Even if she was trying to play mind games, she felt like the underclassman had injected some of her genuine thoughts into some of the things she said. So when Jun gathered up the courage to approach her, she had a drink in hand, some of the special lemonade one of the stands was selling. "Here," she says, offering it out. She felt embarrassed with herself, but most of all, she felt like a shitty person. She had attacked Jun with words when she couldn't match her in power and she had failed Michael completely. Worst of all, it was on probably the biggest stage of them all when it came to hero school. She felt so sick of herself that she wanted to vomit, but she couldn't. Everyone already knew she was a piece of shit, but now there was video proof of it. Maybe this whole hero thing wasn't for her, maybe she could run away to another country and escape her father and sister Hebiru that way.

Her mind was a mess of emotions and a stream of consciousness when Jun found her. ''Yo senpai.'' She said flatly. She didn't get why Jun even wanted to see her, maybe she was just going this way and happened to bump into her? The rain gently drizzled on the top of her umbrella as she looked up at Jun. ''I don't take handouts.'' She refused the drink with words, but accepted it with her free hand anyways and took a sip. The lemonade tasted a lot sweeter than their current situation. She didn't look at Jun, how could she after what she said, after what she tried to do? ''You hate me, don't you?'' She asked her without looking at her. ''I won't take it personally, I totally get it. I'd hate me too.'' She took a small sip of the glass as she looked up at the sky. ''I'm used to it so don't go throwing around useless apologies. You did what you thought was right, or whatever.''

The truth was all to clear to see. Jun was going to become a great hero one day and Yoko was going to stay a loser for the rest of her life.

"My grandfather taught me when I was young to never 'hate' anyone. We're all trying to live our best lives and do what we think is right." There was more to it, but Jun couldn't bring herself to throw it all on top of Yoko. Instead, she'd move to the wall next to her and lean against it, leaving enough of a buffer so she didn't get soaked. "Your um. Your psychological warfare attempts might need some polish," she says, going slow to get the right wording. "All things considered, you and Michael did really well today. Especially since I did all that work to get on your level. I just wish I had a better partner. Rahul is...despite being one of my peers, he's not exactly...Well, his character isn't as bad as that of Kurokami Gen's, but it isn't that much better. I honestly feel bad, pitting Michael up against him...but uh. I can't provide a good challenge for Michael like I can for you..." she trailed off, guilt starting to bubble up again. "Yoko, I know you don't want me to apologize, but I'm sorry. There's...there's something I have to prove today. Not against you, or Michael, or any of the big names at the school. It's...so I might not look it, but I'm actually the worst person alive..." Yanai Yoko

''Sounds like your grandpa lived an easy life.'' She replied harshly, looking down at the liquid in her drink as she gently stirred the cup. Sure, not hating anyone was nice and all, but that was more an ideal than actual reality. Maybe if she had grown up in a nice and cozy household she wouldn't have to hate anyone, but she was a Yanai. Her sister was a psychopath and her dad was a shithead. Hate had been her normal as far back as she could remember.

She looked over briefly when Jun said her psychological warfare needed some work. Did that mean she hadn't hurt Jun as badly as she thought? ''I don't know who Kurokami Gen is, but that partner of yours is a shithead and a coward.'' She would have crushed the drink then and there if only it wasn't given to her by Jun, instead she just looked away again, her rain cloud growing a little darker than it was before. ''Michael chose that fight too, y'know. Don't go thinking everything is your fault. He wanted to fight.'' She chimed in, before taking a sip of her drink and listening to Jun continue...

''Bullshit.'' She turned to look at Jun. ''You? The worst person alive? Senpai, have you gone and completely lost the plot? You don't even make the top 20 of this shitty school, let alone of everyone alive. Unless you're secretly a villain and you've been killing people on the side, I don't see that changing. If you think what happened today makes you a terrible person that's laughable too.'' She finished the lemonade and put it down on the ground gently before standing back up again. ''So, what gives? Let's talk about why you're so terrible. If you're not gonna tell me I'll hit you for saying something so stupid.''

Such was the life of a first responder. Hearing some stories of what the police had to deal with, she was sure her father had heard some things he wished he could unhear, too. As Yoko started going in depth on why Jun was wrong, she just looked down, a few memories clouding to the surface. "I can't talk about every little thing as they're personal matters, but...I was dismissive of you and Michael today. I went into that match wanting to provide a challenge, but I didn't want to overwhelm either of you. I wanted to give the two of you a chance to shine, but...I don't know. I could have gone about it better. I didn't take it seriously enough. Both of you are talented in your own rights, and...I just..." she trailed off, not sure how to even progress at this point. ''Yup, that sounds like typical old people. Always keeping their secrets and talking wisdom out of their ass like they know how the world works these days. They grew up decades ago, how would they know?'' She was harsh, but she also hated being lectured and didn't have any good experiences with older people from her own family. Hell, she couldn't even get along with her older sister and usually siblings were always on good terms at least. If only she knew about Lone Wolf and the beef he had with his brother, maybe that would make him slightly cooler than all the other teachers.

