Khepri's tail swung back and forth as they sung a cheery tune. The very one blaring from a small radio strapped to their side, albeit Khepri themself was singing it at a slightly different speed. Twisting their foot to bury the front of their shoe beneath the sand they flicked it and the fancy seashell that was now on top of it up, causing the shell to land atop the usherette tray they were carrying. With a few adjustments to the dials atop the label maker they pulled out of their pocket and a squeeze of the trigger Khepri slapped a price tag atop the spiraling seashell. With the scavenging session finished and several more knickknacks sold to some of the beachgoers Khepri returned to Bun's stand, putting the tray down atop it and switching out some of the wares. For others they simply swapped the position without moving them off the tray or the stand, merely adjusting their position in whatever way they believed to be the right one. Their head tilted left and right while they took up position next to the stand as if they were a member of the King's Guard. Khepri wondered what those noises they were hearing were. It sounded very, very different from the noises they heard before. Ah! The radio was out of battery. It wasn't lyrical noise anymore, just ambient noise. That explained it. The Moon Rabbit! Good god she hated the beach! The ocean was just right friggin' there and it felt like it was taunting her...but the suckers who went to the beach were too good to pass up! Plus, someone actually wanted to work with her at the stand, so she definitely wasn't going to turn down the opportunity to set up shop and see how many suckers she could scam some yen out of! See, the handy help of the feline-like Khepri was going to make this an absolute breeze...they seemed to have a pretty good eye for objects that would entrap the attention of those around them, plus their colorful view on the world would make selling crap sooooooo easy! Some may call it the ramblings of a crazy person, but Bun called it advertisement potential! A happy, cat-like smile graced her features as she touched up the stand's shiny table cloth and glimmering net. The folks who were worried about the increased shark attacks were too paranoid and sharp for her liking, the idiots who still came despite the uptick in violence from the devious ocean were the ones on her get that shhhhhhhhhhmoney list! When Khepri came back, she'd be sure to play along with whatever madness they had to drape the world in. The price to pay was minimal and honestly? She wasn't exactly opposed to their company, either...they made things more entertaining. With a soft little gasp, she brought her hands up, resting her palms against her cheeks as she chirped with delight, "Bweep~! Good work, Khepri~!" With a bemused chuckle, she slid her hands down to lightly clasp them together, though the momentary white noise made her eye lightly twitch. Something about the ambiance of such white noise tickled her brain...and she didn't really like it. Thank freakin' goodness the out of this world question distracted her from it all, "Mmmmmmmm..." Parting her hands to gently rest the tip of her finger upon her chin, she lightly tapped it in thought... "I think so! Bweep~! The fae would be the types to trick a human into thinking they came up with something great, only to get us all used to the allure of a mystical portal's appearance~." Moving her finger away from her chin, thoughtfully speaking each and every word as though it was completely sincere, waggling it lightly in the air, "When they want to transport a human to somewhere else? It becomes easier for them since they think it's just pretty bath bomb water!" Snapping her fingers with a bright smile, she emphasized the next point with jazz hands, "Poof~! They got a human and into their realm they go for funsies~!"This was good material for sure! There were totally some crazy bastards who wanted to get whisked away to the fae's court... ....and then there was some dude with god's emptiest head stare she'd ever seen just....watching them. His ice cream melting as it rolled off the cone, those lavender optics followed its little roll upon the sand and she lightly patted the table, "Bweepbweep~! Mesmerized by the beeeeeaaaaautiful shells before you~?".............................. "The very shells that will grant you the blessings of Poseidon, himself~?" "Who?" "I mean Suijin~! Blessings from Suijin come complimentary from the purchase of these shells~!" With that, the man with a thousand yard stare dropped some yen on the table and scooped up some shells before walking away. "Uhhh...we're gonna need more shells..." Divvying up the yen, she glanced over towards Khepri and shuffled their share right on over...holy crap, they needed to work with Khepri more often! |

