[Freja Helt]

Ever since the trials of the Ikigai festival where she had to wear a yukata for the first time, Freja had gotten a little more confident about wearing dresses in public. She had worn one to Sumi's yacht party as well, and she was wearing one now. Right in the middle of Tokyo of all places. She had gone for a simple gray dress. She liked the look of it both because it matched her hair, but also because it reminded her of Sumi's cigarette smoking. She was still wearing flat shoes, there was no way she could master high heels just like that and besides, she was always one of the tallest people in the room and heels just made her look like even more of a tower. With her handbag over one shoulder and her phone in the other, Freja stood outside the karaoke place they were meeting up at.

She wasn't a smoker herself, but she figured Sumi might want a cigarette before they headed in. Maybe they were allowed to smoke inside? She hadn't checked and it wasn't like she went to karaoke often. Why was she even here? What if she bombed her singing and made a fool of herself in front of Sumi? A quick glance inside through the store window told her they sold alcohol, her way to gain confidence in times of trouble! Now all she had to do was wait for Sumi to arrive. Looking back down at her phone she reminisced about the yacht party, or the parts she could remember. She never expected to get that drunk, but she had to admit she really had gotten carried away. How different would it be to hang out with Sumi when they weren't going to get insanely drunk?

She had a blast and barely remembered half the night, but apparently, she made some good friends by the end of the night. When she opened her phone the next day, she had a lot of missed texts from people either thanking her for a good time or something else that she couldn't decipher because they were hammered. One of them stuck out in particular as she had put Freja in her phone with a little smiley face next to it, and the text from what she could read said something about karaoke. Had she brought that up or did Freja? Either way, she decided to embrace this because if there was one thing she could remember, she had a blast on the scavenger hunt with her group, including Freja.

Opting to wear a more casual outfit than a dress, she had a plaid shirt with black and white patches, jeans, heeled boots, and some trendy heart-shaped glasses on her head. She rarely drove, but today she felt that it was fitting given what they were up to, and she could also offer Freja a ride back to campus if possible. When she pulled up to the karaoke place she could see Freja in a grey dress, and she got out to wave her down "Freja! It's good to see you again. Especially now that we'll both remember this!" she laughed to herself as she was certain that Freja had gotten as drunk, if not more drunk, than she had. "Have you ever been to karaoke before? It's my favorite thing ever!" she would open the door to the place and let the much taller girl enter first. When they were inside they'd see a mix of traditional Japanese architecture lit up with neon purple lights and the sounds of people laughing. "ooh. This is gonna be fun I've never been to this place before and..." she looked around to get a hint for her next question "I wonder if they have bottle service?"

Her eyes lit up when Sumi approached. She was so effortlessly stylish, like no matter what she wore she could just make it work and come off as the coolest chick in whichever social situation she found herself in. ''Right!'' She laughed back, still a bit embarrassed at just how drunk she had gotten during the party. She didn't remember if Sumi was there to support her at the time, but she definitely remembered that she had thrown up into one of the many toilets onboard the treasure hunt yacht. ''Thank you for hosting that, it was a lot of fun. I hope I wasn't too much trouble on you and your staff..'' She smiled, putting her hands behind her back. ''M-Me?'' She leaned forward slightly and turned to look through the window to the place. ''Never actually! I'm a karaoke noob, think you can show me the ropes?'' She put her hands together in a little, silent prayer as she flashed an apologetic smile.

''How about you, have you done a lot of karaoke?'' She bowed her head politely as Sumi opened the door for her, looking this way and that as she took in as many sights as possible before walking up to the front desk. ''Bottle service?'' She looked back at Sumi, ''like selling alcohol?'' She turned back to the guy behind the desk. ''Yes, a room for us, please!'' She pointed between Sumi and herself. As they were led to their room Freja broke the silence. ''I wish we had more of this where I'm from, but it's so rare that you see karaoke places back home.'' She could maybe count on one hand how many she had seen in Copenhagen and even then that paled in comparison to how it was run in Japan.

