UAU was precisely as she had imagined, with intense physical and mental courses, as they were very selective with their students. While she had gotten in on her own merits, she couldn't entirely discount that her parents may have gotten involved, but she was confident enough that even if they hadn't, she would have gotten in regardless.

The most challenging part of her days was moving between the campus, her penthouse, and the Tiamat branch she worked in at Tokyo Bay. Most of the week involved her trying to do it all without cutting anything back, and this included spending her obligatory time at the support labs as her "homework" plus working the hours required. Always the creative thinker, she decided that she could get credit for both her support lab and get some work for Tiamat done at the same time. So she decided to post her information by her assigned station that 'From 3 pm-7 pm all requests will be conducted at Tiamat' and she would organize a ride for anyone willing to attempt.

It had been several days since she had done this, and aside from Freja contacting her to say hello, she hadn't received any offers until today. A man named Hawthorne had an inquiry that required someone with expertise in her field about a replacement arm...a replacement arm? Sumi blinked as she read the text, unsure if this was a prank. Even still, she decided to book him some time anyway on her schedule, waiting near the entrance to the building in her work clothes.

The number of arms Elijah had requested from his colleagues must be strange by now.

Especially if that sentence was taken out of context.

No, he wasn't some sick-minded individual collecting body parts just because. There's a reason behind the madness, though to him it wasn't mad at all. With Elijah lacking a right arm, he might as well get something that could do more than be an arm. Turn that loss into a strength not many people would have. Though much like any tool, their strengths wouldn't fit every occasion. Hence his asking for one from multiple people. Each had their purpose and he would respect the creators by not using them outside their functionality.

Which would lead him to this interesting scenario. The student he made his most recent request to had a specialty in bio-engineering, meaning the arm she would make may not be mechanical at all. Elijah was intrigued by this prospect. He's interested in what she could come up with.

The hero student eventually reached the location the ad provided, driven there as promised. He couldn't help but wonder if she was of high economical standing if she had the power to offer rides to anyone who asked. But he supposed that didn't matter. If anything he was appreciative of not having to go through public transit.

Elijah stepped out of the car and raised his human hand in greeting once he saw the woman by the door, his outfit only consisting of a hoodie and joggers. Not nearly as professional as hers. "Hey. Are you Okita?"

She was super interested in meeting other students but even more so to find someone interested in her work, even if it was for selfish reasons. It just gave her a chance to talk about it! She cared less about her life of luxury than one might think.

Giving him a bow, she would greet him with a bright smile. "Hello! You must be Hawthorne. Welcome to Tiamat!" she chose not to mention that it was technically her company. "You can just call me Sumi if you'd like! Please follow me." she would scan her badge as she let Elijah inside before she would follow. "We're going to Lab 4. Down the hall and up the elevator," she would gesture for him to follow before her intrusive thoughts got the best of her. "So, what happened to your arm?" she pointed at the prosthetic as she was curious and wanted to know more so she could construct a proper arm that would fit his needs.

Elijah blinked at the greeting, giving her a nod in return. She seemed nice enough if a bit chipper so he might as well return the courtesy. "I am, thank you. And I'm fine with Okita unless you prefer your first." He didn't personally, even moreso when his presence at Tiamat was only due to a project, but he could adjust if need be. Blunt as he was, he was never so rude as to call someone by the wrong name on purpose.

He was silent as he followed the woman, idly looking around the sleek interior of the building when she asked about his arm. "Lost it in a fire," was his answer, sounding too casual for the event he described. It was just a fact to him at this point, used to mentioning the incident when anyone questioned the prosthetic. He continued on without pause. "Right arm, up to the shoulder. I was told I most likely didn't feel it when it happened."

He seemed pretty relaxed and had two arms at the moment, which made her believe he already had a prosthetic...or he was lying, but that would SUPER weird given the circumstances. Even still he returned her greeting in kind, stating his preference when it came to how to address here "Okita is fine if you prefer that." once they had cleared the initial entrance, she would wave to security which scrambled to get the door open, not even asking for any further I.D. After all, who would? She was very well known around here for pretty obvious reasons.

