I HAVE PROMISES TO KEEP
AND MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP
It wasn’t the usual place.
The usual place was warm and welcoming with its familiarity and bittersweet in its nostalgia. This dive bar was warm too, but with the body heat of sweaty strangers deeper into pints of beer than they were hours spent on consumption. Sharp odors of the unclean mingled with astringent notes of liquor spilled across a floor sticky with more than just the wayward booze. This place had seen its fair share of blood spilled. Not like the usual place.
Maybe that was why Kioko found herself frequenting such a shoddy establishment instead of finding comfort in the usual place. She was a Nobody to be sure, but without the other two, she was just a nobody — one undeserving of solace outside of those few nights they still managed to both find and lose themselves and each other in memories of who they once were and sometimes, who they wanted to really be. Kioko couldn’t bring herself to drag the filth of the underworld across the threshold for a moment of lonely reprieve. So she was here and not at the usual place.
Kioko had taken a seat in a secluded booth farthest from the door where she could see said entrance and keep her back to a wall. She nursed a lemon drop as she watched inebriated fools teeter around pool tables and stumble off to never-cleaned bathrooms in between games. They were kept at bay from ever approaching her with a stare so sharp and withering it could make even the most lustful blood run ice cold.
Every now and then in between glaring at regulars, she checked her newest burner phone. Only two people had the number so far. She had hoped one of them might text so she could abscond from the backdrop of her rock bottom in favor of the usual place. They did not. So she finished one drink and moved onto the next. Pausing only to bribe the jukebox to play something besides whatever country music trash had been dominating the speakers for far too long. The music shifted, but the vibe of the bar and its drunk populace did not.
Not yet.

[nospaces] [attr="class","Felonixbiggie"] [attr="class","Felonixtextie"] “Hey there hot stuff, come here often? … No, that’s awful.”[break][break]
He had finally made it. Well kind of made it. Well, he moved from one place to another, and that was certainly a start. He hadn’t been in Japan for more than a week before his search had led him to the front door of a seedy dive bar, something that seemed like it would have felt more at home in the middle of Arizona than it would in Japan. Yet, she was inside. Calling to him.[break][break]
“Hey, that’s a pretty… Purple.. Thing… damn it, no.”[break][break]
The purple liquid braced against his arm beneath his shirt rippled and shimmered at the thought. For months, years even, her individual pieces called out to him, signaling their desire to become whole again. He had nearly brought her to completion, but her own shifting reminded him that he had yet to do enough for her. If it hadn’t been for…[break][break]
“Yo, what say you and me get out of here and I apologize for killing your… Nope, that felt bad before I even thought it.”[break][break]
It was true. The girl, well, the other ‘she’ on the inside and Levi shared a storied past, even if she hadn’t realized it yet. Still, that wasn’t necessarily something one brought up after chasing down leads and clues for the better part of a year before suddenly arriving on her doorstep.[break][break]
“Alright Levi, just… Play it cool, wing it. You got this.”[break][break]
Shoving his own nerves deep down beneath his heart’s lock and key, Levi moved to open the door of the bar. He had not been expecting the second door, however: An entry-barring odor so strong that one could almost feel drunk on fumes alone. Holding his breath, he prevailed through the bar in search of his prey.[break][break]
And there she was. Finally. Her all-black outfit nearly disguised her as a shadow, the faintest glimpse of her face betraying her attempted wall-melding as she hid in a distant booth. With nothing but resolve, Levi pushed through the crowded bar, held breath in tow, before stealing the seat across from her.[break][break]
There she sat. Kushiki Kioko. Ex-Heiress to the Kushiki throne. Daughter to…[break][break]
He stared in awkward silence for a moment before releasing a long-overdue gasp. His breath escaping, the fumes getting to his mind, Levi panicked. Froze. Stage fright seized his tongue as the gasp ended, and he finally uttered…[break][break]
“Do you remember the tallest man you’ve ever seen?”

