She was starting to feel hopeful about this. If she had a proper weapon, there was nothing she couldn't accomplish! Sure, she would never be as strong as her quirked peers, but a proper weapon would go a long way in making her few strengths even stronger. It wasn't until Leonid spoke up again and weighed in that she realized she might have been a bit hasty, but... Armor? Now of all times? So soon? It made a lot of sense, but right now Freja felt like a fish trying to climb a tree. The way forward she envisioned for herself was a better weapon that could help her climb said tree. She couldn't deny that armor was important, lord knows her peers were a powerful bunch, but would that help her ascend? Wouldn't she just be a fish splashing around in a suit of armor. Sure, she would be able to take hits, but where would that leave her growth in other areas? She didn't want to become a glorified target dummy for everyone else.

Then again, the suit of armor would make sure she didn't accidentally break any bones during sparring matches with others.

Aaah!! What a pain in the ass! Did Freja really need armor just to be able to stand at the starting line with everyone else? Freja's expression had grown from hopeful to thoughtful. She was really mulling over this issue as she looked between Leonid and Ana. Unlikely scenario, but what if Ana like super started hating her and didn't want to make anymore gear for her after the first piece was complete? Armor or bat? What's more important? With her hand on her chin she thought about it one more time before turning to look at Leonid.

''T-Thank you for your input, sensei!'' She bowed deeply, wanting to show her appreciation all the more because- ''But I'm gonna have to go with the weapon first.'' She straightened her back again and turned to Ana. She had no clue who Gen was, but she liked that saying. Freja did want a suit of armor, but she was also a bit scared it would make her too soft. That getting one too early would make her unable to tolerate pain. It was a gamble and a half and she was probably making a mistake, but she was choosing to go the route of the glass cannon. ''You can make a special bat right, Ana-senpai?''

Ana’s smirk persisted, albeit a little lighter in what lurked behind its meaning. She had expected the girl to flounder spectacularly before caving into what the teacher suggested because he was the expert. The fact that she stuck with what she had originally wanted meant she had a backbone which would get her further than Ana initially expected.

That or she was stupid and just dismissed the advice of said expert.

Who knew!

But hopefully it was the former if she was going to be representing Ana as well through the gear she used. Regardless, they both had a focus now. Ana nodded.

“I’ll make one of the best bats you’ve ever seen.”

The manic energy Ana usually exuded was undercut by a far more serious tone than she had taken thus far. And then it disappeared almost immediately as she clapped her hands together again. “I have some ideas on how to do that! But is there anything in particular you’re looking for? It’s not explosions is it? Explosions are so overrated!” They were. She would stand by that. Plus, they caused collateral damage and Ana didn’t want to be on the wrong end of a lawsuit because an idiot misused gear she made.

“If not, then I will throw together a plan based on what I know about you and your situation! Since you are so simple, I recommend starting simple! I can always upgrade your gear to be more functional when you get accustomed to using it!”

When those words came from Ana, it actually wasn't hard to believe. To her knowledge she hadn't seen any of the genius's inventions in use, but with how she was being hyped up they had to be nothing short of astronomically incredible. It almost felt like cheating to know someone like Ana would be backing her up. Now it was just a matter of whether Freja could take it, whether she could pull her own weight in their little experiment. ''I'd believe it!'' Now that she was fired up she could feel herself actually believing in this thing. She just needed to work harder than she ever had before, Plus Ultra so hard that she would make Ana's gear shine and make everyone else thing she actually had a quirk! Something cool like that!

''E-Explosions? No way! If I were to use stuff like that, I would definitely need armor first.'' How could she best explain her idea? ''The problem with being a blunt weapon fighter is my lack of range. A bat can only reach so far, but...'' She held her arms out as if she was holding an invisible rifle. ''What if I had a ranged extension?'' She took a hit to her pride when Ana called her simple. It was one of those cases were Freja both felt insulted and relieved. On one hand, she didn't want any unnecessary attention, so being called simple was kind of a great thing, but on the other she also did have her pride, even if it wasn't much. ''I hope this isn't too complicated but.. A grappling hook bat! The top of the bat opens and a grappling hook attached to a wire flies out! I just aim it using the bat, I can use it for firing at an enemy as a surprise, or climbing walls, or...'' She was getting way ahead of herself before cutting herself off a she looked back at Ana. ''Is that too complicated? Simple enough?'' Surely a simple mind could come up with a simple idea. She just needed a genius to make it a reality.

In the first display of something beyond her grin, Ana’s nose perceptibly crinkled in response to Freja asking about ranged explosions. Fortunately for Freja, she continued on with her second idea. A more favorable idea. At least if you asked Ana. Which Freja did.

“It’s certainly better than explosions!”

Given that all the rooms as previously mentioned were laid out the same, Ana moved over to a supply cabinet and pulled out a sheet of grid paper and a pencil. “A grappling hook system is actually simple given your choice of weapon that will be encasing it,” she said as she spread the paper out over a table then began to sketch up preliminary designs. She stopped only to look up at Freja and ask a question of her.

“What is the length and weight of whatever you use now and does that feel balanced correctly for you?”

''..Huh? Right! I am staying away from explosions entirely!'' She accentuated the away with forming an X with her arms. She had probably been talking too fast again, her thoughts spinning out of control and getting ahead of everything else. She just wanted to propose a ranged extension to her bat, not give off the vibes that she was lowkey asking to become an explosives master! No way could a quirkless person get into something so reckless. She might be determined, but Freja believed it was important to know her limits too.

