[Sadako Gotoh]

She had been working hard all morning to pretend like it was just another day at the Ouros Agency. Trying her best to hide her ulterior motives from her unusually sharp coworker and business partner Iphigenia. Today was July 15th, a special holiday where people gave their superiors gifts. Well, not everyone did, and Sadako always felt awkward receiving presents, but she didn't miss this opportunity to use the day as an excuse to get her best friend some goodies. Work had been nonstop lately, and she figured even if Iphi wasn't her superior she might still end up liking the gifts. No way she could return them anyway.

With her gift boxes all wrapped and ready, she wrapped them to her back under her blazer using her quirk. ''Iphi! Do you have a minute?'' She knocked on her door and walked into her office. ''Sorry to interrupt you, do you know what today is?'' She hoped she didn't walk in on her making some major breakthroughs in one of their cases. ''Well, I know you're not really my superior, but you're good at stepping up and being the boss, so I'm giving you something on a technicality.'' With her hands behind her back she smiled. ''Left or right?'' In the past when she had done something like this, Iphi would be spot on guessing which hand the gift was in. Her secret trick this year was having tied the little gift boxes to her back with her chains, the hands were just misdirection all along! Could she outwit Iphigenia this time?

Always one to celebrate the holidays to honor her heritage on her dad's side, Iphi had planned to honor Sadako with a gift. She was only younger by a few months, so she figured it was close enough. Plus, who didn't like to receive a present? Things had been really busy lately, and they hadn't had much time to just hang out with Iphi in her office during paperwork after their last collaboration with another agency. The knock at her door was followed by a 'come in!' as Sadako walked in. Perfect timing as Iphi had her gift wrapped up in her desk.

"Chugen, of course." She'd point a finger to her temple with a soft smile "You know I thought the same thing. You may stink at the paperwork but you're the heart of our agency and I couldn't do this without you!" She'd pull the wrapped gift from her desk and place it down. Taking a minute to eye Sadako and her posture, she knew her best friend well enough that this was definitely a trick of some kind. The weight displacement was off enough that it didn't look like she was actually holding anything in either hand, a good effort but if anyone was going to figure out the trick it would be Iphi "I'll take the one behind your back, that was a nice try Sada" she'd laugh before gesturing for Sadako to take a seat and sliding her own gift across the desk. "Mind if I go first?" she said with an eagerness that she rarely showed anyone except those she was extremely close to. Jupiter-sized brain, or otherwise Iphi, was very sentimental.

''H-Huh? Wait no way! You got something for me too?'' That she considered her the heart of the agency was enough to make her own heart melt. Still, her question remained. Left or right? It was a dirty trick question considering both options she had provided for Iphi were wrong, meaning the game was rigged against her from the start. Sorry Iphi, no hard feelings, but if she wanted to bamboozle her she had to pull out all the stops and-

Did she just say behind her back? Had her trick already been exposed? Her face turned red as she laughed back. ''Didn't get away with it, huh? I expected nothing less of you!'' She grinned, showing her hands to reveal both were empty, but then using her chains to roll the gift out from under her blazer and into her hand. ''Sure!'' She sat down and put her gift on the desk as well. ''What a surprise, I wonder what you got me? ~'' She took the present Iphi slid towards her and looked down at it for a beat, before looking back at her best friend. ''Is it okay if I open it here?'' She really had no idea what to expect of Iphi. She had known her for years and what she learned about her was to expect the unexpected. When she first met her she had the same impressions as a lot of people might. That she's a genius, but also a little distant and someone who doesn't care too deeply about others. That simply wasn't the case, in fact it couldn't be further from the truth. Minus the genius part of course! She was undoubtedly really smart, but her heart was just as big as her brain.

''Here's yours, you've earned it.'' She giggled, sliding her gift for Iphi across the desk.

"Of course I got something for you. I might be the one who does most of the paperwork around here, but you're just as much a leader of the agency as I am." Sadako may have acted like more of an employee than a boss but she was still incredibly valued as a partner and a friend. Iphi honestly doubted she could have done any of this without her help.

She would open the gift once Sadako took a seat, unsure what she could have possibly been receiving. Sadako may have been terrible at hiding her intentions but she was weirdly great at picking out unique gifts. Perhaps it came with being a counselor? Either way Iphi would unwrap it, revealing a box which would have a puzzle ring "Oh! This is super cool. I'd heard of these but I've never seen one!" she would slip the ring on and fidget with it until the top would open up, revealing a holographic interface which prompted her to solve various puzzles and quizzes that were to get progressively harder and harder over time. "I love it!" she'd deactivate it and take the ring off the put it back inside the box "Now your turn"

She only believed it when it was Iphi saying it. She didn't at all feel like a leader, but she took some of the workload that she was better suited for. If anything, her and Iphi were just highly optimized. Iphi often handled a majority of the paperwork and really nerdy stuff, but Sadako often spoke to the press, having a knack for knowing to say what they wanted to hear without putting their agency in a bad light. It helped that she was a counselor at UAU as well, and well-regarded on her other job too.

She watched with anticipation as Iphi opened her gift. She wasn't exactly bad at giving gifts, but one of her worst fears was giving a disappointing gift, especially to her best friend. ''You like it?'' She perked up as Iphi interacted with the ring, doing all sorts of things she didn't even know it was capable of! When she had picked it out, it was because she knew Iphi loved puzzles and it was something that could keep her mind occupied, but also wasn't just more work. ''I thought it might be something for you. ~'' She smiled, looking down at her own present. ''I wonder what you could have gotten me.'' Only one way to find out.