I HAVE PROMISES TO KEEP
AND MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP
Slender fingers drummed absentmindedly against the table in front of her. Kioko stared at her drink then the door and then her phone again. Sometimes she fidgeted with a silver bracelet on her left wrist, twisting it this way and that to either hide or reveal the metallic purple insert. The process repeated over and over until Kioko thought she might lose her mind in a concoction of nihilism, existential dread, and alcohol. The definition of insanity truly was doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Yet here Kioko was mid-gaze shift toward the do-
Someone new entered.
That wasn’t uncommon in a nightlife venue. What was out of place, however, was the fact that this man immediately locked his own gaze upon her. Stranger still was the brute force bee line he made toward her through the sea of booze-addled blue and white collar workers alike. Yet nothing topped what followed his abrupt self-seating service at Kioko’s table — an act met with both a slitted eye glare and a hiss that rolled off her forked tongue as she coiled in preparation to act.
But his words which somehow managed to slip free of the chokehold the obvious nervousness had on him headed off any further act of irritation at the proverbial pass. The sheer stupidity, fumbling, and out of left field nature of the words reminded Kioko of others she found more endearing than most. There was another pause, this time on her behalf before she snorted and rolled her eyes. Apparently he was just another hormone fueled twenty-something with an eye for quality that was quicker than his ability to form a coherent sentence.
Still, because he did remind Kioko of those couple of Nobodies in particular if they had been merged into one awkward fool instead of just one or the other, she would humor him. For now. “You’re an idiot.” She knocked back the rest of her second drink. “I’m taller than most men and those that are taller than me are irrelevant. So no. I don’t remember them.” Except she did. Her grandfather had a few inches on her and she would never forget him and what he had enabled to happen with his incompetence. Those memories were demons to deal with later though. For now she leaned forward across the table and gave the man more than just a once over with her piercing stare.
“Buy me another drink and you can stay until I get bored of you. Otherwise, go away. Now.”

[nospaces] [attr="class","Felonixbiggie"] [attr="class","Felonixtextie"]An awkward silence sat between the two despite the blasting of the jukebox in the background. He considered turning down the volume before dismissing the notion. The noise would drown out their conversation to any errant eavesdroppers.[break][break]
Alright, Levi, you've got it, you're in... This is the infamous 'Kioko Stare' you've read about. You've studied this. You've prepared for this. You understand on a fundamental level... oh god it's so much worse than I imagined.[break][break]
It was worse. The icy glare. The snake eyes. It was one thing to read about it in a newspaper. It was another thing entirely to see it stare back into your soul. The only thing that helped alleviate the tension was a snort and an eye roll that turned her gaze away.[break][break]
"So you remember their irrelevance? Seems like it'd just be easier to remember them." He scanned the table, eyeing the drink she had already been nursing. What the hell was that supposed to be? A yellow Gin and Tonic? A pale Rum and Colk? Something something egg?[break][break]
"Uh, yeah! Sure, a drink! Waiter!" He hung his hand in the air for far too long before realizing that a classy establishment such as this probably didn't have a garcon to bring them a drink. They probably serve stupid flat pizza here too...[break][break]
He quickly brought his hand down at the thought before shuffling out of the booth to shamble his way to the bar. I would like to say his exit was as established and masculine as his entry, but... Frankly, it wasn't. I mean, have you ever tried to exit a booth?[break][break]
"Hey, Barkeep. Two of whatever she's having. And a whiskey for me."[break][break]
"Her? Two Lemon Drops?"[break][break]
The crowd of zombie-like blue collars hooting and hollering behind Levi drowned out the noise of the bartender as he tried again.[break][break]
"TWO OF WHATEVER SHE'S HAVING. WHAT'D YOU SAY?"[break][break]
The bartender shook his head. "LEMON DROPS."[break][break]
Levi stared blankly before nodding. "...VERY PROFOUND, I SUPPOSE LEMONS DO DROP... TO THE GROUND... EVENTUALLY... IS ALL SMALL TALK IN JAPAN LIKE THIS?"[break][break]
The bartender just shook his head again before producing the three drinks requested. Levi smiled and nodded, grabbing the three glasses as best he could and returning to Kioko's table. "Alright, so I got you two of whatev..." The second Lemon Drop slipped from his hand, glass shattering as sweet precious liquor poured against the floor. "One of whatever it was you were drinking! Hopefully, I got the right drink for the infamous Kushiki Kioko!"[break][break]
He placed the drinks on the table before sliding himself into the booth once more. See, gravity on the way down was much more kind than the gravity of standing...[break][break]
Wait, what did I just say?[break][break]
Shit.

