[Shirayuki Mai]

Her efforts were like mopping while the tap was still running. No matter how many people she saved there was always another. Yet if her efforts didn't persist the overflow might turn into a tide that swept the innocent away. Even so it was frustrating to have to do the same thing over and over again. Worse yet were those times when the intensity peaked. Her heart ached every time she received multiple alerts and had to make a choice. The consequences didn't bear thinking off. Deep down she knew that solving this entire situation wasn't within her area of expertise however and that consistent relief efforts were needed until the problem could be addressed. One such potential solution had just presented itself and Mai had not hesitated to volunteer to test it. She was more than willing to put her life on the line for this.

"Recall. Ready when you are."

Mai called back while making her way further onto the beach. She took a deep breath and prepared herself for combat. Depending on how this went they were in for a ride.

The response from the heroes of Tokyo was rather quick. A lot of them happened to be in the right place at the right time, but once the news reached the network they were arriving in droves. Iphi, who had taken out a few with Kazashi, was lucky enough to have Ouros stationed outside of Tokyo especially in this case. It meant her response time was crucial in saving dozens of lives from the tide of, what Iphi presumed, mutant sea creatures. Likely the byproduct of some experiment by a scientist, she'd seen the type before. Hell if it wasn't for the much larger scale she'd likely attribute this to a copycat of The Elementalist.

Once the shelter was set up and Kazashi opted to stay back which was likely due to her own concern over her family Iphi was contacted by Mai. Perfect for a job like this involving sea creatures as her quirk combined with her martial arts made her one of the most effective deterrents. "Thank you for the assist." Iphi would hold up the device "I'll bring them in and you'll need to take out as many as you can. I'll support you from here." She'd ready her pneumatic cannon "If the numbers are too much I'll put the melody in reverse." she'd flip the switch playing the song that attracted the monsters to begin with, the surface breaking as bubbles slowly came up to the service.

"Understood, Recall." Yuki Onna replied with a curt nod, already considering how to best follow the order. Making sure she stayed some distance away from Iphigenia to intercept whatever came their way but close enough that they could reinforce each other should the need arise she took a deep breath. It did not take long for the first critters to arrive. Given their likely proximity before they'd activated the music Mai could only hope that by redirecting them here they'd ensured the safety of innocent people nearby.

"I'll take the three on the left," Mai called out right before rushing into the fray. Only five had come for now but unless they dealt with them in a timely manner it was possible they'd be overwhelmed by reinforcements. A titan triggerfish with the mouth of a lamprey leapt for her first. Side stepping it she delivered a palm strike to the side of its head to rattle it before bringing her arm up and then her elbow down to finish it off. Catching the claw of a humphead parrotfish with the limbs of a lobster she twisted, swinging it into its compatriot with enough force to wrench the offending appendage off before leaping up and bringing her foot down on both of them with her full weight behind it. The thought popped into her head that the desserts she'd been partaking in as of late may have added to the strike. With a slight flush coloring her face she ignored that idea, channeling a bit of her quirk through her cheeks to cool them down once more before turning back to Iphi to see if the situation had changed.

In Iphi's eyes the reward greatly exceeded the risk. If they could draw the creatures to them and thin their numbers it meant potentially dozens of lives saved. With the safehouse being set up and secured by Kazashi, who was arguably one of the stronger Pro Heroes even including herself and Mai, she could focus on the task at hand. Firing off a few blast from her gauntlet she took care of one creature, recalibrated and fired at the larger one which took a few shots to put down.

"Yuki Onna. I'm going to increase the range, stay on your guard." She would fiddle with the transponder and increase the volume which caused a much more rapid amount of bubbles to come up to the surface revealing 12 more small shrimp like creatures that charged at her. Unbeknowest to both of them there was a much MUCH worse creature bubbling beneath the surface, growing more and more irritated as the minutes passed.

"Roger that," Mai replied with a nod. It was truly wonderful how smoothly things could go when cooperating with a fellow pro hero, especially one as skilled as Recall. She'd have to make sure she didn't disappoint either. With a dozen more foes attempting to get past her Mai more than had the opportunity to prove herself.