Unwrapping her gift she picked up two tickets to a play. ''Are these tickets to a play?'' Her eyes were practically sparkling, then the implication dawned on her. ''D-Did you intend for me to take him?'' She blushed, smiling back at her. ''That's so thoughtful and sweet!'' Who did she usually hang out with? Taking someone to a play, it would either have to be Felix or Iphigenia. ''Thank you, can I give you a hug?'' She stood up and walked over, stretching her arms out to hug her.

Her quirk was a mutation which meant that even when she didn't want it to, her brain would connect the dots and determine patterns that sucked the fun out of being surprised by the twists and turns of these things. "No, Sada we've been best friends for a decade I don't think we're quite there at the point of hugging. Not like we haven't a billion times before" she'd take a step forward to initiate the hug and when they were finished she'd take a seat before moving on to a topic she couldn't help but be curious about "So, how are things with Felix? Getting any closer to actually asking him out?"

''Now that you mention it, in all the years I've been showing you horror movies you always predict the twists before the end.'' Iphi's mind was truly, well, mindboggling. Wasn't it annoying that she was always so good at predicting plot lines? Could she even read novels for fun? The puzzle she had bought for her wasn't even for your regular puzzle enthusiasts, it was advertised as being insanely difficult, only something a real brainiac would enjoy.

She got a little flustered when Iphi started teasing her for asking for a hug. It was pretty silly considering how long they had known each other, she couldn't even explain why she had asked other than it just felt right to ask. ''I just wanted to make sure! I didn't want to hug you unprompted if you weren't in the mood.'' She stuck her tongue out at Iphi briefly, before laughing it off and returning the hug. ''With Felix?'' She smiled, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear as she sat back down. ''He invited me over to his house on a date.'' She looked down at the table shyly, trying to downplay her excitement. She didn't want to get her hopes up too high only to crash and burn. ''Things are going... Great! Slow, but I think we're getting back together. I-It's complicated!'' She apologized with a little laugh. ''People always are.'' She'd know all about it considering her job was trying to understand people so she could help them move forward in life. ''Do you have any other plans for the holidays? I'm looking forward to our mountain trip.''

"Honestly it's a blessing and a curse. Fantastic for test taking and doing detective work, but when you can always see patterns it means once I learn the formula, I can't really unlearn it." she was a bit distracted now that both gives had been given as she was fidgeting with the puzzle ring as she was eager to solve it when she had the chance. "When has an impromptu hug...no wait when has an impromptu hug from YOU ever been a problem for me?" she didn't like being touched by strangers or people she wasn't friendly with, but who did? Sadako wasn't exactly a stranger at this point in her life it was as if she had another sister.

At the mention of Felix Iphi would break out of the puzzle solving trance and refocus on the situation at hand. It was truly a marvel to watch someone who was so good dealing with the emotional spectrum to the point where she was the counselor of UAU of all places, struggle to navigate a relationship. She would place her head in her hands and lean forward listening keenly to the details that Sadako was privy to share. "An invite to his place, huh? Now you're making some real progress. Did you stay the night??" it was very rare to see Sadako flustered about interpersonal aspects of her life that Iphi couldn't deny that she wasn't having fun poking at that part of her life "A counselor telling me that a personal relationship of hers is complicated? It's like finding a unicorn." she smirked playfully in her direction but didn't resist at the change of conversation topic "Other plans? I'll see if I can convince Aella to let me buy her dinner. That girl is stubborn, but she does always soften up a bit around food." with a bit of a devilish grin she would flip the conversation around "So what are your plans with Felix this holiday?"

She blurted out with an apologetic grin. She wasn't saying what had happened outright, but it was clear as day from how poorly Sadako hid it. Not that she could ever really deceive Iphi. Besides, she hated lying in general. ''It's totally different when it's other people and their problems.'' She sighed, sinking into her seat a bit. ''Felix and I go way back, I was younger then, said a lot of dumb things to him that still keep me up at night. I apologized for it, but it feels like it's not enough.'' When Iphi mentioned her plans she smiled. ''Sounds like you and your sister have a lot in common.'' It was her turn to tease her friend back, but her question was almost immediately reversed on back to her. ''I- uh I'll ask him out, probably. He might be busy and I don't want to bother him all the time. In any case, I'm looking forward to some time off.''

"Honestly, you get used to it. Not because she doubted it, she had just never really sat down and thought about it. ''No way, I was once of those who had to study a lot.'' She chuckled, ''I'd have been so jealous of you if we were in the same class.''

She didn't know what to say as Iphi stuck her tongue out, other than laugh and do it back at her. ''You think so?'' She folded her hands on the desk. ''Maybe I am. All common sense goes out the window when it involves him. Like I can't think straight at all.'' It was a good thing it didn't interfere with her work too much, or it might prove troublesome since they shared workspaces. ''I hope he has, but I don't blame him if he hasn't. He doesn't owe me that.'' She shrugged casually. ''You too, huh? I'd love that, I was just thinking there's this great place on the corner.'' She grimaced when Iphi mentioned her boy troubles and blushed, insisting as they headed out of the agency and onto the streets of Tokyo. ''I don't have boy troubles!''