I HAVE PROMISES TO KEEP
AND MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP
A finely sculpted brow rose in response to what Kioko assumed to be a quip. Then again, he didn’t seem to be the sharpest blade in the arsenal. Was he more stupid than malicious? Kioko leaned back into her side of the booth, arms folded over her chest. The body language signaled the disinterest setting in over how mundane her temporary toy was turning out to be.
He was obedient at least. Kioko watched him leave to acquire what she had requested. His absence was the best part of the encounter so far. Pity it wouldn’t last long as the bartender had more than one brain cell to rub together and knew what Kioko’s order had been. Lemon drops in a dive bar weren’t exactly the norm. Neither was the presence of someone as both elegant and intimidating as Kioko herself.
Air escaped past dark painted lips in a half-hiss and half-sigh upon his return. Awkwardness wasn’t confined to just his demeanor. It seemed to seep into his movements too given his clumsy fumble of the glass. What kind of person couldn’t handle carrying three drinks?
No thank you was issued on her behalf for the delivery. Kioko simply rolled her eyes once more, adjusted her feet away from the slowly expanding pool of liquor and glass, and reached for the lemon drop. Her hand halted just before her sharp black nails made contact with the drink.
He had said her name.
Her gaze which had drifted to her order immediately snapped back to the stranger and her hand retracted back to the safety of her own person. Dozens of different scenarios flashed through the mind behind the glare she gave him in response to her name dropping off his tongue so casually and without introduction. Of the aforementioned scenarios, only one seemed to resonate given her situation. It had been a year since her release after all. It only made sense that the vultures would swoop in to pick at the carcass that was the remains of her former life.
“I am not interested in talking to journalistic scavengers,” she hissed. Literally. Kioko extracted herself from the booth and unlike Levi, she managed to do so gracefully. She turned away from him only to nearly run into another blonde man that looked even more middle aged than the first. He had been lurking nearby ever since the "journalist" had returned to the table. It had apparently been some sort of signal to the touch starved masses that Kioko was any sort of approachable.
She wasn’t.
“Move.”
And so he did. He reached out to grab her by the arm to try and pull her closer to him and in doing so, he made contact with the bracelet around her wrist. The lights flickered for a moment as her wrath called out in resonance with the small amounts of mercury in the bulbs, but Kioko reigned herself in — between her record as a murderer and her secret identity as a Villain now, she couldn’t afford to bring the police crashing down upon her over something as trivial as lashing out at a lecherous drunkard. So what was she to do then?

