"Take a seat, Ruri." Saori said with a gentle smile and a wave towards the chair on the other side of her desk. With Labor Thanksgiving Day having arrived it was time for their yearly performance review once more. "Nervous?" She jested with a wink. They'd known each other long enough that it was hardly necessary but emotions were rarely rational.

"How have you been recently?" Saori asked before getting into the meat of the matter. Spinning a pen between her fingers she attentively listened to Ruri's reply and nodded along where appropriate. The woman never ceased to be a font of interesting events so Saori was most curious what she'd been up to. But she digressed. Opening the folder in front of her she flipped through a few pages until she got to what she was looking for.

"Well then, let's get started," She continued in a mock serious tone while tapping one entry on the page. "The safety analysis and risk management evaluation of the Yoshimitsu Corporation's new fisheries."

"Yu-chan, is this all really necessary?" Not only was Kawahara a complete failure at life but she was especially bad at the business side of Yugure's life. Plus, she didn't like this kind of stuff. It was easier just to be Sparkle. "You're always messing with me! This better not be a prank!!" she puffed out her cheeks, pouting in defiance of her older sister. She was always great at coming up with plans and was a perfect role model - the complete opposite of Kawahara in every way [break][break]

"Lets see.." She would hold up five fingers and began to put them down one by one as she shared the past few weeks with "I got hit by a bus chasing a criminal. I hit the jackpot in pachinko, but I lost it somewhere on the street. Uhm I met a UAU student after I fell in a dumpster. Last week, when I took a few sick days, it was because I ate some bad pickles...oh, and I hung out with Yo-chan!" [break][break]

She had hoped the casual conversation would continue but Yugure highlighted one of the projects she was assigned to. "Oh uh..." she turned a bright red. "I lost a few pages for that. I took them with me when I went to the pachinko parlor..."

"I'm afraid so," Saori answered with a genial smile and an understanding nod. Adding a mischievous wink she refrained from elaborating whether she was answering whether it was necessary or a prank. 

As always Ruri's tales were so outlandish they'd be hard to believe if she hadn't seen many such things happen before with her own eyes. It was almost like she was a magnet for disaster.

"Yo-chan? Who is- No, before that. A bus? Are you alright?" She asked with furrowed brows, refraining from commenting on the other matters. 

"I see. Do you roughly remember how it went? Anything that stood out as particularly worrisome?" Saori prodded while picking up a pen, already making plans to track down the papers and retrieve them. It wouldn't do for them to fall into the wrong hands and cause the firm to be implicated in corporate espionage after all. 

"There was that petting zoo in Suginama too, correct? Do you believe they'll be able to open on schedule?" 

Saori had already checked and double checked everything of course but she was quite interested in hearing her sister's opinion. She herself hadn't visited the location after all and reports could be misleading. It wouldn't be the first time one of their clients had left out data to make themselves look better.

Kawahara had only been grazed by the bus. When it came to brushes with death, she was extremely lucky even without the intervention of her older sister. It was just everywhere else that was the problem. Love, finances, food, basically anything that would make a normal person have a stable life. "Yo-chan is Yoko, remember? "Uh lets see petting zoo..." she would scramble to take out her phone which seemed to have a new crack on the screen every day. She would eventually find an email from the zoo owner confirming that they would be on schedule. "Yup! "Of course, how could I forget?" Saori said while shaking her head in mock shame. She’d heard a fair bit about Yoko from her source at UAU as well. Pretty, nice and with a powerful blue quirk. Saori was still working out the nuances of that last part but from what she knew the young woman seemed trustworthy enough. She’d still be making further inquiries of course but it’d far from be a priority. There were a great many others in the area she had far less intel on.

Squinting to read the email Saori only narrowly managed to parse its contents through the cracks and the shaking. "Wonderful. I knew you'd be able to handle it," Saori responded with a warm smile. Opening a drawer in her desk the sound of crinkling plastic could be heard before she pulled out a bag of cookies. "That reminded me, I received a pack of animal crackers from a client recently," Saori lied as easily as she breathed. She'd bought the pack herself exactly for this occasion. "Care for some?"

