U.A. University, the world leading university when it came to developing pro heroes, support studies, and tech development. These hallowed halls have produced some of the strongest and most talented heroes Japan, and arguably the world, has ever seen. Now three young heroes are about to take their first steps towards their goals of becoming fully licensed Pro Heroes. But first, they had to show that they were capable enough to have the privilege of attending this esteemed University by passing the entrance exams.

The three of them would see a man walk out looking like 1900’s cowboy, complete with a Stetson and boots and a pair of what looked like revolvers on his hips and a lever action rifle slung on his back. “Howdy y’all. Name’s Deadeye, and I’ll be your judge for this here exam. I’ve been a pro for 10 years here in Japan and an on and off instructor for the past three.” The man said, even speaking in Japanese you can hear his thick southern American accent. “Y’all have a great test in front of you. You lot got a rescue op to complete. A villain and an unknown amount of henchmen have taken a dozen civilians hostage inside a bank. Your job is two fold, apprehend the villains and safeguard the hostages. This is a pass or fail exam, no letter grades, no do overs. If ya fail that’s it until the next round of testing in the following semester.” He said in a flat tone. “Now I don’t care how exactly y’all accomplish this task but try and keep property damage to a minimum, even though this is all a fake set up.” The older heir said with a chuckle before his face grew dead serious and he locked eyes with each of them. “However, if you sacrifice the safety of those hostages willingly, I will personally see to it you never get into this school.” He said in a flat tone.

“Now take 10 minutes to come up with a plan and figure out how y’all can use your god given abilities to work together effectively and complete the mission. Good luck y’all.” He said with a tip of his hat before exiting the room. As soon as Deadeye closed the door behind him the big clock on the wall began to tick down from 10 minutes.

It was the day of the Entrance Exam and Emi had been trying to shrink herself down as much as possible. She had prepared as much as she could for this moment and was sure that physically she was ready to go but emotionally was a completely different story. Her eyes darted around rapidly the massive crowd of applicants internally noting that they were all much more impressive in stature or had a presence that she could feel would make them a great hero.

Her own anxiety was making her heart beat rapidly as she felt panicked in this huge crowd, missing what was said on the announcement as a result. She would try to get someone to repeat what they said unsure of where to go or who to speak to as everyone was engaged in their own conversations. The room would start to spin as she felt overwhelmed by the crowd, the noise, and the impact this event had on her future. "Please can someone tell me what we're doing? I didn't hear" she called out to no one in particular

Her focus was drifting towards the fact that the sensei has funny accent. An accent that she definitely not familiar with making it harder for her to understand what he meant. Subconsciously, Yoru even tries to squint her eyes so she can listen more but alas, the one that does the hearing is in fact her ears and not her eyes. But from series of words that guise under that funny accent, Yoru at the very least able to catch some words and that were 'hostage' and 'bank'. Yep, that is all I need to know. Save the hostage Yoru nods with a bright smiles on her face. Then, she hear someone that felt lose with everything that is happening around them which she definitely ignores it.

Yoru approaches the girl.

You see, there are baddies inside that won't let poor people goes out from the building Yoru tries to explain it with an exaggeration body gestures. I think our job is to foil their plan by taking out the poor people safely Yoru answer while puffing up her chest proudly. The way that she keep saying poor people can be taken out of context but Yoru don't feel anything weird about it.

Oh my name is Yoru by the way, nice to meet ya' Yoru introduces herself as she thrust her hand forward abruptly for a handshake.

The day of the U.A entrance had finally arrived, and while Raito had some degree of confidence in his abilities, he couldn’t help but be nervous with the amount of people that were reunited at U.A for those exams. Seeing so many people helped reinforce how much of a challenge passing those exams would be.

When the instructor arrived, Raito couldn’t help but find his appearance to be kinda cool, he looked like he came straight out of those old west movies he watched once. He listened in to the instructor’s explanation of their test, while it was a simple situation to understand, it probably would be a tricky one to solve, Deadeye’s final sentence also toned how serious that exercise would be.

