[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]Having a roommate that was a support student was very, very handy. Anytime something needed to be fixed, Kei was there, anything he needed built quickly, Kei was there. Heck, even when Zenkai bothered him about making him some gear, Kei was there and willing. The dude was one of the friendliest and most accommodating people they had ever met though they were pretty sure it wasn't because Kei wanted to be nice. It was because he really didn't have a single ounce of assertiveness in him. Zen knew he would eventually have to help his roommate develop a backbone but not before he took advantage of the situation, he really wanted some cool gauntlets…And a neat pair of boots.

“So, like, these will make me stronger?” The titan raised an eyebrow as he flexed his hands, checking out his new gauntlets. They were pretty much everything Zenkai was hoping for. Aesthetically pleasing and packing a punch, and able to fold into cute little bangles, it was the perfect gear for Zen, easily accessible and on hand whenever he needed it. Most importantly though, it was a short cut. See, Zen didn’t want to have to work out daily in order to get a stronger physique. Instead he’d have his new gauntlets and boots do all the heavy lifting for him, pun intended.

“Can’t wait to smash some of these robots” The golden boi gave Ken a grin and a thumbs up. Originally Zenkai wanted to try and use them on “Live” targets but after Kei explained that other students probably wouldn’t wait around to get hit and that he’d actually have to go chase them down to hit them. Zenkai changed his mind as they decided it was way too much work and would settle for the robots instead.

“So…I just start swinging and you get to check the output on them or something? Final touch kind of thing?”

[Kei Hada]

Contrary to overwhelmingly popular belief, Kei wasn't a complete pushover. It may seem like he was with how often he accepted people's requests for gear or helped with their homework or loaned them some yen or-- okay so maybe the belief was valid. Sometimes though- sometimes he would redirect people to a different support student. If he felt that student was better suited for what they were asking for than he was. Like Ana's unmatched understanding of robotics, or Bongo's skill in chemistry. Of course these were viable reasons to refuse a project, because saying he can't because he doesn't want to wasn't in his eyes.

Okay, so he really was a pushover.

Fortunately Zenkai was a friend, so he actually wanted to take on their request.

That project came to fruition in the form of a matching set of hefty gauntlets and boots. The guy had shown his strength back in the Ikea debacle so Kei was confident he could handle the weight of the accessories. They're at the final testing phase now, the cityscape being their experimental grounds and standing across from them are a line of robots of varying heights and weights.

Kei answered the titan's questions with a smile. "Yeah, pretty much!" He pointed his pen at each of the automatons left to right. "Each of these drones have a different breakin' point, with that one at the end-" His pen rested on a giant of a mech that doubled the freshman's height. "-bein' the most durable. These are only stress tests so you don't have to worry about them movin' or anythin'." He was glad he was able to convince them not to punch actual people. That could at least be saved for when they were sure the gauntlets wouldn't malfunction.

The support student wrote in his journal some more before he gave Zenkai a thumbs up. "Okay, whenever you're ready!"

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]Zenkai let out a loud annoyed sigh as he turned his attention to the stationary automatons. It wasn't much fun hitting targets that weren't moving but they guessed it was fine since it was just to test if the equipment worked. The fun part could come later, not much later, but later. "Gotchya, hit them as hard as I can until they break" Zenkai teased. He wasn't actually sure he'd be able to break the bots but he was sure that with the new gear he'd be able to put at least a sizeable dent in one or two of them.

The sapphire-eyed titan approached the smallest of the robots before taking his actual fighting stance instead of his usual, lackadaisical one. It wouldn't do if he was lazy with his punches, as weird as it sounded he needed to put more work in now so that he wouldn't have to work as hard later. So, in a rare display, Zenkai would take the test run semi-seriously.

The titan thrust his fist forward as he punched the first dummy, watching it rock back and forth. A large dent in the shape of a fist was left directly in the center of the machine. With the first one done Zenkai went on to the next dummy and repeated the process over and over again as the intensity of his punches increased with the size of each automaton. Eventually the titan found himself staring down the last one. " Well, I certainly do feel the difference, I hit like a fucking truck"

Kei could see the tease for what it was, so Zenkai would get a blown raspberry in response. "It's not a stress test if you just pummel 'em to pieces and you know it. You get one punch on each, so make it count!" Not like they'd have any trouble though. He saw their strength, so he's sure they won't have any problems with the task.

Case and point with the dents the titan was making on the robots. Kei smiled at the results as he wrote them down, the experiment going as he expected. "Good! I'm glad you noticed honestly, I was worried you wouldn't tell- would've meant I didn't make 'em strong enough." Though perhaps it was going too well. Zenkai was a bruiser, that much was obvious, but surely Kei at least could've come up with something new for them to be able to do.

