Finally, after a week's hard work she managed to complete Enma's new sword. It was her first commission in a while, although calling it a commission was generous since she had offered to make one for him, getting caught up in the moment. She had never made a sword for someone based on a first meeting without them asking first, but she had a good feeling about him, and didn't regret it for a second. Putting the finishing touches on the new sword she let it sit on display for a moment, inspecting it from multiple angles until she was sure she was satisfied. She had ensured him that she would make him a weapon of the finest quality, so anything less would be a stain on her pride as a weaponsmith. Aesthetically and structurally, the blade was up to code. What she wasn't sure about, the unpredictable element in all this was Enma's quirk. How was it going to react to him? It was one of those things she simply couldn't predict, and they hadn't had the time to have him test on the prototypes, so today would have to be the big testing day. The first time he got to hold a proper weapon made by her. Taking out her phone she dialed his number. If he didn't pick up she would resort to leaving him a voice message. ''Arashi-san, this is Masao.'' She kept introducing herself by name just in case her voice wasn't recognizable. ''Your new sword is finished and waiting for you at my workshop. Whenever you have the time you are more than welcome to stop by, I'll be in here working for most of the day.'' She glanced at the calendar that hung on her wall one more time, just to make sure she was free. ''If today doesn't work we can schedule a time and date as well.'' She smirked, her voice softening just a bit as she put a piece of cloth over the sword to hide it for now. ''I'm sure the hero course is keeping you busy.'' She paused for an awkward few seconds, her face turning red as she realized she didn't know how to end the call. She was used to being business formal and never smiling. ''Um... That is all I wanted to say, thank you for your time.'' She ended the call a bit stilted, letting out a sigh once she had hung up, burying her face in the palm of her hand. ''Thank you for your time?'' She repeated to herself, shaking her head gently. Although it was true she had finished Enma's sword, she had also worked on a model for herself. The swords looked nothing alike, with Masao's own being much simpler in design, but it would serve her for the time being and she could potentially bring it with her to their morning sparring matches going forward. Suddenly her eyes widened. ''Did I forget to tell him which room my workshop is in?'' Surely she couldn't just expect him to wander the support labs until he found it. She took out her phone and hastily messaged the room number, apologizing afterwards, followed by a bowing emoji for emphasis. enma

Awaiting the day that his commission would finish, Enma sat in his room with Raiju on his lap. He would feel over the symbol that formed on the sheathe, drawing it partially to see how the blade had changed. Papa Arashi had known a time would come where his grandson's heart would bleed into the sword wielded. Had he not wanted that to happen, Raiju would not have been inherited when Enma was finally accepted into U.A.U. Meeting Masao was unexpected and despite him not being a people person and her not being one either, there was immediate electricity between them. Circuits forming that wouldn't dare had it been anybody else. To meet such a wonderful crafter was a privilege, so was helping her hone her skills. As his phone buzzed, he sheathed Raiju and grabbed it to see, happily, that it was Masao. He would respectfully wrap his grandfather's katana up as he had done its weekly maintenance. I will be there soon, Ando-san. The question he was most divided by was what sword he would continue wielding. Would this commission be saved for when the canvas that was Raiju was sufficiently imprinted on? Would this new one overtake? What would he even do with each sword that passes this Journey? It was all up in the air. He had a gift for Masao as well. A watercolor made from his quirk that was abstract, but showed the vague figure of her. By abstract, it meant a collection of orbs and polygons that would come together for a rather cartoonish depiction of a women with the same color scheme as the dear swordsmith. He kept it safe on his person, and when he arrived he was nervous to pull it out. He liked how considerate she was about his schedule. With his first outing with Yuki Onna, his training with Deveraux and his own personal focus outside of the classes required; it was all a lot. Arriving at the workshop, he would enter as he expected her to be constantly busy as well. "Ando-san, I am here! I hope it was okay to let myself in, I know you're just as busy as I am." Enma caught himself smiling so easily in her place of peace and profession. "I...really appreciate you having me. Here, for my commission of course." While she wasn't looking, he'd furrow his brow and look off with almost a face of self-disgust. Enma, get a grip. What are you even saying? With hands behind his back, dressed in his typically thick fashion to cover up as much skin as possible, he wondered if it was a good time to mention his gift for her. With some extra time