[attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] "Of course you're worth looking at." Arc said the words before pausing and seeming to notice how odd that sounded. "Not that it's what matters, but I still want you to know you are very pretty." He added firmly, an obvious smile to his voice as he slowly began to relax a little more and get over his awkwardness with how they met. He glanced out the window for a moment with an odd expression as she mentioned making someone happy, but his voice was humorous as he looked back to her and grinned. "I don't know about that," He mused. "I've done work as a model, so I got the looks, but they're about all I got going for me. Nothing but fluff between my ears, and that gets boring." His tone carried none of the negativity of his words, merely stating it as an amusing fact as he stared at her hands. Part of him was surprised how warm they were, but the thought quickly shifted as he realized that was partially because he never had normal interactions like this in his life. Not for the last five years at least. It made him feel weirdly guilty the more he thought about it, like her hands would get dirty just by touching his or being too close. [attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] Arc smiled as she called his voice pretty, not entirely agreeing himself, but still appreciating her words none the less. He was really enjoying talking to someone normally, let alone someone that didn't immediately insult or tease him for enjoying something. The idea that he could get some of his little friends a good home out of it as well was just the icing on the top. However as she asked if she was pretty, Arc stared at her for a moment feeling embarrassed as his face flushed hot again at the idea of answering such a question, but also not wanting to not answer and hurt her, either. Instead he shoved down his awkwardness and gently put his hands on hers, though he kept his fists closed loosely so she wouldn't be poked by his sharper nails, suddenly rather self-conscious of them. "Very! You're as pretty as you are sweet, like a lil angel, and your style is super cute~" He assured her, dying inside a little at saying his thoughts out loud. "Your hair is really cool too, I like the colors, they're very unique in an elegant way~"[newclass=.alpha]background-color:#444444;padding:20px;width:450px;[/newclass] [newclass=.beta]background-color:#ffffff;color:#444444;padding:20px;line-height:15px;text-align:justify;letter-spacing:2px;word-spacing:1px;[/newclass] Maisie,

[attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] "True." Arc agreed. "Maybe that's why I still talk like this..." He mused a little, referring to his ever-present accent that had somehow barely faded over the years. Then he smiled mischievously for a moment before continuing, this time concentrating and speaking with more typical Japanese pronunciation. "Instead of like this." He grinned as if proud of himself for actually sounding Japanese for once as he finished off his coffee, though he doubted he would ever sound like that naturally no matter how many years passed by. In his heart he was still very much Canadian. "I'll need to introduce you to Suzy then. Tiny thing, three legs, but sassy and likes to sit on your shoulders like a scarf once you win her over. Tuna helps." He rambled a little, averting his gaze as she leaned forward, his face going beet-red once again. "There are a few that don't really do as well as the others, like her." Honestly if his building wasn't so strict with pets he likely would have ended up with an apartment full of cats by now, but he didn't want to give them hope if there was a risk they'd just get kicked back to the street right along with him. Since he could barely take care of himself, he decided giving them no hope was better than fake hope. "There's a pretty young lil guy too, he's with a small group of them but I think he's a runt so they bully him a bit. He's cute though, and his fur is as pretty and soft as a cloud."Arc blinked at her blankly for a moment as she mentioned him saying these things to all girls or just her, but then the blush slowly returned as he took a moment to actually think about what he had said. "Sorry.. I tend to say what comes to mind without considering it might be too blunt..."[newclass=.alpha]background-color:#444444;padding:20px;width:450px;[/newclass] [newclass=.beta]background-color:#ffffff;color:#444444;padding:20px;line-height:15px;text-align:justify;letter-spacing:2px;word-spacing:1px;[/newclass] Maisie,

[attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] Arc smiled and looked into his cup for a moment as he thought about his home overseas. His memory of the streets of his city at night covered in fresh snow and slush were nostalgic and calming. He could almost smell the wet asphalt and crisp air. He took a drink of his coffee and pushed back an odd feeling of homesickness before smiling at her again. "It's really relaxing and I miss it sometimes, the air hurts you in winter... though. At least as north as I lived." He added with a chuckle. "Yeah I'll have to get them something." He agreed, deciding to stop at the store on his way home and grab some wet food. He wouldn't admit how many times those cats had bullied him out of his own lunch. "And if you want cats I could hook you up with nearly any temperament or color.. no fancy breeds really though. Except there is one exotic looking one, I don't know breeds well but he is massive, friendly though if you're nice to him." He chuckled. "They've been there for me too, so it's only fair that I give them some love in return." He blushed as he realized how pathetic that sounded. Being cheered up by stray cats wasn't really something he felt he was supposed to say out loud. "Well I mean... even you wanting to do something is more than a lot of people do, so of course I respect it." He responded casually as if pointing out something that was simply obvious to him. "Thinking the way you do is really admirable."[newclass=.alpha]background-color:#444444;padding:20px;width:450px;[/newclass] [newclass=.beta]background-color:#ffffff;color:#444444;padding:20px;line-height:15px;text-align:justify;letter-spacing:2px;word-spacing:1px;[/newclass] Maisie,

[attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] Arc barely bit back a rather un-manly giggle at her reaction to Whisp's nickname for her, covering his mouth with his fist and struggling to remain silent for a moment before he recovered. "That's really ingenious..." Arc commented as she mentioned wanting to incorporate brail in the design, more so speaking out loud without realizing it as he listened to her. Although she couldn't see it, he was looking at her with an impressed expression. He wasn't smart by any means, but it sounded like a really unique idea, and he was sure it would mean a lot to a lot of people. He smirked and looked away for a second at her nickname but then leaned back in his chair and looked at the ceiling thoughtfully. "Well, I like snow... and frosty mornings in fall. I spent most of my life in Canada, so I suppose that's just the maple syrup in my blood." He mused with a grin. "I love all animals, but I think my favorite are cats. I know most of the stray cats in Tokyo...and I may have given most of them nicknames..." He admitted, pausing and clearing his voice as he suddenly felt embarrassed. "I think it's cool you want to want to make a clothing brand." [attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] "That's.... very debatable." He mused in response to her calling him more established. Considering he had an apartment but could barely afford to keep the lights running because he wasted all of his money on drugs, he wouldn't call himself well established at all. That wasn't something he could admit to her though obviously, so he left it at that. "Maddie is a very cute name, nice fashion sense too~" Arc grinned as Maddie came over, crouching and scratching the dog behind her ears gently with his free hand, though being mindful to use his knuckles so his nails wouldn't scratch her accidentally. "Maisie is a really pretty name too, and I would love to." He added a bit more bashfully as he rose again and accepted her invite, sitting down and taking a sip of his coffee, his face still a little red but sporting a happy grin now. "So Miss Independent, what kind of things do you like?" Arc asked, rather blunt but curious about the little angel that had somehow fallen into his life in an unprecedented way. [newclass=.alpha]background-color:#444444;padding:20px;width:450px;[/newclass] [newclass=.beta]background-color:#ffffff;color:#444444;padding:20px;line-height:15px;text-align:justify;letter-spacing:2px;word-spacing:1px;[/newclass] Maisie ,

[attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] Arc's face once again flushed red as she spoke but he smiled in response this time instead of looking away. Not that she could see. Although he wasn't used to someone this sweet, he was trying hard to adapt. At least she couldn't see how red his face was, so he did have that going for him at least. "I wouldn't think you're annoying. Honestly you seem more mature than me." He smirked, half joking and half honest. He'd been told he had never matured past seventeen mentally, and frankly he rather agreed. His life was a shitshow and he had no backbone to speak of. "If you still want me as a friend, then it doesn't change anything." He added before glancing to her dog finally as he relaxed a little, unable to ignore such a cute animal for long. He had always adored animals, and although he gushed slightly more over cats than he did dogs, he still loved them. "What's your lil pup's name? She's adorable~"[newclass=.alpha]background-color:#444444;padding:20px;width:450px;[/newclass] [newclass=.beta]background-color:#ffffff;color:#444444;padding:20px;line-height:15px;text-align:justify;letter-spacing:2px;word-spacing:1px;[/newclass]

[attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] As she spoke Arc looked at her with a stunned expression for a moment, a blush actually creeping across his face at her words. ~HAH!~ Whisp's internal snicker did little to help as he averted his eyes for a moment embarrassed. He wasn't used to compliments like that, and it took him a quick moment to recover before he was distracted as she mentioned age. It was then that he realized he actually had no idea how old she was. His eyes shifted back toward her and he tilted his head to the side as if trying to guess her age, but honestly he had no idea. She was shorter than him by a good bit, but so were a few people both older and younger than him. Still, he had already given up trying to reason with her. He was still flustered from the compliments a moment before and had no more fight left in him. Instead he simply shook her hand, being gentle out of both reflex and a weird worry about squeezing too hard and hurting her. "I'm fine with being friends. Though I don't know your age," He admitted. "I'm twenty-three, so you know."[newclass=.alpha]background-color:#444444;padding:20px;width:450px;[/newclass] [newclass=.beta]background-color:#ffffff;color:#444444;padding:20px;line-height:15px;text-align:justify;letter-spacing:2px;word-spacing:1px;[/newclass]

[attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] In the end he couldn't win. Maisie outmatched him in persistence, among other things, and he soon found himself backing down as he usually did when facing opposition. He found it hard to think someone could be as kind and sweet as the girl in front of him, and it had him a bit off-balance as he subconsciously feared the sudden drop of an act, followed by the kind of treatment he was more accustomed to. Yet as he finally accepted the money she only smiled at him, no smirk or knife in sight. Faced with such blatant kindness he could only resign himself to whatever fate had in store for him. Arc's eyes widened a little in shock as she responded to his offer, but not with an answer he would have ever seen coming. Yet considering how she had held the upper-hand in the conversation so far, and how unreasonably adorable she looked as she asked him, refusing wasn't really an option. He had already resolved himself to whatever became of their meeting considering what he owed her, but that didn't mean the idea of her having someone like him as a friend didn't stress him out. "I'd love to be your friend, but I'm not worth a paperclip, much less more than you've already given. Friendship is Free." He responded, low-key emphasizing the word 'free' in the hopes she would keep her purse closed this time. "Though, as such, I do have to ask why you would offer that to someone that tried to rob you." He added, his tone a mixture of concern and a little exasperation. "You shouldn't be trusting people like me."[newclass=.alpha]background-color:#444444;padding:20px;width:450px;[/newclass] [newclass=.beta]background-color:#ffffff;color:#444444;padding:20px;line-height:15px;text-align:justify;letter-spacing:2px;word-spacing:1px;[/newclass] Maisie,

[attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] As the Owl stumbled and then began to slip Arc held on tight, but was suddenly distracted by an ominous whirring sound starting up. As his eyes snapped over towards pinky he realized he was looking down the barrel of what he would only call a damn cannon. ~So this is how we die.~ Whisp's sarcasm was met with silence as Arc's brain blanked. Whisp might be right. However, like an angelic torpedo, a singing woman suddenly shot towards him and the Owl, distracting Arc from the deadlock his eyes had on the barrel of death. Without so much as a thought Arc threw out his hand as she reached out and grabbed hold, kicking off of the leg in time with her flying kick and suddenly finding himself tumbling over the floor. As he rolled, he sent one of his red constructs out to try and soften the fall of the woman that had helped him, hopefully returning at least a little of what he owed her. [attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] Arc inched back a little as he noticed her tense up for a moment, suddenly worried now that the shock was over she would be pissed. Frankly she had every right to be. He'd even let her smack him if it made her feel better, but he was surprised to find he sensed no anger as she turned toward him, which confused him more than anything. Perhaps it was the people he was around usually, but he wasn't used to other people being so, forgiving. It was another small reminder of just how far from his world Miss Independent, or rather Maisie, really was. The second reminder came in the form of her casually pulling out more money than you could justify to cover a drink and something nice, and calling it 'not much' to boot. He was equally horrified at the idea of the girl he was apologizing to offering him money, and that he was severely tempted by the amount. He could practically hear Whisp laughing in his mind as he hesitated, torn between what morals he still had and the temptation of easy cash. "I.. " He paused, unsure of himself and also well aware this was perhaps the first time he ever said no to an offer involving money, even though it was also the first time said money didn't seem to come with a sacrifice/catch. "I want to make it up to you for my actions, taking that kinda puts me even more in your debt." He said finally with an embarrassed chuckle, unable to bring himself to accept it despite how much he wanted to. "Unless you need something I could do for you in return?" He ventured, unsure what a girl like her could even need that he would be able to give, but wanting a way to repay her regardless. [attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] "If your work was something you enjoyed that much, why would you hate it to begin with?" Arc countered, genuinely curious about the other guy's perspective. Personally he wished he was good at something he actually enjoyed. The idea of doing something you loved as a job seemed like it would be a good thing, to him at least. Though he supposed other people were typically smart enough to have more options than someone like him in the first place. As he paid, a mischievous look crossed Arc's features as he noticed Kozue turn red, and he struggled with the sudden impulse to tease him. "Hey, little more work and you'd be a lady killer with that move." He stifled a grin as he spoke, but he wasn't really lying. If he had learned anything from the women he dealt with, it was that a lot liked men with moves, so long as their personality wasn't shit, anyway. Though Arc had a feeling this kid was too nice to be a dickhead. [attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] Arc cringed as the Owl screeched but the sound quickly became the least of his problems. He clung to the daggers for dear life as the owl tried to shake him off, biting back a screech of his own as his arms felt like they'd be yanked right off of him in the process. Somehow he managed to hold on, but as the Owl surged forward his daggers were finally knocked free and Arc found himself suddenly sliding down it's back. Shit shit shit! He fought for a grip on the sharp feathers and tried to ignore the state of his hands and legs as he finally managed to wedge himself near it's tail with a grimace. At Stellar's words Arc grit his teeth and dragged himself into a better position as Whisp tightened his knot on the Owl's wings. He couldn't help with the force from where he was, but off-balance he could do! Arc pushed off hard and surged up over the Owl's shoulder, stabbing one of his daggers into it and swinging himself at the Owl's legs. As he collided with one of the legs he locked his legs around it, grinning as a surge of adrenaline shot through him. Suck it, owl! One of the constructs binding the owl's left wing suddenly retracted fast as a whip, disappearing beneath Arc's jacket only to reappear a second later from one of the ragged cuts it's feathers had left in his knees. It shot out around the Owl's legs like a web and tightened it's grip as hard as it could, effectively trying to bola/trip the beast. [attr="class","alpha"] [attr="class","beta"] Arc recovered without making much noise, besides the shattering of his pride, but hesitated where he stood as he tried to think of what to do next. He had wanted to see the woman again to properly apologize, but he also hadn't expected to run into her so... soon. ~Don't be a pussy~ Arc barely suppressed the sigh as Whisp's taunt hissed in his mind, yet admittedly it gave him the boost he needed to man up and approach Maisie. "Um, Hey." He was rather glad she couldn't see the guilty look that flashed across his face as he stopped, staying well out of arm's reach of her. Partly out of respect for her, and the cute dog, and partly because she made him feel weirdly more threatening than usual, though part of that likely stemmed from him not wanting to scare her. "Sorry for bothering you," He kept his voice light and friendly, but he wondered if she would even recognize it. Despite living in Japan for awhile now, it still hadn't been long enough to remove the remnants of his strong northern-Canadian accent. Though It made his voice a bit more unique, he wasn't sure if a villain's voice was exactly worth remembering, or if you'd even want to. "But my name is Arc, and I'd like to apologize for scaring you.. in the alley."
