People scream.

Their voices echo throughout the streets and into the ears of a nondescript security guard. Bernie’s Burgers, an American restaurant, closes in fifteen minutes. A man with tan skin, and littered with tattoos, looks at their boss. They have a silent understanding as they nod toward each other.

Bernard knows the deal. When there’s danger, he lets his security deal with it. It’s better than letting the danger come to him. Covering for property damage is no-bueno. Now, if things took a turn for the worse, then at least the city insurance would cover it. And his personal rates wouldn’t take a hit, either!

Antoine, however, only cares about one thing: changing the damn world. Heroes be damned, buildings be damned, laws be damned. He grabs a suitcase from the backroom and runs out toward the street. He travels through the alleyways where he has a chance to pull on the four-link chain from his abdomen. He dons on the skull mask and plucks the pool stick from the suitcase, combining two separate pieces into one, functional weapon.

Little does he know what lies ahead. An amorphous blob of pink and green hues that seems to be eating civilians indiscriminately. Not only can you see them melting, but you can hear them melting, too. If your ears aren’t deafened by their bloody screams, that is.

This was the place, and by place, Jo actually meant the area everyone was running away from in tandem with the blood-curdling screams. So you know something wicked that way goes, but for now, JoJo needed to find a place so that she could change into her 'outfit'. Can't exactly run on the scene in only regular clothes and nothing else, she'd be pretty stupid if she pulled something like that.

Heading into an alleyway despite everyone running down the street she found exactly what she was looking for, a dumpster. It wasn't gigantic, but it was big enough for her to fit her tiny self behind.

For now, while she threw on the makeshift suit, she thought more about the situation. So people were running and there was also a sound she hadn't heard before so that was definitely new. This meant jumping head-first into this likely wasn't the best choice. Despite wanting to help people this definitely wouldn't be as easy as the other situation she had found herself in a month back.

Now that Jo was properly tied down and her outfit disguised her completely it was time to figure this out. A tentacle shot from her wrist and using it as a whip she launched herself forward into the air landing atop the building rooftops.

After that she started her sprint forward, she likely only had so much time before heroes or police showed up and the less they knew about her the better.

Antoine works best from a distance.

While he’s no pushover in close quarters, few can best him in ranged combat. Given his exceptional perception, he takes the liberty of slowing down. The noises are around the corner. Horrid, gluttonous sounds of something inhuman. If he wants to leverage his surprise, then he needs a better angle of attack.

He scales the wall. Unlike others, he doesn’t need footholds. Antoine’s quirk allows him to create enough friction on the walls to walk up them as if he were defying gravity. But that’s not exactly the case. The forces of gravity still apply to the rest of his body. But with his natural affinity for balance and his supernatural strength, he can run up the wall in ways one might not expect.

When he reaches the top of the roof, there’s someone there. They don’t look like a hero. They’re in a disguise. And if they’re running toward this sound, then they’re likely here to help. He’s ready to put them down if they’re in control of the best but from this distance it was unlikely.

Antoine put his finger up towards his mouth. Shh. Then, he motions them over, so they can both look down at the beast below.

A pink, gelatinous cube is terrorizing the area. Within its confines is a car. Within that car, people. And if you were to look at the trail of mucus behind it, you’d see its acidic effects destroying everything it comes into contact with.

They only had seconds to act.

Jo's entire body was filled with adrenaline, that was until she came to a screeching halt seeing someone asking her to be quiet and to move towards them. Now wasn't a time for pleasantries, she could only assume this guy wasn't going to snap her neck, or at least hope for that.

Either way, she focused on the task ahead of them which seemed to be a monster straight out of an old creepy flick. Unforunately this wasn't VFX or anything of that nature, this was unfortunately real and lives were on the line.

Pink cube. Highly acidic enough to dissolve people and kill them, and there was a live car in the cube. Now if given time she'd probably be able to come up with something that would get them out and take out the cube. Unfortunately, there was only a teeny bit of time and she needed to act fast unless she didn't want these deaths on her head.

