he pedals beneath Farrin’s feet were firm, strong. Good. They would need to be. He traced the bike’s parts and gave them a good rattle, but like the pedals, it was firm. There weren’t any rules against using one’s quirk on their own vehicle in this challenge.

So far, Farrin had seen mixed results in his Sports Festival challenges. The balloon bonanza was a bust. That shitehawk, Rahul, had it out for Farrin for some reason, and so the time-turner only managed a middling score. The geyser dive, while difficult, saw Farrin come in second next to Jun. Not bad, but not a win either. Then, in the capture the flag challenge, Farrin and Ylva blew the competition out—an absolute win.

He needed another absolute win. Ten people watching, ten million people watching, it made no difference to him as long as those eyes included some of the nation's top pro heroes like Sterling Soul. An internship with her or another hero of her caliber would undoubtedly see him improve further, and Farrin needed to improve.

Josephine was a part of this challenge, though. He didn't want to blow out a friend, but he needed the big W here. Still, maybe she would come in second place. Make a good showing for herself as well. Who knew with the gadgets these bikes were equipped with? Each had two “gimmicks,” so anything was possible. Farrin looked three bikes to the right, to Jo, and gave her a thumbs up before turning ahead. Any second, the bell would ring, and the race would start.

Oh, joy here we go, a bike race.

For some reason everyone was fired up beyond belief, however, she couldn't find the moxy inside her right now. It was clear that Windy wanted to win and why wouldn't he wanna? It'd be another feather in the cap and help him progress in future possibilities.

The future huh?

She never really thought about it, even if she had become a hero it was only a matter of time before something linked her back to Peacekeeper or JoJo back in the U.S. considering her immense amount of activities stateside.

Eventually, the woman was going to have to take a good look at the road ahead, however, right now the only focus was just this race. Maybe if she got lucky she wouldn't place in the bottom half.

Looking up she noticed Windy had given her a thumbs up so she gave one back, with a false smile but hey it was better than no smile right? For now, the best bet for her was to breathe in and out and focus, the road would be long and winding ahead.

he electric charge flowing through Farrin's veins hit rubber. Well, that was certainly forced. A quizzical brow lifted, and Farrin leaned onto one of the bike's pedals, ready to wheel on over to Josie and see if she was alright. Decisions drew the tears in time that saw threads split and reality change forever, but this was no choice at all. There would be other challenges, but not many more friends. 

The rules dictated every remain at their starting position, but Farrin wheeled over to Josie. "Oi, hows 'bout we all scooch over one," he said to the young lad in position next to her. Confusion gripped the lad and the two other students who were originally between Farrin and Jo, but they relented, scooting over so Farrin could back up into the starting spot next to his buddy. 

"Yuh alright?" he then asked, turning to Josie. "Nervous er' somethin'?" 

The Sports Festival was a spectacle worldwide. Who knew how many millions might be watching? Maybe Jo was just getting the jitters. A lot of students did. "I wouldn't lose me' lunch over it. I dun' a few o' these challenges already n' they're no' too bad. No' sure if yuh' looked over all the rules, but each o' our bikes has two gizmos built in, too. Maybe somethin' useful ta' help level the playin' field. C'mon, we got this." 

A few thumbs up and nods of acknowledgment were exchanged between the judges and coordinators. Maybe his moving over a few spots delayed things a little, but the decision-makers appeared okay with it. The bell rang, and the race began. A few students beamed off, but Farrin started at a light pedal, ensuring he didn't pull too far from Josie. He could big finish later, for now he'd make sure she got a respectable placing.

"Me nervous? I dunno the meaning of the word, haha actually that's a lie me and nervous are at this point roommates."

She made a satirical gulp to add to it though a second of an actual nervous gulp came through in that moment. Shaking her head left and right, she nodded to his words and focused on the moment.

"Well, good luck to ya too! You're right this isn't one of the first challenges that I've gone through!"

Josie spoke aloud and returned the thumbs up! Settling in the race had finally started and like she promised herself in no way shape or form did she try to go as hard as she could, however, she was enjoying the race by having a friend near herself.

ell, it was a start. She was pedaling, and Farrin hadn't taken off quite yet. The dust settled from behind those that blasted ahead. He would overtake them eventually. Nobody outran...rode...whatever Chronokinesis. Farrin hadn't met a student, or even a teacher yet that could outpace him when moving full speed.

There were more than a few, though, at least a dozen, all around Farrin and Josie. No enhanced speed and no gizmos activated. An explosion boomed just beside him. Words spoken too soon. One student flipped the switch and blasted ahead. Okay, it was time to make some moves. 

"Alrighty, Jo, I'm gonna see what dis' thing can do!" He shouted for Josie to hear. 

Farrin thumbed a digit sized cover open on the right handle of his bike, then pressed the button beneath down. Two exhaust pipes extended out from the back of the bike. Flames spat out and sent his bike flying forward. Why a bicycle would need exhaust pipes and where the flames were coming from, he had no fecking clue, but it was clear a bunch of the bikes had some sort of "boost" capability. 

Farrin sped ahead. He zoomed past seven other bikes, then began to slow. A quick burst of speed rather than a persistent one. That worked. He wouldn't be out of Josie's sight should she fire up some of her bike's gimmicks to catch up. It was time they left some of the competition behind.

"Okay, it's official whose ever putting these devices together needs to start putting their efforts into the city infrastructure."

The words were dry and she just decided to say screw it and see what her bike could do! Pedaling at a brisk pace... well brisk for civilians she pressed down on the button and waited for the magic to start!