Eventually they arrived in a room with a couple of couches, a table in the middle and of course the karaoke screen with mics and everything to get them started on picking their songs. ''Oh, look!'' She scooped a little menu off the table. ''They serve snacks and drinks.'' She waved it back and forth before handing it to Sumi. ''What do you want? I'm thinking a regular beer for me.''

"Besides, would I have suggested karaoke if I didn't have a good time?" she was hammered by the end of the boat trip, just like Freja, so she didn't remember their promise to meet up until she checked her phone, scrolling through about a hundred contacts mainly thanking her for the invite. She did put Freja as one of her favorites alongside a few other standouts from the trip. "Karaoke is about my favorite thing ever. Very few times where you can go all out and make a fool of yourself in 'my world'" She would put air quotes around that last bit as she is present for many social events and is involved heavily in the business. Freja was exactly the type of person to have a good time and put herself out there even when she didn't feel comfortable. Precisely the kind of person Sumi would get along with.

"Denmark, right?" she said, trying to piece together the details of the other night. "Where did you grow up?" Without skipping a beat, she took out her company black card and handed it to the attendant. "One Hour, please. For anything between me and my friend here, just put it on the card." She didn't know Freja's financial situation and didn't care. She had proposed the idea to come out here in the first place, so it was only fitting that she paid.

The room seemed pretty standard from what Sumi used, and she couldn't help but throw a glance at Freja. Seeing someone experiencing this for the first time brought a smile to her face. "Thanks! Anything in particular you know that you'd like? I'm going to go with...hmmm." She looked the menu up and down. "Peach Chuhai and maybe some french fries." She would hand it back to Freja, stretching as she kicked off her boots to make herself more comfortable in their private room. Making her way to the call phone, she'd wait for Freja's food before calling it in, smiling at her larger companion the whole time.

She giggled playfully at the jab. Thinking back on it, she totally got where Sumi was coming from. As a host it was always a better time when lots of guests showed up to your event. Not that Freja had much experience hosting parties herself, she usually just went to parties. ‘‘You’re right! I have to admit I was so hungover the morning after, lots of gaps in my memory.’’ She grinned apologetically. ‘‘But I remembered you pretty clearly. You made me laugh so hard I couldn’t breathe. Several times.’’ She accused her with a teasing smirk. ‘‘Really? I imagine ‘your world’ can get pretty serious sometimes.’’ She smiled, also doing the air quotes.

‘‘That’s right! In Copenhagen, the capital. Even though it’s our biggest city, karaoke just hasn’t taken off yet.’’ She shrugged. When Sumi just casually pulled out her card, Freja blinked and looked at her almost stammering out a ‘what’, but just looking on in confusion as she had been about to reach for her own wallet. ‘‘Thank you! Want me to cover for the drinks?’’ She at least felt like offering. Just because Sumi was wealthy didn’t mean she had to treat Freja to everything.

‘‘Peach Chuhai?’’ She took the menu as it was handed back to her. She couldn’t help but smile seeing Sumi relax and kick her boots off out of the corner of her eye. Sumi was someone who had a reputation. Whether it was family, or because she was just that awesome, and yet she was comfortable enough to relax around her. There was a nice, warm feeling to that. ‘‘Chuhai sounds tasty and I’m not really picky, I’ll try an Ume Chuhai with some french fries too!’’ She gave a thumbs up, putting the menu down as she went to scroll through the vast list of songs. ‘‘Uhh.. How do you feel about anime music?’’ She looked back over her shoulder at Sumi with an awkward smile, knowing exactly how much of a nerd she was. Sumi was probably fine with it, but Freja was aware that yeah, she was totally just that foreigner who had mostly listened to anime songs when it came to exploring the Japanese music industry.