[nospaces] [attr="class","Felonixbiggie"] [attr="class","Felonixtextie"]Shit... SHIT![break][break]
The awkward silence hung between the two as Kioko retracted her hand away from the glass. Did she think he had poisoned it? No, the liquid pooling around his boots surely must have told her that he wouldn't have wasted poison in such a manner. Then what exactly was she thinking? She couldn't have already figured him out, could she? She was as smart as his file on her was extensive, but even she couldn't have known about...[break][break]
A journalist? He paused in his blank stare, as though a motion was possible.[break][break]
No no, that could work... That would explain... Oh my god, am I a journalist??[break][break]
He wasn't afforded a moment to respond before Kioko gracefully exited the booth *(Writer's Note: Seriously, how. That alone needs to be a skill.)* He shuffled out of his seat to follow, glancing back at the drinks on the table. It'd be a shame to let them go to waste... His gaze drifted back to the girl walking away from him... before looking back to the drinks... then back to the girl... Damn it Levi, you can get more drinks later, chase after her![break][break]
She hadn't made it far. Like staring in a mirror from a future, some other blonde was all up in her business. Like, seriously, huge lack of respect for personal space. As she barked her command, even Levi felt a shiver running down his spine. God I hope I'm never on the receiving end of that tone... Oh... wait...[break][break]
The confused mirror image seemed to misunderstand her words... word. Instead of making the smart decision, he reached out, grasping at Kioko's bracelet as its shimmering hue grasped Levi's attention. Bingo.[break][break]
He stepped forward, placing himself directly behind Kioko and the stranger. His hand slipped into his jacket, producing a soft pack of cigarettes as he nudged one free, placing it on the edge of his lips. "Hey buddy, got a light?"[break][break]
The stranger's confused look was the last thing Levi saw as darkness overtook the bar. Eyesight in Levi's left eye faded in sync with the room as his hand wrapped around the back of the stranger's neck. The sound of skull colliding with wood filled the air before Levi's hand was free. 3 seconds was all it took, all he needed as the lights came back on. His hand slipped back into his jacket once more, this time producing a lighter.[break][break]
"Never mind."[break][break]
Levi's enjoyment of his moment was short-lived as he overheard a blue and white collar not far from where he and Kioko stood.[break][break]
"Didyas just sock my friesn?"[break][break]
"Ehh? I ain't even closs to 'im!"[break][break]
"Nah, yer been eyeing us all NIGHT!"[break][break]
Stimulating drunken conversation aside, it didn't take long for a bottle to fly through the air at the alleged (and admittedly rather distant) assailant. Bottles turned into silverware. Silverware into barstools. In a matter of only a few short seconds, chaos descended on the dive.

I HAVE PROMISES TO KEEP
AND MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP
Stabbing. Strangling. Stomping.
Each potential act of retaliation for the offense against her person was deemed too obvious an act to get away with in a full bar. As if things were not bad enough, the journalist had followed her from the booth. The obvious assumption was that he wanted a better angle with which to witness the further descent of the Kushiki heiress. It would be the perfect scoop to have exclusivity on. With the exception of her Quirk, everything about the incident with her brother had been highly publicized. People would be ravenous for a follow-up. Especially if it made her look worse. Which she was, but no one had yet to connect Kushiki Kioko to Meliora.
And if she had her way, no one ever would.
Kioko was about to tell the first blonde to get lost. As annoying as it was that someone had dared to touch her, a nosy reporter was infinitely worse. She didn’t get a chance though. He spoke first and… asked the other man for a light?
There was a flicker of confusion across Kioko’s face as well. Granted, hers went unseen as blackout claimed dominion over the space — and not because of her for once. She had reclaimed control over herself to be certain, but a different kind of CTRL had taken over. Entirely unbeknownst to her. Well. Not entirely.
Kioko was smart. She knew something was at play as soon as the lights went out. The sudden thud from close by and her wrist being released only confirmed that. Time wasn’t on her side when it came to figuring out just what had happened though. Chaos erupted around them in a tidal wave that threatened to pull them beneath the current as well.
She raised her right hand to her mouth as if surprised. She was, but that wasn’t the reason behind the motion. Her lips parted and liquid metal flowed past forked tongue and sharp fangs to coat the center of her palm. Just in case.
Better safe than sorry paid off immediately as a second hand laid claim on Kioko. This time it clamped down over her shoulder. She angled her head back to look at the much shorter assailant, staring him down with a singular serpentine eye that locked him in a Medusa’s hold as he realized the mistake he made. Distracted by the gaze, he was wholly unaware of the hidden metal shifting from Kioko’s palm to cover her elbow that she then drove into his face.
The sickness from both having his nose rupture into a shower of blood combined with the mercury poisoning was immediate. He fell backward, rolled over on his side, and threw up before clutching his face. Someone immediately stepped in the vomit. Kioko grimaced then side-stepped a glass hurled in her direction before she locked the original stranger into her irritated stare amid the unending madness around them to further distract him from the metal returning to her palm before it hid itself up her sleeve.
“This is your fault.”
She didn’t mean the lights. Or even the incident that started the fight. She had no way of knowing that. Yet. Kioko simply meant his very presence at her table had set the whole thing in motion. Which it had.
“I hope you get clocked.”