Channeling her quirk in bursts along with each strike Mai's arms moved like a flurry of snow. Each hit sent cold into the shrimp-like creatures shells to slow their advance. The first time they struck Mai swatted them all back in turn with palm strikes, punches and sweeping chops. Their second attempt met spearhands precisely striking the spots her quirk had hit before. The cold had caused the shells and the flesh just beneath to harden instead of remaining flexible letting her fingers pierce right through. All twelve of them were dealt with in short order, the sole casualty on their side being the time it'd take Yuki Onna to get the goop off her fingers. It squelched when she parted her fingers. Suppressing a shudder Mai tried to distract herself by focusing on the surroundings instead.

"Recall, do you see that too?" Mai asked while nodding her head towards the surface of the water. She was hoping it was just her imagination.

Iphi couldn't figure out if she was more fascinated or disgusted by creatures. She was sure that if someone like Hebiru was here, she would want to capture one of the creatures to get more data, which wasn't the worst idea, honestly. If it wasn't for the fact that she had nothing to contain a creature like this, she might have tried.

Instead, she continued to shoot from a distance, sliding the volume on her device all the way up to attract as many as possible. She would spot the surface breaking moments before Mai would, thank you High Spec, and when she addressed this fact Iphi nodded and turned off the device. The plan looked like it would be a success after all, they had reeled in a 'big fish'.

"I do. I'm going to put this in reverse. I should scatter the little ones, but we must work together to take this down." Iphi began to approach and flip her device in reverse, which immediately repelled the smaller creatures but enraged the sea bear who started a charge at Iphi. Uh oh.

"Understood," Yuki Onna responded curtly with a nod. She wondered if other heroes prepared a more varied repertoire of answers in advance but quickly put the thought aside. Efficiency was crucial in situations such as this, so what if she had responded to the last three questions in what was basically the exact same way? Besides, with her standing a good distance in front of her colleague and facing the incoming threat there was no way Recall could see her face flush in embarrassment. She was doing perfectly fine. It was the results that mattered. Speaking of which...

Just in case Mai had prepared herself to face more of the smaller foes coming their way but it appeared to have been a needless precaution. They scattered the moment the music changed, fleeing as if they were in immense pain. It was not a sight Mai rejoiced in but it certainly served as a potent deterrent. Seemingly however it wasn't potent enough for their fiercest foe. It was large. Far larger than it had any right to be. The beast stomped out of the water like a blend between a car, a fish and a bear, the fin atop its back reaching twice as high as Mai was tall. Taking it down would be a challenge but Mai did not take the path of heroism because it would be easy.  

Meeting it at the water's edge before it could get closer to her colleague Yuki Onna met its ferocious warcry with silent determination. One of its fin-paws came up to swat her away and she narrowly dodged away from it while landing several swift quirk-infused blows in return. The beast was far too massive to take down with a single good hit but if she could disable it their victory was practically secured. Dodge by dodge and blow by blow she harried the sea bear, the biting cold penetrating deep inside and slowing it more and more with every hit. She was on a course to win and they both knew it, Mai could see it in her opponent's eyes.

With a thunderous roar it reared back before pawing at the ground. Mai's eyes widened. Immediately she flicked both ends of her scarf to wrap around its front fin-paws and not a second too late as it charged right at her aiming to bowl her out of the way. Instead of dodging she went low at the last moment, sliding beneath it while keeping a tight hold of her scarf. Spinning around to face it once she was past she secured her footing and leaned back just as the scarf tightened and began to pull on her. Without holding anything in reserve she blasted her quirk out through her feet with everything she had. This was more than a fight. It was a struggle to prove that their plan could work. The soundwaves could not stop all threats but without their attention being pulled in a thousand directions hero society could finally organize and deal with the biggest ones. This was the proof of concept. If they faltered here all their efforts would be for nought.

Mai's grip tightened as she drove her feet down, holding onto her scarf like it was a set of reins. The middle dug into her back as she strained, frozen ice shattering around her feet while she was dragged forward by the sea bear's frenzied charge. Mai did not let up. It would be an insult to everything she stood for. Even as the scarf dug into her back so hard it drew blood. Even as her hands threatened to give out under the strain. Yuki Onna persevered. Her feet left a trail in the sand meters long, freezing and shattering it over and over until the beast finally ground to a halt.