"Lost in a fire, huh? I'm so sorry, that's a horrible way to get injured." the area was silent aside from the clicking of her heels and sound of his steps on the linoleum. "So, our company focuses on biotechnology. Your standard DNA, RNA, medical treatments you name it! If your intention was to regrow the arm it will take a bit but that's possible. If you want a prosthesis that is more functional or could be used for UAU activities, that's always an option as well." she would press the button as the whoosh of the elevator descending could be heard, chiming as the door opened and they would enter. On the backside of the elevator, Elijah would see that there was a glass pane, and the view consisted of various tests and research being done on each floor, all relevant to the industry.

She would side-eye Elijah as they ascended, curious to see how he would react to the building. She wasn't one to have an ego but she definitely took pride in her work and this building was a reflection of that. The business side of Tiamat never interested her to begin with but the science? Now you had her attention. When they arrived on the floor the elevator would open revealing a long walk way towards double doors with a small station prior to entry. "So, we're just going to need to decontaminate before we go in. This is our organic reconstruction lab and we want to prevent any germination through cross-contamination. It's a little uncomfortable, just shut your eyes." she would walk over and demonstrate before letting Elijah have his turn "Any questions before we go in?"

"Okita it is." Elijah eyed the guard as he followed the woman further in, noting how her refusal for scrutiny extended to him as well. She must be high up the Tiamat food chain if the man would follow her orders not to vet a complete stranger.

He shrugged at her apology. "You don't need to be. It's not like you're the one who removed it." The subject surrounding his arm always involved pity somehow. The that must be terrible's and I can't imagine the pain you've been through's overlayed over each other as time and again he'd hear those words. He was silently thankful that Sumi went straight to an explanation of her company and the reason for his visit instead of delved further into it. "A new prosthesis is my aim. I was given a unique opportunity to use them as tools, so I plan to benefit from it in any way I can." They would be stronger than his regular arm, that was for sure.

Elijah's eyes were looking beyond the glass as they stepped in the elevator and it went up, brows raised at the sight before him. Research facilities, rooms to run experiments, boards filled with equations he wouldn't understand even if he had the time to review them. He's not one to give compliments unprompted - it was much more likely for him to spout criticisms when he didn't need to - so the fact he was silent meant everything was in order to him.

When they reached the correct floor he listened to the support major's instructions, shutting his eyes as he stepped through the decontamination chamber. Blinking the mist from his eyes once the process was complete and he got to the other side, Elijah turned his head to her. "You mentioned regrowth being a possibility. How fast can that occur if you don't need to replicate my arm?" He's not looking to have the same one after all.

He wanted something better.

Walking over to a free workspace she'd use her ID badge to sign in before motioning from Elijah to stand in front of it. "Hero Course, right? Makes perfect sense to me that you'd want to turn something like that into an advantage" the ground would lit up underneath his feet as it began to scan him to get as much information as possible "Not replicating your arm?" she pondered the question briefly "I think it depends on what you'd like to replace it with. We've had some success with accelerated plant growth" she would flip the screen around so he could see a man with a plant leg. "Since plants have an accelerated growth period they're the easiest to produce. I know it's weird to think about, but if a plant would work, we can do that." She had never created something like that but it was an interesting challenge! Something to really push the boundaries of what she could do.

Another shrug at her words. "Mm. I survived." Whether Elijah was 'okay' after the event or not was subjective. Many people liked to believe he wasn't; that the tragedy shaped his outlook on life and he was just scraping by mentally. Having to tell them time again that he was fine was tiring. So it was nice of Sumi to not latch on to that belief.