He was lucky she couldn’t afford to hit a member of the press herself.

A brief yet present feeling of euphoria washed over Levi's body as the nicotine from his cigarette hit his system. It was as though he was standing on a cloud, sans bar fight. God, what had it been? 20 minutes? Too long. His sheer enjoyment of the filtered tobacco partially blocked his focus as Kioko handily dispatched another newcomer to the fray, a solid palm strike to the nose and the contender was out for the count.[break][break]
The pure joy was immediately ripped away from him as a glass flew into focus. Had it not been for Kioko's movement, it might have found purchase on his own face. "Shit!" Nearly as rude as whoever had thrown the glass were Kioko's words! I mean, she was right! But she didn't have to say it...[break][break]
"Hey, I didn't do any of this! I just wanted a smoke! Haven't you ever lost your lighter before?" He paused. No, of course she hasn't, she doesn't smoke. Come on Levi, you know this! At least she wasn't running away.. well, fully running away yet. "Listen, I just..."[break][break]
An immediate interruption came in the form of a pool cue breaking in half against his back. Levi remained standing for the time being, yet winced in pain as he turned to see the smarmy bastard who thought their actions wise. Skylark rippled around his wrist, called to action before he pulled his focus back to Kioko, or rather, her bracelet. No, I can't let her see you, not yet. In an unknowingly similar manner, Levi reached out to grasp at the man's shirt. A small tendril of Skylark's liquid metal reached out from his cuff to latch onto the man's clothes, pulling him closer as his head jerked backward from momentum. As it corrected to its natural position, the man's forehead collided with Levi's. The faint shimmer of purple liquid dripping back into Levi's collar would be the last thing his pool-stick-wielding assailant would see. Seeing an opportunity, Levi took half of the splintered pool stick from the ground.[break][break]
"Listen, I'm just tryna talk! Do you even see a..." Oh shit, what do journalists have again? Are those the TV ones or the war-torn ones? 50/50 Levi, take a guess. "Camera? In my hands? I promise I'm just here to talk!"[break][break]
And fight, apparently. Although that secondary objective was beginning to take more priority than he had intended.

I HAVE PROMISES TO KEEP
AND MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP
Perhaps her awareness wasn’t what it once was. She was slumming it, after all. Two drinks in, a crowded chaotic bar, and an obstacle directly before her. Any of the reasons were good enough to justify why Kioko’s might not have seen the assailant with their chosen improvised weapon lunge for Levi after his initial denial of her claim. But she did see them. Her peripheral vision caught motion from behind Levi thanks to the natural six inches she had on him boosted by another three thanks to her heels. She simply opted to say nothing to him nor give away that she knew by keeping her serpentine gaze fully locked upon him.
She had been honest about her wishes.
The pool cue struck the journalist with Kioko’s intercession to stop it. She smirked in a way that bared her fangs. It diminished only slightly when he swiftly disposed of his attacker and then entirely when someone else charged toward her as the journalist made his second attempt at a dispute. Kioko hooked her foot on the leg of a bar stool, pulling it toward her before launching it at the person with a solid kick. It wasn’t an act of strength meant to knock back. She didn't possess the brute force needed for such a thing without the aid of her Quirk. Rather, the ploy was meant to trip and entangle. Which it did so. They collided with the chair, the legs of both entities twisting up together and sending them to the floor in between Kioko and Levi.
Kioko stepped on them as she closed the distance between her and Levi. Her weight combined with the pointed heels of her boots was an act of violence in and of itself. One which caused the stiletto to pierce into soft flesh. A cry of pain rose from the floor. Blood not her own dripped from her steps.
“Then clear a path to me out of here. I will not talk if I end up behind bars again because of you or anyone else. And I will do anything to ensure it doesn’t happen.”
The "anything" wasn’t said in a tone of voice that could be mistaken for a salacious offer. It was a threat. Plain and simple. The cold expression dominating her features confirmed as much. Levi would become collateral for her escape from police undoubtedly called over the barroom brawl if Kioko thought it necessary. As would anyone else in the room. Should they get away early enough, those that would remain would take the blame rather than the pair of Villains hiding in plain sight with their Quirks quite literally the ace up their respective sleeves.

