oll!" One of their opponents shouted. A giant die slammed onto the floating platform and tumbled over toward the edge, finally landing on a four. The die broke open and spat a violet pollen into the air. Where it landed, it propagated and spread. It grew into something mold-like and reached for Farrin and Josie. 

They didn't have time. This was only one of the four other two-person teams out in the field. Each team competed for one of the three flags at the center of this challenge's arena. Farrin held one already, but he and Josie were on the hunt for a second. All the better to standout amid the Sports Festival. Stillness, however, threatened to steal their victory away. After grabbing the first flag, one of the other teams caught up. And now, here they were, fighting it out for the first flag. 

This particular opponent's quirk allowed him to summon a large die. Each face of the die correlated to a different ability. A three-armed him with a large cannon. A one granted him flight. Now they were seeing a four. 

The other student that attacked them was chasing Josie down. Luckily, though she still hadn't developed her quirk fully, she was quick on her feet. The other fella could spit some weird liquid that solidified into an incredibly tough, metal-like solid. In a prolonged fight, Farrin was confident they would win, but the real problem was the ruckus they caused. It was a large arena, but not so large that the fighting wouldn't draw the other teams' attention.  

"We dun' have time fer this," Farrin grumbled, leaping above the odd fungus and kicking his pursuer away. 

They had to get back on the move. Grab a second flag and jet it back to the start zone. They certainly had mobility on their side, but even the Farrin and Josie duo would struggle fighting eight other students simultaneously.

"Ya know, I have a feeling that they don't want to have a healthy conversation on the matter, and then that crowbar is still back at the bank. So let's do our best!" She spoke before getting separated from Windy in the kerfuffle that had started up now with everyone deciding to go to war.

Now Peacekeeper could go toe toe-to-toe with a lot of folks, unfortunately, Josie couldn't. So at the sight of this newcomer, she did the one thing she could do properly.

Run, run like a frightened little boy on the first day of baseball.

That's exactly what she did in this scenario. Heading forward with the attacker on her she got out into an all-out sprint forward. Keep a huge distance between her and them so in other words they couldn't go crazy with their quirk. At least that's what the hope was, for all she knew it might be a long-range one, and then she'd have to swerve left and right while moving like crazy.

For now, keep the distance, and hell if it came down to Windy could nuke um, hopefully not they may not live through that, and that may break some rules on that front. Though considering the insanity of this place who knows about that?

A

nother boy intruded on the fight, and that's exactly what Farrin wanted to avoid. The arena was a series of interlinked platforms that was as high as it was long. It was like running an odd maze with bridges that wove together a battlefield as high as it was long. There was a lot of verticality to account for, but the same could be said in most urban environments out in the field. This wasn't a new variable to account for, just an additional one. 

So, when the newest challenger swept down from above, throwing a fist Farrin's way, it took no time for the young time-turner to adjust. He swayed to the left and grabbed onto his attacker's muscular arm, then thrust his free hand into the boy's chest. The boy was sent soaring, but unlike the fella with the dice quirk, this one bounced. He shot up off the ground, then bounced again off the bottom of another platform above them. 

He was a pinball bouncing around the battlefield. With each collision, he picked up speed. With a swoosh, Farrin's hair blew back as he just narrowly avoided the attack. Another bounce, and the boy crashed into Farrin's back. Farrin tumbled across the platform, rolling over his shoulders until he fell over the edge. A free hand swung up, waved back across the ledge, and grabbed it in a vice lock. He refused to hang and dangle. His biceps and triceps firmed, and Farrin launched himself up. Return to send—the time-turner's boots impacted the boy's chest. The two students blew apart in opposite directions. 

Which is exactly what Farrin wanted. 

"Duck!" He shouted for Josie to hear. 

Riding the momentum from his collision with the rubber student, Farrin's arm caught Josie's pursuer in a haymaker. He dragged the liquid-metal spitter through the air, right over Josie. Both students rolled along the ground. Thrusting his palms against the metal flooring, Farrin pushed himself back into a stand. Behind them, the rubber student was now fighting the dice roller. That bought them some time. 

"C'mon, let's get ta' higher ground, see if we can spot another flag," he said, feeling at his belt for the one flag they had, which was latched onto his back. "Grab one more n' we get outta 'ere."

The fact was that this wasn't too horrible of a situation. Jo may have to bear the shackles of being weak, though that didn't matter much. It was high time she started putting her big brain to the test, starting to come up with strategies, and showing these quirk-heavy users that sometimes the best plan required minimal quirk use. Oh who was she kidding? Peacekeeper was constantly using their quirk, heck Jo had it woven with her outfit so it'd be even easier to go about using the quirk.

The duck resonated through her head and she dropped down sliding while looking up at the ongoing situation. The sound of Windy's fist colliding with that poor fella was enough to fill the surrounding area, good thing they were metal. Otherwise, who knows how much damage that would've been having to fix in the surgery room.