She listened to Jun, but doing so also got on her nerves a bit. This dorkass senpai of hers, all she could do was feel terrible after following through with her own plan. Where were those fierce eyes she had looked into in the arena? Did Jun really have a 'battle mode' and a 'nerd mode' that she constantly flipped between, and was she even aware of that fact? ''Sure.'' She scoffed, ''go call yourself the worst person alive, but then also refuse to name any examples that back up your claim.'' She looked away for a moment, she wanted to choose her words carefully but she was feeling a lot of frustrating emotions. ''You're strong, you're talented, you're smart, but you're also spineless.'' She looked at Jun only briefly before looking away again. ''Stand by your decisions, senpai. I'm not gonna buy into your bullshit and say you're the worst person alive when I don't believe that.''

It was also better to let part of the matter drop. She didn't want to talk about the Island, and she'd probably be turning the conversation on her own problems if she did. It wasn't about that, not in the slightest. "How about I make it up to you two?" She looked back, tilting her head. "A real bout. Obviously not today, but...something to really challenge you guys. Or...something..." Almost immediately whatever confidence she had evaporated. In truth, she wasn't sure what the two wanted. Or needed. Damn those stunted person skills. "I'm...bad at this, I'm sorry, uh...is Michael okay? He hit the ground pretty hard, and despite being made of rubber I know he's got his limits." Yanai Yoko

''Sure, whatever.'' She shrugged casually, fidgeting with the pack of cigarettes in her pocket. ''I basically already said I forgive you. You didn't do anything wrong you just did what you thought was right.'' She was glad that they were finally moving on in the conversation. Not that she didn't like to talk to Jun, she did, and she was secretly glad she came out here to check on her because maybe she needed it more than she thought. However, what she was done with was Jun coming out here just to feel sorry for herself and say how terrible she was without giving any details.

''I can't say I'll live up to whatever expectations you have. I'm training, I'm actually trying at something in life for once, but I'm no natural born genius, you know?'' She looked ahead at the grass of the campus, feeling like taking a long walk to clear her head.

''Dunno.'' She added harshly, looking back at Jun. ''You should go check on him. I accept your offer but I can't speak for him myself.'' She stretched her arm but felt a stinging pain in her ribs that elicited a quiet, ''ow.''

''What was your first year at the festival like, senpai? Did you fuck up as badly as I did?'' Yoko was basically ready to leave and go on her walk, but she needed to know Jun's answer to one more question.

"I mean...my standards for others aren't super high. Do the right thing, follow the law, and do your best. It's up to you how you want to become a hero. No matter what course you take, I know you'll do a good job...you're earnest, and that's the important thing that matters." Out of all the students in UAU Yoko wasn't the greatest, but she also wasn't the worst. What mattered more was the values one carried. Jun would make a note to go check in on Michael, but the question did make her think. "I was...worse. I had barely started learning how to fight hand to hand, I barely had any kinda check on my emotions, and I tended to commit more ot stupid mistakes. It sucked, but I didn't let any of that get to me. I knew I wasn't going to be any good, and thankfully I was facing my senpai so even though I had a poor performance she still served as a balancing pole for me." The parallel struck Jun, and she blinked for a moment. "To pass on what she said...'I believe you can make the journey ahead, so long as you keep putting one foot in front of the other'." Yanai Yoko

She was starting to feel a little uncomfortable getting complimented by Jun. Not because of her, just because she wasn't used to that kind of attention. ''Well, I'll keep trying. Don't make a habit out of complimenting me though, that's when you'll start getting disappointed.'' She looked to the side to hide her blush. How was it even possible that they could be having a real chat like this minutes after they were at each other's throats in the arena? Friendship was a truly wondrous thing.

Whatever Jun said next, it was nowhere near what she had expected. Yoko was a new student and she had only known a Jun who was socially anxious and shy at times, but always a capable fighter. It made her feel bad for Jun, even more so that she was having to listen to someone like Yoko whine and complain like the struggles she was going through herself was something new. So for once, she pushed aside her feelings of irritation, of frustration with her own lack of talent and instead just listened to Jun with sympathy.

''I... Never knew.'' She said somberly. If Jun wasn't adverse to touch, she would have offered her a reassuring pat on the shoulder, but remembering that her senpai wasn't about contact she kept her hand to herself. The parallel of Jun's first year fight wasn't lost on Yoko either. For once, she smirked at what Jun said next. ''If only it was as easy as it sounded, huh?'' She stretched her back a bit. ''Well... I'm beat. I'm not angry with you. Michael isn't angry with you and... I'm glad you're not angry with your dumbass kohai here.'' She took a couple steps forward as she got ready to leave the arena for now. ''I have nothing to do for the next couple hours other than observe matches so I'm gonna get something to eat.'' She looked over her shoulder at Jun. ''Wanna tag along? My treat.''

Even with the bumpiness of what happened, Jun was happy that things were progressing for the better. "If it were easy, everyone would do it. You've got to have a certain motivation, a drive, and a bit of craziness to go into this field. Each day is a new one to do better than the last, so we gotta take advantage of it." "I...guess I can take you up on the offer? I've got my next match soon..." Her thoughts drifted a little to the task ahead, but immediately threw it out. She had to put on a bit of a face for Yoko, just for the time being. "Yeah...yeah, that sounds nice. Let's go!" Yanai Yoko