Raito then approached the girls. “Well, she’s right, we also gotta defeat and capture the villain and their henchman as well.” He said with his arms crossed and a friendly smile on his face, hoping he wasn't being too nosy just entering the conversation like that. “He kinda also implied that we should come up with a plan to work together.” he added, uncrossing his arms to adjust the training sword buckled on his waist. “I’m Kousoku Raito, nice to meet you all.”

Ten Minutes.

Joining them in the room was some twenty or so other hero hopefuls, all gunning for the privilege of attending U.A. The fact of the matter was that this was a zero-sum game. There were going to be winners, and there were going to be losers. U.A. couldn't take everyone in the group as there were several other students up for consideration. Deadeye said that they had ten minutes before the exam started, but the truth was it had started before he even stepped into the same room as all of them. Work together? Complete the mission? Obviously that's what a hero ought to do: cooperate with allies. At the end of the day though, only so many could earn an acceptance letter. There were wolves in this room that they needed to be wary of.

Some of the savvier individuals were keenly aware of the situation. They were the ones quickest to act, latching onto those they believed they could manipulate. Others, meanwhile, were more genuine, suckered by Deadeye's call for cooperation.

"Aye! We need to work together!" a chummy voice called out to the unofficial group of three.

He approached, bowing politely as he greeted them all. He dressed prim and proper with a green suit and bolo tie. He wore a visor that covered most of his face and stretched over his ears. The visor had a circular glow green glass indentation in the center which he used to look through (although his face couldn't be seen through the glass itself.

"I don't suppose that you lot would be interested in adding one more to your group...Ehehehheh," he smiled, scratching the back of his head awkwardly while nervously tapping his foot against the ground.

The chattering of the people forming teams and making plans was making Emi have a bit of a panic attack. She would suddenly feel very small as if the people all around her were growing and the room became more distorted. Her eyes would shift rapidly as her heartbeat increased. Just before she was about to have a full blown panic attack the greeting by Yoru snapped her back to reality "T-Thank you so much!" she chirped eagerly shaking her hand in greeting as two more individuals joined their little group.

"I'm Emilia but you can just call me Emi!" she silently exhaled not realizing she had been holding her breath this whole time. With the 3 others with her she was feeling just a little more confident in their next step. "So...hostages? I've never done anything like this before but I'm super willing to work together!" she tried to pump herself up which resulted in her feeling a bit more self-conscious as her cheeks would turn pink "If anyone wants to come up with a game plan I'll help!"

As the others started forming other groups around them, Raito was trying to think of a plan for them to rescue the hostages when his thoughts were interrupted by another voice calling to them. He quickly turned to its source, raising an eyebrow due to the outfit the guy was wearing, looks like someone had his hero outfit, or atleast a prototype more or less sorted out. “Hey, the more people we can get to work together, the better right?” He answered with a smile on his face, signaling that he was okay with the newcomer joining their group.

Raito then turned back again to the rest of the group. “Yeah, this is new for all of us, but if we work together we can do this!” He said with a confident smile, trying to keep the group motivated and in a positive mood. He then crossed his arms, bringing one hand to his chin when he heard Emi mention a game plan. “Well, it’s kinda hard to make a plan without seeing the place first, maybe we should tell each other what we can do?” He suggested, as no other idea came to his mind. "I can do some short dashes around and I can hold my own with a sword."

He appeared to be quite tense. As soon as each of them introduced themselves to him, he snapped right into a bow, his arms, hands, and back straight and stiff as a board. "Nice to meet you! My name is Ko—Erm, hero name: Psi-Ko!" he straightened out, saluting them as rigidly as he bowed.

"Mm that'll be a useful power in fighting off the villains!" he nodded, relaxing a bit. "As for me, I'm a telepath. I can link all of our minds together so that we can communicate more effectively, but...Erm...Sorry, I'm not too good in a fight. I'm more of the supporting type—just give me the orders though, and I'll do what I can!"

The timer on the wall finally ticked down to its last second. The doors opened, and the display flashed "BEGIN" in bright red letters. Immediately, everyone inside stampeded out of the room and down the hallway to come out on the other end: an open cityscape.

