Everything was black.

There wasn’t an instance of thought in the void. And by the time Zipper realized she was in a void, she was coming to. With a few blinks, the light strained her eyes. The ceiling was unfamiliar and she swore she had been outside only a moment ago. The world is blurry, the room is quiet, and as she squirms around she realizes she’s in a bed.

“Where am I?” Sitting up, she looks around. The smell of food had disappeared — she hadn’t even had a bite. The last thing she remembered was Kaida.

Speak of the devil.

As she turns, she sees her sitting. It all comes rushing back to her. Very gay to meet you. Kaida was very gay to meet her, too. Her face red, Zipper lays back down ready to faint again. The infinite futures narrow into a world where they’re together, have a family and are running the convenience store.

A ring… Zipper thinks to herself. She searches herself. I need a ring.

So, she wasn't very in tune with anyone modern. That was obvious.[break][break]

It was inevitable. She was raised in isolation, only to do the bad deeds she was made for, and only that— she had only ever seen her elder siblings use a mobile phone, not touch one herself. Kaida was a far reach from that, and an even further reach from social media; she knows what gays are, but doesn't know anything about them. Is it a new greeting to signal that you're gay, she thought. Or is it a new meme she's not aware of and simply had go along with it, she thought. Or is she just stupid and out of the loop? Three very real possibilities. [break][break]

She doesn't think much of it. Kaida can only hope Zipper will forget about her and move on with her day, just as Kaida inevitably would.[break][break]

"Hey." Kaida said. "You're finally awake." She looked at Zipper, discerning that the junior was looking for something. "What's wrong?"

Zipper knew Kaida was there but thought she’d go unnoticed for whatever reason. Considering no one else was here, and Kaida had taken Zipper to the infirmary specifically (because they were both gay for one another), she should have known better. Frantically searching? Stupid… stupid!

Zipper leans back into the bed, pretending to be asleep, and then wakes up slowly after a moderately long, awkward pause.

“Nothing’s wrong beautiful,” Oh no. Mouth. What are you doing? “If anything were wrong, it’s that I don’t have you lying next to me.” Her eyebrows wriggle on their own. WHAT THE FUCK! “Thank you so much for taking care of me… but how about…” A wink. “I take care of you?”

She snaps out of it. Her face is red. Not flush, not reddish, but an entire block of red light with how embarrassed she was at herself.

“I’M SO SORRY!” Zipper’s lost it now. “It’s just I’m gay for you and you said you’re gay for me too and I never thought I’d get this far and I don’t know what to do I’m new to all this so I’m just trying to get you to like me and marry me but I don’t have a wedding ring so maybe I’ll get one for later and surprise you but I’m realizing we don’t really know each other so maybe we should take things slow and maybe just go on a date and kiss or something?” Yeah, that went worse than expected. “...I’ll pay?”

As Zipper continued to fumble, Kaida was vaguely reminded of an avalanche. Zipper seemed to be snowballing down one.[break][break]

It’s not something she’s had happen to her before, and she’s not naive to think it will ever happen again. She’s not that lucky. Or maybe she is, and she’s found one of those rare fangirls that are obsessed with serial killers and villains- it’s a very real possibility. But the more she thought about that, the more she tuned out. Zipper was talking too fast for her tired mind to keep up with.[break][break]

In the end, she just sighed, her ears drooping as she dragged a hand down her face. She doesn’t care.[break][break]

Zipper’s in disbelief.

She’s still, unmoving. The idea that her advances would be reciprocated, even if unenthusiastically, meant she had a chance. Her foot was in the door. And it was up to her to take Kaida’s indifference and make a home of her.

“This weekend.” There’s confidence now. Unearned by all means, but she won’t let this slip through her hands. Not without giving it her all. “Dreamworld.” Because you’re the girl of my dreams. Thank god, I didn’t say that aloud. “Because you’re the girl of my dreams.”

Christ. Control yourself.

Zipper’s face is red. She’s so goddamn cringe, but she keeps pressing forward. She hands Kaida her phone and looks away. Eye contact is too difficult for this part. There’s always a chance she changes her mind.

“Put your number in so… I can call you… and pick you up…”

The beast's voice comes as a surprise to Kaida, and she looked up with barely concealed dread upon hearing it, before quickly shifting back to a neutral expression. It hadn't talked in a while. She wasn't sure if it was just taunting her, or being serious. Either went.[break][break]

Kaida took a moment to look over Zipper's face, concerned if she was somehow morphing into a tomato. Maybe the junior's quirk did that to herself, she didn't know. To her, it just seemed like Zipper wanted someone to hang out with— she didn't know what Dream World was. If it had good drinks, she would happily sign up. Kaida took Zipper's phone and put in her number, and stood up, walking to the door. "Rest up. Can't have you fainting out on the streets again."[break][break]

Then she's gone.
