o this was what everyone was buzzing about around campus? Farrin wasn't unimpressed, but he didn't quite get it either. Sanguine pearls looked over the standing festival grounds map just beyond the entrance. Josephine was just a few feet behind him. He hadn't quite dragged her along this time. It was more a venture of mutual interest. Just what was everyone raving about?

"I mean, I guess it looks fun," he started, backing up a step and looking down the road to the main stage, then shifting his gaze to the rightward path, which led to the rides. "Dun' know if it's really fer' me, though." 

Between you and me, Farrin never really cared for rides. He loved the wind rustling his hair, but only while under his own power. Leaving it to rickety machines? Not a million years. There was an area with games, apparently. An arcade? That was more up his alley.

"But no choice now, I guess. We're 'ere already; might as well check it out." 

His gaze wandered back to the map. The main stage listed a few events as well. Eating competition? What did he care how much others could eat? Magic show? Either it was trickery or due to a quirk. No such thing as real magic. Making a flower crown? No. Free Breakfast? Okay, that caught his attention. There was no sadness in the world that couldn't be cured with breakfast food. Maybe later, though. Live music? Well, depending on what they had playing, it might be fun. So, at least there were some decent options. 

"Yuh've any preferences? Anythin yuh' want ta' check out?" He asked Jo, turning to face her.

"Dunno if it's for you, how does anyone look at a fried food and a whole buncha rides and go it's not my scene? Did you want um to put a weight station somewhere in it all? Come on it's a place for ya too, ya know, trust a machine for a bit. Go forward and have fun with ya significant other, or the snarky preppy one that woke up early at 3 pm to be here with ya. No, really this is fun though, honestly."

It was hard to honestly say having fun after something like that but come on, who doesn't love rides? It's like the one time ya can feel the wind in ya hair and it doesn't have to come from you, ya just let the machine try its hardest to please ya.

Maybe he was into video games? Nah!

Not a huge guy like Windy. The fella probably didn't feel comfortable if he didn't feel his own sweat at least at some point in the day. Still, though the goal of today was to have fun instead of being a depressed little single alone in her room. Jo decided to stay screw it, and put on her Sunday best. (This wasn't her Sunday best, it was a walk around Tuesday at most.)

Head out and enjoy the day! ...and if the painter shows up hey maybe Windy can play wingman. I mean let's be real ninety percent of the other students here thought this guy was just hanging out with her because she looked lonely.

Coulda been worse, she coulda been homely and lonely.

"Let's try a ride, maybe it will be a pleasant surprise!"

arrin's stomach immediately sank. Shot one was how confident Jo was in trusting the rides. He could never. The mention of significant others was the double tap. He hadn't heard from Sada for a bit now. But what was he to do? A promise was a promise, and rather than go check on her every other minute, he promised to focus on his studies at UAU. Maybe she'd even appreciate his taking time away from it for a bit, though. No way to tell. At least there was a carnival or whatever they wished to call it to distract him. 

"Fried food, sure," even if his mama would've whooped his butt for overindulging had she been alive, "rides? Ehhh, I prefer havin me feet planted firmly on the ground." 

Weights, though, that would have been an idea. Strongman competition or some sort. That would have been right up his alley. And, though few, including Jo might have guessed, yes, Farrin did enjoy gaming. His dorm room was fairly spartan. Bed, furniture to hold his clothes, weights... and a lone video game console hooked up to his tv. He didn't partake often; most of his free time was allocated to training, but he tried to when the opportunity presented itself. 

"Fine, fine, fine," he said, starting down the path toward the rides. 

Hopefully, there were at least a few games like the High Strike or Boxer Machine. Something he could enjoy without trusting his fate to a rickety old track or some such. When they arrived at the expanse of rides, Farrin's eyes ran from the rollercoaster to the drop tower. There his stomach went again. Ugh. Good thing they didn't eat first. 

"So? Which one first?"

"Atta boy, well atta man. Say how about we do the biggest thing here so you can gloat about it after all that is what big rides and rollercoasters are all about! Not enjoyment but pure bragging right over those who still have their compass senses. So what better way to face your fear than to go up the drop tower, I've seen ya do a rope climb before you were alright. This time ya don't gotta climb it does it for ya, come on the lines not too big right now."

Now since Jo was leading the whole double life thing for a while, she had been on actual destroyed rides and rides that were rigged to kill ya thanks to some mad hatter fella back in the States. So with that said she kinda had a sick joy when it came to these things like rides, if worse came to worse she had experience with the near-death side of it too.

Let's be real though chances of that happening were incredibly small, plus she needed Windy and this day to help her get over the whole haven't received a text from you know who in a while.

Today was about being a Happy woman, not a pining girl.

h what rubbish was this? The last thing Farrin wanted was to start at the deep end, but if that's where Jo wanted to start, that's where they were going to start. It didn't matter how often he had rope climbed... or tussled with villainy, though. The very reason Jo found it entertaining was the same reason Farrin hated it. He wasn't under his own power. Trusting others, even machines, to manage his movement for him - or really manage him at all - was a big no no. 

"Ehh, alright, alright. But if this feckin' tower turns out ta' be some rickety, banjaxed bullshite that tries ta' kill us, I'm blamin' you," he said, starting toward the drop tower. 

