An older tradition that had fallen to the wayside was Iphi and Sadako taking a trip to the mountains for some snowboarding and skiing. After their first year, this had been the trip that really solidified them as lifelong friends with them repeating the same trip every year until they graduated. Some things changed after school with them joining Ouros and then working at UAU, so for the last few years they hadn't gone.

With the extra staff they had at Ouros now was the year that Iphi insisted they go once again.

With all her gear in the trunk of her car she'd hit the Bluetooth on her car and dial-up Sadako "Sada! I'm outside your place, do you need a hand bringing your stuff?" she wasn't sure if Sadako had ended up keeping her snow gear from years ago but she secretly hoped she kept it. After their first successful trip Iphi had gotten a picture of the two of them celebrating and even though it had been nearly a decade since then she kept her same jacket from that first trip. It had seen better days, but the sentimental value of the jacket made it priceless. To her, it was the easiest way to express how much their friendship meant to her without outright stating it.

''Already?!'' She had the phone pressed between the side of her face and her shoulder as she still scurried to grab the last of her things and put her jacket on. ''No it's okay, I'll be right there!!'' She was so excited she hadn't been able to sit still all morning. When was the last time her and Iphi had really taken time to themselves to renew their mountain trip tradition? Neither of them could have predicted how busy hero life would get after graduation, but at least it was starting to feel like they had found their rhythm, and with extra staff at Ouros they had more free time than ever before.

Same jacket, same snow gear, Sadako emerged from her apartment and waved at Iphi before turning to lock after herself. ''Do I just put it in the back?'' Once her gear was all loaded up and she sat next to Iphi she smiled and handed her a thermos. ''Tea? It's a homemade family secret recipe.'' She had a thermos for herself too, something to keep them warm as they got up into the snowy mountains. ''I'm gonna be honest, I'm probably a little rusty.'' She chuckled. ''I haven't done any snowboarding since the last time we went... Several years ago by now?'' She took a small sip of her own thermos. ''The city really swallows you, doesn't it? Before you know it years have passed you by and you've hardly taken any time to relax or go out and see the world.''

"Sure thing, I made space." Iphi had taken all of her gear and made it as compact and neat as possible to minimize the amount of space that her stuff took up. Not that Sadako wasn't organized she just didn't want anything to delay or derail their trip! "Ooh I'd love some tea!" she graciously would take the thermos and take a sip before placing it in the cupholder as they had a little bit of a drive "I'm rusty too Sada don't even worry. Not like I've gone snowboarding since we last went! But isn't that the part that'll be fun?" she'd put the car in gear as they took off headed towards the ski area.

"Agreed. I never imagined we'd be so busy, but with all the new people coming to work for us and even the students wanting to intern here its a bit surreal. It feels like just yesterday we were getting our own hero license, and now we're leading our own agency." after some time, they arrive at the ski spot. It was busy as ever with tons of people of all ages enjoying the holiday. Finding a place to park, she would get out, taking her thermos with her as they prepared to unload their stuff. "Wow, this place hasn't changed at all. You ready?"

''It is.'' She grinned, happily handing her the tea. ''Two oldies in the hero business testing out if they can still balance on well enough on their feet to go down a mountain safely.'' She took a small sip as she listened to Iphi talk. ''Right? We're relatively new to the hero scene and yet sometimes it feels like we're being treated as veterans. As for our popularity...'' She grinned smugly behind her thermos, before pointing a finger at Iphi and giving her a small wink. ''I bet you're driving up the interest! Who wouldn't want to work closely with Recall herself? That's a huge career boost for anyone!''

''Ready as I'll ever be!'' She stretched her arms as she got out. ''Now that you mention it...'' From the parking lot to the trail heading up, had this place changed at all since they were last here? ''Isn't it kind of like a time capsule? Almost like time hasn't passed since we were last here.'' She stood there for a moment, just amazed at it all before she grabbed her backpack. ''How confident are you in your abilities? Are we going to the intermediate slope, or the beginner slope first?'' She smiled, thermos in hand and her equipment on her back. ''It's funny, I never thought to come here alone.'' As they started their climb she started feeling sentimental for some reason. It wasn't that she didn't have the free time to come here, but there was something about it that just didn't feel right unless she did it with Iphi, unless it was for the sake of their fun little tradition. Besides, if she wasn't going somewhere with Iphi, she was most likely taking her sister places or going on dates with Felix. Rin wasn't the snowboarding type and there was a plethora of other, more romantic things she could do with Felix in the city.

