Tokyo Bay had really turned into a hellscape in a matter of hours and it seemed like she wasn't going to be able to escape any time soon. She had come here alone because it was the place in Japan that felt the most like home. A walk by the ocean where she could feel the sea breeze and hear the waves and clear her mind, the way she used to do back home. When the monsters first emerged she ran and hid, only fighting back where she had to. Then a giant monster showed up and chased her in the direction of some crazy woman who threw grenades everywhere. It was insanity, but at least she was still alive. Longing for a break, she wanted nothing more than to curl and cry in her dorm bed. Through all the carnage she thought back to that night with Sumi. It was nice. If she hadn't gotten sick and made Sumi take care of her it might even have been perfect. If she lived through this, she wanted more nights like that. ''Run!!''A mother picked up her son, no older than four and turned and ran the other way as Freja stared down some kind of mutated hybrid anglerfish gorilla. She was bruised all over and had tied a red, decorative scarf around her arm. She used to love wearing it, but she loved bleeding out a little bit more than any attempt she tried to make at being fashionable. Looking up at the monster, her eyes locked on the glowing ball attached to its antennae... thing. Was it a weak point? A weapon? Before she could really think about it a giant gorilla hand came slamming down on her position, she only dodged it narrowly. It was selfish, but she wished Sumi was here. She didn't want to put her life at risk, but she knew that Sumi was strong, and that she could help her out of this hopeless situation. If only Sumi was here, or any other of her friends. Ylva Riis

[break] [attr="class","nikki109"]A day away from Andy meant Ylva could do whatever she wanted for once without any supervision. No narcs or any buzzkills to keep her down. Of course this meant her actually going out to do something and in this case she was basically flipped a coin. Tokyo Bay was a historic site of industry and she had never been. Shiketsu was always so far away from some of the more populous areas so after some deliberation she decided to take a day trip. The peace and quiet along with the freedom to do whatever she please was very much overdue.[break][break]
Was she born under some unlucky star?[break][break]
By the time she arrived the place had devolved into pure chaos. There were these weird fish monsters running around and destroying things. Surprisingly her first instinct wasn't to act or even to leave as she still wanted to see the sights otherwise what was the point in coming all the way out here? She did have to shoot a quick text to Andy 'There are monsters here. I'm authorized to use my quirk so I'm gonna do it. Make sure to take responsibility for any damages I make. - Y' and she would turn off her phone so Andy couldn't object or tell her to stay put for backup.[break][break]
As she made her way down the street at a leisurely pace, which was insane given the circumstances, she would take it all in. These were definitely sea creatures as she could feel denser pockets of moisture all around her that she'd only ever experienced at places like the aquarium. She would pass a frantic mother clutching her child as they ran away which meant that in that direction she could cut loose. The idea of making Andy fill out a buttload of paperwork was too good to pass up - she was super annoying and this was payback. As she approached Freja who was battered pretty badly she'd give a quick up and down over the gorilla thing before lifting a hand and concentrating. From Freja's perspective, she'd see the gorilla anglerfish shimmer with diamond dust for a moment before freezing it down to its core. This was always much easier the more satured things were and oceanic life was filled to the brim with water. Assuming the creature didn't break free she would make her way past Freja and continue down the path heading towards the sounds of more chaos and destruction. She had bigger fish to fry...well freeze. [break][break]

She flinched when she saw the shimmering diamond dust and for a moment she considered hitting the fish where it was appearing. ''I-Is that it's quirk?'' She was still wholly unaware of Ylva's presence until the anglerfish began to slow down due to her freeze. Once the second year student walked right past her it was kind of hard not to notice her. She was a hero student, no wait she was- That girl she had a really awkward encounter with at the barbeque. Cringe filled her brain as she thought back to how terribly their first meeting went. All thanks to her own lack of social skills. Snapping out of it, she called out to Ylva. ''..Thank you!'' Why was she still walking? Like she was completely ignoring her. She wasn't hurt either, not from a quick glance at least. Could it be that she didn't know how dangerous it was here? ''You shouldn't go that way, it's dangerous! There's monsters all over.'' She started following Ylva, but before they could get too far the anglerfish monster stood back up, letting out a roar to demand their attention. ''Look out! This thing has crazy reach-'' Before she could finish her sentence the ball in front of its head lit up, turning into a ball of fire that shoot bursts of flames at them, like a flamethrower. It was stupid, but her first instinct was to dodge towards it, rather than away. She did use a bat after all, so her effective range was always going to be up close and personal. Taking a swing at one of its legs, she did basically nothing except for draw the monster's ire. ''A-A little help here?''Whipping its head back to Ylva, it fired another spray of flames at her, trying to incinerate her on the spot. Ylva Riis