He looked up from his journal. "Y'know, I do wonder why you just want gear that let you punch and kick harder. You're already pretty strong." It was evident that he still remembered the Ikea incident. The support student tilted his head, perplexed. "Do you really need the gauntlets to let you do better at what you already can do well?"

Of course since it was just a single kick to each robot it left the golden boi plenty of time to talk with his roommate which meant he would be forced to answer the question whether he wanted to or not. Thankfully he very much wanted to. It was a small point of pride to be this specifically lazy. Yes he was built like a tank and yes he could probably get a lot stronger but…

"Yeah! I do!" The sapphire-eyed titan said cheerfully as he delivered a kick to the first dummy. "Since I don't use my quirk I need something to give me an edge when I'm finally forced to fight and having gear that makes me stronger and let's me hit harder seems like the easiest solution!" Zen delivered yet another kick. "Like yeah. I could probably train a whole bunch like Farrin does but I'd rather use that effort to focus on other things so… Getting you to make gear sorta feels like a shortcut to that y'know? One less thing I have to train! Easy peasy." The titan continued kicking at the dummies while struggling with an internal dilemma.

For a few minutes the giant freshman was silent as he beat the shit out of the training dummies with his feet before he eventually spoke up. "Yo…you think if I told you about it, could these things channel my quirk through them?"

Kei's note-taking was second nature at this point, able to write down his findings on the success of the boots as he listened to Zenkai's explanation. He could even comment on it no problem. "Usin' gear as a shortcut? I mean if you put it that way sure." Did Kei have the heart to tell them that rather than simplifying the process, the person who would be doing the work merely shifted from them to himself? Not really. Especially since the whole point of having gear was to make one's life easier in the long run. He just had to make the gauntlets and boots once, maybe do some maintenance or improvements over time and that's it. Easy peasy as they said.

And then he registered the lack of Quirk usage. Which should've been the more important part of their reasoning.

Kei paused in his writing to give the freshman a confused look. "You weren't usin' it this whole time?" Flipping through his pages, he looked down at the notes he made at the start of the project, doing several double takes between the titan and his book. "I thought your stronger physical prowess was your Quirk. You made stackin' that furniture look easy." He was about to ask why they would be hiding it but he caught himself before he did so. He'd be a hypocrite if he questioned it when he himself wouldn't tell people what his Quirk was either.

So instead he closed his journal to fully focus on his friend's question. "It really depends on what it is. I'm guessin' it's an emitter if you wanna channel it?"

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]The sapphire-eyed titan blinked at his roommate's question. At first he didn't understand what Kei was asking, wasn't it obvious that he wasn't using a quirk? The engineer's clarified the confusion by pointing out Zenkai's physique which made sense, they were built like a fucking tank so it was easy to mistake his monstrous body as the result of a quirk. "Nah dude, I'm just built different, lifting furniture is easy but it's not my quirk, kinda wish super strength was tho, that would be cool." Zen flexed his fingers inside the gauntlets "Can't believe you actually thought that was my quirk dude, that's pretty funny…and sad…why would I need gear to make me stronger if that was my quirk?"

The monkey king would have enjoyed teasing and bullying Kei all day for his lack of knowledge but it had been intentional on Zenkai's part. They didn't enjoy using their quirk, hell they couldn't even really remember the last time they used it. It was very potent and extremely dangerous and they had resolved to never using it again. Unfortunately in the process of becoming a hero their eyes had been slightly opened to the dangers that lurked in the world. The monkey king hoped his gauntlets would be enough to level the playing field against those who used their quirks but he knew eventually he would be pushed to use his quirk and when that time came it would be better if his gauntlets worked with it.

"Mutation actually, but the mutation does make me an emitter so…both technically" The temperature around the gigantic student flared up a couple degrees in response to the feeling of vulnerability that came along with the explanation of his quirk. With a loud sigh Zenkai looked around to make sure absolutely no one was looking before holding his hand out "Don't. Fucking. Touch. It" The enlightened one warned as a small sphere of sapphire energy sparked to life above his palm. "Pure, one hundred percent atomic energy, explodes on touch or on command" A second later the orb fizzled out as Zenkai shook his hand, trying to hide the tremors that now over took his arms.

Zenkai took in a deep breath and did his best to calm his heart rate as his mind screamed at him for activating his quirk. They couldn't explain why but there was an overwhelming sense of dread when they looked at the energy in their hand. Luckily Zen was pretty good at not showing many emotions and he was pretty sure that Kei would remain unaware of his uneasy.