"Oldies??" a flare of emotion came up as Iphi's normal neutral expression became more animated. "We're only 28! I resent being called an oldie." she would give Sadako a nudge with her elbow as she loaded her gear onto her back, and they'd begin their ascent. "I don't know about you, but I still workout daily. I could do a black diamond if I wanted to, but we can do the easy course for your sake." They'd get to the ski lift and begin their ascent up the mountain.

Back home, Aella and I were always dealing with a Mediterranean climate, so our winters were more wet than icy and snowy." as they rose it would get colder and colder so Iphi would pull up her scarf so it was covering her nose and mouth "I know you're the odd one out, but I'm guessing because of Rin and your parents quirks that you guys don't mind the cold? Rin told me that she still gets cold even with her quirk." they were about a minute from the top of the slope and Iphi couldn't help but be excited. Sure, she was rusty, but that didn't mean she wasn't looking forward to this!

Sadako laughed and took the little nudge, she deserved that. ''I know right?? The students keep saying I'm old and maybe that mentality is rubbing off on me.'' They always said it as a joke, but were they wrong? In a business so dangerous how many truly made it to retirement? She didn't want to dwell on it. Theirs was a new profession anyways, not like they had been around for long enough to even have heroes that old. She let out a silent gasp at Iphi's words and put her hands together as she smiled. ''You saw right through me! I'm no risk taker, can we start on the easy course? Once I'm warmed up we can conquer the pro slopes.''

Not only was she getting to hang out with her best friend, but she was teaching her some interesting facts about her home in the process. ''Oh really? I can't imagine winters without layers and layers of snow.'' She took a sip from her thermos and looked over at Iphi as she started bundling up. ''Not as much. I still get cold, but I guess my tolerance is a little different. Us Gotohs are naturally cold, even if my quirk doesn't reflect it as dramatically as Rin's does. I practically grew up around chronically cold people so at a certain point I started building a tolerance. Don't get me wrong, I still prefer staying warm.'' She took a moment to enjoy the view as they climbed further and further up. ''Did you ever go skiing before coming to Japan? Did you have the mountains for it back home?''

"When I was really young my parents took me and Aella to The Parnassos." she paused before realizing Sadako probably had no idea what she was referring to "Mount Parnassus is one of the biggest mountain ranges in Greece. They have a ski resort in the winter, I was only 11 so Aella has no memory of this given she was a literal baby back then." the lift would finally come up to the point where they would need to hop off and began their descent.

"That was faster than I remembered." not true as it was the exact same speed from her memories of the last few times they were here, but it felt like it was in a way. The beginner hill didn't look too tough and Iphi would pull down her goggles over her eyes and wait for Sadako to get herself situated "I'll see you at the bottom!" in a rare show of competitiveness, she would kick off and began her descent, weaving in and out of the people in a rare display of athleticism. After all, snowboarding was easy if you could see that it was just a combination of math and physics!

''Oooh I see! Like the Japanese Alps. They took you when you were pretty young then.'' Sadako stretched her arms as she hopped off the lift, it all felt so familiar she couldn't help but feel incredibly nostalgic. Did any other place in Japan make her feel this way? ''Right? Do you think they upgraded it since last time?'' Did lifts ever get upgraded to go faster? It didn't sound like a huge priority, but Iphi really did have her convinced they had ascended to the top faster than usual.

With one glance she put her snow goggles down over her eyes taking in the sight of the hellish beginner hill. Could she conquer it like she had done so easily in the past? ''Huh? Iphi! Wait for me!'' She chuckled, standing upright and leaning forward to chase after her friend. She always got blindsided by her like that, but loved every moment where Iphi was cutting loose and not thinking about work or secretly doing work. Sadako was off to a rough start, having her arms outstretched to try and better balance herself, but her muscle memory kicked in and soon she had gotten the hang of it, weaving around people while maintaining a safe distance.

