I remember this one time, when I was real little-" Jun continued to talk Kaida's ear off regarding various family stories. There would be no set timeline and unlike Jun explaining the universe of 80k or some other franchise, there would be no chronological order. When it came to Jun's family, Kaida was always reminded of how stark the differences between them and hers were. Kaida's could be explained on a simple basis, only because she never wanted to talk about it; that being their pure evil and selfish traits. Whereas Jun's, she felt as though there was so much going on that she couldn't keep up with. The mutual disagreements between family members, but nonetheless harboring love for each other, was such a foreign concept that all the senior could do was merely hum along and listen.[break][break]

She doesn't understand, not fully. But seeing the excitement on Jun's face, such a rare sight to behold, Kaida didn't dare spoil a moment of it.[break][break]

It sounded like it was going to be one hell of a holiday. She might get to witness an across-family throw-down with Jun's in-laws, and Kaida doesn't know if it's something she's looking forward to or not, because all she's going to be doing is standing there awkwardly while they shouted at each other. Then again, it could be pleasant. She didn't know what to expect.[break][break]

Jun grabbing Kaida's hand snapped her out of her thoughts, the dragoness looking down in mild wonder at their intertwined palms as her best friend pulled her along, finding no reason to not go along with it. When they eventually came eye-to-eye with Jun's family, Kaida would bow slightly, ever the traditionalist. "It's nice to see you again." She said placidly.

Once their luggage was secure and they were in the backseat the face of Kazuto, a tense look on his face. "You failed to notice my ambush, Jun-bug. 36 damage to the tank!" Jun's jaw dropped, almost immediately pulling out her phone and scrolling through previous messages. "NOOOOO! I cannot believe you've done this to me!" Kazuto, smirked, reaching back to pat Jun on the head. "There there. You can't win them all, now can you?~" Looking incredibly pleased with himself, he'd shift around to look at Kaida, his smile turning more normal. "Sorry for not greeting you sooner! It's wonderful to see you again, Miss Kaida!" Jun's mother, Misaka, would be in the passenger seat, glancing back slightly at Kaida to give her a slight nod of recognition. "Miss Kaida," she says, turning back to look out at the road. There would be a hint at trepidation on her face, though Kaida would be able to determine it wasn't directed at her; with how her husband was, Kaida could deduce that dealing with his family was not going to be a fun experience. While Jun sat there processing her loss, leaning against Kaida in the process, Kazuto would begin to drive off. "Fair warning, you two, both of my brothers will be able to make it this year, including their kids." "Ah, so bringing the locks were a good thing," Jun says, looking up at the dragon. "Haruka and Daiksuki were the troublemakers I was telling you about. One year they went through the entire house, top to bottom, and dragged everything out. Grandma and Grandpa were furious. But uh, we'll have to keep an eye on them. Isamu you won't have to worry about, he's real bookish and not real social. His dad is the one that works for the JDF." Kaida Ikarashi

Jun's family seemed to be an absolute maze of people— every turn she took, there was someone new mentioned. In her family, she had just been limited to her parents and siblings as the main branch. There were some side-family branches, but none ultimately bore fruit as the main family was the only one meant to prosper— the one person from the side-families she had ever gotten to know well enough was her cousin and maid, Ai. Her father was from the main family, whilst her mother had been nominated from another clan to intertwine with theirs, her mother's ultimately becoming obsolete.[break][break]

It's not like she considered them family, so there wasn't any point thinking about it. She only cared about her sisters, anyway.[break][break]

"How devilish of them." Kaida commented, her thoughts seemingly elsewhere as she nodded, merely staring down at Jun as her friend seemed to be in imminent despair. "Most of your father's side of the family seemed deeply linked in the defense of Japan." She added. "How far does this occupation go back, if I can ask?"

"Well, the simplest explanation is we know we've had some relatives fight during the second world war," Jun says, getting off Kaida as she sat there, thinking. "Naval service. We know two ships for sure, and we suspect at least two others. Unfortunately, we don't know anything before that and we can't find any records, and it's even harder to trace our legacy back in pre-Meji times." "Jun is convinced there's samurai in us somewhere," Kazuto chuckles, glancing back. "Unlikely, though." "Ninjas, Dad. I'm pretty sure we come from ninjas..." she says, looking away embarrassed. "I just...don't have the evidence to back it up. Yet." And so went the back and forth for the next twenty minutes. During that time the pair would be asked about school, interesting going ons, and the like as they drove into a more remote part of the district: a small house that wasn't too far away from the lake. Upon arriving, there would be two other vehicles parked in front, with Kazuto laughing nervously. "Well, it looks like Yasuko did decide to come..." Kaida Ikarashi

That node of thought made her think about her clan's own origins. As with Jun's father's side of the family, there were no records of any Ikarashi Clan— purely because they were a clan formed from the yakuza rather than ones of noble origins. There was no blood relation at the beginning, but a sense of comradery and general good-will, the complete opposite of what they had devolved to today. It was odd to think that, once upon a time, her family had the population's well-intentioned interests at heart. Kaida continued to stare at Jun before averting her gaze. Were any of Jun's family members like that?[break][break]

The mention of ninjas snapped Kaida from her detrimental thoughts. "Ninjas?" Kaida parroted, amused. "With how often you trip over yourself, I wonder..."[break][break]

A well-meant jest from Kaida. She glanced up at the house, eyeing the cars and looking to Kazuto. "Has Yasuko done something to earn your ire?" She asked after observing his hesitancy.