She thought herself coy and clever, but Levi caught the facade of a grin around the Mercury Queen's lips as the pool cue crashed into his back. "Could have at least warned me, I did buy you a drink after all!" Except he hadn't paid his tab yet. Didn't really have any intention to either at this point.[break][break] Kioko's moves were graceful, easily dispatching the approaching brawler with a stool before delivering a step that would cause the gods above to cry out. Instead, they were left with the whimpering of this poor fool as blood flowed from the open wound in Kioko's wake.[break][break] A third, gangly fighter made his way into their path, the lessons he clearly should have learned having little to no merit as he raised his arm to strike. "Fine, you want a path??" Levi switched his grip on the pool cue as though he were about to throw a javelin. He pulled his arm back, out of Kioko's line of sight, as a thin ring of Skylark wrapped herself around the makeshift projectile. His own force wouldn't be enough to launch the cue with any purpose, but she could surely help with that.[break][break] He 'threw' the cue, Skylark propelling the cue to bullet-like speeds as it found purchase in the man's shoulder. Muscle and sinew tore as the force behind the weapon pulled him back, colliding with the jukebox as the cue pinned him to the wall. His wails drowned beneath the sound of a record scratching on Kioko's preferred song ( Nice touch Levi). Blood dripped down the Jukebox's screen as a more fitting song began to play.[break][break] "Alright, you want an exit and then you'll talk to me? Deal. What's the fastest way outta here?" I HAVE PROMISES TO KEEP
AND MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP
The issue with tempting fate was that it often rose to the occasion. “The way you came in.” Kioko’s words were spoken without an overt air of mischievousness beyond dry amusement over the general situation at hand. She might have been unknowingly living in the stranger’s head rent free, but she couldn’t actually read his thoughts. Especially when her eyes were otherwise occupied following the feats of his body incapacitate another. Or so she thought. For much of the same aforementioned reason, Kioko had no way to know that he was employing the very same trick she was with her Quirk in the method he made use of for his own.
“The fire exit is farther away,” she clarified through both words and a gesture toward a dim lit door down a hall removed from their proximity and blocked by numerous inebriated bodies either brawling or sprawling from the bar fight. “There might be an employee exit through there.” The addition of another potential escape route was accompanied by a second gesture. This time it was toward a door marked as Employees Only behind the bar where the bartender was understandably ducked down on the other side of the counter. They were likely the one that had phoned for the police being heralded by still distant sirens barely audible over the din surrounding Kioko and her unlikely companion.
If she was planning on giving an opinion on what route to take so Levi would know which path to clear, her chance to do so was caught off by a pair of scrappy thirty-somethings barreling into her at the same time as they wrestled for dominance. Kioko was shoved far less gracefully into the booth compared to how to she exited it previously. Perhaps it was some sort of divine retribution on Levi’s behalf for her being able to achieve such a thing in the first place.
Kioko hissed in pain and bared her teeth at the fools that now rolled about her feet at the edge of the booth. Her arm dangled under the cover of the table which allowed Kioko the freedom to unleash her mercury on its underside through her sleeve even as she moved her arm in a motion that made it look like she was capable of lifting and flipping the table over onto the pair that had knocked her over with just one arm. Of course she wasn’t. Her Quirk had done the heavy lifting before slinking off the table and up her pants leg where it was out of sight once more.
“Can you hurry it up,” Kioko demanded loudly and impatiently of Levi after the newest cries in response to her vicious side had died out. Not that he wasn’t trying. Probably. Kioko just couldn’t see him from her unwillingly prone position. She sat up, eyes searching for the man she had addressed to see where the commotion had taken him while she had been momentarily indisposed.