on her hands she wasn't sure what to do next. She had finished his sword, finished making a sword for herself as well. Study, perhaps? No... For some reason she couldn't focus, not when she was waiting for him to show up. Sure, she could read a line or two but her thoughts soon drifted to that morning where they first crossed swords, to that first time she saw him in the classroom. Funny. Usually when she thought of others it was either out of resentment, or someone she was dreading to see, like her roommate Ylva. Enma occupied a positive space in her mind. She never knew such a thing existed. Maybe somewhere along the way, she had found the key to making a friend, and why people seemed so obsessed with relying on others. When she saw his text she couldn't help but smile. How had his day been? Still training as always or was the constant stream of homework getting to him? Hopefully he was making sure to eat healthy every day. As she passed it, she paused in front of the mirror of her workshop and squinted at her own reflection. Was something off about her hair today? Maybe she would look better wearing it down instead of having it up in a ponytail. When he arrived she turned to face him, smiling. ''Arashi-san, welcome. Please by all means let yourself in, I am not so busy that I cannot make time for you.'' She was never going to tell him that she had actually just been polishing clean tools just now to pretend like she was working while he came in here. ''And what wonderful timing! The most skilled swordsman in all of UAU stepping foot inside my workshop just as his new sword has been finished.'' She turned and picked up the display the sword had been placed on, still leaving it obscured by a white piece of cloth. ''Whenever you're ready,'' she indicated the piece of cloth with her hand. ''feel free to take a look.'' Her heart was beating faster. She really wanted him to like this. Normally when forging weapons she knew when to call it quits, but Enma had really brought out the perfectionist in her. Once the katana was revealed, vibrant colors would take center stage in her ordinary workshop. A beautiful crimson blade, inspired by his fiery spirit, and own red eyes shone. The sea of crimson roses that she still thought about, whether she was in the middle of class or in the middle of training. Accompanying the blade which was begging to take the spotlight, a black handle contrasted it perfectly to put the emphasis where it needed to be. Finally, the finishing touches she had spent far too long on, the tsuba consisted of a swirl of stars, signifying the great heights he was reaching for, and would no doubt achieve in his career as a future hero. ''I hope it is to your liking.'' She bowed respectfully. When she closed her eyes she thought back to that first goodnight text she received from him. She had been looking up at the starry night sky. She replied in kind, wishing him a goodnight too, but had her text come in too quickly? Doubt flooded her mind. Did friends usually text each other right away, or was she supposed to wait a bit? Meeting new people was so complicated... Hopefully Enma could forgive her lack of experience. The Ando family covered etiquette and mannerisms in a formal setting, but making friends, or hanging around her peers was hardly something she had been encouraged to do growing up. enma

Most days, Enma spent time darting from one place to another to avoid people. Today, he darted as fast as he could just so he could see someone. It was a wonderful change, something that lit a flame in his heart as he stepped with purpose towards what was normally a terrifying prospect. There he was, watching Masao place some well-maintained tools down and retrieve the cloth-covered prize of their meeting. "And when I train, you're welcome to join me. There aren't any I offer that to." How bold, how confident!? His fingers were behind his back and shivering as he realized he so boldly invited her to just be around him. Clearing his throat, he would wait patiently as she presented something more stunning than he could ever imagine. The original idea he saw was simpler, but this was absolutely gorgeous. Gently retrieving it, he inspected the blade and its anatomy. Swinging it around to get a feel for its weight, he would eventually angle it so that it pointed away from them. "The stars in the tsuba...the crimson blade and black wrap and handle. I'd be amiss if I didn't make mention of how it matches my eyes." A soft chuckle, a warm expression. Enma was in his happy place now that Masao put this blade in his hands. Immediately, he fell in love with it. Setting it carefully back where it was resting, he put his hands on the counter and deeply inhaled. "Masao, I truly appreciate this work of art. I have something for you." With a gusto of confidence, he pulled the art piece from his person and handed it as a scroll for her to unravel and see. The beauty of his quirk was how something like this wasn't temporary. From his own being, a work of art to show his appreciation. "I'm going to turn around while you look at it. Please don't laugh." Crossing his arms and turning his back to Masao, his face became a mess of anxiety. He'd never given someone a gift before. He also never used his quirk to make another person a work of art. He might not be the best, but he knew that a bond like this was special when his quirk didn't fade after a day when painting with it. How would she receive it? Was it too much? A thing like this, so special in how it came to be, was not a simple gesture. He liked her. Masao Ando