Launching herself towards the cube from her hands two massive tendrils spewed itself from her gut revealing her back for a moment. Now JoJo could usually make ALOTA hair quick but in this case, she needed to be even quicker and there wasn't time to see how quickly she could produce hair. Launching herself off and towards the cube the tendril was about as thick as her body.

The goal was to get the car out and push it out of the cube before the people were artistically and horribly destroyed. The second tendril was going to be used in case she needed to send herself flying back up into the air in case the cube had tendrils of its own.

The stranger jumped into action. Introductions weren’t necessary. No, it was more accurate to say introductions were impossible. With how high risk the creature was, they needed to act. And the stranger did just that.

She created two tendrils. Of what? He couldn’t really tell. Considering her exposed back, he assumed fabric manipulation. But if that were the case then why not carry additional fabric? The outfit may have provided specific protections while also acting as a resource. And it with how they plunged one of the tendrils into the pink cube, they seemed far more resilient than the average thread.

Antoine slams his cue stick against a pool ball, launching toward the exit point of the cube. The impact would not only create an opening but would have reduced friction allowing the vehicle to slide out of the monster.

There were still people scattered about but it was difficult to ignore a man in the corner, handshaking, holding a phone that he had come across before. You called them?

“Get them out of the car and to safety,” Antoine said. “I’ll keep the cube busy!”

He jumped off the building and into the air — it was solid. He jumped off and onto the wall, sliding down with far more control than one could presume was natural. Considering his form, everyone would know the ability derived from his quirk. But they wouldn’t know what his quirk was yet. And it was perfectly suited to not getting touched by this blob.

Spinning through the air and swinging by the cube Jo could only stare at the mass of pink. Something like this was usually something that everyone would laugh at and easily defeat in the shows. While in reality, she had to witness this thing dissolve a couple of humans, had she and Cue not reacted in time the car and its occupants would've been next.

In other words, if JoJo didn't take this seriously there was a chance she'd be one of the next to get stuck in the mass of pink death. Landing next to the car she could only hope they had insurance while she started ripping car doors off.

"Sorry, but y'all gotta go run, run that away, and keep moving." They didn't even need to hear the words coming from her mouth. Those doors went flying off and they started running ahead. Okay, that took care of them but there was still the massive murder cube to deal with...

That's when she looked back and her mind started to spin up a new idea. First things first, she needed to get this car back up to the rooftops.

If this acidic polygon were able to dismantle cars, then his pool balls would prove useless, too. In the same vein, if the creature could never touch him, then Antoine would be safe from its attacks. This was a stalemate — a war of attrition. But unlike the cube, Antoine had a competent ally. From a glance, he could see the fear in the man who called this monster. Their hands were shaking. And when Antoine made eye contact, they ran.

“I’ll have to chase him later.” He said aloud, fluent in Japanese. He had ten minutes before he lost his tongue, so he made the most of it. “I don’t suppose you can speak by any chance?”

No response.

“Didn’t think so. Not in that form.” Antoine continued to speak. “But you can understand me. So, I wonder… is this a transformation or a mutation.” He picked up his cue stick and kicked up two rocks that would float midair as they descended in front of him. “And if it’s the latter, would you like me to put you out of your misery?”

It didn’t like that.

As it let out a horrifying, gelatinous screech Antoine shot the rock at the edge of its… feet. Right, no feet. But there was a point where it made contact with the ground. The rock broke through and remained intact. And when the cube tried to move, it couldn’t. It was stuck there, immobile.

“I don’t know if you can control the level of your acidity, but the edges of your form are less potent than your center. If not, you would have dug yourself into the mantle of the Earth and died by now.” The creature growled as Antoine continued. “I cannot touch you. But I can stop you from touching. See that rock?”

It tilts its top down.