While they waited for their drinks to arrive, Freja grew curious too. She had already been asked about where she grew up, but she hardly knew anything about Sumi’s past. ‘‘Where did you grow up?’’ She struck Freja as a city girl like her, but she wasn’t exactly an expert at reading people on the subtleties like that. She was much better at reading emotions. Once their drinks and snacks arrived, Freja would nervously eat a few fries. Afterwards she lifted her own Chuhai glass at Sumi. ‘‘Cheers! Or as we say in Denmark, Skål!’’ Alcohol, alcohol, she was definitely going to need that liquid courage. As they continued scrolling her eyes would light up at the title Papermoon. Whether Sumi brought it up first, or they simply landed on it by chance. ‘‘Papermoon! That one is popular.’’ She had already jumped out of her seat before she realized it. ‘‘Uh.. I’ll know the lyrics to this one! Do you want to sing it together? I-I mean that way it’s less scary!’’ She grinned, a little embarrassed at how quickly she had flown out of her seat. ‘‘Ready?’’



After hitting play she clutched her microphone in both hands, flashing Sumi one last smirk before closing her eyes to try and focus on making it less scary. Her hands were shaking, but the song was building up to the first verse.

She was on time, but out of key a little bit on the second line, both due to some vocal rust and her own nerves. Only once her verse ended did she peek open her eyes to look at Sumi.

She spent all her time in the lab furthering her knowledge of biotech and was pretty damn good at it! Even at this young age, she outclassed many of the senior researchers. To her, this justified her spending since she wouldn't take advantage of her title of heiress without doing some work. "Copenhagen is nice! We have a major research center there, so I've popped over a few times." she would wave her hand dismissively at her offer "No no I invited you. Drunk or not, I keep my promises!" she would give Freja a wink before joining Freja at the front.

"Anime songs? Not really, but I'll try anything" She had genuinely never watched any anime, but being open-minded was one of her stronger traits "I've jus- oh thank you!" she would give a respectful bow to the waiter "Skål!" she said in return and then slammed back her drink. "Sooooooo goooood!" Her cheeks had a slight red tinge to them as she started to feel a little tipsy. "Can we get a plum wine and uh...a bottle of shochu? Oh, and the karaage please!" She would take her seat, munching on a few fries "Me? I was born in Tokyo, but I've lived all over. Mom and Dad needed to travel so sometimes I would just stay with my grandfather. He lives right in Tokyo Bay." as the waiter returned with more of their food she would pour a glass of plum wine for Freja who had shot up to start singing so she poured another for herself, taking a large sip. "Just the right amount of sour," Sumi would turn, reclining her seat as she watched Freja start, clapping along with the beat until the first chorus hit "Superstar!" she called out, whistling and clapping as she wanted to make Freja feel as comfortable as possible. Plus, it was good to get the feel of the song before she would jump in.

Once Freja got through the first verse, slightly out of key, Sumi would prepare as she was, in her opinion, a pretty good singer. Lot of practice over the years "So scary, but you can't give into this[break]

She raised her voice and singing her heart out hoping that her brazen attitude would encourage Freja to join in and not worry about making herself look good

That answer totally checked out, Freja had heard Sumi could spend a lot of time in the support labs, but even if she hadn’t Sumi was still smart. Even if she wasn’t a show off about it or anything, Freja could tell. Maybe she might ask her for help with her own homework someday if she wasn’t so embarrassed at being mediocre. “The exciting part of it.” Everyone knew that the financials were nice, but the real fun of any business was the work process. Sumi was rich no doubt, but she didn’t seem obsessed with money.

“No way! You’ve been?” She lit up when Sumi mentioned the Copenhagen research center. Being from a small country she was used to no one knowing about it. Once someone did or had even visited it felt all the more special. “..If you say so!” She smiled, bowing her head politely at Sumi once more when she insisted on paying.