She was glad that, despite the difference in their journey, how he was a much more capable fighter than her he still wanted to train with her. She was used to making bad first impressions by now, but maybe she had gotten better somewhere along the way? ''I feel honored, Arashi-san. I will gladly take you up on that offer. In a similar vein, the door to my workshop is always open.'' She paused for a moment. ''Except when I'm not here myself.'' She added with a small smirk. ''You noticed?'' She let out a small chuckle. ''I would expect nothing less of the great Helsing. The sword is weighted, but I assumed that would be no problem for you.'' Not because she had looked at his muscles and remembered them or anything! It was just- it was to help him! To get a better sword, one suited to his build, that's all it was! ''I will leave the task of naming the katana to you, its sole wielder.''What he said next surprised her a bit. ''Something for me?'' She blinked her eyes, keeping her smile as she looked at him. This wasn't their arrangement, but she was curious what he was talking about. Hopefully it wasn't money. The sword was a gift, but at the same time she would feel bad turning down an offer of payment. ''By all means.'' She didn't know what to expect, but knowing him it was something thoughtful. She definitely did not expect a gorgeous art piece. Unraveling the scroll slowly, her jaw dropped once she saw what, or who it was depicting. ''E-Enma... Arashi-san! This is..'' She swiftly corrected herself, her face growing redder than her hair. ''It's stunning... You made this for me?'' She had received birthday gifts before and the like, but never anything that felt this personal. ''It's...'' She smiled, she couldn't help it, ''you leave me at a loss for words.'' Her heart beat fast again, like she was in the middle of a fight, except there was no fight to speak of. She looked over at Enma. Did he turn around because he was embarrassed? ''Th-Thank you.'' She rolled the scroll back together very gently. ''I'll cherish this gift. Finding a place to display a piece of art of such beauty and craftsmanship will prove quite the welcome challenge.'' She bowed formally, smiling at him. Wait, how did they carry on from here? Oh right! ''U-Um, there's another function to your new katana, but it is best demonstrated when you swing it. How about we go outside so you can test it?'' This warmth in her cheeks, it didn't seem to fade. Was her face red? Hopefully not too red. Oh no, even just thinking about it made her flush even more. ''I have a sword I need to test too.'' She plucked a large rose from off the counter. ''I call this one 'Rosaria','' The hilt and guard was designed to make it look like a rose, but at will, Masao activated a mechanism in the sword that made a blade shoot out of the top. ''The blade is retractable, making it easier to carry, as well as a potential surprise weapon.''Once they made their way out to the training fields she indicated a couple of training dummies she had set up. ''Sharp to the touch, your katana cuts with the efficiency expected of the weapon, however, there is another secret component to it. I encourage you to try it out and see if you can find it, Arashi-san.'' If she was being too cryptic she could just tell him, but something told her he was the type of guy who liked to learn by doing. enma

There weren't many safe spaces for Enma outside of his dorm. The Arashi residence was full of his father's overbearing nature and while he loved and respected Papa Arashi, that parental strictness ran in the blood. It made him wonder if he'd ever be a father like that someday, if he ever would be as becoming a hero meant accepting many consequences. The danger of revenge was very real, so even having a friend could come to bite him in the rear someday. To let fear swallow him would mean he was too weak to be a hero anyways. Now that Masao offered her safe space to him, there was a sunshine in his heart. "M-- Ando-san, I know what kind of gesture it is to let someone into your space like this. It doesn't go unappreciated." Nodding firmly, he tested the sword further the moments leading up to his gift. "I can feel it, there will be many a sundered armor and if someone's trapped, I can cleave the stone."His happiness was not to be understated, he couldn't even begin to understand how she pulled it off. When it came to the final detail regarding its name, he knew he couldn't make a hasty decision. It would be poetic to name it then, but maybe its time had not come. Once the sword was ready to be put on the Journey, he would most certainly have it. "I want it to be perfect, so I shall take care of the blade and when its time to retire Raiju, I will not let it go unnamed."In truth, Enma wanted it to be a reflection of their bond. A positive note that said it was more than a commission from a well-renowned smith. Masao was quickly becoming someone of great admiration, so he could not so frivolously trot through the process without first learning the blade. As it came time to hear her