A soft ping in the background announced that the kettle she'd put on finished boiling at just the right time as well. Bringing it, two cups and an assortment of flavors over Saori briefly eyed the various kinds before picking out a bag of Osmanthus tea for herself and offering the ornate wooden box to Ruri. Only once they'd settled in and had a moment to enjoy the tea did she continue.

"Has the BroadJaw hero agency made any additional inquiries regarding the construction of their large-scale jungle gym since we last met?"

Yu-chan was so mean! Kawahara pouted more, with her face turning a bright red. "I've told you about her so much!!" And she wasn't lying; she practically talked about her on every occasion. Even though they saw less of each other since Yoko had been making a lot of friends, she was still her number 1! [break][break]

Kawahara was getting madder the more Yugure did her usual thing; they were sisters, and she always teased her! The familiar crinkle of a package was all too familiar to Kawahara as she peered over the desk. She loved animal crackers and all food but especially sweets like this. As long as they weren't marshmallows, she was happy! She was practically drooling as Yugure offered some and with a big smile she would circle the desk and wrap her arms around her sister, pressing her face into hers "Really I can have some??? You're the best, Yu-nee!" whenever she felt especially grateful or felt a lot of love for her sister she would always switch from Yu-chan to Yu-nee and had done so ever since they were kids. Settling on kabusecha she would enjoy her tea and crackers. She missed when they were kids and they would have sleepovers and watch movies, not it was just work work work for Yugure. "Oh right they said uh," she'd pull out her phone and squint to read the email "They're happy with the proposal and are ready to sign the agreement this week." She'd stand up and place her hands on the table, looking her sister in the eyes "That being said, we need to have a sleepover again! It's been a long time! Please, please, please, please, please." It had only been about a month, but especially with Yoko being busier and busier with school, she felt more and more lonely as time went by.

"Perhaps I just wanted to hear you speak some more," Saori joked while resting her chin on the back of her hand. No matter what life threw at her Ruri always remained so animated. It was a simplicity that would bore Saori in anyone else yet always remained so interesting when it came to Ruri. Perhaps it was the unique blend of untarnished innocence and optimism mixed into a package that had seen some of the lowest parts of the world that she so admired. Yes, it was a personality that was complex in its simplicity. Easy to manage yet with so much depth one could discover another facet every day. It truly kept things lively. 

Accepting the hug with a warm smile Saori patted Ruri's back as she did. 

"Of course you can, Ru-chan." 

While she preferred to save it for special moments Saori too had adopted Ruri's naming scheme, albeit she'd chosen to use her first name instead of her last. It had been a purposeful choice, both to ease her through the loss of her parents and to facilitate an easier transition into the Yugure family. Besides, she could hardly call her Ka-chan, now could she? That would be quite the silly nickname. 

"Wonderful, I knew you could handle it." Reaching out as Kawahara leaned over the table Saori patted her head with a gentle smile. "Of course? Do you have time this weekend? I'll bring the hot pot, what would you like to eat?"

Usually, she had to ration her food, but her sister was much, much, much better at spending her money on the right things. A stupid cocky smirk appeared on Kawahara's face as she graciously accepted the head pat. She didn't understand why people found it so hard to do things like this? This job was easy, and she was great at it! (False.) "Of course, I have time this weekend! Yosenabe hot pot, please!" Kawahara wasn't exactly picky, and 'Everything' hot pot meant she can afford more to gamble before her next paycheck. [break][break]

"Of course," Saori responded with crinkling eyes. "I've simply been talking to too many old businessmen recently. They keep going on and on about all manner of boring things. Conversations like ours are like a balm upon the soul." 

She was only half jesting when she said that. Truly, for all that the majority of her business associates had made their way up the ranks they still held on to so many of the same biases they had before she'd assisted their rise. Even so she was in no rush to correct most of them. Those flaws made for easy avenues to exploit and help 'guide' them in the direction she liked. Not to mention it gave her a rather steady stream of customers, for so many had risen beyond what they could handle and kept suffering from self-made problems over and over again.
