Department of Heroes Freshman
Food was an unfortunate necessity for nearly everyone, and Miroru was not among the lucky few able to disregard its importance to her future as a hero. So once more, she found herself in the cafeteria, surrounded by healthy food that didn't taste awful, but wasn't what she wanted to be eating. Except the umeboshi onigiri. She was happy about the two little sour plum rice balls she'd permitted herself. The rest, though, was acceptable at best. Miso soup with tofu, steamed rice with some furikake for flavor, some lightly salted veggie tempura... nothing at all very satisfying or exciting, but good fuel.
Miroru did her best to make the most of her mealtime, though, with a set of thermodynamic, electrical, and nuclear engineering books propped open in front of her so she could page through them as she ate. More engaging, to be sure. She found that study fun, learning how the different systems worked so she could toy with them in the field if needed, or prevent disasters by identifying problems and engineering a fix in case of a potential disaster.
Unfortunately, it also left the redheaded fox in open view for just any other student to stumble upon...

The morning had been and gone, with Kupo waking up early to get some technique training in before his morning theory classes. In the afternoon, he planned to do yet more physical training and studying. He had to catch up for his missed weeks somehow, even if he'd kept up his normal regimen during that time. To fuel all this hard work and his seemingly boundless energy, Kupo needed food! Not as much as some of his larger (and heavier) classmates, not by a long shot, but the small boy stil had more rice, steamed vegetables and chicken than would be expected for someone his size. A full portion, that is. As he took his tray from the counter, Kupo was now stuck with the daunting task of finding somewhere to sit. In these early days, he didn't really know anyone besides Jack (who wasn't in the canteen, he'd checked) and so had to try and make friends while many students had started to form friend groups of their own already. In his brief search, Kupo came to Miroru's table. She seemed to have very similar mutant features to his own, so was less likely to possibly make fun of him or belittle him for his appearance, and she was studying alone. This trait marked her as one of the more studious ones present, a group who tended to be among the nicest in a school. For these reasons, he'd decided to try his luck at her table. Placing his tray on the opposite side of the table from Miroru, and far enough along the table to avoid obstructing any of her books, Kupo looked over to Miroru. "Hi! Can I sit here? I can see you're studying, so I don't wanna disturb you or anything!" He spoke clearly, though not loudly, his youthful voice betraying genuine concern. With a better look at him, Kupo was in normal uniform, though with a few pins matching his identities & Quirk namesake on the lapel of his blazer and a few hairclips in his hair, collar & tail (visible & swaying behind him) matching his white-and-green colours.

An interruption! Most unwelcome. Well. Somewhat unwelcome. There were only so many moments of isolation on such a crowded campus, but it wasn't like connecting with other prospective students was directly unpleasant. Miroru turned to face the student asking to sit down and stopped dead, blinking at the tiny white fluffboy. "Uh."
It took her a second to push past and reply. "Oh, um. Sure." She moved to shuffle the empty plates from the side he seemed to want to sit on over to the other side of her setup, clearing some space for him. "It's no bother. Public space and all that." She squinted at him, though. Something felt off. It took her a second to identify exactly what it was, though.
"Say, uh. Are you comfortable? I can see the fluff from your collar, and you don't seem like you're losing body heat at the right rate. It's the infrared. You're just- not releasing as much as most people do to self regulate temperature. You gonna be okay?"

"Thanks~" he chimed, sitting down as Miroru cleared a space for him. Initially taking a couple bites of his food, Kupo turned his attention back to the red fox as she seemed to hesitate on something. Looking up at her, Kupo could see either discomfort or scrutiny, though he wasn't quite sure of the cause. "Is... everything okay?" As Miroru spoke though, comprehension dawned on his face. "Oh, right! Yeah, I'm fine, thank you for your concern though. The low heat emission is just a factor of my Quirk, really not one I can do much about. I have a medical support device to help with that." Kupo held up his left wrist to demonstrate, showing off the dark grey band around it and pulling up his sleeve to show the cannula in his forearm. "It detects when I'm overheating and gives me medication to encourage extra heat loss, usually it's not a problem outside of summer & training." He pulled his sleeve back down and looked at Miroru more closely. Not scrutinising, just taking in the details of her face as he talked. For some reason, she strongly reminded him of one of his sisters. Then, he seemed to realise something. "Is your Quirk something to do with radiation? Most people can't see that normally, and you specified infrared so I'm guessing it's not just that?... Oh! Forgot to introduce myself, silly me! I'm Jason Riviera, but my nickname's Kupo, if that's easier." He held his hand out to Miroru across the table, with the soft paw pads on his palms and fingertips very visible. A wide smile showed off larger-than-normal pointed canine teeth. It was fairly clear that his mutations were beyond aesthetic in nature.

The explanation helped bring what she was picking up back into perspective, and Miroru nodded, satisfied at his answer. "Is- that all it does though? Just some meds? It seems like having something to function like a heat sink or a cooling medium would work better for high-rate cooling needs. That, or like... a popsicle suppository, but nobody wants that." She grimaced.
She was a bit surprised that he caught on to her quirk so quickly, and she nodded slowly. "Ah... yeah. EM radiation, specifically, all the way from the electro to the magnetic half of the word." She shifted and grabbed a napkin to clean her hands off, and moved to shake his. Her hand was very normal, though calloused in surprising places consistent with the scarring and stress a bareknuckle boxer would encounter.
"I'm- Miroru. Just... Miroru." She introduced herself, quietly hoping that politeness would keep him from digging further into a detail she was clearly deliberately obfuscating.