Of course it's the way I came in, it's ALWAYS the way I came in. Skylark shifted and pooled beneath Levi's right sleeve as she waited for his next command. Just because it was the fastest didn't mean it was going to be the easiest. He took a moment to enjoy his two-second breather as Kioko gave him a run-down of the bar's exits.[break][break]
With the masses battling to the death in the makeshift mosh pit, the front door was hardly a viable option. The fire exit provided more cover but was equally as guarded and no doubt would take the longest. That only left...[break][break]
In a 'Blink-and-you'd-miss-it' moment, Kioko went down before Levi could confirm his plan to her. Dammit... He turned, as a group of three to five bobbling heads drunkenly swung fists haphazardly at each other in his set path. No going around... Decent chance to go through if I wanna get decked... Unless...[break][break]
Skylark rippled as if opposed to his thought as he turned his back to the attackers. Come on girl, it's a good plan! Nearly reluctantly, thin pools of purple nanotech split away, creating a thin layer of liquid metal along Levi's back. Under his right and left sleeves, two shotgun-like barrels appeared as Levi took a deep breath.[break][break]
"Alright Levi... YEET!"[break][break]
The sound of Skylark's *putt... putt... POW* as air entered the dual chambers was thankfully drowned out by the ruckus as Levi lept into the air simultaneously. The air fired from the concealed shotgun blasts had been enough to force his body backward, crashing through the brawling mass on his way to the employee exit. He swung an elbow out for good measure, the crunching sound of a nose shattering granting him immediate satisfaction. Well, until his back hit the bar and he didn't stop.[break][break]
Levi landed head over heels as bottles of alcohol fell freely from their shelving, crashing to the ground around him in a mix of glass and booze. Whiskey poured over his face as he turned, slightly in a daze, to see the bartender cowering behind the bar. A shocked look graced his face as he stared down Levi.[break][break]
"Hey! Lemons really do drop, huh?" He swore the bartender looked like he might faint as he rose to the ground. Where the hell was Kioko?[break][break]
Probably behind the table that just got thrown through the air. She doesn't have super strength, does she? Did she work out in prison?? He dismissed the thought as he waved his hand, attempting to signal her through the mass of knocked-down bodies.[break][break]
"Hey! What's takin' ya so long! Let's go!"

I HAVE PROMISES TO KEEP
AND MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP
Coward.
The single word resonated through Kioko’s head as she gazed peered across the turmoil still in full swing around her. The journalist was nowhere to be found. Only drunkards as far as the eye could see.
What was I thinking re-
And then she heard him. Calling out to her from across the bar. He had found himself positioned behind the counter. Kioko’s brow furrowed. The space between them pulsed with erratic flailing worthy of a moshpit from the early 2000s. At least according to the history books. It would have hindered crossing far longer than it had taken Levi to get from point A to point B.
How did he…
Her curiosity was momentarily quelled by his audacity as he declared her to be taking too long. It was a karmic statement, but the fact that Kioko deserved it after previously telling him to hurry up did nothing to soothe her ire. Fortunately for Levi, he was spared from immediate retaliation thanks to the distance he had put in between them. Unfortunately for the people now stuck between Kioko and the subject of her current irritation, they were in her way.
What Kioko had retained of fighting from a youth spent pursuing the path of a support Hero focused on stealth, evasion, and sneak attacks. It was perfect for a moment such as this. She was rusty, but they were drunk and wholly untrained by comparison. Kioko wove through the crowd with the same grace she had originally used to extract herself from the booth — and the same violence that had been on display since then through the hidden application of her Quirk. More than a few brawlers were laid out by quick jabs envenomed by the very nature of the toxic blade sneaking its way in and out of Kioko’s hands.
By the time Kioko reached her destination, bodies bent over blood and bile lined the wake of her crossing. She hoisted herself over the counter with the subtle aid of a silver platform beneath one foot. “How was this faster or easier,” she hissed at Levi. Literally. Her forked tongue even peeked out from behind lipstick blackened gates that more often than not bound it for the safety of those around her. This would not be one of those times if the so-called reporter wasn’t careful.