She waited,

and waited,

People were starting to pass her while she could only blink, still with a brisk pace of pedaling what in the world was going on? Where was the oomph? Windy had friggin jets, the least she could've gotten was a little speaker repeating the phrase 'you can do it!'

"Ah, ya stupid-"

She sorta kicked her bike only for the sucker to start to sputter and the next thing she knew, she was pedaling but no longer was the ground underneath her...

JOSIE WAS FLYING, FLYING BIKE!

She took back every snarky little jaded comment she made about the race, to hell with infrastructure this was awesome!

ne temporal field formed after another. The rules explicitly stated one student could not target another with their quirks. Farrin, however, was not targeting anyone. He was summoning deceleration fields in the shape of some rather large walls just ahead of the competition, and they were failing to avoid said fields. Nothing direct about that. 

Perhaps good news would be coming in threes because his decel fields were working wonders, and the next thing he knew, Josie was flying up above the track. "Deadly! Absolutely deadly!" Farrin shouted with whimsy, taking on his mother's Irish lingo for "brilliant."

Now that he didn't need to worry about leaving her so far behind, Farrin could commit to the race in full, just as he originally intended. It was time to grab another of those absolute wins. He leaned forward, his eyes narrowed, and their glow intensified. Another field formed, this one enwrapping his bike. Forget the gizmo boost. Now, he was zooming. 

The air cracked as sound itself was left in Farrin's wake. The bike beamed forward, blasting through the competition. He dipped left of one competitor, then weaved right around a rod, spinning three chains around as an obstacle. Then, it was all about acceleration. Farrin pedaled as hard as his legs could. He was a ground-bound fighter jet, or so it felt. 

Some of the other contestants fell off their mounts. Others tried to use their gimmicks to close the gap. One even fired what looked like a turtle shell his way, but nothing landed. First place would be his in a matter of seconds.

Ya know, Josie was starting to understand why everyone eventually somehow put their quirk to use so they could somehow use it to fly. I mean true swinging had its awesome moments and for now, if she had to choose between one or the other she'd choose the swinging. Come on though, flying was friggin awesome, no wonder so many people who had a fear of heights had it immediately dissipated the moment a flying quirk kicked in on their system.

Okay okay, Josie was having too much fun and needed to focus on the race. It seemed the harder she pedaled the more she could streamline with the wind in the area. So that was the goal keep pedaling hard enough so could continue her sky venture. However not too hard to completely break the character she had built so far, seemed plausible.

The way Windy was starting to break from the pack made sense, he drew the luck and got the Jet bike. Let's be real though he was so dedicated to his craft that he could've pressed that button and his wheels turned to jelly and he'd still find a way to leave these people with their mouths agape.

Though honestly, that'd be pretty interesting to see especially from her bird-eye view.

liss shaped a smile on Farrin. He was at home when letting loose with his quirk. Unshackled by the world's slow-mo Joe pace and beaming full speed ahead. He marched to the beat of his drum, and he was drumming like Tom Grosset. 

Farrin's feet were a blur of movement. The bike was hardly any more perceptible as he blew past another five contestants. Only three rode ahead of him now. One thumbed the switch on his bike, and oil spewed out from behind. A deceleration field ensnared the oil and bought Farrin the second he needed to weave around it, then ahead of the biker. 

A quick glance was shot behind and above to Josie. While hers wasn't the fastest bike, the fact that she could avoid the obstacles and combat, however indirect, on the track meant she could keep ahead of most of the competition. Perfect. She deserved to be rewarded for the risk taken in these challenges with a quirk that still needed some work as far as he knew. 

Then, he fixed his sights ahead—two more competitors. Farrin thumbed the switch on the other handle. Time to see what gizmo number two had in store. Two balloons swole just behind his bike, released from a slot just above those exhaust pipes. And now he was slowing down. 

"Oh no feckin' way this is happenin," Farrin shouted. 

He leaned up, then kicked his right leg back hard, popping the balloon. The bike began to swerve, speedup but out of control. He couldn't lose out now. Not when he was so close to overtaking the others. Another kick, this one to the balloon on the left, popping that one as well. 

It would have been a useful tool for last-second maneuvering to avoid danger, but otherwise, it was the ship's anchor. Farrin didn't do anchors. He was speed, entirely speed. He kicked up the acceleration field further, as fast as he could, then blasted forward. 

Second place now. First place was a speedster, too. His legs pedaled with superhuman muscles that saw him outpace the rest. But no musculature could outrun the march of time. Farrin leaned ahead, narrowed his profile, minimized wind resistance, and flew like a bullet along the track. Dust and echoes were all left in his wake. Farrin beamed beyond the frontrunner, then blasted across the finish line. The gap between him and second place wasn't massive, but a win was a win.

Josie had somewhat become her very own commentator while in the sky.

It was amazing to see the race and how people were neck and neck at points! Hell, there was even a moment where some dude came up in the sky with her and some reason or another bumped right into Josie!

"WHOA, DUDE WHAT THE HELL, WHAT WAS THAT!" The words were loud and angry while she kept pedalling and the person responded with angry words of their own saying its everyone for themselves. Despite that being true, it made no damn sense why with all this 'literal' sky surrounding them the jerk chose to smack right into Josie. Like be for real, what the heck was the point!?

The student ended up getting into a literal argument that took the other's attention away from the race and onto herself. Hell, it was all worth it though when the idiot started throwing less than stellar words he crashed into a big ole tree and fell back down to the ground. Lord almighty she had the biggest laugh, she was nowhere near first or Windy anymore and odds are was going to come in like close to the last of the pack but the laugh was worth it.

Man, she needed that.

Gliding back down towards the track she had finished the race while staring at her bike and the second button... Wonder what it did?