Eyes would glance around the lab curiously before he followed her directions. "Correct." He arched a brow at the glow below him, wondering what it was doing but otherwise staying still. "To my department and request both. I already lost my real arm, there's no benefit to repeat that event." Elijah straightened his head to look at the screen she displayed. Huh. Plant leg. "Strange." It was definitely weird, he agreed with her there. But he was also intrigued. "As long as it wouldn't impede my movement, I'm down to try. Mobility's important to me."

His expression after her brief suggestion looked cautiously optimistic at best and indifferent at worst. As long as he wasn't rejecting the idea, she could work with it. "Well, a plant arm would be lightweight, and if I get permission to use your DNA I could probably synthesize a growth hormone to supercharge it. Otherwise you'd need to carry it around fully grown, but this way you could grow it rapidly and break it down just as easily." typing for a few minutes in silence, she'd turn the screen around again once she was done and would show something that looked like a hockey puck filled with dirt. When she hit enter, it would show vines being rapidly created out of the dirt and manifesting into a working arm. "Like that!"

The more Elijah listened to her explanation of the appendage, the more perplexed he became. He could understand the inconvenience of carrying around a full arm that would just break easily due to its plant-like nature but... Once the screen was turned away from him, he looked to her with brows furrowed in confusion. "Why does it need my DNA? I assumed the arm would be attached to my shoulder through a brace of some kind?"

His eyes focused on the display again as a demonstration of the arm was shown. Grown straight from a container, just as he imagined. He tilted his head when that didn't answer his question. "I still don't understand why samples need to be taken from me to create this thing. It's not like I have anything that would promote this growth."

Sumi was always happier with a straight shooter rather than someone who would beat around the bush.

"Oh it will be, don't worry!" she'd continue to type away, parsing through the data from the scans she had received to get a proper build going. Having gathered enough information on his physical characteristics from the scan she was working on creating the perfect fixture that would house the plant arm with the lowest margin of error possible. "Margin of error of 0.5%. We can work with that!" she grinned as she finished the specifications.

"It's all about compatibility! Generally, with a mechanical prosthetic, you wouldn't need any DNA, but this arm is going to become an extension of your own body. Think of it as a makeshift organ transplant. Your DNA being used to synthesize the plant means that your body won't reject it for one and that it'll only ever work for you!" with that she'd get out a sterile syringe from the desk and take a step forward "You ready? Don't worry, I've done this plenty of times. Just a quick poke and we'll be all set!"

0.5% margin of error on an appendage made wholly of flora? Even Elijah was surprised by that. One would think that something so advanced would have a higher likelihood of things going wrong. "Impressive odds." There was the unprompted compliment after all.

He didn't think compatibility was required in getting the arm to work, but the thought of it only being usable on him was a good one. With its ability to change size, it'd be more likely for it to be used against him than his regular prosthetic. Less unwieldy. Though the chance of rejection made him wonder about how the margin of error was so low, he trusted her judgement. Sumi was the expert here.

Elijah finally turned to look at the syringe. A sign escaped him. "Alright." He removed his hands from his pockets before pulling off his hoodie, revealing a sleeveless shirt and the prosthetic he's always had. A slight twitch of his eye was all Sumi would get from the hero student when his blood was drawn. While it was true that their department was known for its brutal simulations meant to prepare them for their introduction to the real world as heroes, it wasn't like it improved Elijah's pain tolerance. His quirk didn't give him diamond skin. He was still human. He still got hurt. At least it was just a simple needle.

He carefully put his jacket back on once the support student was finished. "It's fine." He knew what she was doing anyway. A warning would've been redundant.

Elijah raised a brow at the estimate however, wondering how a free schedule could cut down the work from one week to two days. Was she usually very busy and he happened to catch her at a good time? He decided not to ask, schooling his expression and nodding instead. "I'll be back in two days then. Let me know if something unexpected comes up, you have my number."

Tucking a hand in his pocket, he turned and made his way to the elevator that would inevitably carry him to the first floor and therefore the exit. As Elijah left, he raised his other hand farewell without looking behind him. "See you soon."