Jesus, why is she taking so long? What does she think this is, a mixer? Levi paused in thought as shattered and toppled bottles of booze poured freely onto the ground behind him. Wait a minute, that's not a bad idea...[break][break]
In less than a second, Levi's hand wrapped around the closest glass he could find. A surprisingly nice-looking double rocks glass with a hefty glass base at the bottom. No time for ice, not now. With a hint of a flourish, Levi turned to freely pour alcohol into his vessel. Well, the bottle poured for him at least. A top-shelf whiskey, both literally and figuratively, streamed gently into his glass as he held it beneath the liquid like a kid by a water cooler at a soccer game. His eye caught the panicked bartender's, who stared back at him with what could only be described as blank awe.[break][break]
"Oh hey, don't worry! I'm not gonna pay you back for this, but at least it's not going to waste right?" If the bartender owned a shotgun, that would have been the part to get Levi shot. He knocked back a mouthful of whiskey through his shit-eating grin. "Hey, what year is this? It tastes old! Like, good old, ya know?" Surely, that would have been another shot.[break][break]
He turned back to locate Kioko in the crowd, his gaze catching on to a blue-collar who seemingly noticed him in the madness and decided he had the right idea. Clambering over the counter as though he were a desert wanderer spotting water for the first time in months, he fell to the ground with a thud before making his way to his feet. His drunken stupor marked Levi as a threat as he rose, grabbing an already broken bottle to wield as a weapon. Levi quickly took another drink as Kioko approached. Dammit, can't use Skylark for this one. Gonna have to rely on good ol' righty.[break][break]
Trapped in the moment, Levi took another deep drink of his whiskey. "Sorry pal, closed bar." He whipped the glass forward, his aim brilliant and true, if a little high, before the glass shattered on...[break][break]
"Oh shit!"[break][break]
His hands immediately rose to cover his mouth in shock. Kioko had chosen the perfect moment to step over the bar counter, her face interrupting the hurled glass at the exact moment she chose to question Levi's decision-making. Even the intended target stopped to pause in terror after witnessing his sin. "Wh.. WHY'D YOU STEP RIGHT THERE?! I JUST THREW THAT!!" He panicked with his arms raised as the bartender himself decided that abandoning his post was the safest option he had. "It was gonna look so cool too! Like... Like this!" Levi quickly grabbed another glass and attempted to hurl it around Kioko's shoulder, clocking the attacker in the forehead with a *thunk* before he (probably thankfully) fell to the ground unconscious. "See, and the... the glass didn't break... cause the angle..." His eyes darted around as he considered what would be his best personal escape route, provided Kioko didn't kill him first.[break][break]
Gulp.

Pristine porcelain skin and perfectly symmetrical features were typically an indicator that one wasn’t used to taking hits to the face. That was true more often than not, just not when it came to Kioko. A childhood shared with a scrappy younger brother, a youth spent training to be a Hero in the footsteps of her mother, and a year of time served had Kioko experience her fair share of head shots. Enough so that she had just enough time to realize what was about to happen, but not enough to react. At least not properly.
Mercury beneath the flesh of her face hardened to protect the bone beneath from any substantial trauma upon impact. It was one of Kioko’s most relied on, and subtle, tricks of her Quirk. Still, her Quirk was not so strong that it did little more than ensure her nose didn’t shatter. It still hurt and there would definitely be bruising later. A trickle of silver even dripped from her left nostril as broken glass fell away from her visage. A visage darkened by unfiltered rage for the briefest of moments. Something had definitely broken.
Kioko raised her hand to her face. Slender fingers seemed to probe for damage before wiping away at what passed for blood and flicking it to the ground. She took a step toward Levi as he fumbled through his explanation of what just happened and tried to pin the onus on her. It was a distraction on her own behalf as the mercury she had drawn from her face crept along the floor behind Levi. She reached out to grab him by his collar and pulled to create an opening of exposed skin for a now forming tiny needle to hopefully find purchase.
Regardless of whether or not she was successful in poisoning him just a little bit for his sins through the prick of a pin, Kioko released him. The a lot a bit could come later either way. “Move,” she hissed then shoved him toward the door that led into the back where the potential employee exit might be. Given the chaos was now also spilling over the bar and following after them, Kioko’s wrath was only a supplementary reason to listen to her command as flashing lights now appeared outside the bar windows to accompany the sirens that had been drawing ever closer during their various scuffles.