"Recall! Now!" Mai shouted as she went low. With the beast halted in place Iphigenia had a clear shot. All that was left was to pull the trigger.

Fascinatating. As the world slowed around her, Iphi pushed High Spec's processing speed to the limit. There was over 5 dozen responses she could think of in that short time. Having Mai around and firmly believing in her capabilities opened up even more potential responses. Iphi's immediate instinct was to disable to creature and restrain it for study, but just like her thoughts about the smaller creatures earlier the danger of the creature made its elimination a priority. There was a single course of action that was best: overcharge a shot to take advantage of Mai's own quirk.

"Need to recalibrate, do your best to hold your own but prioritize your safety." She bent down and removed her support gear. "Nothing is gained if either of us is taken out of commission, but if you can buy me 28 seconds, I'll take care of the threat." Removing the safety pin and then bending the supports prevented the chamber from overfilling with pressurized air. In this special exception, with a safe zone already being prepped and multiple heroes en route, she could afford to break it even if it would be repaired later. Holding the gauntlet with both hands, she would inflate the chamber as she aimed at the creature pushing it past the limits, the surface cracking as she planted her feet and fired. "Firing! Duck!"

With a concussive bang the projectile travelled through the air and found its mark detonating on impact and turning the sea bear into 'sea paste'. The Pneumatic Cannon Iphi was so proud of was entirely out of commission, the chamber having been cracked and no longer able to retain any air. Iphi would immediately move, looking over Mai to see if she had received any injuries and offering a hand "Are you hurt?"

With the resisting force suddenly vanishing into something that wasn't thin nor air Mai promptly landed on her back, only narrowly closing her eyes in time. Every cell of her being strained to ignore the sounds and sensations that followed. 

"I'm alri- unhurt," Mai replied lethargically, wiping her face as well as she could with a clean part of her scarves before opening her eyes once more. She began to raise a hand to accept Recall's offer of assistance before lowering it once more as she fully took in her own state. There was hardly a speck of white left on her costume. "J-just a moment please."

With the parts of her scarves that had been under her when she'd landed Mai cleaned her face, hair and hands as best as she could before transforming out of her costume and back into her beach outfit, a colorful yukata paired with a straw hat. She'd need to double back and pick up one of her spare costumes before transforming again lest she end up with a nasty surprise. Mai wasn't the wasteful type but she highly doubted it could be salvaged. Still, so long as their only loss was an outfit she'd chalk it up as a win.

"My apologies for the delay and my thanks for the save. That was quite the attack," Mai acknowledged while casting a look towards the large stain on the beach with a Yuki Onna-shaped clean spot in the middle. "I'm glad the test was successful. Truth be told I was starting to be worried this could escalate to be another disaster on the scale of Babel but with the majority of the creatures fended off we should not have all too many problems responding to the remaining beasts."

Perhaps it was overly optimistic of Mai to make that conclusion after a single fight but so long as they kept hope in their hearts nothing could keep them down. Perhaps it would even keep the wound on her back that she hadn't realized was an open one from staining her yukata. 

"Do you believe these countermeasures could be used to secure the entire coast?"

The viscera and blood spilled from the creature weren't nearly as concerning as Mai's condition. When she was thankfully okay, Iphi sighed a breath of relief. She wasn't exactly worried for her calculations given the mass of the creature and watching its movements as it fought Mai it truly was a fish in origin and not a mammal despite being a "Sea Bear". If it had been an actual mammal, the Pneumatic Cannon would have just punched a hole in it, not caused an explosion.

Iphi held her weapon between her fingers and quickly inspected the damage, noting that it would take about seven hours to fix it. "Yes, unfortunately, not something I can replicate." She pointed to the broken piece of equipment. "I apologize for getting your outfit dirty. I thought of about 50 potential responses to that creature, and this was the one that would result in the least harm to either of us." She would place the speaker down in the sand as she worked to wrap up her gear and put it away "The most concerning part of this has to be the way these creatures came about. Japan is surrounded by water on all sides, so for this attack to originate in one spot, it means that deploying these creatures is easier at THIS specific point." Her eyes would flit toward the horizon "We can secure the coast for sure, but we might need to take the fight out there. There are islands out there and I'll relay this information to the hero network. It looks like we'll be going on an island adventure."