Securing luggage and heading up to the door, Misaka glanced over at Kazuto, asking, "Do you think Mina managed to secure time off?" "I doubt it," he says, knocking on the door. Kaida would notice Jun's eye twitch, looking around. "Touma and Mina, from what I understand, have a working agreement. I think after Yasuko that one time-" The door slid open with incredible speed, and standing in the doorway was an older woman who was much shorter than the party present. Her eyes, a golden hue in color, scanned over everyone before settling on Jun, pointing a sandal at the redhead. "YOU. If I catch your name in the news like that again, and you don't call me soon as you're well, you better hope your daddy has the common decency to put you in the ground before I get a hold of you!" She'd stalk out, past Kazuto and Misaka, coming right up to Jun as she was petrified. There would be obvious tension in the air...that was, until she draped her arms around Jun's neck and dragged her down to her level. "Ohhh, thank the Buddha that you're alive and well..." she says, rocking Jun back and forth, clearly in some level of pain but would managed to eek out, "Hi, Grangran...I can't breathe, let me go-" "Hi mom!" Kazu says, waving and acting just as cheery as ever. "This is the friend we told you about, Kaida." The lady turned, keeping her vice grip on Jun who flailed a little in the process. "Ah. I recall now," she says, finally letting her victim go and dusted herself off. "Hayami Kanjo. Junsuina, do you vouch for this young lady?" Jun coughed a little, red in the face from embarrassment before bowing. "Y-yes ma'am, I do. She's a good friend! And sorry I didn't call, it kinda slipped my mind..." This didn't drag down the woman's name, though, and with a broad smile she'd begin ushering them all inside. "Excellent! Come in, come in! Kazzie, Mimi, I need your help with the yokai Benjiro have unleashed in my house. Junsuina, Miss Kaida, your room has been prepared and is the last guest room on the second floor." Kaida Ikarashi

Kaida followed Jun's lead up until the front door burst open, stopping and watching the interaction between her and the family member unfold. Whatever was happening here wasn't her place to intervene, although the senior did eye the sandal in the woman's hands warily. Who's to know what she could do with that thing?[break][break]

When attention was brought to her, Kaida immediately bowed at a decent angle, ever the traditionalist. "Kaida Ikarashi. Nice to meet you, please take care of me."[break][break]

She followed into the house last, still not entirely certain of her surroundings and the unfamiliar people she didn't know much about— as antisocial as she was, it would take time to get used to them, no matter how friendly they seemed. "Thank you," Kaida said to Hayami before looking at Jun. "where should we go next?"

Kazuto and Misaka would be ushered further into the house, but Jun and Kaida would be left to their devices. She took a deep breath, slowly letting it out. "Well, let's head up to the room! It's probably the best one in the house, and it'd be good for us to set our things down before dinner," she says, taking Kaida's arm and leading her down a hall directly to the left, a set of stairs going up to the second floor. It was hard to tell if it was Jun's nostalgia talking, or if it was objective, but either way Jun was taking point. The second floor would be relatively cramped, but there was clear indications of the four rooms that would be up there. Going to the very end, she'd take hold of the handle and begin to open it. "There's a lot to do nearby, too! We can go fishing, swimming, hiking, we can maybe go by the festival nearby but only if you really-" A small shower of glitter landed on top of Jun's head, a series of flashes blinding the pair as a series of laughs came from two kids in the back of the room, both of them looking like they were getting into their preteen years as they had a series of cameras set up. Jun's expression faded from gleeful to confused to pure unadulterated rages as her gaze fixated on these two, the older being a boy and the younger a girl. "You dirty, chaos causing, POOZERS don't seem to realize that you've pissed me off at the worst possible time!" Dropping her bags, she'd lunge into the room to seize upon the closest hooligan, only to be evaded. The pair had grabbed as many cameras as possible and began to make a break for it, only to put on the breaks upon seeing Kaida barring their way. Kaida Ikarashi

Kaida watched in the same wonder she did whenever someone made physical contact with her as Jun took hold of her once more, by a person she didn't mind touching her. Of course she would act like that. She was the pinnacle of civility in her childhood— nothing but graciousness was expected of her when it came to being an Ikarashi, in a social standing, that was. Being comfortable with a family member or friend on such a personal level was so foreign to her she couldn't help but be childishly curious when it came to affection. [break][break]

As Jun listed off a myriad of activities, her thoughts stuck on one thing. Festivals meant people. A lot of people. She didn't like that, because the stares of which she was so used to felt particularly scathing as of late. Swimming meant getting in a swimsuit and revealing all the scars on her body. Nope. "Fishing?" Kaida parroted, tilting her head. It was something she hadn't done before.[break][break]

Stopping in the entrance, the senior glanced around the room before her gaze landed on two children, of which Jun immediately started yelling at as a rainbow of colours exploded in her vision. She surveilled in mild amusement, glancing down at the pair of misfits, her expression softened considerably. "Perhaps you should apologise before she shackles you to your beds?" Kaida suggested.