When Ana brought out the paper and started sketching, Freja was mesmerized by how automatic the entire process seemed. Like Ana had done this a thousand times already and could just get right to work, even as the guinea pig was still in the room. She even stopped to ask questions. ''Uh- length?'' She rubbed the back of her neck, she hadn't really thought much about it. ''Like a standard length for a baseball bat? But if it needs to be longer or heavier because of the grappling hook I can make adjustments, I'll just get stronger.'' Yeah! Can-do attitude! ''Right now... A normal baseball bat which is the one I'm using actually feels a little on the light side.'' She clarified. Was she helping? Was her explanation good at all? She looked back at Leonid for some kind of subconscious validation, but couldn't look too long since he was a living legend. If she looked too long she might go blind.

''Point is, I can take it! I'm not as weak or useless as I look.'' Whoops- not the accidental self-burn. ''I-Is this a rough sketch?'' She pointed down at the designs. Nice save!

Ana paused mid-sketch to stare blankly at Freja after the latter gave her answer on measurements. They had stumbled upon a topic in which Ana had even less information and experience than Freja. In no universe did Ana just know the standard length of a baseball bat. That would require her to care about the sport or anyone that played it and she didn’t. But now that it was necessary for research and development, that would all change.

She shook her head in disappointment, set her pencil down, then began to rummage through another drawer while Freja burned herself on behalf of Ana. She did love efficiency. “It’s a preliminary sketch, yes!” Ana pulled free a measuring tape and moved from the table to Freja whom she began holding the measuring tape up to and checking numbers for a minute or two before stopping and returning to her schematic.

“Okay! I need to do some back end research, but I think I have all the information I need from you for now! Come back later tomorrow morning and it should be ready for you to test!”

The shake of her head.

Had Freja said something wrong? Was it about the measurements? It's not like she could just recall how big and heavy a bat was and had those numbers on hand! She blinked her eyes when Ana pulled out the tape, confused for the first couple of seconds before she realized what was going on. It felt a bit awkward to not really be doing much. Like the teacher had put her and Ana in the same group for a group project, but Ana was the one doing all the work while they split the credit. She knew that wasn't exactly what this was, but she felt just as useless.

''Wait... Really? Just like that? You can have a prototype ready by tomorrow?'' Wasn't that like, crazy soon?? Hold up- Ana was getting her sleep right? She wasn't going to all-nighter for something like this was she? Freja wanted the equipment soon so she could get used to it, but like she wasn't racing to meet a deadline or anything. ''..If it's too much trouble you can take longer, I don't want it to affect your free time and your sleep schedule.'' This could also just be one of those scenarios where her brain was thinking way too far ahead again and running with too many assumptions. Maybe the way of the genius was just getting minimal sleep, or maybe she had proposed a design so simple that Ana could in fact get it done in under 24 hours. It all just seemed so insane to her.

''Well in any case, I'll leave you to it then!'' She looked at Leonid if he was still there, then back to Ana. ''Good luck! And... Thank you.'' She bowed her head politely, heading right for the door after.

If Ana was the kind of person that rolled her eyes, this is where she would have done so. “It’s just a bat!” Sure, Ana could make a really cool bat. She could make an even cooler bat that Freja was requesting. But it was just that. A bat. This one didn’t even require any actual tech components or electrical work. Which was the only reason Freja wasn’t having to sign an NDA for it. Ana could have probably literally built it in her sleep! Probably. If she could sleep walk and sleep with her eyes open or something.

“Now shoo, shoo,” Ana said after Freja finished her goodbyes. But not just to Freja. Ana also motioned for Leonid to leave. “Oh, but both of you come back in the morning! She’ll need someone to test it on!” Ana’s continued grin confirmed that the test subject would not be her.

Once they were gone, she got to work. Research on baseball bat dimensions came first. Adjustments were made based on Freja’s notes about the length and lack of weight for her preference — an issue that solved itself with the addition of a grappling hook system in its core. Which was the second round of research.

Admittedly, this took longer for Ana than the bat portion. Chain physics for maneuverability was an issue unto itself. The type of links, their proportions, material, etc. It all had a noticeable impact on how the chain functioned. Then the hook itself needed to be easily collapsible yet stable when deployed. Ana looked at so many hinge types that even her odd eyes started to feel the strain.

It was just going to be an all nighter.

Good thing there was no curfew.

Well then, his own apprehensions for the practical side of what Miss Helt was suggesting or not, Leonid had to admit that as he leaned back and listened to the conversation being had, he was enjoying what he was hearing. The both of them were putting their heads together, discussing wants and needs, matching what Helt had in mind with Borovsky's capabilities and engineering mind - This was exactly what he had hoped for when he had thought of the idea to put the two of them together. This was good.

So, when he was rather haphazardly shooed out of the workshop - Even if it did prompt a tinge of irritation, that was not the tone he'd expect to be taken with him - he simply stood up and and moved to leave alongside Helt, giving Borovsky a nod and a small chuckle at what he imagined to be a joke. "Oh, most certainly, I wish to see how this progresses myself. But I would hope that UA is well-funded enough to afford some test dummies for the purposes of testing support gear, and not be in such a sorry state that teachers would need to substitute the role, no?"

...At least he assumed that it was a joke.
