Not that home security would deter a group like the Spiders all that much, but every measure taken helped. It was like online security. A hacker could feasibly overcome most forms of security, but they weren't likely to try if you made it more of a pain than it was worth. Tomio couldn't defend himself, but if they knew there was a security system in place, then they would know the moment they nabbed the old man or something of the sort, they would have the authorities and heroes soon after.