"So, thing you can work with that?"

The grimace on Kei's face was evident as he realized the error he made. "Yes?? That's why I was askin' why you wanted the gear in the first place! I thought it was redundant to mimic your Quirk!" Oh God, how long have they lived in the same dorm? And it took only now for him to learn that the Quirk he imagined Zenkai had was a lie? How was it possible for the guy to do more than be a tank? Though he did have a bad habit of judging books by their covers. He's sure the guy would never let him live it down.

But you know, that didn't matter. He was learning about it now and this knowledge was going to be important.

The sudden rise in temperature made the support student puff out air from his mouth on instinct, trying to cool himself down. He eyed the titan curiously as they looked around before- oh. There's the Quirk, just floating over their hand.

Kei shielded his eyes from the sphere using his journal before he even registered the warning, the energy too bright for him to look at. He could see the light emanating from it though, from over the top of his book. "Atomic energy? Woah, that's insane." Questions were already running through his head. Was the energy the cause of the heat around them? Do they overheat if they use it too much? What's the best way to cool them down quickly so that didn't happen?

He was already thinking of improvements he could made to the gear in his head when the orb went away, none-the-wiser to Zenkai's discomfort. He couldn't really spot a problem when it's purposefully hidden. Lowering his journal from his face, he looked up at the freshman. "I think so! Though I might need you to come with me to the lab- I gotta have you use your Quirk on materials to see which of them can take it." He pointed at the gauntlets with his pen. "I didn't make those with radiation in mind."

Kei smiled. "It doesn't need to be today though, we were only supposed to do final testin' so I didn't account for this."

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]The titan let out a sigh and shook their hand a bit more as Kei gushed over their quirk. They understood the awe but it made them uncomfortable. They firmly believed that no one should have the ability to have so much power at their finger tips. Not to mention what happened if they used the quirk too much. It was obvious to pretty much everyone how devastating the quirk was and how useful it could be as a hero but they preferred to keep it locked away and hidden. No one needed to know about it in their opinion, they weren't going to use it anyway so why did it matter? Still, here they were, showing it off for his roommate so they could make such accommodations in their gauntlets.

"We can meet there tonight, when no one is around, and make sure you turn off all the cameras in the area" The titan disliked that they sounded paranoid but it was the only way they would use their quirk for Kei. "And we will be taking frequent breaks for your safety" Zenkai preferred not to explain more about their quirk than Kei needed to know. They figured he'd probably end up asking a million questions during testing anyway and the privacy of the lab in the middle of the night was more fighting than where they were right now.

With a loud sigh Zenkai shook his hands once more before clapping Kei on the shoulder. "Just need the gauntlets to be able to contain the energy and release it when I punch things, I'm sure you can do it! Hope you're familiar with electromagnets cuz you're probably going to need them." They weren't about to explain further, even if prompted. Kei was shown far more of their quirk than they ever wanted to show, he didn't need to see more.

Kei's brows furrowed at the freshman's next words, confused when they grew tense compared to their usual lax nature. They wanted them to be alone during the experiment. Which was a given; he didn't need anyone else involved in the creation of their gear. He was used to working on projects alone when they're meant to be used by someone on the hero field. It's when he combined their requests with how they looked around them earlier that he finally noticed something. One thing became apparent to him as his grin dimmed for a moment.

Discretion was key here.

His smile returned as fast as it went away. He hoped Zenkai didn't notice. "Yeah, tonight works! Empty room, cameras off, locked door. No one will know." Maybe he emphasized the last part too much as he wrote the requirements down as a reminder, but he wanted to be clear. They didn't want their session to be seen by anyone so he's doing everything he can to make that happen. He would probably need to tell a faculty member about the cameras though. Maybe recording on the one used for research could be a good alternative to the security ones? That way only he and the staff will see the footage before he inevitably deletes it.

Kei was thinking so hard that he jumped at the hand on his shoulder, shocked by the gesture. "Electromagnets? Yeah, I know how to use 'em, why-" And then he remembered the whole discretion thing. "You know what, don't answer that, I'll ask again later." Another note written down. The titan would be correct when it came to the questions; he needed to know as much as he can if he was going to try to contain that energy with the gauntlets.

He snapped his book closed. "For now though, we're done! Just in time for lunch too, we can head out-" His eyes landed on the robots, now lying in disrepair from the pummeling they endured earlier. He sighed, mood deflated at the scene. "As soon as I clean all this up."