“It’s pinned you against the ground. You’ll never move again.” A bluff. Antoine simply used it as a catalyst for his quirk. By extending non-friction from the rock, the ground on the cube stood upon could not be gripped. It would forever try to move and remain immobile.

“Now, look up.”

Ya know, sometimes there was a definite reason for people to talk and continue talking. In this situation, it was wonderful for Jo who was able to climb up the side of a building while holding the acidic car.

The entire time she didn't focus on the conversation or rather distraction that happening between the two. Instead, she focused solely on getting up the side which wasn't the hard part. Lifting something the size of a car and lugging it up a completely vertical trek was the easy part.

The hard part was dealing with the cube of mass murder however considering time was limited she needed to think of a way to TKO that damn thing.

Naturally, there was no other idea except for the obvious coming to mind right now...and unfortunately, it looked like that was the way she needed to go.

So be it.

Gathering energy into her legs she launched herself up and above the cube. She only had seconds to react, one of her tendrils ripped off the hood of the car. It only took a couple second to rig the already melting car to explode and at that point she simply spung the car twice and sent it flying towards the cube.

Odds were it was going to be a big bang, so at that point she did her best to cover while falling. Odds were Cubey was going to have quite the sweet treat now.

Honestly? Antoine thought she’d drop the vehicle onto the cube. A simple, effective way to splat them across the area. With everyone evacuated, it’d be worth the damage if the cube couldn’t reform. But it seemed like she had other, more explosive ideas in that damn head of hers.

This wasn’t the first time he’d confront an explosion. Antoine had learned his limits when chasing down a cybernetic, baby thief. Yeah, it was complicated. But what wasn’t complicated was whatever protocol caused them to self-destruct upon failure.

Antoine pushed himself. He really pushed himself.

And even then, he almost met his fateful end. If it weren’t for Sada’s quirk, he would have died. Or worse, been arrested.

A reminder: there aren’t people. No one is at risk. Not directly. Not anymore. He didn’t need to create a dome of friction to slow the explosion so people could escape. Antoine needed to worry about himself alone. Using his massive strength to jump upward, he’d cling to the building and launch himself further.

Boom.

He can still feel the heat. The light is blinding. And his “partner” would notice the smoke bouncing against an invisible barrier. Then, it was over.

The cube was gone. There weren’t even guts left. It had evaporated in the heat. They had gotten the job done. More effectively than he would have imagined, too. It’s a shame the other criminal had escaped.

Well... Mission Accomplished.

Okay, maybe Jo had gone a little too far turning a car into a pipebomb and sending it flying, but let's be real here. That thing was scary, it had to be at least on the top three of the scariest pink things she had dealt with in her life.

Josephine was still high up in the air when the explosion went off and a glider of sorts was created under her arm and her legs to catch the wind of the blast and go flying forward. Meanwhile not to long after the blast you could hear the sound of both ambulances and police heading to the area.

In other words, it wouldn't be long at all before a pro was on the scene to assess what had happened. Landing further away from the initial blast she stood atop one of the small buildings and started to look left and right for the one that was with her before she decided to make everything go kaboom.

"Gonna be real awkward and existential if I somehow ended up icing him in all that."

Sirens.

There were always sirens.

Police were on the way. Even worse? Heroes. It was a matter of time before they swarmed the area in their childish costumes. Then the paparazzi would follow. It was a job. Someone had to do it. But the fact a certain type often found themselves in that position didn’t escape him. The kind of self-centered, attention-seeking child who sought the coattails of another, brighter star. Depressing, really.

With that, he departed. There wasn’t time to exchange contact information. The heroes weren’t here yet but he could feel the slug coalesce at the back of his throat. It wriggled as it crawled its way up, ready to free itself from its cage.

It was best kept secret. A creature that helped him communicate in Japan until he picked up the language himself. It doubled as an extra layer of protection from his civilian identity. But it got in the way of introductions — whoever this person was, and however extreme they may be, they might be another ally amid the war.