Khepri happily nodded along to Yue's words. Then they kept nodding even after the words ended, this time in agreeing with their own thoughts. "They are tricky like that, nothing about the fae is easy to figure out. I saw one this one time and asked the school nurse what her name was and she said it was 'Miss Mafdet, that is not a fairy. Miss Taiyou's quirk allows her to change her size.' which is a really long name and even has my family name in it! So weird."Once Khepri finished arranging the placement of the wares -and the drink bottles, now located somewhere between the wares- they raised a thumbs-up in agreement and headed back to the beach to find more shells. Spotting a glint in the distance they happily skipped their way there and tried to hook their toes beneath it only to bump into something solid. "Hmm, you're not an empty shell are you? Oh! You can't answer me like this can you, shells don't have mouths. Hmm, how do I talk to you?" They asked the glimmering shell while they bent their legs and brushed a bit of dirt off the shining item. Pulling the crab out of the ground their brows curled into a frown. "Oh hey, you can reply to me! It's very rude not to, mister crab." Khepri could tell it was a mister crab on account of the long beard it had. Putting it down on her tray they slapped a slightly more expensive tag onto it. Not too expensive though. After all, it was a very rude crab. She plucked several more shiny shells off a small whale-walrus hybrid dragging its way out of the ocean using two extremely long, spindly arms before she returned to Bun once more. "Here you go!" Khepri happily said while handing things over to Yue one at a time. "This one's all spirally. This one glows in the face. This one's rude. This one fixes itself if you accidentally break it which I didn't do on the way here. This one gives your thoughts a different accent. I don't know what this one does but I blinked while holding it and suddenly there were more footsteps behind me. This one-" The half-cat half-bug continued chattering away as they slapped price tags on stuff -often stuff that already had price tags with different numbers on them- and handed more things over, utterly oblivious to the gradually increasing chaos around them. ------ Tags: Yue "Bun" Tuzi |

The Moon Rabbit! "Clearly it's a cover-up job by the government,fuu-fuu~" Smirking like some sort of smug cat, she'd bring her sleeve up to partially cover her mouth as a few more snickers escaped her. Honestly...feeding into some conspiracy theorist's...well...conspiracy...was a bit fun. Whether or not it was too much fun would be up for debate, however, she'd bust out an amusingly small pair of opera spectacles as their partner in scams went off on a magical journey. Trying to take a better look around the beach for some chumps to scam... ....but then as she watched the ocean, there was someone cruising it on a unicorn floaty and then when she blinked...they were gone...? Huh... Was she tripping the hell out due to not drinking enough water? Who the hell used unicorn floaties in this day and age anywho? As a bead of sweat rolled down her cheek, she closed up her opera spectacles and tucked them away before getting out a bottle of water from the cooler. Cracking it open, she'd take a few sips before the corner of her mouth lightly twitched upon the timing of Mafdet's return. Though she turned as a burbled chuckle started trying to escape and--YUP! A SPIT TAKE LAUGH! Sniffling and coughing as she recomposed herself, letting out a wheeze as she stared at the new layout of wares...inspecting them and...oh god, were they REALLY re-doing price tags?! ...wait. Did they say something about extra footsteps because of one of those shells...? Blinking a few times, she had a staring contest with the rude crab how had the beard of a hermit... ..................w-was...was that normal? Arching a brow at the bearded crab, she then carefully reached out to grab the shell that was said to repair itself...lifting it up only to smash it down upon the table as those curious lavender optics took in the site of the fragments twitching only to bring themselves together like nothing ever happened. Before she could even suggest that they need to sell this bad boy for waaaaaaaaay more, when looking back at the cat bug...that's when she noticed people were starting to vacate the beach in more ways than one. Some by choice...others by force because they were getting chased by some fish with jellyfish-like frills and long, human legs can-canning them away. What the rootin' tootin' tarnation hell? Admittedly, it's been a pretty damn long time since she'd been to the beach but... "B-bweep...is...is this normal...?" ...and was her mind startin' to sound like a cartoon-y cowboy?! Fanning her hand before pointing behind the cat bug of U.A.U with an air of reasonable concern amidst the mess of confusion going on in her noggin. |

Khepri considered Bun's question for a moment before answering. " No but it happens a lot."The sheer amount of weird things they'd ran into ever since they got to Japan was staggering. Not that there had been that much less in Egypt but Khepri had certainly gotten surprised far often over here. Their brow furrowed. Maybe it was just the cultural differences. Perhaps they themself were considered just as out of the ordinary to the people of Japan as the human faced crab or crab faced fish with legs sashaying sideways as it chased a screaming couple. Khepri could relate to that. They'd had occurences as well where they were just on a chill evening walk until all of a sudden people stood up off their couch and screamed at them, completely blotting out the sound of the movie they were watching. Even when Khepri themself was so nice as to grab the remote to turn up the volume until they could hear it again the people rarily stopped being afraid until their walk took them out of the house once more. Idly Khepri wondered whether crabfishlegs felt the same as they did when that happened. Taking a sip of the flask they just pulled out of their shirt in order to derail the thought train they offered it to Bun as well in case she was thirsty. Should she accept she'd find it was filled with broccoli cheddar soup. "Do you think fish would buy shells as well or do they already have enough of them back home? The Moon Rabbit! Slooooooowly