reaction to the work of art, anxiety almost took his soul to Yomi. "I'm glad you like it. I don't use...that part of my quirk often."Turning around, there was a blush to his cheeks that he couldn't hide. With the perfect diversion of her new sword, he took the nameless sword and sheathed and held it closely as if he never wanted to let it go. "Amazing ingenuity, Ando-san. Your family should be proud, that is much more versatile and useful in the field." Following her, they would eventually find themselves in the training grounds where he could fly free. Unsheathing the blade and truly feeling its weight, he would dice up one of the training dummies and felt the blade sing through them. Admittedly, it was better than Raiju at cutting. Maybe it was the weight making better use of his strength, maybe it was a finer edge truly. "Oh, Papa Arashi would really like you." He said whimsically, searching for the function Masao was hinting at. Eventually, he found a switch on the hilt that would mechanically change the edge of the blade into a blunted one, akin to bokken. Smashing through the training dummy, he looked at her with the most innocent joy on his face. "Masao! This is the perfect katana for someone like me. Thank-you, truly." He realized that alternating between names for her was happening more frequently, which made him wonder if it meant something. At the very least, it did mean one thing: Masao was amazing. enma

For some reason his answer made her realize how big of a deal it was that she had basically given him a free pass to come and hang out here whenever he wanted. It didn't feel like a big deal to her. If anything, she just wanted to return the favor, and more importantly, for entirely selfish reasons she wanted to get to know him better. Enma wasn't just another customer to her, he wasn't just a fellow student either, he was someone she not only tolerated being around, but wanted to be around as much as she could. She wanted to say something in return, how it wasn't a big deal at all, and yet she found herself unable to answer, her face turning a little red as she smiled and returned his nod. She was over the moon to see how satisfied he was with the sword. It was the only thing that kept her from staring at the art piece he had made of her. How long had he spent on it? When she thought about how he had spent his free time thinking about her, creating something so personal, it made her feel incredibly happy. ''There is no doubt in my heart- mind-'' she quickly corrected herself, feeling a little flustered. Wasn't it getting hot in here? ''-that you will take good care of it.'' How was the sword going to change in the hands of Enma? What journey would he take it on? What path was he going to carve? She could hardly wait to see the results. Every time she closed her eyes she still vividly saw the first time he used his quirk in front of her, a beautiful kaleidoscope of colors lighting up her world. ''It's perfect.'' She smiled, hardly able to let go of the scroll. A gift from Enma Arashi... How could she not treasure that with all her soul? She appreciated the sentiment, to hear it coming from him was more important than to hear any words of validation or affirmation from her family. However, she knew deep down that it would take much more than these simple weapons to get her family to notice her and more critically, take her seriously. She took a deep breath as they got outside, taking in the fresh air and cold breeze that would help clear her head. She had been such a mess lately, unable to focus, blushing, finding her heart was racing even when she wasn't exercising. She put one hand on her hip and watched with admiration as Enma diced up a training dummy. One day she wanted to be that good too. To move with such precision and speed, so effortlessly. She was inspired to try harder because of him. To become someone who could make a difference, who could protect people. What he said next resonated with her heart, instantly causing it to race faster again. The innocent joy on his face, the way he said her first name. She had unlocked a core memory today, a moment she was going to play on repeat while eating dinner, or texting him later today before going to bed. ''I-It's... I am overjoyed that you find it to your liking.'' She smiled, rubbing the back of her neck with her hand while her face lit up again. She couldn't believe her own luck, that she had met Enma, gotten to see his smile, such genuine and real joy... While she wanted to live in the moment, take it all in and enjoy every second with him, part of her couldn't help thinking, was there something she could do to get him to smile like that again? ''It will be sure to catch your opponents off-guard. No one expects a sharp blade to turn dull, but stay just as effective as it was before.'' All the more reason it was the perfect weapon for him. Anyone lesser than Enma Arashi would not know how to utilize such a weapon to its full potential, but she had faith in him after seeing him in action, after hearing him talk about his goals and dreams. Dreams she was going to help him turn into reality. Lining up her own strike more carefully than Enma, she made sure to take her time and rehearse the swing in her head, before striking the doll, drawing her sword and bringing out the blade