Miroru barely stopped herself from knocking aloud, and instead manually closed the circuit to Rin's overhead lights, turning them on without warning.
"I know you're in there." Muffled through the door of Rin's dorm room door. Perhaps an unfamiliar voice. It was late- super late. In fact, most of the other rooms were either silent, played white noise for sleeping, or were rattling with snores of varying decibels. "This is Miroru." No last name, She wasn't introducing herself with it anymore. "I know you have a part time job, but you've been back much earlier before. Something happened. I want to make sure you're doing okay. Even hero students can get mugged coming back from their after-school jobs, after all. Open the door, please. Once we clear the air and I know what needs done, I'll let you get some rest."
She waited patiently. She could tell where Rin was in the room, after all- she was a lot warmer than the air in her bedroom and its furniture- and she had more irritating tricks to ensure she didn't get ignored if the tired-looking, dark-haired girl didn't help her get to the bottom of this!

The lights suddenly turning on startled Rin as she whipped around to glance towards the light switch. In her head she somehow feared that she had been followed back to the dorms, but just below that was the fear that it was a roommate she had somehow inconvenienced or irritated. Instead there was no one there, and any relief she might have felt was short lived when a voice called out. Was that the dorm mother? Between the muffling and how tired she was, Rin couldn't tell... but despite the reassurances she couldn't help be terrified that she was about to get into trouble or that the commotion - even though it was barely any noise at all - would bring roommate wrath down on her.
That particular fear got her to get up and start towards the door, only to hesitate. She didn't want to just walk out and half a conversation in her pajamas, but she also didn't want to keep anyone waiting or risk causing more of a scene. Spotting one of her pillows she snatched it up and hugged it close to her as a sort of shield as she scurried off to answer the door. When she opened it, Miroru would see an exhausted looking brunette with her hair askew - but not bedhead - and dark circles under her eyes peeking out the door and the barest hints of a pillow between Rin and the door.
When Rin realized it wasn't the dorm mother, she wasn't sure if she was relieved or even more scared now - somehow she'd been so loud or something that she had gone and inconvenienced another student making them worry about her!
"Sor... Sorry, I'm okay!" She was trying to think of the best way to navigate this conversation, to put any worrying about her to rest and to let both of them get to bed as soon as possible. "Uhm, just had some last minute customers is all that really delayed closing! You know how it is."
Rin gave a quiet, awkward laugh that peetered out immediately, internally flinching at the 'you know how it is' - did she?!? Rin had no idea if they had any experience with working that kind of job! At least she wasn't really lying either, even if it was just one person and not several and it wasn't delayed closing so much as... letting herself get pressured into opening back up after she had already closed.

The light switch, impossibly, was still turned off. Spooky!
"You don't seem okay. You seem exhausted," Miroru stated simply. "Last minute customers? You- work at a fast food restaurant, don't you? Even if the food wasn't ready when they got there, making food never takes more than like... ten minutes, even if the apple pies aren't ready or something. Start to finish, last minute customers shouldn't delay your close more than a quarter hour. You would ordinarily have been back in your room hours ago. You're not telling me something." The little fox crossed her arms a moment, then pushed on the door, intent on entering, and closing the door behind herself. "Tell me your name, and where you work, and why you're actually hours late getting back. You don't seem the sort to take your studies lightly, so why don't you cut the shit and tell me whatever it is you're trying to hide? Do you have a boy in here or something?"
She knew she didn't. There weren't any other warm bodies inside the room, but it was the sort of shocking, easily disproven possibility likely to jar the girl into allowing her inside.

As Miroru picked apart her answer, Rin shrank more and more behind the door than she already was. Not even consciously, she wasn't planning on shutting her out or anything, but every point made was this weird mix of intimidating and exhausting - or maybe she was just exhausted - and... frustrating? That just made Rin feel bad about being frustrated, and she might have started rambling out apologies when the other girl pushed on the door.
"Ah... we can talk outside!" Rin's voice cracked a bit as she objected, attempting to quickly slip out of the room and close the door behind her. If Miroru really forced the matter she probably couldn't stop her, but Rin didn't want this conversation to end up waking any sleeping roomates up. The fear of inconveniencing them like that actually made her forget all about being in her pajamas out in the hall being why she had the pillow she was clinging to or why she was hiding behind the door in the first place.
It probably seemed incredibly suspicious but really Rin was just that awkward - doubly so when she was as tired as she was.
Assuming she managed to keep the conversation in the hall, Rin was going to flinch at the accusations and shake her head back and forth rapidly. "No, I... Sor... I'm sorry, I wasn't really trying to hide anything... and I don't have any boys in my room or anything, I promise! My uhm, my boyfriend would probably be really mad if I did." She tried to say that in a lighter, joking way but her nerves made the delivery pretty weak... and it probably lended credence to the idea that it might be her boyfriend she was trying to hide. She actually wasn't but she couldn't help but flinch internally at somehow making herself sound even more suspicious. "It's just... it was just one customer, is all. A drunk, they uhm... showed up as I was on my way out after locking up and seemed to think they knew me? Just that drunk, I guess? But they kept talking about getting burgers and I didn't want to make them mad or anything so..."
There was more to it, but the more she clarified the more pathetic Rin felt about it.
If, on the other hand, Miroru really did force herelf inside then Rin was going to end up scrambling away from the door for something else to hide behind - and then desperately try to keep her voice down while more or less going over the same story. Miroru