"You aren't the boss of me!" she says, taking in a deep breath. She was about to scream something out, but Jun tossed her up briefly to clasp a hand around her mouth. "I will shoot you out of a cannon into the deepest part of the lake if you try me." This would get a reaction out of her as she squirmed, the brother attempting to fight back as well. "This isn't fair, Jun-chan! Let us go!" "I'm going to go take these two downstairs," she says, looking at Kaida. "There should be sleeping bags in the closet." "Hey, we got dibs on this room!" "Then let's present the case to Grangran and let her decide," she says, giving an apologetic look to Kaida as she'd scoot into the hall to take the pair down, kicking and scream as they went. Kaida continued to look on the scene with mirth swimming in her cold gaze, moving to make way for Jun and following behind the trio. She would watch the pair of children fondly as they didn't immediately decide to judge her based on her appearance— even going as far as to act like normal kids would around adults. In the process of everyone being downstairs, Kaida would get to meet many of Jun's extended family: the infamous Yasuko, who would be pretentious and despite the evidence be unhappy with Jun's handling of the kids, Jun's uncle Benjiro, who was married to Yasuko and apologetic for their antics (but taking no measures to correct them beyond, "Go play outside"), her other uncle Touma and his son, Isamu, both who seemed to be more stoic than the rest, Hayami's niece who seemed more than a little bemused of the chaos taking place in the house, and finally Raimoto, the head of the household. He was an older man, boisterous and a little loud. Something that Kaida might find familiar. Regardless, with the case presented and Jun and Kaida getting the room, the rest of the evening went uneventful. There was of course the cleanup in the room, then dinner, where the family talked about ongoing events, projects, and the like. Benjiro Kaida would learn was a civil case lawyer, along with Yasuko. Youma would be connected with the military in some way, but that was much more nebulous; apparently everyone understood what he did but never elaborated. Then again, he provided fewer details than Benjiro did about his job. With all that was taking place, and things getting late the first day out for everyone ended relatively uneventfully (though between Youma and Misaki the two troublemakers were dealt with properly). With everyone turning in for the night and the sleeping bags laid out, Jun let out a sigh as she was prepared for bed. "Well, this day wasn't as stressful," she says, getting up and going to the window. "I promised I'd tell you what was so special about this room, right? Well, c'mere." She opened up the window, the summer breeze beginning to fill the room. Through the open window would be a view of the lake, with a half moon and stars lighting up the sky. "Growing up, Gramps would, right before I went to bed, show me all the stars and stuff from here. Especially after I unlocked my quirk...everything kinda made me gunshy...but this view always put me at ease." Jun seemed to be fairly relaxed as she looked out at the scene, seemingly mesmerized by it. Kaida Ikarashi

She went along with her friend, meeting all unfamiliar family members like she had with Jun's grandmother with a placid face, not betraying the uncertainty she felt. When she looked close enough, she still saw sprinkles of glitter shining in the dying sunlight. The moon shone down on them, ultimately breaking Kaida's vigil of silence. "You never told me, not fully." Kaida said, looking at Jun with muted curiousity. "How did your quirk appear?"

"I'm told I've always had an overactive imagination...I guess that's what happens when you have tons of stories both from your family and copious amounts of reading material." She took the chain off, holding it out so Kaida could see. "Technically, I was a late bloomer. I didn't discover my quirk until I was eight, but I think it's because I didn't have this. I got bullied a lot for 'not having one', and despite all efforts to figure out what it was, all it took was a day where my parents weren't home for me to get into Mom's jewelry box to find out..." She sighed, looking over it. The stone would be obviously missing. "I was pretending I was a hero out of the comics, shooting lasers and stuff from this ring. I didn't think it was a big deal, and I intended to put it back once I was done playing. Only the emotions I was feeling at the time were very real, and so was the cannon that I summoned in our living room. I blew a massive hold in the wall of our apartment at the time..." She lowered her arm, sorrow etched on her face. "It's why...I'm afraid of my own potential. I'm not like other people who can treat their quirk like a literal muscle, I have to both control the muscle and my own emotions. If I don't, then the damage I can do...catastrophic. I made a promise to my mother that night that I'd never use it again...and because of that promise, I sat by while several friends died and one who was supposed to go to UAU get paralyzed from a blow that was meant for me."