just in time to cut a gash into its torso. Her sword was light and swift, but sturdy. It was the perfect weapon for someone like her who couldn't wield weighted swords without her quirk, and who needed a faster weapon to offset the weight of her armor. As they continued to practice with their new weapons, Masao inspected the blade of her sword timidly before clicking the mechanism that let it retract. ''...Arashi-san.'' She started up slowly, not turning to face him. She wasn't even sure it was appropriate to bring this up, but she had already spoken so it was too late to back out now. ''I noticed you have been calling me by my first name.'' There it was again, her heartbeat. It was so loud it drowned out all other sounds. She finally turned to look at him, although she couldn't look for too long before she had to redirect her gaze to the ground or the tree line behind him. ''I have been thinking, since we train together... And... Maybe it would be easier...'' Oh no she was completely fumbling over her words. ''You can forego calling me Ando-san. If you want, please call me Masao.'' She finished with a bow, both to be formal, but also to hide her face and the mess of emotions that had taken hold of her. enma

Emotions were a tricky thing to navigate when someone wasn't raised to be emotional. His father's jolly outside and harsh inside made Enma feel like happiness was fake. His grandfather trained him to be an efficient swordsman in a variety of methods that broke and rebuilt his body. Sometimes, when Enma looked in the mirror without his clothes, he saw a canvas of scars not only externally...but internally. To feel happiness and excitement shared with another person felt like a unraveling a mystery of the world. So this was what it felt like? The territory was unfamiliar and he needed Masao's hand in it. There was something igniting in his heart that he momentarily thought was like when he ate too much spicy food, but it was far greater of a feeling than that. Fire in his belly, fire in his heart; Enma felt like a forge of his own. Looking at Masao practice with her own sword, he momentarily burped translucent, orange energy that rolled out like fire before dissipating as it had no surface to cling to. Clenching his stomach like there was something knotting it up, Enma didn't expect his quirk to come out in such a way. She eventually would inspect her sword and make sure it would retract as intended. The beauty of Masao scintillated to the swordsman, as he pondered being around someone so remarkable. Clearing his throat and clutching his new sword closely, he anticipated her next words. She asked him to forego the formalities, and it felt like a thing only the two of them would share. To have a unique bond and unique boundaries, it brought him closer to her. Stepping into her space in a trance-like captivation, he looked up at her with his rosy eyes and while his tone would not give it away, felt the fluctuating beat of his heart almost make him stammer. "Of course, Masao. I'd like to hear you call me Enma instead of Arashi." After she had bowed, he had been too close to do the same. This time, Enma couldn't realize that he was in her space as her reddened face had charmed him so. "Masao, I'd like to see you outside of our training or transactions." Radiating from his chest was the imprint of a conventional, rosy heart. Another moment out of his control, but as the light shimmered across his face, he gave an anxious yelp and covered his chest. When he looked back at Masao, he looked for her judgment and showed her a face of fear. Masao Ando

What was this feeling. She wasn't tired, she hadn't even been moving her body that much. Was it happiness that he was so thrilled with the katana she had made for him? Perhaps partly, but that wasn't the whole story. She had felt happy and validated when others liked her weapons in the past, but not like this. Not like she was with Enma. This desire to see him every day, to text him even just to send pictures of what she was doing, or to wish him a goodnight's sleep. To have him call her by her first name. She was experiencing a lot of new things she wasn't emotionally equipped to deal with, but maybe with his help... Enma would understand what it was like, right? She thought she heard a sound, something like a burp come from him earlier, but she wrote it off as just being her imagination. He had been on her mind a lot lately, a lot more than she thought any one person could think about another. When she requested for him to call her by her first name her heart was racing, almost as if she had activated her quirk, but she wasn't clad in armor. Her defenses were down, she felt more vulnerable than ever before. She blinked her eyes when he stepped closer. She was surprised, but she didn't back away. If anything, her eyes locked with the sea of roses she saw in his, leaving her enchanted once more. Her heart skipped a beat then and there. He not only wanted to call her Masao, but requested she use his first name too. Did she have the strength? The courage? She was blushing like mad and had no way to hide it now. ''En-...'' She wanted to see him too! Not just for training, not just for business! Casually, all the time. She wanted to hang out and not worry about what they were doing. She wanted to learn more