She could feel her world crumble as self-cringe flooded her body. Sumi didn’t listen to anime songs! Did she even watch anime? Had her assessment that Sumi was a bit of a nerd been wrong? Well, whatever. She clearly didn’t hate the idea, and even wanted to sing alongside her. Freja let out a small sigh as the drink worked its way through her system. “At this rate we’re gonna be drunk all over again.” She chuckled, teasing Sumi for making more orders. Not that she minded it at all. “I see! You’re totally a city girl!” She shot Sumi a finger gun of city girl solidarity.

The clapping and cheering did make her feel a little more at ease. Maybe the fact that it was just Sumi too. Had it been a crowd of people from school she would probably have excused herself and left already. She found it amusing that Sumi liked sour drinks. Not many people did in her experience. She felt a brief sense of relief finishing her first verse, only to be completely awestruck when the wall of harmony that was Sumi’s voice hit her. It was beautiful, she could work with that. She smiled back and gave Sumi a nod in turn as they came up on the chorus. She was a second late, but quickly synced up with Sumi, her own voice deep, not quite as deep as when she used to be Elias, but deep for a female singer. She trusted the much more experienced Sumi to cover the high notes, while she herself harmonized with and backed her with the lower notes.

With her eyes now open, Freja was feeling a lot more confident, looking back at Sumi, grinning ear to ear as she peered at the lyrics on screen.

She increased the intensity of her voice just a little bit with the music as she nodded her head, hyping up Sumi for her next part.

"Hey, I had fun last time I got drunk with you! Just gotta make sure to call me a cab if I'm too drunk for you to handle!" She gave her a wink before refocusing on the karaoke. The song Freja had picked was catching and a great piece to duet. Sumi always tried to encourage her friends and considered herself very open-minded. After all, why deprive yourself of fun times like this by not taking a leap?

"It's that obvious, huh?" she said, laughing to herself about being pegged as a city girl. As they continued to sing, Sumi would observe Freja out of the corner of her eye and was happy to see her nervousness dropping off with her body language showing that she was getting less self-conscious.

She may have been off-pitch, but she was good at harmonizing and Sumi decided to take a step back letting Freja sing the next lyrics herself as she clapped along, getting a feel of the beat and also taking another sip from her drink. Karaoke and Alcohol were about Sumi's favorite things and Freja was slowly becoming apart of that list. As she teed up Sumi for the next part she was ready to sing her heart out, wanting to impress her new friend with her skills. She got much louder this time and closing her own eyes to really feel the music.[break][break]

She would take this opportunity to move up close to Freja so their shoulders were touching as she prepared to sing the rest of the song alongside her. An entertaining night so far!

Freja was having a ton of fun too, she hadn't laughed and smiled this much since the yacht party. ''If you get that drunk I'll take care of you. Wouldn't be my first time playing mother hen.'' She grinned, giving her a thumbs up. ''I recognize my own people.'' She smiled, pointing at her own eye. Freja had grown up in the city her entire life, even moving to Japan, she had gone to Tokyo, which was just a bigger city.

She wasn't necessarily a bad singer, but it was clear Freja was lacking in confidence, especially when contrasted with Sumi like this. However, Sumi didn't make her feel like she was lesser in any way. There was no competition, no singing good to impress her, it was just a simple karaoke session with a friend... Freja was starting to see the appeal behind karaoke. Getting into the music, she clapped along for Sumi as she sang solo, whilst also chugging some more drinks fast while she had the time. Freja was usually a bit of a tense person. She wasn't aloof or anything, but she was reserved and not exactly good at starting conversations. Drinking changed that. When she got even just tipsy, she felt like a whole different person, blessed with a previously unknown confidence that made her way more relaxed. She was mesmerized by Sumi's singing, admiring her bravery for just throwing herself into this song, but also nailing the vibe immediately. If she hadn't known, Freja might even think Sumi had composed it with how well she captured the tone. She giggled when Sumi moved up close to her, giving her shoulder a playful nudge with her own before jumping straight into the next verse.

Singing alone was one thing, but Freja hadn't experienced singing along someone like this since well... Since many years ago.