As she kept on Iphi's trail she looked at a tree they were about to zoom by. She remembered falling here the first time her and Iphi came to the mountain and feeling so embarrassed that she had slipped and fallen in front of her friend. That was back when little mistakes still made her embarrassed around Iphi. ''Don't think you're going to win so easily!'' She called after her, grinning. Iphi was absolutely going to beat her at this rate, but she still wanted to keep up the guise of competition to keep things exciting until the end.

Time and time again, Iphi's competitiveness would shine through. This was especially true when she was around people she was comfortable with, and there wasn't anyone more privy to that fact than Sadako. Being able to shed responsibilities for the first time in a long time and hang out at a spot where there was a very small chance that she'd even be recognized just meant that always being cognizant could take a huge break.

Moving a little quicker now as she crouched slightly to increase her speed. She would turn back to see her best friend struggling to get stabilized, but ultimately, she was able to straighten out and pick up the pace. It would be plenty easy to make it to the end at the pace before Sadako was even halfway down the slope, and for a moment, she considered it! Instead, she'd kickback on her board to slow herself down until she was at pace with Sadako "A good friend once told me that 'Once you have decided that winning isn't everything, you become a winner.'" she'd smile with her eyes knowing full well that Sadako was the one to tell her that after Iphi was knocked out of the 1v1 battle portion of the sports festival. She had been so crushed and frustrated that she cried when she got back to the locker room only able to be brought of her spiral by Sadako's encouragement and that exact quote she threw her way.

So, finishing the race together was a no-brainer for her. Once they got to the end, Iphi would brake and then pull down her mask so she could be heard properly. "Although we're a few years rusty, I think that was a pretty good run! I very much expected one of us would fall at start." she was already ready to go again even though they had all day. "Wanna try intermediate? After that maybe a quick cocoa break." Sadako would be able to see the cold getting to her as her cheeks were a bright pink, but she was raring to go! It was the start to one of the best days she'd had in a while.

Being Iphigenia's best friend she often felt like no one really knew her bestie. The Iphi she knew was night and day different from the one that circulated in rumors. It had started back in their student days and while it had gotten better, journalists or other nosey people occasionally asked her what it was like to be business partners with someone like Iphi. Maybe it was because they were so different, but Sadako always felt that it was in these differences where their friendship really shone. They also had a lot more in common than she had first thought. At a glance, if they hadn't been roommates back then, Sadako might have thought Iphi was hard to approach, but she was glad she wasn't. She was glad that they were zooming down snowy hills, upholding their silly traditions and being competitive over nothing.

''No way!'' She chuckled, adjusting her position slightly so she didn't lose her balance. ''That means you're winning already, I never stood a chance.'' She teased, loving that Iphi had taken those words to heart and that they were getting to the bottom at the same time.

''Right?'' She pulled up her goggles and let out a relieved sigh. ''I thought it was going to be me for sure.'' She smiled at Iphi before nodding her head. ''Intermediate and cocoa? Sounds perfect, I feel fired up after conquering the beginner hill!''

Words Sadako probably wouldn't have spoken, had she said them from the top of the intermediate battlefield they now stood on. There were still plenty of people here, although less than on the beginner one. Everyone seemed to go down it so effortlessly and wait a minute... Was that a child?! Some people really were born natural talents. ''See you at the bottom!'' She smiled at Iphi before pushing ahead, taking the plunge first this time.

Even looking at her Iphi could tell Sadako was going along with her suggestion for her own sake. She wasn't even shivering or red in the face, unlike Iphi, who could already feel the cold infiltrating her jacket. The curse of having a body genetic predisposition to Mediterranean climates! She had never been more jealous of Sadako's family lineage and resilience to cold than that moment. Even still, she was more than happy to go another round. It was nice to be free of responsibilities for once, even if it was only temporary!

"This one will be good!" she said, mostly for Sadako's sake. From her perspective, this hill was no different than the first one aside from fewer total people. There were still tons of families going down at their own pace and perhaps a little arrogant of her to think but all of these starter hills looked a little too easy. Sadako would take the plunge first this time as she was feeling empowered after the last hill; she didn't fall! Which was great! Iphi would take a moment to take in the fresh air. She was cold but she felt extremely at peace. Before setting off to catch up with her best friend, she had only one thought in her mind;