The wait wasn't long at all. Again, Farrin was thankful he hadn't had anything to eat yet. The after-effect would certainly not be a pretty picture. But, before long, the duo would hit the front of the line, the gate would open, and they would be left to take their seats on the death tower. 

"Feckin bullshite," he muttered to himself, his stomach absolutely sinking into a pit. 

Given Farrin's luck recently, the locks on his brace were liable to break and send the boy flying through the air, or drop him hard to the ground. Either way, he would be absolutely fucked. Well, not with his quirk. He could slow himself down mid-air, of course, but it still wouldn't be fun flying around like that. 

"Yuh' know what. If I die 'ere, I'm hauntin' yuh' fer the rest o' yer days," he said to Jo as one of the ride operators checked the braces of each seat.

"Jokes on you, if anything you'll live and I'll die and you'll be haunted by guilt until you die."

God, Jo was amazing when it came to jokes, now that was true comedy right there. Likely making Windy forget all his troubles and focus solely on the fun of the moment. Honestly the student-vigi had to admit there was some part of her that enjoyed this moment playing out right now. Nine out of ten people would've just said no and had none of their business being on these rides, but Windy was that ten outta ten where he knew the true definition of courage.

That even though your scared ya do it anyways or maybe he just thought he would be teased about it the whole day if he said no.

Ya know one or the other, either way, he was still here and they were still going up!

At first, when they initially started going up she decided not to be a dick at least not yet, wait until they were a little further up. I mean it may be her own accord that she was keeping that secret of her life. However, Windy twice has almost ended up making her spill the beans so she was unfortunately enjoying this a bit.

"Ya know, ya gotta love the breeze once ya get up a little bit and hear all the different music coming together to be a cacophony in the air. Truly beautiful."

he audacity! It was a humorous thought. If the ride were in disrepair, an accident would have likely already occurred. If anything did go wrong, well, Farrin could probably save most of the people via temporal tomfoolery. Really, Farrin just didn't like the gut-wrenching weight that bounced about in his gut when he was acted on by outside forces and speed.

Still, his resistance was all for the bit. "Haunted by guilt? Need I remind yuh' this was all yer' idea," he said just before they began to rise. Well, here it went. They would inch up to the top of the drop tower, and then Farrin was quite liable to lose whatever contents occupied his stomach, which, again, wasn't much considering he hadn't eaten, but it still wouldn't be a pleasant experience. 

Farrin shut his eyes, listening for the congealed melody that spindled together from below. There was a thrum, a weaving of laughter, cheer, and, yes, the music too. That much was true. Maybe it wasn't all bad up here. But they wouldn't be staying up this high for long. 

As if tethered to the thought, the machine dropped them. "Sonova feckin' gobshitin' arsehole," he shouted. Farrin's hair fought to catch up with his head as the wind whipped it upwards. "How on earth do yuh' enjoy this?" He shouted as the ride snapped back upward into the air before dropping them again. 

A minute or so of bouncing up and down, and finally, the drops would slow, their seats slowly descending toward the earth. Farrin bit his mouth shut, battling back the urge to vomit. It was a close call, but he was winning. For now.

Jo could only laugh at her words, unforunately that wasn't comedy gold. That was comedy truth or a dark truth as some of the kids nowadays would call it. To be honest, there had to be someplace in Windy that was enjoying these moments. Possibly next to the side of him that constantly tried to kill robots and wrote poetry for his girl in another country.

When their descent started a smile spread across her face and the sound of her and a couple of others delighted sounds covered up the sound of someone screaming bad words. She was going to chastise him since they were surrounded by children but lets be real odds are no one heard him whatsoever except for her and Jo was gonna store that in the data bank.

It was at that moment the ride started to rise once more, and she couldn't help but laugh while they started to climb once again.

"Let's go! We are getting one more, put your hands up everybody feel the wind on your fingers!"

arrin felt like a shaken soda can. He was ready to pop at any moment. Still, he was acclimating. Up and down, up and down, up and down, the constant upward jerks and sudden drops were losing their grip on his gut. When he heard Josephine's words, he possessed faculties enough to comply. So he threw his hands out. 

He may have even enjoyed it a little, the slightest smirk crossing his face. It only lasted for a nanosecond or so. Ninety-nine percent of the lad still disliked submitting his movement to another force, but that last one percent existed. 

Finally, the ride came to an end, slowly letting the passengers down. The braces unlocked, and the staff lifted the locks up over each group of riders. Farrin nearly fell out of his seat, but he caught himself. He patted himself down immediately. Yup, everything was where it was supposed to be. 

"Think we're gonna have ta' put off food fer a bit," he said, turning to Josephine. 

He was a little green in the face, and that wasn't due to his Irish heritage. Nope, Farrin was liable to vomit if he was jostled about anymore. Stillness slowly settled him, though, and the feeling receded. Good. That would have been embarrassing. 

"Alright, uh, what next?" He asked, crossing every finger in his mind's eye that whatever cruel fate awaited him was less shaky than the damn tower. Josephine had said it was best to start with the worst ride in that regard, so even a rollercoaster would be a step down in vomit-inducing movement, right? Either way, it was clear more rides lay ahead. Then, hopefully, some more simple games and when his stomach was up for it... food.