[break] [attr="class","nikki109"]Upon closer inspection during her passing it was the girl who tried to make small talk at the BBQ that Ylva was very much not into. She had made their encounter super awkward and frankly Ylva wasn't interested in trying to recreate that. Still it was a time where some communication was required as she would probably actually getting into trouble if she let another student die while she was around - especially when they were her junior. [break][break]
"I'm not going to let a freshman die. That would take away from my standing at the school." she wasn't going to stop walking unless she really had to. If she had wanted to avoid the danger, she wouldn't have continued on her path. Well the monsters resurgence was definitely a good way to get her to stop. Her shoulders would slump a bit as she turned around to engage the creature once again. [break][break]
"If you're that injured go take a seat somewhere." she said flatly as the fire came towards her. A classic matchup that for most people would be troublesome, but fire combined with the ice generated from her quirk just gave her more ammunition. She would use her knowledge of Glaciology to freeze the moisture from the ground up in front of her forming an ice wall that she would reinforce with another if needed. Assuming the fireball just melted the wall this just gave her more moisture to work with. Without skipping a beat she would immediately go on the offensive, this time freezing the space above the creature to create an ice block that would drop on its head if it didn't move out of the way. If allowed Ylva would do this again and again until it either go wise and moved or she ran out of ammunition. It wasn't any less awkward for her, but she mirrored Ylva's sentiment. She wasn't going to let her upperclassman die. Granted, it wasn't for her standing with the school, but more if she did she probably wouldn't ever be able to get over it. ''I don't want you to die either, I-I don't want to die! Let's both get out of here alive!''She absolutely should take Ylva's advice. Fall back somewhere and get some rest, but it was precisely because she was a hero student that she couldn't. She was making a difference out there, no matter how small. How many people would die if she hesitated? If the number was higher than one, then her presence out here still mattered. She covered her eyes as Ylva was about to be roasted alive, only opening once the ice wall between the student and the monster started to melt instead. Wait. Ice? Like that attack she used against the monster earlier? She was fighting fire with ice? And WINNING??? Freja heard the first ice block slam into the top of the creature's head, causing it to stagger from the blow. Ylva was doing serious damage, but one strike wasn't enough. Neither was two. On the third one, Freja noticed that the monster was about to move and sprung into action, dashing up to the front of the monster to hinder its charge towards Ylva. Instead of letting it bulldoze down the street, she took aim and fired a grappling hook out of the tip of her bat and straight into the beast's eye, keeping it in place as it put a hand over its eye and took another ice block to the head. Freja smiled confidently, and was even tempted to look over her shoulder and smile at Ylva too, but before she could the Anglerfish's ball of fire lit up again, this time dropping little, laughing fire sprites onto the ground. The only thing she could compare them to was the fire imps that the Inferno had created back in spring. She hadn't been a part of that attack, but had heard witness accounts and had been glued to the news right after the incident. Some of the little miscreants clawed at her, but most of them tried to rush past her to get to Ylva who was perceived as a much bigger threat. Ylva Riis

[break] [attr="class","nikki109"]Oh good Freja was naive and presumptuous. What a fun combination. "Nothing here can kill me." she'd respond flatly as she had much bigger aspirations and goals then to become fish food. If Freja wasn't strong enough to keep up or smart enough to take her advice on the matter than it was her funeral. As long as she had undeniable proof that she did try to help her out whatever state she ended up in didn't matter in the long run. Survival of the fittest was the only thing that mattered.[break][break]
Her assault on the creature had some effect, and clearly, it made the creature realize that there was always a bigger fish. In her case, she just happened to be the smallest one there. Frejas intervention didn't receive any outward praise from Ylva, but it did give her another chance to get another strike in. She was deceptively strong as she was able to hold the creature back from charging her and with a modified bat nonetheless. [break][break]
Still unperturbed as the fire sprites entered the fray, if there was one thing Ylva was extremely confident about above all else, it was her ability for area denial and crowd control. Her methods were brutal and, at times, disregarded the safety of those around her, but in this case, there was enough distance between her and Freja that it wasn't a concern. Well, it never was but she couldn't get blamed for it later. As the fire sprites charged she could use the water on the path in front of her from the earlier fire breath to rebuild small walls, just enough to stand over the fire sprites as they charged. When they ineviabty made it through the walls she would use the water as it feel as a point to freeze the fire sprites entirely one by one and then would stack more ice on top of them by rebuilding the ice the more they struggled by refreezing the moisture over and over again. They had the numbers, but she definitely outclassed them in stamina. She'd very slowly move her free hand up again this time taking the anglergorilla, who had proved more durable than expected, and changing up her tactics. Instead of forming solid ice over his head she'd form what were essentially stalactites that would rain down like spears in an attempt to puncture the creatures thick skin.[break][break] [break] [attr="class","nikki103"]WORDS | [attr="class","nikki103"]@pharaohleap | [attr="class","nikki103"] MUSIC |