She looked over at Sumi, trying to read how she was feeling. Was she having this much fun too? Since they were in this together, singing songs and getting drunk, she would try to put her arm around Sumi's shoulder as she closed her eyes and gave the last verse her all.

She took a sip of her drink every pause in the song until it was basically empty. Not wanting to break the pace she would place it down away from the duo as she continued, face turning red as her voice rose and fell with the flow of the music. She was going all out and would have continued to do so before being caught off guard by being pulled in close by Freja. She could barely continue on as she began to laugh at the situation and by trying to suppress it she would end up laughing harder. Even still, she managed to finish the last bit, throwing her arms up and cheering before she pulled Freja into a bear hug, squeezing her tight

"That was soooo much fun!" she would pull away from Freja, head tilted slightly up, and place her hands on her shoulders "Good song choice!" Sumi wasn't too hard to please, but even still Freja managed to find a good vibe to kick off the night. Turning towards the rest of their drinks and food, Sumi stretched again before making her way over to one of the couches, grabbing a small plate of food and fully reclining as she laid horizontally across it. "Break time!" she said, popping in some karaage as the room spun slightly.

Once she was finished chewing, she would sit up, pulling her legs to her knees. "So, anything else you'd like to know? I'm an open book, trust me. Get a tiiiiny bit of alcohol in me and I won't stop talking," either she really was drunk or perhaps she just thought of that as funny, but she would laugh at her own observation.

She laughed alongside Sumi, laughed so much that she hurt all over in the best way possible once the song wrapped up. Her face was red from a mixture of alcohol and forgetting to breathe, and had Sumi not been there to pull her into a hug, Freja would have almost certainly fallen to her knees. Of course she squeezed her back too.

“You think? I was so nervous!” She admitted, spirits high after the song. Heck, she could even go for another one if it wasn’t for her lack of breathing technique. “Sounds great! Singing is its own workout, isn’t it?” She smiled, letting out a little sigh as she sat down and started pouring herself another drink. Freja rarely associated singing with training since she only ever sang in the shower. “Hm?” She looked up at Sumi mid-sip.

“An open book you say?” She put her glass down and thought about it. “Careful, I might ask you a thousand different questions.” She teased smugly. It wasn’t even a threat, she genuinely wanted to know so much about Sumi it was hard to know where to begin. “Oh! At the party you made furniture.” Freja gestured wildly, as if she was trying to recall what the chairs looked like. “You also smoke a lot, is it to power yourself up?” Sumi was brave to say she was an open book. Did she really have nothing to hide? Freja was less inclined to give such an offer to others but well… Well it was just Sumi so… “You can ask me questions too if you want!” She raised her hand before downing the rest of the glass she had poured.

Even if this wasn't true, it's not like she would tell Freja that, given her nervous disposition. "I'll answer those thousand questions, no problem!" she would sit up entirely, almost falling back over due to the significant headrush she got from the alcohol. Reaching for more fries, she would light up as Freja talked about her quirk.

"Oh right, I never explained, did I?" She would reach into her pocket to grab the pack of cigarettes made by her company and take out a lighter. Luckily for both of them, smoking was allowed in karaoke lounges. She would light up and inhale deeply, her shoulders relaxing as the nicotine did its job. "Kind of? I'm a mutation class." She would exhale, white smoke pouring out and encircling itself until it resembled a puffy cloud. "Smoking itself is the catalyst. It's like using a match to light a fire?" The smoke cloud would float gently down, and Sumi would stick her hand out as it passed through, as one would expect. "I can control the acridity. White smoke is harmless!" The smoke density changed now, surrounding her hand as if she were wearing a boxing glove. "The density to make it solid; that's how I made chairs." She released it from its solid state. Sitting back to finish her drink, she drew in the air as the smoke broke and rearranged into letters, spelling out Freja: "And do that!" From there, she would release the smoke and let it drift away. "So," she would lean forward, blue eyes wide and eager, "I never asked what your quirk can do?? Show me! If you're worried about damages, I'll pay them!" Unbeknownst to her, she stepped on one of the most fragile landmines possible by bringing up quirks. To be fair, Freja did start it

She giggled at the compliment, suddenly really happy that she had said yes to a karaoke day. Why has she even been so scared in the first place? “You’re just saying that!” She took a big swig from her wine, eyes lighting up at Sumi’s answer. “Oh yeah? One thousand questions incoming!” She cooed.

