Just when it felt like all hope was lost, just when she felt too tired to continue this shitty practice fight Mai finally called it. Great. They failed, so mission accomplished. She didn't want to do a good job either, she just wanted to drag the Yanai name through the mud and make her sister look bad. Nat was just a means to an end to that, she didn't want to make Nat appear strong, or give her hope, or prove Mai wrong. She needed to stay focused on her goal, and her goal was to ruin her family.

Yoko was staring down Mai with her usual grumpy face as her quirk deactivating gradually turned her back into her human form. ''Well done?'' She said after a moment's pause, caught off guard by the sudden... Praise? ''That's assuming I want to win.'' She huffed, looking off to the side as if looking directly at Mai would give her the satisfaction of being right, or something like that. It was petty, but it was who she was. Still, Mai's constructive criticism planted an idea in Yoko's head, no matter how much she tried to deny it, no matter how much she didn't realize it now. In this moment, she would be able to trace it all back to that one time she fought alongside Nat against insurmountable odds. Mai's words planted an idea, a seed.

The idea that Yoko might actually be able to win if she tried.

''Don't let her get to you.'' She threatened Nat as she pointed at her, ''she may be a teacher, but you can't let her boss you around, got it?'' She had entirely misinterpreted what Mai had told her roommate, and wanted to reinforce the idea that Nat didn't have to improve for anyone but herself... She just went about saying it in a clumsy way.

Losing all her momentum really wasn't something Nat had anticipated at all, but the end result of the instructor evading their attack wasn't too surprising. She'd hoped for better, but she knew she wasn't that far along yet. She only hoped that it didn't reflect poorly on Yoko, and that the teacher wasn't about to go off about Quirk-this or Quirk-that. Nat had heard that kind of stuff a lot before and while it wouldn't dissuade her any she really wasn't in the mood to hear it again.

But instead they got praise and advice, the dreadlocked blonde blinking and giving a glance at Yoko as if to confirm that Mai had in fact said they did good.

The advice made sense too, and she was in the middle of responding with "I wi-" when Yoko suddenly jabbed a finger out and insisted on not letting the teacher put expectations on her. Well, that wasn't actually what she said but... Nat got the impression that was what she meant. So, she changed her response to Mai to: "I planned to." and then it was time to get out of the way for the other students. Rubbing at her legs a little where the scarfs had been wrapped around her, Nat spoke up just loud enough for Yoko to hear. "Thank you, Yoko. We'll do better next time." She was promising it just as much to herself as she was to Yoko, but she was determined to not be a liability for her roommate in the future. She'd need some kind of way to deal with her legs getting bound up, maybe some kind of weapon? Something like that could probably help her help Yoko more too, if she ever ended up tied up again too.

It's good to see Yoko give her all in the end and for Nat to do the same no matter what! Also yes Mai is miniscule.