Nothing here could kill her? She didn’t doubt her skills, but Ylva clearly hadn’t seen what she had seen if she was unironically saying things like that. Oh and look what’s this, the anglergorilla from hell was pulling out another insane trick to kill them. She evaded the fire sprites that came for her, but they were flaming hot. That much she was certain of. Taking an attack from one of these things probably wouldn’t end well for either of them. If only she was closer to Ylva, maybe she could help protect her. Her quirk favored range, right? That’s all she had seen so far. Which meant she was probably in trouble now that the minions were swarming her. By some miracle, Freja managed to swing her way through the sprites that were on her, turning to help Ylva just in time to hear the sprites squealing around her as they were taken out methodically. The creature slowly tried to recover again, but it was on its last leg. The stalactites would prove far more fatal against it, and as they sank into the beast it roared again, the ball of fire flaring up one last time for a final attack. It would probably have gone off had Freja not managed to destroy the ball with her bat as she leapt up with a running start, smashing it into the ground where it broke like glass. Panting, she looked at Ylva and reached out a hand. “Please, fall back with me. It’s not safe here.” Ylva Riis

[break] [attr="class","nikki109"]Ylva hadn't even begun to exert herself. It was summer, they were by the water, and fighting creatures that were made up of more water than most things, so she barely had to use any extra energy to get through this.[break][break]
Freja on the other hand was looking a little more ragged. She was bruised, bloodied and clearly on her last legs just like the anger anglerrgorilla. At least she was smart enough to get out of the way of the ice falling as it pierced the skin of the creature easily. These things were resilient to blunt damage but pretty weak to piercing; good to know. Like they always did, it prepared a last-ditch effort before it went down, and Ylva was building up energy to cancel out the blast by freezing it beyond the surface level and instead taking every ounce of moisture in its body and turning it to ice. [break][break]
Before the clash of the elements could even occur Freja, in spite of her body that looked like it was just thrown from a moving car, managed to destroy the orb on its head resulting in the creature collapsing from the strain. With no chance of any further fire Ylva was left to her own devices and she fulfilled her promise, freezing the creature in its entirety to the point where its wounds stopped bleeding as they'd been entirely frozen over. [break][break]
The irony of Freja's plea that it wasn't safe and they needed to fall back when she was the one who looked like she was about to die and Ylva was unharmed made her roll her eyes. They weren't friends, and they were barely acquaintances, so Ylva would just stare, refusing to take her hand, and instead pointing in the same direction, she saw the mother and child running earlier. "I'm going. If you keep going, you'll die, so I'd go lay down somewhere. You were warned, so whatever happens after this is not my business." Freja was a hero student as well so Ylva felt no need to assist her to safety. She had plenty in the tank to spare and if the level of these creatures was anything like the one they just killed she really didn't have anything to worry about. She was beat. If she stayed here any longer she would definitely die. At worst to one of the creatures, at best she would simply bleed out or collapse from exhaustion. She looked over as Ylva dealt the final blow, putting the anglergorilla on ice. After a move like that it was safe to say this thing wasn't getting up again. Maybe it was naive of her to extend a helping hand towards Ylva. She had been cold and distant towards her in their first meeting, but she hoped it was just a bad first impression, and that Ylva really did just need someone to reach out to her. The hope quickly drained from her eyes when she heard Ylva's response. She wasn't going to talk back either. For starters, she didn't have the energy to, but Ylva was also right. She needed rest, she needed to get the hell out of here. Her senior was unscathed, but it still pained her to see her walk all alone into this warzone. Who knew if she would even see Ylva again? What if this was the last time anyone saw her, and Freja was the one that could have made the difference to pull her back out before it was too late? Whatever. She didn't have it in her. She had to pick and choose her battles and she had saved plenty of civilians today. There were already heroes in Tokyo Bay, and other students too. Ylva wasn't going to be alone, right? Retracting her hand, Freja turned and started limping down the street in the direction the mother and son had ran. ''..Take care, there's no end to these things.''Maybe she could find a better way to befriend Ylva when all this was over, a way that wasn't awkward, or in the middle of a fight. Ylva Riis