She gently shook her head and leaned in closer as Sumi began explaining her quirk, cocking her head to one side as she blinked her eyes and looked Sumi over one more time. “Mutation?” Maybe it was just a big surprise because Sumi had no obvious mutations to speak of? No wings, horns, fangs or tails. “Woah.” She focused on the smoke as Sumi put her hand through it, mesmerized like she was watching a magic trick. “That’s so cool. I bet you can do a ton with a power like that.” She smiled, leaning back in her seat. How did it feel to have a useful power? Original Freja’s Sacred Flame wasn’t malleable enough that she could make furniture, but she would probably have been able to relate to Sumi. “Hey! That’s me!” She chuckled, clapping her hands together as she noticed the writing.

“Eh? Me?” Her eyes went wide as her nerves returned, looking behind her just to make sure Sumi was addressing her. Did she not know that Freja was quirkless? “W-Well uh, I used to have one. I don’t anymore.” She sat up properly, hands in her lap as she thought about what to say next. She trusted Sumi, at least enough to tell her about the incident. In fact, if they were to become good friends, she really wanted Sumi to know about the incident. “Can you keep a secret for me, Sumi?” She finished the rest of her drink and let out a small sigh. “This is going to sound crazy, but I’m the fusion of two minds. I was once two people.” She held up two fingers. “We were twins.”

Sumi was blunt, but she wasn't heartless, especially when it came to a dear friend like Freja. This realization also sobered her up a bit a look of concern replacing the eagerness that was there moments prior. "It was..stolen?" She was rarely angered, but this was a special case. "We should go find whoever took it and get it back! I'm sure I could figure out a wa-" she was cut off mid-thought as Freja asked her if she could keep a secret.

"Of course! I don't see what that has to do wi- a...twin?" she paused briefly, trying to remember the medical phenomenon Freja was talking about. "Is it a vanishing twin situation? By that, I mean it happens sometimes when a mother miscarries." She took a sip from her drink, finishing it as well as the gears turned in her head. She was wracking her brain trying to figure out what that meant and how that would be possible. "Wait, you got into the hero course without a quirk? That's AMAZING! How did you manage that?" her excitement was infectious, with her exuberant energy cutting through the depressing news. "You know...I could probably help you get your quirk back. In theory, that is!"

Stolen? If only. It was sweet of Sumi to suggest such a thing, and to even humor her after she heard that she was quirkless. “Well.. Not exactly.” She reached for her phone and pulled up a picture of her and Freja and showed it to Sumi. “Yeah, fraternal twins, this is me and my sister, Freja. My name, well… It was Elias. When we both died, my quirk activated and I was brought back to life in Freja’s body. I-I know it’s a lot.”

She blushed when Sumi got excited over how she passed the hero exam without a quirk. “W-Well I have my niche! It’s not that big of a deal, anyone could do it.” She averted her gaze as she rubbed the back of her neck. She forced a smile to help Sumi lighten the mood again. She clearly wasn’t freaking out or calling Freja a monster or anything like that, so she had to be okay with this revelation. “It’s just a lot of training and thinking on your feet!” She smirked, tapping her temple with her index finger. “And alcohol!” She went for another big drink, she definitely needed more. Somehow, Sumi’s infectious excitement had spread to her too. “Help me get my quirk back?” She raised an eyebrow as she poured another glass. She was a bit skeptical at the prospect, she had basically written off quirks forever. She was never going to have powers and that was okay. Then again, Sumi was a genius. She wouldn’t just say something like that without an actual line of thought to back it up. “Is that possible?”