Miroru pursed her lips, but waited while Rin slid out of her room. For her part, she was in her sleep clothes, too- a massively oversized tee shirt with a print of the first issue of a popular shoujo manga with an all-boy cast. It was a reasonable thing to wear- not much would give her tail room to move without necessitating a lot of exposure.
The redhead got a funny look on her face, but realized Rin meant that as a joke and nodded. "Oh- yeah, I'd been thinking more that he might have -been- mister Hidey-Roomy himself."
The story was shared, and Miroru frowned pretty hard. "... are you sure that's how it happened? You had closed up, locked up, and then went back inside, opened back up, cooked for her, and then cleaned up a second time and locked up to leave hours later than intended?"
Miroru peered at Rin in concern. "Are you sure she didn't abuse her quirk to make you do all that? None of that sounds like something most anybody would do. You didn't find any of that suspicious?"

Rin just gave another awkward laugh that trailed off into silence quickly. She wasn't sure what to say about that, but at least she believed her? The frown after she told her what happened made Rin wince though, and she hunched into the pillow she was holding a little more over the course of her repeating the events back at her. It sounded even more pathetic hearing someone else say it. The question at the end startled her though, hastily shaking her head back and forth. "I'm... I'm sure. I know what that uh, would be like, if that makes sense?"
As tired as she was, and as awkward as this whole conversation was, she was hoping she wouldn't have to explain that one in more detail or anything either.
"But yeah that's pretty much what happened." Rin confirmed hastily, hoping to move the conversation along if nothing else. "Uhm, sorry for the concern and everything? It cant be fun having to check up on people, especially when it's super late and all..." Miroru

Miroru suppressed a wince at that uncomfortable laughter, and at the cowering wince, too. That last comment, though, left her frowning. "Do you? And in what circumstances have you been exposed to such control, exactly? The use of Control-type quirks is STRICTLY regulated, as I'm sure you know."
The apology made Miroru soften a bit with a sigh. "It's okay. You're not putting me out, I just worried. You're not the sort to be out late with a boyfriend or girlfriend, I shouldn't think, so when you weren't back by curfew, I got concerned. You don't have to apologize. I'm just glad you're alright."
The redhead thought a moment, then asked, "Will you need anything to help cope tomorrow? Energy drinks, or a wake-up call to make sure you don't oversleep?"

Rin stayed tense throughout the mention of control quirks being regulated, even though she knew it wasn't like she was the one at fault or anything. She didn't answer that question for awhile though, just giving a quiet nod to show she understood. When Miroru softened up a bit though it was a huge relief... even if she wondered if 'not being the type' to be out late with someone was a good or bad thing. Did that make her too boring or lame or something? It didn't sound like an insult at least, so she tried not to let herself go down that particular spiral of thoughts.
"Uhm, yeah, I'm okay. Better than before? The... drunk, had a healing-type quirk, and I didn't ask them too or anything but they noticed a little burn I got during work and healed it right up. I think it was refreshing, too?" She gave an awkward laugh, hoping that a drunk using a harmless Quirk on her randomly wasn't some big cause for alarm or reporting or anything. "Uhm, they mentioned it being free of charge so I think they had a license and stuff for using it!" Adding that hastily, and genuinely believing it after she had said it, Rin was left with considering Miroru's offer. She didn't want to take advantage of her or refuse her either, on the off chance either way hurt her feelings somehow. "About the uh... morning help, only if you want to?"
That was the best, if very meek and uncertain, answer she came up with. Inching close to her door again, pillow still hugged tightly to her front, she finally answered that first question about control quirks: "Just so you know, uhm, I had a... pretty scary run in, one time, with someone that had a control-type quirk. Luckily we got away safe and sound though!"

"... really?" Miroru frowned a little bit. "I had someone do something similar in hospital. I'd just pushed my quirk and every time I do that... uh. I need minor medical attention. But she wandered in and-"
The redhead glanced away, aware how weird this sounded. "She... unraveled her hands? And wrapped them around my arms and fixed them like... just like that. One and done. It was really weird."
She glanced back at Rin and squinted a bit. "You know I'm not like. A hardline legalist right? I'm not gonna rat someone out for healing people for free. There's stuff people shouldn't do without licenses but just because something is a law right now doesn't make it RIGHT."
Miroru nodded firmly. "I'd very much like to help. Especially since you seem like you work hard. It's a rotten deal to work extra hard to help others and have your own hard work suffer. I'll do what I can to make it suck less."
The story at the end made Miroru frown worriedly. "A run-in? Who's we? What happened??"