The city itself was completely quiet—eerily so. Some of the groups didn't seem to care, quickly rushing headlong down the streets, aiming to locate the objective before any other group could. Some of the more cautious groups stuck behind, close to the entrance, scanning their surroundings to find any hints or clues that could point them in the right direction. Was that the right call though? Who knew?

Scanning the surroundings, one would not see anything out of the ordinary (aside from the fact that the city was empty, of course). None of the immediate buildings gave any hints about anybody inhabiting them. None of the buildings were labeled either, so there were no clues on that front in case the students were looking for some of the classic hostage situation locations like a bank or jewelry store. There were cars parked on the side of the streets, but they were scattered about in a non-uniform manner, so they weren't really reliable indicators either. But maybe they were all missing something?

Emi nodded along impressed by what the members of her group could do with their quirks. They all seemed very handy and pretty capable! So when their eyes finally settled on her, and it was her turn to speak up, she stuttered before blurting out "I can lift a lot, and I'm tough!" she would immediately feel like this wasn't enough so she tacks on "And I can jump pretty high" so awkward. However, she was still determined to help in whatever way she could. Even if she didn't have any fighting skills, maybe some aspect of her quirk would be useful?

When the bell rang, she ventured forward with the rest of her group, sticking close with them in case of danger...of which their was none. "Are we sure this is a hostage situation? Isn't it usually busier than this?" her only reference to this would have come from TV. Emi would ponder the situation for a moment before she'd sheepishly say "I'll get some height maybe we'd missing something because we're too low?" placing her knuckles together she would begin to glow before jumping as high into the air as she could and immediately slowing her fall. From here she would look around to see if there was anything unusual. Perhaps a fruitless attempt but it was all she could think to do.

He nodded along as his team explained their powers and skills, surprisingly they seemed to complement each other very well to some extent. Emi’s toughness and strength would definitely be super helpful since neither him or Psy-Ko seemed to have any physical prowess or destructive power to deal with rubble or tougher foes, and Psi-Ko’s telepathy would allow them to keep track of each other in case of danger. “You guys sound pretty cool!” Though there was a lingering doubt in Raito’s mind due to his partner's powers. “How does your telepathy work? Do we just listen to each one's thoughts or can we kinda focus on when we want to talk with each other?” It would be a bit weird to share all of their thoughts with each other if that were the case.

As soon as the display signaled the start of the exercise, he walked through the doors with his, venturing into the cityscape that appeared before them. As they walked through the city, Raito noticed that save for them and the other applicants, the city seemed to be devoid of life, giving him an eerily sensation, he felt as if they were witnessing the calm before the storm. “That’s what that Deadeye guy said to us, but something definitely feels very off…” He replied to Emi while he kept observing his surroundings, looking for any clue that could help them. “Good idea, we’ll watch for anything down here.” He then turned to Psi-Ko “Keep your eyes peeled, we can’t be sure there isn’t a villain or something hiding in any of the buildings around here.” Raito warned him, the eerily silence made him feel that the chances of an ambush or trap grew by each moment that passed.

"It works like this," he replied in respoonse to Raito's question. In their heads, they'd simply hear their own internal voices as opposed to Psi-Ko's. "This is Psi-Ko, by the way. Sorry if that was confusing. I've already hooked all of our minds up together, by the way. All you need to do is focus your thoughts on who you want to speak to, and it'll transmit through."

In truth, however, that was not how Psi-Ko's quirk worked. He could link their minds, yes, but they would not be able to actually transmit their thoughts to each other. The truth was that he was capable of reading the surface-level thoughts of up to a few people of his choice and telepathically communicate with those same individuals. All he needed to do was repeat the messages over to the intended person to maintain the illusion.

"Mm!" he nodded his head while pumping his clenched fist.

Getting up in the air was a good idea to get a better view of things. As she slowly descended, she would've seen that two of the groups had already been taken out. Their unconscious bodies were sprawled out all over the street. If she was acute enough, she likely would've been able to pick up on the fact that some of them were facing the entry point, indicating that they were likely attempting to escape from whatever took them all out. Meanwhile, glimpses she caught of some of the other teams. They all appeared to still be looking for where the hostages were being held.

"What do you see?" Psi-Ko asked, his voice sounding exactly like her own inner voice.