Wind was all business right now, wanting to get that last flag. Which to be fair was understandable, despite his talent you can only be overwhelmed for so long before you fall. They didn't need to figure out was the time quirks limits were today of all days.

"Alright, shouldn't be too bad, just aim up and we should be able to get it. Not like they hid these things using their whole brain."

Josie spoke and took off once again, heading to jump onto one platform. That one Jo used to send herself even further upwards onto the next platform only to find herself in another mini maze.

"Maybe they did use their whole brain on this one." She spoke a little reluctantly while heading further into the maze trying to find her first flag.

he din of battle below started as a thumping sound, like a fist against sand. Farrin and Josie were putting distance between them and the fighting, but not enough. The others knew he had one of the flags. Farrin's reputation in the school, prominent as it was, wasn't enough to deter the others when his hold on the flag was a sure thing. Why risk hunting for one of the other two flags when they could chase him and his partner until they made a mistake? 

There was a crux in that plan, however. What if they didn't make that mistake? 

Farrin kicked off the ground and followed Josie to the platform above. It was a larger platform this time around, one sizable enough to house a maze. Several walls stood a few meters up from the flooring, with divergent winding paths that were clear to see from the entrances. Another obstacle, but it was not without weakness. 

"No time fer' the right-hand rule but I've an idea. There's gotta be a flag in there, so let's get goin'," he said, starting into the maze. 

The thump of traded blows grew louder. It beat like a drum outside the maze as Farrin made his first turn. That same violet pollen from earlier spewed like a geyser behind them and rained over the maze, spreading more of the odd fungus wherever it landed. Farrin didn't look back. If they turned to fight, the other teams would never relent. 

"Right then, jump!" He shouted just as they turned another corner. 

Farrin kicked up against the closest wall, then again off the wall and into the air. The winding paths were splayed out in an impossible space. The platform, even this larger one, was only a few dozen meters around, yet now, within the maze, it looked to stretch for something like a mile. Skepticism tumbled to the wayside. Quirks made the impossible possible, but this challenge was just as much a mental test as a physical one. If others had entered the maze, they hadn't thought to scale its walls... and there was a clearing at the labyrinth's heart. That had to be where the flag was placed. If they ran along the tops of the walls, they would have a fairly straight shot to their objective and their victory.

"Well better idea than mine, nowhere to go but up after all."

Josie muttered aloud. Instead of following Farrin's move, she performed her own: jumping from wall to wall twice, then sprinting straight to the top. It was nothing fancy, but launching herself up would have been another dead giveaway if she had chosen that route. The more she thought about it, the more she started to think it'd be better if this was handled sooner rather than later on their front.

From this point on it was hoping to other walls and in general looking for the next dang flag. There were so many places they could hide the thing in a place like this so surely they were on their way to discovering it.

They had to discover it first, though—that was the main situation here. Finally, her eyes landed where Windy's had likely been the entire time. Ahead of them was a clearing, and considering this whole place was nothing but walls and mazes, that was definitely new. Plus, there hadn't been any illusions used up to this point, so that was out of the picture as well.

"Well, race ya there," She chuckled knowing she'd never beat Windy in a race unless she smacked him with a metal first right in the shin. Even then, it was very unlikely she would win unless it was a poor sportsmanship competition.

Either way, they're on the way!

arrin looked to Josie with a grin. Racing and hand-to-hand combat were his aces to play. He left the challenge unanswered beyond the amusement he wore. Besides, keeping behind Josie meant he could more easily support her—namely, with the temporal acceleration field he had just summoned around her. 

The metal walls below their feet melted away as the two beelined it to the clearing. The cacophony of battle behind them faded to a whisper as the duo left the competition behind. There was no sweeter victory than that of a battle never fought. According to some, at least.

"Almost there!" Farrin shouted, as much for himself as for Josie. 

The thick gray walls that built the maze fell away as they crossed the final threshold and approached the clearing. It was about twenty meters in diameter, and at its center, the flag stood atop a smooth, metal hill. Farrin wasted no time. He landed hard on the ground and immediately kicked across the distance, snatching the flag up. 

Farrin turned and tossed the flag to Josie. It was best if they each carried one in case the others caught them. Speaking of which, though they gained much ground, it didn't take long for the two teams behind them to smarten up and scale the walls. In the distance, a few figures grew clearer as they approached. 

"Eh, les' get movin again," he called out, then beamed off in the opposite direction, "if we need, we can take cover in the maze ta' lose 'em, but if I can't see yuh', but field will dissipate 'fore long." 

Farrin jumped and landed atop the maze's walls again. A few safe zones circled the many hovering platforms. They only needed to reach one, and it didn't matter which, so one direction was as good as any. The more distance they held between themselves and the other teams, the less likely they were to lose one of the flags. Before long, they would navigate out of the maze, and then it was back to platform hopping.
