Akaiken took her spot on her team's side of the field. She glanced at her teammate(s?) and back to the center. The redhead began stretching out her legs, sitting on the ground and performing her warmup. If she'd known it was a team event she wouldn't have signed up, and just opted for fighting her way through.  Although, maybe she could use this as training. After all part of being a pro hero was winning despite other heroes butting in and holding you back.


Yeah she could absolutely dodge the obstacles her teammates provided while still stealing flags and slaying the enemy. Speaking of the enemy, it was kind of exciting fighting unknowns in this sort of contest.

In any case she stood back up and cracked her back with another stretch before prepping to take off running as soon as that darn buzzer would signal the start.

Stealing a single flag wasn’t enough. If I were interested in victory then, of course, I’d prioritize efficiency — capturing a single flag and ensuring my team’s success. But the sports festival was a meaningless endeavor I had joined to sabotage a single student. The high was intoxicating. A side effect of having successfully tanked their scores was a hyperfixation on recapturing that feeling. I continued to enter events with the goal of ensuring the most people failed. Well, except my team.

When it came to teamwork I was the most compatible. A title I hadn’t earned but once I knew would fall to me as the year continued. My ability to bring the best out of my teammates was second to my ability to bring the worst out of my enemy. They would always feel as though they underperformed, because that was the nature of my presence.

“Tell me,” I ask my partner. Maybe more. Everyone’s getting situated still. “Do you have intel on the competition?”

I’d gather what info I could. Then, once the buzzer buzzed, I’d send black rabbits to scout the area ahead. We’ll get information one way or another.