about him, even the little details or the mundane stuff. She needed to know Enma Arashi. Her eyes drifted downwards as she noticed the imprint radiating from his chest, but only for a split second. His reaction, his face of fear. Was he hurting? Concern filled her eyes. ''Are you okay?'' She reached out, carefully putting a hand on his shoulder if he would allow it. ''I... Enma.'' Saying his name felt like an honor, a privilege. Her heart was beating so loudly she could barely hear herself think. ''Enma, I'd like to see you more often too...'' She trailed off, her face lighting up again as she wasn't sure what to say. Between his reaction and the scars on his body her concern grew again. ''Would you like me to escort you to the infirmary?'' She spoke a lot softer now, for fear of startling him. Her name had never sounded good to her ears. Not since she first learned to respond to it and not for the majority of her life. But when Enma said it, it made her indescribably happy. enma

Acceptance. Enma felt it in its purest form for the first time. He wasn't trying to be a good warrior for Papa Arashi nor was he fighting the wishes of his father. Standing before Masao, their dance of anxious words finding their steps among one another, Enma felt her pure acceptance. He didn't know how long it would last, if she would always see him as a good companion, but he relished it. Words couldn't describe what was going on, but his chest shined even more brilliantly than before. "No, I just...no, I'm fine. Masao." Saying her name just to say it, he felt a shiver as he eagerly awaited a returned call. The word lingered, alone but so intimate. Masao. That classic heart emblem appearing over the part of his chest where his heart was, it felt right. Finally tensing every inch of muscle in his body to regain control over his quirk, he let the light die down. He didn't know where to go from here. Silence wasn't bad, it was ma. Space that was necessary to the store they were painting. There was, however, only space in their moment; not between the two physically. Enma didn't dare touch her, but eventually he would break the timeless moment between them to step away in preparation to depart. "I'd like to know more about you. Let's plan something together that doesn't involve work. Text me when you make it home, Masao."With a small, nervous smile, he nodded before walking away. Leaving the tension between them to build in pursuit of something greater, he took the gift she gave and cherished it physically. As he stepped further away, questions began splashing from each cycle. Questions that stemmed from caring about people. His code of conduct was in question, his motivations were in question, his everything was in question. But other questions bloomed, ones that were introducing new possibilities. A tug of war was happening internally, but it paved the way for a new path that Enma didn't need to take alone. All thanks to Masao. Masao Ando

The heart emblem radiating from his chest mirrored exactly how she felt, lights sparking between them as if to signify that they could have something special. His quirk was something beautiful, magical, and it paled in comparison to the man who possessed it. Standing this close to him she realized it wasn't just a fluke, he really was so handsome that it got to her head. Standing before him she might have looked quiet to the outside observer, but the feelings inside of her were unmistakably, deafeningly loud. ''If you say so... But if there's anything. You can talk to me, Enma.'' She still couldn't help but feel concern for him. The scars, the instability of his quirk, was he going through a lot more than she initially thought? All she could do was offer her ear, even if she wasn't as convincingly confident as she usually tried to appear. What did people say at times like this? Her mind was searching for an answer, a topic, anything she could bring up to fill the silence between them. A silence she thoroughly enjoyed, but one which she feared he didn't. When he broke away she looked after him, bowing her head. ''O-Of course!'' She finally blurted out, surprised by how much her nerves affected the way she spoke. ''Get home safe, Enma. I'll message you.'' She smirked, raising her hand to give him a small wave as he presumably headed back to the dorms. As soon as he was out of view she sat down and curled into herself. ''Get home safe?'' She whispered to herself, cringing over her choice of words. Once she had gotten over herself she started heading back too. She found herself repeating his name out loud, just to feel what it was like to say. It was charming, comforting, even a little funny as saying his name and thinking about it made her giggle to herself. Back in her room she unfurled the scroll he had given her earlier, gorgeous, colorful shapes coming together to light up her room as she hung it up on her wall. The light was radiant, and somehow only a fraction of what it felt like when his rosy eyes looked her way. She traced a careful hand over the scroll, feeling the ink, the paint, the paint he had used to make something for her. She was alone in her room, and yet she felt closer to Enma than she ever had to any other person before. She needed to see him again. Taking out her phone, she finally messaged him. ''I'm home.''enma