blinking a couple of times, it started to click as to just how much weird shit she'd seen in her life and... ...this was pretty par of the course in some instances. Maybe it was something weird like an influx of tourists from some country or island she'd never heard about? Cause Khepri had a point, this wasn't necessarily the norm, but it's not like unusual nonsense was non-existent and by jove were they going to rake in whatever yen they could! Besiiiiiiiiiiiides, it seemed like the fish were just doing typical tourist things, trying to overrun the beach and so on so forth...at least that's how the bunny-like merchant rationalized it for now. Not even thinking twice about taking the flask, "Huh? Oh! Thank you..." Sounding a wee bit like a space cadet lost in the abyss of meowter space, she took a sip and paused for a moment. Rapidly blinking as she wasn't totally sure what to expect because Khepri is as Khepri does, but they didn't come off as the type who would try to secretly poison her. There were some she wouldn't trust worth a damn, but Khepri was okay in her book! After her taste buds realized what was going on with the mystery beverage, she took another sip because you know what? Khepri keeping broccoli cheddar soup in a flask seemed par for the course on a day like this. The human faced crabs were singing, a star fish was blooming... ...passing the flask back to her cat-bug buddy, she couldn't help but grin with sheer delight! "Ya know what?! Let's make this stand mobile!" Clenching her hands into fists she lightly wiggled them up and down, "I'm sure we can make a quick pile of yen if we can keep up and who knows! Maybe even the fish folks will see a neat shell they don't have!" Quickly moving her hands around, the planks shifted around and changed so that it would look...more like a sled if it merged with a food stand. Rubbing her hands together, she made two net bridges and attached it to the front, "Khepriiii~! Will you guide the sleigh-thing-a-ma-jig and use your super cool legs to catch up with our future customers?" Shuffling into place juuuuust in case, she batted her lashes with the sweetest smile whilst clasping her hands to add on to the awww adorable approach she was going for, "I'll get you premium bathbombs~They had suckers to get money from! |

Khepri's eyes dilated as Bun put on her cutesy act, the catbug's predatory instincts set off by the prey animal behavior. With an unblinking stare their eyes locked onto Bun's own before the woman's words pierced through the instinct induced haze and her focus shifted to the crowd, eyes flicking to each possible target in turn while their posture lowered as if they were about to leap. Khepri only narrowly managed to turn back to Bun before her instincts fully took over, their sharp teeth showing as they replied. "We'll catch up in seconds. Hold onto the stand and don't be sled astray."
The words were barely out of their mouth when they burst forth, one net bridge wrapped around each of her forearms. Khepri hadn't been exaggerating about the speed as they reached the first potential customer in seconds, her pace slowing to match theirs in order to keep pace with them as they ran. Their predatory instincts howled at them, urging them on to continue chasing all the running targets in the distance. For several more long seconds Khepri managed to control themselves before they sped up once more, navigating around obstacles and sand piles lest they end up sled and buried. Over and over the scene repeated itself as they raced down the beach, keeping pace with humans and sea critters alike for as long as they could before chasing the next target. With how often something lashed out or suddenly diverted course their way they sled a fine line between profits and debilitating injuries. It would surely end up fine. They'd ran many times before without getting injured or crashing a sled attached to them. Which might have been because they'd never pulled a sled but who could say, really? It was good, honest work as their family's patriarch used to say when he got drunk and derisively pretended to be a farmer -or peasant as he called them too-. Khepri thought for a moment. What was the other line he used when mocking the labor of the downtrodden? Ah yes, they remembered now. All in a sleigh's work! Or something along those lines at least. It was only much later that Khepri realized the net bridges had gotten loose and the sled left behind at some point. By the time they did they'd covered so much of the beach they didn't have the slightest clue where they started nor where they'd gotten separated from Yue. Judging by the position of the sun in the sky it'd take quite a while to get back too. Khepri shrugged. It'd be fine. Another sip of their now cold broccoli cheddar soup assured them all would be right in the world. They let out a content sigh. Well, not much else to do about it. Turning on their heel Khepri headed to the nearest bus stop before ordering a taxi. Their legs were hurting far too much to walk all the way from wherever this was all the way back to the dorms. Taking the public transportation form that wasn't public seemed like a much better solution. They nodded to themselves. That sounded about right. Besides, they'd be coming back here soon enough anyway so they could always try walking back next time to check if the other option was better. They lost their usherette tray somewhere along the way and they were determined to come get it back sometime within the next few days so long as they didn't forget by the time they get home.