While working as a team made Emi feel more confident she would become rattled at the sight from her aerial view. Two groups had already been knocked out by something or someone. It honestly terrified her and if she wasn't airborne her group could see it plastered all over her face. She would freeze as she started to descend unable to bring herself to say anything. Thankfully Psi-Ko helped her out by shaking her out her stupor so when she landed next to the group she could finally bring herself to speak.

"I-I have no idea what's going on but a bunch of other people got knocked out over there" she pointed in the direction "I thought this was supposed to be a hostage situation why are people passing out? Will that happen to us?" she would start to panic a bit unable to really calm herself down properly as she felt extremely out of her depth with this whole situation. The more complicated it would get the worse she felt.

When Emilia landed near them, Raito turned to hear what she had to say, but a frown of worry formed on his face as soon as he noticed how distraught she was. “Hey now, take a deep breath and try to calm yourself.” He said calmly, while he tried to absorb everything she was telling them. The prospect of a bunch of other participants lying unconscious this early in the exam was a bit terrifying, even more due to the fact that he didn’t hear any sound or sign of fighting. “I’m not sure… It’s all very weird, maybe that’s the work of the villain who’s “protecting” the hostages…” He guessed, scratching his chin, but it didn’t feel right. “Well, thanks to you we might just be able to avoid the same fate, so let’s keep our cool, put our heads together and make a plan so we don’t end like them, alright?” He said with a confident smile on his face, trying to sound reassuring as he could to the rest of his group without telling them lies, he was confident that they could overcome this, but the risk was always there.

A bunch of possibilities and thoughts raced through Raito’s mind as he tried to come to grasp the situation and come up with a plan for their next move. “I say we try to go around and try to approach the place where you saw everyone unconscious from behind and try to see if we can get whatever downed the others by surprise.” He suggested, hoping that the element of surprise would give them enough of an advantage to deal with whoever was doing that. “I know it’s dangerous, but it’s our best lead to find where the supposed hostages are. Besides that, we need to get those unconscious guys to somewhere safe, right now they’re in as much danger as the hostages.” He finished, alternating his gaze between Emilia and Psi-ko, as if he was asking if they were onboard with his plan.

Raito took charge, asserting himself as the leader in the face of Psi-Ko's alleged anxiety and Emi's passivity. While Psi-Ko preferred to have one of them be the leading face of their little team, he also didn't want to be led into a losing situation.

"Good idea, but...I don't think it'd be wise to try and move the unconscious. It could be a trap! It's not worth the risk when we're already taking on a lot of risk just by approaching!" he shot back.

After all, there were clearly things that the instructor had neglected to mention during the introduction. This clearly wasn't a standard hostage situation. Rather than knowing the location of the threat, they needed to go and find it for themselves, and it wasn't as if they were given many clues either. They were told it was a bank, but they had no idea where the bank was. The training grounds weren't a recreation of an existing city either. In addition to not knowing the location, they also were largely unaware of what they were even fighting. Deadeye being their adversary was a given, but were there other heroes of his caliber working with him? Did he have a bunch of sidekicks playing as his henchmen? How many hostages were there?

"It might be best if you go on ahead alone to scout things out, Raito. Your quirk makes you the fastest, so if it gets dangerous scouting, you can always dash on out of there, right? Emi and I can hang back, and you can relay any information back to us through my quirk!"

Emi did what Raito instructed taking a few deep breaths to ground herself. She felt very heard for the first time in a while and would nod in affirmation to Raito as she steeled her resolve. He was a natural leader and she was more than happy to go with his plan. After all, she didn't want people to follow her; that was a disaster waiting to happen.

She would nod along, listening to these two who were much more competent than her, come up with the plan. As much as she may not have wanted to ruffle some feathers she felt that letting Raito go alone would be a poor choice. After all, they had 4 members of their little group, so splitting up two and two might be more efficient. "I-I uh...I don't think we should send Raito alone." she hesitated before speaking more directly, "I'll go too! strength in numbers, plus it's hard for me to get hurt." she wouldn't back down from this as she wanted to repay the small debt she owed to Raito just now for helping her out when she was overwhelmed.
