Shirayuki Mai

Dani’s personality can be described as… complicated. When it boils down to it, they are a kind and warm individual who will do their best for everyone and try to get to the bottom of things without relenting. They are principled and focused, with strong personal discipline to back up their attitude. Whilst still being very social and outgoing towards the people around them, befitting someone that has worked their way up in the world through hard work and determination. But there’s the other side of the coin, when the phone rings and she gets an order, they will with unerring focus and discipline actively pursue that task even if her deeds are the antithesis of who they seemingly are, they don’t refuse orders, they don’t seem to have any moral issue with the work she does, she simply acts in the full devotion that whatever she is tasked to do is something that has to be done. That makes Dani a person of two clear personalities, both being her true self and neither being put on or a front for the world. The detective, who seeks to bring criminals to justice and never relents at doing her job or doing good by her loved ones… And the assassin, who will in cold blood take out anybody whether they’re criminals, politicians, heroes or villains. It is the question which part of her reigns supreme if there were a day where they’d be required to choose between both duties. [attr="class","body"]
[attr="class","header2"]APPEARANCE » HEIGHT: 5ft4 » WEIGHT: 145lbs » EYE COLOR: Brown » HAIR COLOR: Brown » SKIN COLOR: Southern European » FACE CLAIM NAME: Outis » FACE CLAIM SERIES: Limbus Company Dani is a young woman of average height, with amber eyes and dark brown hair. What makes her stand out the most in general is her South European complexion, looking perpetually tanned amongst the denizens of Tokyo. Keeping her hair short, depending on the day and the angle she can come across as boyish. A notable physical trait other than her complexion are the scars covering her arms, the excuse of which being a vague explanation of past trauma and her work in the field as a police officer, it is of course a byproduct of her upbringing and work for the shadowy organisation called The Institute. Generally speaking, she carries her scars well as she tends to wear long sleeves and avoids wearing dresses and other ‘revealing’ outfits that show off more, but mostly out of a disinterest in wearing them and a comfort with long clothes, rather than shame or avoiding showing her scars. Throughout day-to-day life she tends to wear her work clothing, or something visually adjacent to it, only occasionally wearing casual clothing if the situation requires it. Under her guise of Daybreak, she tends to wear more varied clothing, including many job related outfits that make approaching a target easier. At times she emphasises her more boyish looks to further her goals and confuse anyone investigating her. [attr="class","body"]
[attr="class","header2"]HISTORY The woman named Dani Shirai has a past shrouded in mystery. The most that is known of her is that she is both of Spanish and Japanese descent, but lost her parents at a young age, or better said her parents seemed amenable to lose her without thinking twice about it. It’s a harsh reality that not every parent cares for their children, especially when they are born without the ability to gain a quirk in a world where near enough everyone is born with some form of quirk, a quirkless child can for some feel more a curse, some sort of punishment from a higher power. For Dani, her knowledge starts as one of many quirkless children being fostered by The Institute, a shadowy organisation that takes care of children, albeit very much not for purely altruistic reasons. She is given an upbringing, she has many siblings all from different parts of the world, and she is never without affection from the many adults in her life that take the time out of their schedules to teach and nurture her. Life in the Institute is good, and in return she is only expected to learn all they have to teach. Which range from the ordinary like languages, to learning how to take up different identities at the drop of a hat and learning how to protect herself. And eventually, as she was deemed both old and capable enough to go out into the world, kill for them. They aren’t taught to ask why, only to act when they do. In exchange they have total freedom to live their lives however they want, they can be anything from pro heroes to villains to simply living an ordinary mundane life away from any danger or excitement, the only rule is that The Institute’s request always come first, and that The Institute’s existence is protected. Inability, non-desire, or failure to achieve set goals are all dealt with in a swift and deadly manner. For the sake of her personal backstory as far as her cover is concerned, she originally hails from the city of Madrid, had a troubled abusive upbringing, spent a few years in the armed forces before traveling to Tokyo and joining the police force. It is deliberately kept reasonably vague and without real connections. For Dani, ‘graduation’ brought her to the city of Tokyo, joining its sizable police force and throughout the years becoming respected for her attitude as well as her exemplary work and talent at policework, she becomes detective by the age of twenty-four, often liaising with pro heroes in their pursuit for various types of criminals. Under her codename “Daybreak” she is equally capable and deadly. [attr="class","body"]

[attr="class","header2"]SKILLS SKILL NAME: Marksmanship SKILL RANK: C+ SKILL DESCRIPTION: When you’re part of The Institute, the ability to fight with all forms of weaponry is essential. So she has been given a lot of training in the handling of firearms of various shapes and sizes, but more specifically handguns and other more easily concealable and ‘discreet’ firearms. That isn’t to say that she’s not equally deadly with an assault rifle or machinegun, it is just that ultimately speaking it’s something overly unwieldy and only to be used when for some reason they find themselves in a firefight. Amongst her peers on the police force, she is an exemplary markswoman and passes her regular tests with flying colours, even providing training to police students and her colleagues on the side. SKILL NAME: Hand-to-Hand combat SKILL RANK: B SKILL DESCRIPTION: Having undergone extensive training from a very young age, she has been taught a combination of multiple martial arts with the explicit goal for her to fight as efficiently and deadly as possible. Whilst she is fully able to fight in self defence and to disarm and de-escalate a fight, ultimately her abilities are focused on taking out the target as quickly and as brutally as possible. As with her firearm training, she provides hand-to-hand combat training to her colleagues on the force, although she significantly tones down and changes her style to something more ‘normal’ and police like, rather than training her colleagues in the art of murder. SKILL NAME: Melee combat SKILL RANK: B SKILL DESCRIPTION: Additionally to her abilities with just her own body as a weapon, she has been trained to be equally capable with all forms of melee weapons ranging from a variety of batons, knives, staves, and even swords to make sure that she can deal with any adversaries in brutally efficient fashion, and leave little in the way of combat weakness, as far as her skills are concerned. [attr="class","body"]
[attr="class","header2"]FLAVOR SKILLS
(i.e. the stuff that doesn’t add mechanical benefit, but is fun to mention) SKILL NAME: Omni-linguist SKILL DESCRIPTION: She has been taught many languages whilst under the foster care of The Institute, she is fluent or very capable in most languages under the sun, which she has used to great effect in both her daily life, as well as working for the institute. SKILL NAME: Mistress of Disguise SKILL DESCRIPTION: As part of her training, but also in general a personal talent. She is very capable of taking up alternative identities and disguises to do her work for The Institute. This includes masking both her ordinary identity, as well as presenting herself as a man for the sake of disguise and throwing off anyone investigating her actions. SKILL NAME: Cooking SKILL DESCRIPTION: She LOVES cooking with a capital L. And whilst she isn’t actively inviting everyone to enjoy her cooking, just know that if she invites you to dinner it both means you’re in for a treat, as well as she clearly seems to like you enough to share her passion with. To her friends and her loved ones, she’ll be exceedingly generous in her cookery.
